@HyperNeutrino what about 1 = [2 = 1, 1 = [2, 1 = 2], 2 = 1]?
and doing #"symbolmap" will give you all of the currently stored variables >.<
@Uriel 1 and 2 both become [1, [1, 1], [1, 1]]
because first it makes 2 evaluate to 1
and then it makes 1 evaluate to [2, 1 = 2] which is really [1, 2] which then sets 1 to 2, keeping 2 evaluating to 1.
But, the 1 = [2, 1 = 2] overrides the 1 = 2 and sets 1 to [1, 2]
wait no I don't get how that works either
seems perfectly normal for me
what would [1=2, 2=3, 1, 2, 3] evaluate to?
would 2=3 overwrite 1 to 3 too?
there's another issue: 10 - 8 doesn't work anymore
subtraction in general ceased to exist
@dzaima [2, 3, 3, 3, 3]

The design of the Cthulhu esolang is really static. I haven't done any progress in 3 days :/

As some might know (from earlier chat messages), I want to make an esolang called `Cthulhu`, and I was wondering what you think the empty program should output, vote: a) `Face the fury of Cthulhu`, b) `Cthulhu`, c) A random String, d) The alphabet, e) `Hello World!`, f)`“Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn.`, g)`When the stars were right, They could plunge from world to world through the sky; but when the stars were wrong, They could not live.`, h) `Мисля, че една от най-големите милости, които ни се оказват в този свят, е невъзможността на човешкият ум да осъзнае своята нищо

@NewMainPosts Almost in time
Very curious to see a Python one
how does one add sympy to python
import sympy?
ImportError: No module named 'sympy'
You have to install it.
18:27
how
pip install sympy?
pip install sympy
Ah, ninja'd because of slow internet
or python -m pip install sympy
^ I have to use that technique to install modules in python 3
thanks
If you have both python and python3, I think you have to do pip3 install sympy
18:35
I got that far, but it's on any input saying ERROR: name 'Parser' is not defined
@dzaima which program did you run?
interpreter.py, as you suggested
And parser.py is in the same directory as interpreter.py, right?
yep
Can you start a python REPL in the same directory as interpreter.py?
18:47
yeah
what does __import__('parser') give?
<module 'parser' (built-in)>
hm. okay.
yay
Do import parser, and then what does parser give?
18:50
I renamed the parser file and it worked
and the imprort too ofc
Hm. I know that parser is already a package on most systems. maybe I should change it.
first I want a name for the language though.
Jim
Jim
@Mr.Xcoder And I am very curious to see a Pyth one
strange. all of the operators just died.
18:52
@Jim hmm...
oh that explains why
the parser isn't working properly after I did something weird
I need to change the list structure sometime >.<
is addition supposed to work yet?
but it doesn't
I implemented it all the way back when assignment didn't even exist yet
but it doesn't parse properly
18:54
ah
the expected behaviour is this:
1 + 2

+
|    1
|    2
but what actually happens is this:
1 + 2

1
|    +
|    |    2

what is the meaning of 'downvote'?

@LeakyNun hmm…
@dzaima The latest push fixes operations.

@LeakyNun Quite a good solution actually
@Downgoat No.

@Jim nah, I'm going to bed now

Jim
@LeakyNun I do it for you? x)
@Jim sure
@HyperNeutrino That only updated pycache?
Whoops, I did add */* which didn't add the files themselves.

@LeakyNun Done that
19:09
@Jim thanks
Well rip, now brackets don't work with operators.
hey I fixed it
It really confused me for a bit why 17-1 gave unsupported operand type(s) for -: 'Integer' and 'str' lol

@dzaima So you know how right now [1 2] works for list notation?

which one
@dzaima I'm removing that feature :3 :P

19:34
@HyperNeutrino why D:
@dzaima I don't like having it exist. Besides, it makes further development tricky if I want to keep it.
And also [[1] [2]] doesn't behave the way you want it to.
[[1][2]] => [[1, [2]]]
Not sure if the space list separator is that good as stuff like [2 -3] could cause strange problems
and [2, -3] doesn't even work
and 2,-3 by some reason subtracts
Anyone here good with clang/libclang
1. It's not a space list separator; it can't push an item as the child of an item otherwise any operators will give errors when parsed. Rather, it just traverses up until it no longer is on an item and then pushes under that.
2. I'll look into why that's happening. It probably has to do with the fact that `,` doesn't actually separate items in a list, it just pushes the current parent target to the root of the current parent target.
Why do I get, for some reason (not repcap this time) only +1 for an upvote on an answer?
19:42
Also with the latest push, [2, -3] doesn't even work now.
@Mr.Xcoder You're talking about these two right?
@HyperNeutrino Yes.
Hm. Strange.
BTW, it's repcap I think.
Because of your bounty.
I don't think that counts again cap.
You have 4 upvotes on "It was just a bug" that didn't give you any reputation.
@HyperNeutrino Oh, really. I hit 200, but it excludes bounties :/
yup :I
how do you cap so much
I have capped once
@HyperNeutrino Because of the last 5 answers I posted
@HyperNeutrino I lost 240 rep yesterday because of repcap. I should have gotten 440 :/
19:48
:o
we should get cap lifted on ppcg. it doesn't make much sense
3 ups for Spanish ID card control character calculator, 4 for Build a Faulty XKCD Browser, 18 ups for It was just a bug
All lost ^
And 50 today :PPP
@HyperNeutrino And fast.

Q: Revisiting the rep cap (yes, again)

Jon SkeetTL;DR: The rep cap system isn't as effective or fair as it might be. I'm proposing one alternative for comment, and would welcome other suggestions too. Who could have asked that, of course.
The one who hasn't achieved 1M because of it...

19:52
mhm yup
"only" 957k rep
@HyperNeutrino I think I will get in the (far) future
What is that?
100 caps?
oh 50.
100 is legendary, right.
Legendary is 100. Of course, Dennis and Martin
19:53

@Mr.Xcoder not surprised :P
> Even Jon Skeet cannot parse HTML using regular expressions.
A creepy SO Answer that got, as usual overvoted.
SO posts get either no votes, or way too much
Jon Skeet is probably the biggest meme on SO SE the entire internet
@Mr.Xcoder yup. exactly.
@HyperNeutrino Were you saying something got too many upvotes?
Jon Skeet needs to answer one more question to get the silver tag badge :P He has over the required score but under the required number of answers.
On the other hand, I have over the required number of answers for silver , but way under the required score :(
@Mr.Xcoder yup that's the first thing I think of when I think of overvoting :I
I upvoted that 🤣
I wish I hadn't
19:58
I did too lol
I just un-upvoted it
Of course
@Mr.Xcoder Apparently I can't anymore lol
it needs to be edited.
I like how the rep is just plain linear
19:59
@dzaima a lot of people have it like that because the cap just keeps them bounded under that straight line.
On your graph @dzaima?
some people, on the other hand, aren't as limited because they get so many bounties that they frequently go over the cap.
I really have to go. BYE
20:04
@HyperNeutrino how do you not know about that :P
@totallyhuman I just found it :P

20:16
My parents are afraid that they will have to change the rooter if they turn it off, so they don't
@Mr.Xcoder ah ok. it's 16:15 for me :P so you are 7 hours ahead of me, putting you at UTC+2/+3, which is somewhere in europe
@BusinessCat 4? try 6.
Romania
ah ok interesting.
If you stay up until 6 you might as well just not sleep that night, imo
UTC +3, summer time +2.
20:16
I still did though :3
I think latest I've gone to bed is 4:30 am
But I've pulled all nighters before
latest for me used to be 2:30 until it became 4 and then 6
not counting the time I stayed up til 5 and then went to sleep and woke up at 6
I stay up until 4 AM because I can't sleep
I stay up until 4 AM because my parsers don't work the first time.
@HyperNeutrino I hit repcap every day because I'm in the 3-month summer holiday :P
And it's the first month :), since we got free on the 16th of June
20:19
I've stayed up all night because I just didn't feel like sleeping
And start on 10th of Sep
@Mr.Xcoder have you try counting goats? (counting sheep is great way to scare yourself because evil sheep to the point where you can't sleep)
@Mr.Xcoder That's 12 days in the future :) Surely you meant June?
@Downgoat I always count goats, but unforunately sheeps take control of my mind and then I can't sleep
June sorry
Fixed
20:21
I stood up till 8 AM a couple days ago :p
@Downgoat What happens if you meet a sh**p?
@dzaima that's when I wake up in The sunmer holiday :P
I wake up at around 9 because my parents make me :P If they don't wake me, I typically sleep until about 12-1 PM :P
Even if I go to sleep at a decent time (like before 1AM)
@HyperNeutrino My mom wakes up at 12 if she isn't working

Milestone: The first user this quarter, the bronze badge, hit repcap four times last 7 days and got an answer with ~85 upvotes

@Downgoat I have no idea what smaz is
(also, wow I can't believe you managed to ask me a question right before I decided to check in)
A compression library? I kinda thought so
Looks cool, but it's awfully simple. It just has a dictionary of 254 compressable substrings
(unless I'm mistaken, because I don't know a whole lot of C)
and I'd rather not use an algorithm that actually anti-compresses some strings

hello
Hmm, what's the difference between the two rooms?
The first one is for new answers to old challenges that have been buried because many people (myself included) ignore challenges that I've seen already that get bumped to the top, either by an edit or an answer. (There are some exceptions; if I see an answer to the Tetris GoL challenge, I will immediately open it to see if I need to flag it or if someone has transcended human knowledge). The second one is for answers that took a lot of effort but did not get rewarded sufficiently for the effort.
I would like to bring attention to this "answer":

I suspected so.

I do not think this is a legitimate attempt to answer
Certainly not.
22:55
I mean, obviously they didn't just mash random keys because most of it makes sense, but it looks like they copy-pasted from some random JSF code
Yes. Even so, it's not matched. It might become matched if you pad its left and right with some uncopied content but I doubt it is an attempt to provide a solution. Anyway, I've left a comment and a downvote, and we'll see what the poster decides to do with it (I didn't vote to delete it because I want to make sure the poster sees my comment first).
Removing the invalid code at the beginning you can get "ilter" from the first part, which is a common way to get the Function object (from []["filter"])
Hm. Okay.
It's definitely not matched though, even if you consider potential content to the left or the right.
