@Bbrk24 well technically the more robust method to detect if some variable k is undefined would be to write 0k=0k (if it is false then k is undefined), because just testing if k=k is false would let through values like k=1/0 or k=ln(0), which i assume is computed as +/-infinity under the hood.
but yea checking equality with itself is probably the shortest way to detect for undefined
01:48
huh wait it looks like u r checking for undefined with the 0k=0k method cuz ur f(x) is (x-h)d(h,k), so f(h)=0*d(h,k), which means u r really checking if 0*d(h,k)=0*d(h,k)
cool, i didnt even notice that at first
Also since the challenge doesnt specify the length of each slope in the slope field (cuz it was intended for ascii art), cant u choose any arbitrary length for the slopes, as long as its not too crazy?
@Bbrk24 cuz u could probably replace the .16 here with a .1 or even a .2 to save one byte
the slopes wouldnt have a length of 0.4 anymore but that didnt really matter in the first place anyways
ok wait the distance was 0.4 but the distance would be double that, 0.8
well it doesnt really matter anyways

Q: Op-Amp with limited resistor

ariamadeuscurrently my class have a task from the lecturer, he think the resistor was enough, but not for us. So let's see if the community can solve this: Create Op-Amp circuits with the following resistors. Those resistors cannot share or reused each other: Inverting with 10x gain Non-inverting with 10x...

02:54
@AidenChow I originally chose 0.4 because it needed to be in (0, 0.5) and 0.4 looked best imo out of the single-digit options
03:09
@AidenChow If I copy the text out of the note and paste it in, the mod call decomposes into m * o * d
And if I replace it with \mod, then the .sort on the second line errors
The only way I can get it to work reliably is
h=[-p...p][\mod([0...4pp+4p],2p+1)+1]
k=\sort(h)
X=x-h
f(x)=Xd(h,k)
\{XX+f(x)^2<.2:k+f(x)\}
x=\{f(h)=f(h):0/0,(y-k)^2<.2:h\}
03:50
CMC: Take a list of strings, return the smallest string that contains all of them (I could have sworn this was an existing challenge, but I can't find it)
that absolutely exists and i have absolutely no idea how to find it
i spent an hour fruitlessly searching for various keywords like overlapping or substrings and found nothing
wack
anyways i thought ∧.l≜&~sᵛ for 8 in brachylog would do it but it doesn't even terminate if you only give it one string :P
plain ~sᵛ gives a non-shortest string fine
I seriously doubt that there's a golfier way than iterating through all strings
(brb adding an "all strings" builtin to vyxal)
hypothetically that's what the brachylog does
but it actually tries to be more efficient using unbound prolog variables and somewhere along the way it gets lost
04:05
The most efficient way is probably O(n^2) ish (where n is # of words)
04:16
...that gave me an idea to salvage the brachylog sol lmao
@Bbrk24 didnt i say before to copy-paste one expression at a time....
and for each expression involving a piecewise copy paste the newline before the expression as well

@lyxal didnt u ask smth like this before

CMQ: How to determine the shape of a matrix from its diagonals?
^ there it is, im not crazy lol
06:56
@AidenChow it never got answered
@cairdcoinheringaahing does that work for all matrices?
is this a 2d matrix or any dimension matrix
2d
So I suppose the question should be whether it works for all 2d matrices
wait there can be diagonals for non-square matrix??
If it's a rectangle, you can draw diagonal lines in it :p
A little something like that
Although I suppose it's possible for two matrices to have the same diagonals
wait if two matrices can have the same diagonals then how r u going to differentiate them just based off of their diagonals?
isnt that like impossible
07:09
That's a good question
thats like saying, im thinking of a number in which the number squared is 1. What am i thinking of?
theres literally no way to know 100% if the number is -1 or 1
@AidenChow If it is, then that makes life a whole lot easier
Or harder depending on whether people are fine with having 4 construct matrix from diagonals elements in the digraph space :p
ok yea i have no idea what u just said but cool
07:38
@lyxal interpreted exactly as stated, it only works for rectangles that are no taller than they are wide

@Neil Do you understand why 57 byte .NET super-prime is faster than
59 byte .NET super-prime? It should be slower, because for primes that aren't super-prime,
it needs to backtrack the (?<-3>x){2,} all the way back to its beginning, whereas (?>(?<-3>x)*) won't backtrack.
But the 57 byte one is about 33% faster.

@AidenChow Nice explanation on this answer, +1. Unfortunately for my Pip answer, Pip's auto-vectorizing list multiplication doesn't clip to shortest, so I had to spend a few more bytes zipping the lists explicitly.

20:33
@Neil Yep... then it's trying ^x? for each backtracked step along the loop, instead of just \3 for each step. But that doesn't explain why trying ^x? just once would be slower than trying \3 for each backtracked step.
yeah I wasn't trying to understand the regex, just that the other changes don't seem to have much effect on the speed
