@NumberBasher my point isn't to argue but clear up an apparent misunderstanding

@Steffan It's pretty much as far away from J as possible :P
But it's a language y'all have almost certainly heard ofo

Ok, that's good news. I don't have to be prowling on esolangs.org

It's on TIO

lol idk that many langs of the top of my head :\

OH!!!
no more new contributor for me~~~

12:56 AM
@emanresuA oh good to know, im just gonna scroll through tio and try any langs that look familiar to me (is that even allowed??)

That's what I'm doing too
I may or may not beat you to it

Yeah, what's not allowed is automated bruteforcing

@emanresuA i wouldnt even know how to do that lol

@emanresuA does this have the numbers printed or the characters with codepoints printed?

Chars

12:58 AM
Quadrefunge-97/Quintefunge-97

@lyxal da hell?!?!? that is definitely NOT a lang im familiar with

I've definitely not heard of that

or alternatively befunge98 works too

Oh, I've heard of befunge.

never heard of that in my life

12:59 AM
u havent heard of befunge?
you've been living under a rock

how?

@lyxal Yep, intended lol
post a crack

I tried befunge-93 but not befunge-98 lol
Works in befunge 96 & 97 too

it was the d' that hinted at a multi-directional language

@OldSandboxPosts Should probably post one or both of these

@lyxal Oops lol, should've disguised that better

because 'd would be 100, but it's in reverse, so there has to be some sort of IP movement

If you look over it you'll see just how much effort I put into avoiding signs of a 2d lang, but I missed that one.

@AidenChow IDK

' push ascii value of next char d has ascii value of 100

1:03 AM
@lyxal is that commonly used in 2d langs or just specific to some ?
i recognized d as 100 but i didnt recognize 2d

it's common in fungeoids where the only type is numbers

@lyxal OHH
Anyone, above?

"fungeoid" tf
what that

fungeoid : a language like befunge

1:04 AM
@AidenChow befunge is like only the second most influential esolang, so idk how you don't know this

@lyxal never seen an answer using it before :|

@AidenChow have you seen ><> before?

i have

@lyxal oh ye, it was mentioned in the bitcycle github
have no idea what it is tho
kinda looks like a fish

><> is a fungeoid

1:05 AM
ngl

yeah
that's the point
the language is pronounced fish

oh lmaoo

><> was the first esolang I learned and it's what introduced me to fungeoids and stack-based languages

i've def heard of ><> and seen it used lol
i dont know ><> tho
fish, meanwhile, is a sh derivative, like bash and zsh

wait theres a lang called fish too ?
o_o
gonna get confused by that im pretty sure

1:08 AM
Technically a lang, but not really a lang
it's a shell

I made a fungeoid once
it was the first esolang I ever made

similar to sh, bash, zsh, etc.

@lyxal curlyfrick?
or minefriff?

minefriff
curlyfrick is a brainfrick clone

1:10 AM
i should make a crappy lang sometime

@Steffan that was the 3rd (or 4th depending on what you count as esolang) esolang I made

i guess keg and vyxal are technically esolangs

"technically"

not what I meant

well u also have keta

1:12 AM
Minefriff was first
Keg was second
Keta (which I never finished) was third (although if it was never finished is it really third?)
Curlyfrick was fourth
Vyxal was fifth
@Steffan that's what I meant

"technically" the technical world is the same as the reality
but in reality it isn't

so it's depending on what you count as "made"

I first created Jyxal, a JS port of Vyxal which I never finished. This was a bit after I started helping with Vyxal though. Then I created Javastack which I had a fun competition of with Lyxal, but stopped because I didn't want to redesign the lang for that purpose. I created tarfish, which was kinda a disappointment, then tried and failed to merge Vyxal and Jelly. I helped with a few langs along the way and recently created Halfwit, which is complete but regrettable.

i've just been starting and abandoning jelly-except-it's-brachylog concepts for like two years

@RadvylfPrograms heres my thoughts on this challenge: i do like the sound of this challenge, and i feel like "largest turing incomplete character set" is the best way to phrase its name, but i feel like it needs some more specific rules on what actually constituted the charset, to prevent languages from being like "actually I could slap all of these 500 unicode characters into a string or whatever without being able to make it turing complete, so my score is 532"
possibly something like saying that unless your language actually needs unicode characters or has its own charset, your charset should be assumed to be ASCII/printable ASCII

> Like code-golf, competition is purely within a language, not between different ones
[...]
Since it's quite likely almost all of Unicode could go in the character set, you can also list the characters not in your character set and try to minimize that
still a good point though; maybe define the score as the number of excluded characters just so we don't have too much staring at numbers in the millions

i suppose, but that kinda forces scoring into being "how many are not in your charset"
another possible restriction would be requiring that the characters have to have some possible use outside of like string/char literals and comments
so if the only thing you can do with a char is name a variable or a function that, thats okay, but if youd have to put it in string/comment/whatever to make it valid in the code, thats not okay

that gets into subjective territory for no real reason imo

1:23 AM
that would help to weed out, for example, brainfuck being like "well every character that isnt an instruction is not parsed, so all those are allowable"
i feel like thats not that subjective? saying that it has to be useable in a context where its actually being parsed in some manner is fairly clear

@UnrelatedString My idea was Jelly's syntax * vyxal's builtins

oh like that
yeah good point

Yeah, I think that one could be an actually good idea
@UnrelatedString Agreed

@des54321 That's why I'm rewording it to the smallest set variant

@emanresuA i've entertained at several points the idea of designing a language that's fundamentally stack-based but looks fixed-adicity tacit under most circumstances

1:27 AM
It's sort of the default that you'll be able to put millions of characters in a string or comment

i guess what im trying to say is, its fine if you can put millions of characters into a variable or function name, but if the only way to make them not error is to stick them in a string or comment, that doesnt really count except to pad up your score

That's a bad idea for a whole list of reasons
It's unobservable, it undermines the point of the challenge IMO, it's unnecessary, and it goes against the recommendations for challenges even if it did manage to stay open

why would you want to do that?

@emanresuA i just did :p

is it too obviously 2d?
@AidenChow how...
tio bashing?

3:45 AM
i was just trying random langs on tio that looked like they were 2d
i basically just stumbled upon mariolang and tried it
and it worked :)
i initially thought it was milky way or smth lol

i mean
do you understand how it works?
is it too obviously 2d?

@NumberBasher i mean it was kinda obvious
i thougt milky way cuz it looked like a bunch of stars lol
or like starry

i mean
1/10 of the symbols are fillers
9/10 i mean

lol

im working on the other solution now
in ;#+ it outputs 0235669910111212131520210 lol

3:49 AM
@Steffan lmao nice

in A Pear Tree, it outputs "a partridge"

wait which other solution ?

I patched the Garbage Collector for Funky3, so now there's no (obvious) memory leaks. Unfortunately, now while(1){} can freeze the browser.

@Steffan HAHA thats funny, most things i put as code prints out that too
probably some error msg?

maybe lol

yah
because else it would be too apparent
basically like
see, mario is walking down here that is the wall this must be mariolang

@Steffan I feel like the ;'s in this are a part of a code-point based language
Rather than line enders

@Steffan that's in esolang and proabably not in tio
@ATaco hint, it is

oh its not on tio, that makes it harder

3:57 AM
lol
i was just bruteforcing tio lol

ok time for some other methods
goes to google search
prob wont work tho lol

What if all the numbers and letters are ignored

@AidenChow don't think that's gonna be helpful
^ yah
@Steffan then you end up with ;;;;;;;;;;; something
another big hint tho i think it is obvious, some lines are ignored

with tildes and stuff

Never gonna give you up is not helping you

3:58 AM
Obviously not
But the slashes there might
wait what if it's 2D
and something goes down the semicolons or smth

slashes remind me of marbelous, probably wrong though

hows we supposed to test it if it's not on tio
download it and compile it and stuff?

download the interpreter :|

@AidenChow let me check if there is an interpreter
bye for now!

You just got out of a qban, please take this as a lesson to use the sandbox properly and respond to feedback and downvotes.
Furthermore, you're asking people to create a bijection between sets of strings, and then to create a decoder that can somehow tell the difference between multiple bijections. It's trivial to create an encoder that'll fool every possible decoder - simply take an existing encoder and apply a simple transformation to the input to that.
For example, if the domain of what can be inputted is strings of lowercase letters, shifting each letter right a place before passing it into the encoder will yield exactly the same set of outputs, such that no decoder can tell the difference, but different decoded results.
