@wizzwizz4 I just golfed one of your your only Pyth answer from '15 by 13 14 bytes :)
@Mr.Xcoder I performed a direct translation from a Python program. that I also wrote. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Pyth builtin to do the whole thing.
By 16 now
Ternaries. My only weakness.
I have also used spacing tricks
Like reeplacing =+Q... once and then outputting Q, by just printing +Q...
@Mr.Xcoder I think that deserves its own answer. (If you credit. :-p)
17:09
@wizzwizz4 Ok, I'll post it :)
:o i have two messages pertaining to me on the starboard... but they're not mine
@totallyhuman Isn't the "painstakingly fun XD" one yours?
ah well that's offscreen for me
@totallyhuman WheatWizard's totallyhuman answer :))) xDD
@wizzwizz4 Posted.
@Mr.Xcoder Link to mine? :-p (Optional.)
17:15
@wizzwizz4 Oh yeah, sure.
Thx for the vote :)
@wizzwizz4 I now realise I can golf it by ~10 bytes
@wizzwizz4 I didn't say it was you. I didn't even ping you. I thanked whomever did so.
@Mr.Xcoder You've basically decimated mine, then thrown away the bytes you didn't kill off, then arranged the ones you did kill in a big line and counted them. :-)
2
@wizzwizz4 Here we go: ++5%^%Q4 3 7
@wizzwizz4 Now I decimated my own solution lol :)
Goddammit the next sequence has a golfed explanation again
> Series-parallel numbers
@HyperNeutrino The OEIS challenge is still alive?!
Yup. I revived it last night.
17:25
@HyperNeutrino Nice.

caird coinheringaahingThis is an answer chaining question that uses sequences from OEIS, and the length of the previous submission. can i get some feedback on this?
@HyperNeutrino Lol I totally forgot about the rectangle on JHT :))
17:28
rip. same xD
oh apparently the next sequence is nonn,easy
lel they're lying
I don't have time rn for that anyway
@HyperNeutrino That means it's hell
@totallyhuman Sure, taking a look
Yup. The ones that aren't easy are complete death.
> non-easy
Oh that's what it means!
@totallyhuman Wait, do you want us to create a new stack snippet?
if you want to :P
yes, you are allowed to take the current snippet and golf it
not very interesting though
17:30
@totallyhuman Did you mention that it is guaranteed to be a code-golf challenge?
no because it's not
Oh... Then I should read again
lol
it was restricted to code-golf, but then i changed it
anyways i'll be posting in an hour or so
Hmm, it looks good
it's probably not gonna go well, since the community doesn't like challenges much ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
17:33
It isn't very interesting, but it's fine (IMHO)

Q: Series-Parallel Numbers: Explanation for OEIS A000137

HyperNeutrinoThe explanation for OEIS A000137 states simply: Series-parallel numbers It offers no explanation as to what that means and a web search doesn't give anything useful (series-parallel numbers gives a bunch of things about circuits and "series-parallel numbers" gives mostly OEIS sequences). W...

Halp pls
last time i tried one, it got 7 points and 3 answers
so yeah, doesn't go well
@HyperNeutrino Where's Leaky for the rescue?
Given that they've computed this many, I doubt it's too hard, at least compared to the last one.
@totallyhuman My only challenge has +33/-3
I just only need +2 for silver code-golf :)))
17:34
@Mr.Xcoder :P Leaky gave me help for the graph one that I saved and WW/ENW and OP of the sequence gave me help for the last one. Dennis tried but the explanation was golfed so it was hard to tell what it meant :P
Dennis didn't know what a sequence meant?!?!?!?!?!
some oeis explanations suck
Either that or he didn't have time for it :P
@HyperNeutrino I gave your Q an upvote, really wanna see the answer
17:37
@HyperNeutrino I am pretty sure it is related to Physics
Probably electronics.
Because there are series and parallel electrical circuits or groups of resorts
I should try emailing N.J.A. Sloane about this one :P He wrote it. But I don't want to bother the OP of the sequence yet :P
Why do I keep typing reson lately :{
idk, there must be a reson why
17:41
@HyperNeutrino Someone saw your question :))
yay
I saw the edit
hrm
i thought there was a standard loophole on link shorteners
i can't find one though
i think there was definitely a meta about it though
@totallyhuman URL shorteners are disallowed by default, you don't need to provide a URL

that looks hard

17:44
@Mr.Xcoder which one
@HyperNeutrino The very last one
like the one that reworded the question
Ya, why would you put it in the question
?
I don't see what's wrong with it; I approved it btw
I didn't answer anything on M.SE in a while, I should do so
@HyperNeutrino As you wish >_<
17:46
lol
opls say math.SE not M.SE; M.SE looks like Mother Meta
@HyperNeutrino I should answer in both places :))
:P
{:}
It's a clam peeking out of its shell
I am extremely STUPID!
:o
why?
show us a formal proof and then we may accept it :P
17:48
@totallyhuman Long story, typing
I have solved a Physics problem with an equation that took me 2 whole pages to solve and the answer didn't match the one from the book. I threw the pages in the trashcan, then I have redrawn everything and re-done the calculations. Yet again, I got the exact same result. I was so mad that I got my exercise book and thrown it in the wall >_<. Then, I started again, and got the same thing. It turned out that I was right in the first place, because I looked at the result of the wrong exercise
How did you get the book out of the wall? And does your wall now have a hole in it?
@HyperNeutrino No, the wall is a whole, it has no holes. The book is fine too
can I get some feedback here?
17:55
@EriktheOutgolfer Add some test cases
> Incoming!
Do it now :) Test cases are the only feedback I can give :P
oh wait nvm i'm not posting today
rn I'm making them

Q: Polyglot the OEIS!

SEJPMIntroduction We all know and love the on-line encyclopedia of integer sequences (OEIS). So what if we made an off-line version? Well, that would be kinda too easy, wouldn't it and how would you select a sequence with our standard interface!? No. We need an easier solution to this. A polyglot! I...

Q: Number of sums of factors

Wheat WizardGiven a positive integer n > 1 determine how many numbers can be made by adding integers greater than 1 whose product is n. For example if n = 24 we can express n as a product in the following ways 24 = 24 -> 24 = 24 24 = 12 * 2 -> 12 + 2 = 14 24 = 6 * 2 * ...

18:36
@HyperNeutrino lolno
@NewMainPosts that's an interesting sequence, each time we encounter a new largest f(n), n appears to be a multiple of 6
starting from f(n) being 2, we have f(6)=2, f(12)=3, f(18)=4, f(24)=5
(or at least according to the jelly answer)
hi all
thinking of this challenge. golf an O(nlogn) algorithm for the longesst increasing subsequence
has this been done?
18:54
Foes anyone know of a short way to get the product of a list in Pyth?
reduce by multiplication?
oh pyth doesn't have reduce
I will guess it hasn't been posed before :)

but f(30)=5 so that rule is still borked

@totallyhuman Probably the OP should include the expression to compute the probability.. Or at least more test cases
Not sure if I misinterpret the question (I'm not very good with probabilities) but also I get a different result for c=32 and p=3.. (0.1347)
Also the output specs are not very well defined IMHO

Is cython considered to be a different language than Python?
languages are defined by implementation so yeah
you could also do jython
lol
22:08
Do we have any (prior) ruling on whether Node.js and Browser JS are different langs (for polyglots)?
Reason:
Do different versions/implementations of the same language count as different langauges (like Python2 and Python3, or like browser JS and Node.js)? — ThePirateBay 33 mins ago
22:44
I think it's important to differentiate minor language differences, like Lua 4 -> Lua 5, compared to major ones, RProgN -> RProgN2

Does a call stack overflow count as running out of memory for infinite output challenges?
It's the difference between whenx is*{writex ifx==1when0secondpassx=x}x=read() and whenx is*{writex x=x}x=read() for a MaybeLater truth machine
Actually, I can probably do the latter shorter...
Oh, the second one is invalid anyway.
nice thought train
I do try.
whenx is1x=writex x=writeread() is valid.
(Once again, assuming a callstack overflow is valid)
yesterday, by ASCII-only
also: new short ppcg thing just it isn't really short: http://not-s.tk?g
when0secondpass is the shortest method to avoid that callstack overflow...
@ASCII-only ppcg.a-ta.co also works.
@ATaco :/ refused to connect
23:12
Try again.
@ATaco still broken
Strange, it's working on my end...
@ATaco working on isup.me/ppcg.a-ta.co too

@ATaco no
@ATaco secondpass?
Sorry, I'm alive again.
@Anyone pls still don't know what's the best way to do dictionary compression
23:25
Yeah, that link worked.
@Pavel Async's the call, so Node resets the call stack.
Maybe you should make that happen by default, as an optimization.
@ATaco 0 time delay?
Problem with doing that is it will first continue processing anything higher in the time stack.
@Pavel yeah especially when it's an async language in nature
@ATaco use an async function and an event queue
pls
That's probably a better idea.
23:29
so basically function run () { if (events.length) events.shift().run(); } setInterval(run, 0);
Yeah, I know how it works.
I just need to implement it, which I'll do shortly.

@NewMetaPosts There is a lot to consider about this.
can someone help me out with something? im trying to write a program to count the number of polyominoes without holes
i just need to test for if a polyomino has holes
23:34
A Polyomino..? Like an N sided Domino..?
domino with n tiles
Don't think I can help with this.
@ATaco :| what is with your order of operations
basically i have an array of squares and i need to know if it has a hole
@HusnainRaza hole = 0? what language
23:36
anyone know WebGL
@Tobi kinda
@ASCII-only Order of operations? Never heard of 'em. Only Order I need is LTR.
python
and a hole is a blank region of space that has edges all around it
can you not dynamically set gl_PointSize?
actually i think i got it
23:38
as an attribute
...
attribute float pointSize;
void main()
{
  fragColor = colour;
  gl_PointSize = 100.0;
  // gl_PointSize = pointSize;
  float ps = pointSize;
  ...
}
never mind i dont
@Tobi use the function glPointSize
oh thanks!
howd you find answer so fast
23:39
@Tobi google fu :P (well idk if it actually works)
should I use function for gl_Position too?
i tried that :(
(Actually I'm pretty sure the Order of Operations is R2L in MaybeLater)
@Tobi no function for that
Im going to try this: glEnable( GL_PROGRAM_POINT_SIZE )
i got error using function
@Tobi but "it may be written at any time" makes me think you can just set it
@ATaco yes it is >_> why
23:42
I'm setting it but nothings happening
but when I use 100.0 it works
@Tobi can you jsfiddle pls
which is weird
@ASCII-only It was easier to write.
@HusnainRaza loop through all but first and last row/column and check a[i-1][j], a[i+1][j], a[i][j-1], a[i][j+1]
@ATaco ................................................
:P
If you're looking at MaybeLater like it should be a true functional language, you are going to be disappointed.
23:44
@ATaco it's not functional it's eventual :P i.e. things maybe will eventually execute
It's a language that assumes when you give it writex=3 you want to output 3.
@ATaco 0/10 srsly
of course, if you don't care about freedom of variable names, it's much golfier than usual.
what if hole is bigger than one tile
@HusnainRaza oh :| then i'd do a fill and see if it reaches the outside
23:47
That sort of programming goes against everything I've taught myself over the years but it's so much golfier.
@ATaco uh no? this is nowhere near golfy
Doing a flood fill on every tile to see if it reaches the edge or w/e probably isn't the most optimized way to do it.
@ATaco yeah but really you can't really say anything look you much you cheated for maybelater
23:50
Does anyone understand my username?
this is cool
@ASCII-only I did nothing but cheat for MaybeLater.
@LeakyNun :( :P

@Tobi me
I'm surprised you're not curious as to why R2L turned out easier than L2R.
im confused, ascii only just joiend too
