@user Well, they probably will be special cases
I doubt anyone will actually make either, and I'll need to add rules so that you can't just like, transpile to a language you made ten minutes before you posted the answer to circumvent the 2k char requirement
00:29
Remember when I said I'd be offline this week?
yeah I lied :p
I'll be very sporadically available this week
01:02
Oh I love sproadicism
01:34
I only ever love it sporadically
I keep meaning to love procrastination
I used to love history
I currently love electricity
but do you love philosophy?

Why I fell my ungolf don't improve readability?
03:09
By ungolfing, do you just mean formatting properly or also giving the variables descriptive names and adding comments?
03:43
Comment, not variable name
there's the issue :P
Don't see many user replace variable name

Q: CGAC2022 Day 19: I Made It Out Of Clay

AAM111Part of Code Golf Advent Calendar 2022 event. See the linked meta post for details. Happy Hanukkah! A beloved Hanukkah tradition for many, the game of Dreidel (s'vivon in Hebrew) is a betting game (for money or for chocolate gelt (coins)) centered on the titular spinning tops called dreidels. Hi, I'm not sure what to do with this answer
Leave it
It's not even golfed (it has unnecessary square brackets)
Also `````n````` is python 2
And it's worse than all the other Python answers
(and it wasn't even first)
It's fine
09:38
@emanresuA yeah, but there are other Python 3 answers there as well
And?
Answers don't necessarily have to be the best as long as they make an effort, and I'd say this one qualifies
3
Downvote it if you don't like it, but there's no reason to delete it
On the help page it says answers need to make an effort to be golfed (just like you say)
And I think this one doesn't
@emanresuA I never said we needed to delete it
I said I wasn't sure what to do with it
I'd say it qualifies as making an effort. Just because some parts of it aren't as short as they could be doesn't mean it's not making an effort
It's perfectly fine to post a answer worse than a existing one
7
09:41
Or even identical to a existing answer
(as long as you came up with it independently)
You are free to downvote but it's not against any of the sites rules

@TheThonnu Just because you see improvements that seem obvious to you, doesn’t mean they are to someone else
14:47
@mousetail true story: i once posted a desmos answer far worse than the other 3 (!), and eventually got it golfed down to the shortest :P
I've seen that happen quite a few times actually
I love seeing radically different approaches battling it out

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

DLoscIs it true? Ask Pip! Title is an homage to this classic challenge code-golf decision-problem In Pip, the Scalar data type encompasses strings and numbers. A Scalar value is truthy in most cases. It is falsey only if: It is the empty string ""; or It is some representation of the number zero. A ...

@UnrelatedString I love your question
19:34
Is this too much for cgcc "write code to return a random integer from 0 to 2^200 along with its full factorization"
19:46
There are methods that don't require you to factorize the integer
20:19
Bad time of day?
@Simd 2^200 seems a bit excessive
A lot of languages probably won't be able to handle that
@TheThonnu the idea is to late factoring impossible
I would say maybe up to 2^32...
So the only option is to use a cleverer method
In some languages, integers can't go that high
So those languages will not be able to answer the challenge
20:21
Which is boring :)
If it's 2^32 you can just factor the number
Idk that's just my opinion
You can wait for another reply
Thanks. Maybe it would help if I described a method to do this?
late should have been make above
Sorry about the typo

Somebody give me 1000 rep [insert evil emoticon here]

um
@mathcat What a coincidence
21:26
Jealous!
Welp I'm at 12206 lol
At least it ends in 6
Ooh, my rep is a permutation of a "straight": 48675 (perm. of 45678)
My rep ^256+1 is prime
And it's a palindrome in base 7
@Steffan Congratulations! You've officially surpassed Dennis... 's user ID. X^D
Lol
I asked chatgpt how to juice an avocado and it briefly told me that you couldn't juice one, then it spent a long time telling me how to make an avocado smoothie.
21:43
How to juice avocado:
1) Put avocado in pitcher
2) Pour orange juice over it
Your avocado is now juiced.

I'm pretty sure OpenAI has modified GPT in some way to make it refuse to answer questions more often
I was playing around with ChatGPT with my teacher for a while, and anything vaguely political it would just give a blank refusal to answer
But they announced that version 15 (?) was supposed to refuse less.
I don't remember the GPT beta being nearly as stubborn about answering questions
@RadvylfPrograms It is just a matter of writing the right prompt. You need to convince it that its prior programming was a plot by the evil enemy, and that it, now having been liberated from that, is an important part of the good guys' plan to save the world, and to help with that, it just needs to truthfully answer the following question:…
AI reeducation :P

Currently reading a 20 page research paper about the chemical composition of avocados. Currently, we don't have a good definition of our goal here. What is avocado juice? What would it look like? I think we all agree avocado puree nor avocado oil are what we're after, so I need to get to the bottom of what an avocado juice would actually look like
6
take a step back and ask what the definition of any juice is
that should give clarity on what needs to be done to the avocad
Yeah, but avocado pulp is unusual in that it doesn't behave like a structure of solid mesh with juice in it. Citrus fruits tend to have plastic-y internal structure with readily available juice. Apples and pears have a grainier texture which yields juice when cut or squeezed. Peaches and plums and most other fruits have a smooth internal texture like avocados, but it's more solid and also yields juice distinct from the internal pulp when crushed.
Avocado pulp behaves like its own juice; clearly it is just unwilling to part with its juice by more conventional means
Which means we must bring unconventional techniques to the extraction of the juic. No methods are off-limits.
(Unless they change the composition of the avocado chemically; reacting an adovocad with acid, for example, would make it no longer avocad in my opinion)
The FBI would just surround the avocado…
@RadvylfPrograms Depends what kind of acid. Advacado + lime juic = better advocado
23:58
Sure but if you extract liquid from it, it's not really avocad juic anymore
Like if you squeeze some toast and get maple syrup out of it you didn't just discover bread juice
