well

Last call; posting in ~5 minutes: codegolf.meta.stackexchange.com/a/12786/58974

can't do that yet can I?

Okx
true
okay have patience then

hey does the macgyver's toolbox thing need a full program?

Okx
a program or a function i think

11:03 AM
so we can return 37?
instead of printing it?
that would save tons of bytes and keep some characters for my go answer

Okx
Oh nevermind:
> You must write a valid program in one of the languages provided using only the characters in the toolbox. Your program should output the number of answers already present on this question.
never mind again
> You may write either a full program or a function as your answer. Since REPLs are different languages they will not be allowed. (use the TIO version of every language)

lol
this should be vali, right?

Okx
yep
i just edited the post so it says program/function instead of program now
so it doesn't contradict itself

alright getting next tool box...

oh good @totallyhuman glad to see you're doing Go :D

11:12 AM
you asked for something awesome, i delivered... a 20-byte solution in go?

Okx
@totallyhuman you can't get the next toolbox before posting the answer

yeah but i have to remove every character i used so i'm doing that rn

I might do a SILOS one next

Okx
I have an Agony solution ready to post right after totallyhuman ;)

aww, i'll do SILOS after you then... depending on what characters you use up

Okx
11:15 AM
Only + and ., that okay?

well it depends on what totallyhuman's Go answer uses up too, SILOS is a little verbose
hmm might not be able to do SILOS, I need int

we have D lang now

I'll have to wait and see what new chars are added after yours and Okx's posts
Sidenote: this challenge is a really cool idea
Kudos to WW

ok i hope i did everything right...

Okx
^

11:20 AM
@totallyhuman looks good
oh we have 1 back, I might be able to do logicode
in fact we have space, \n and \t, I'm gunna do wsf

11:53 AM
@LegionMammal978 different strawpoll?

Also, would anyone have any frequency data for all Unicode characters in general?

dammit @Okx you were supposed to be posting an Agony solution, you took so long that Emigna stole my WSF one :(

Wait, the Consortium did a 2009 study on it

Q: Compute OEIS A005434

LembikThe task is to compute OEIS A005434 as quickly as possible. Consider a binary string S of length n. Indexing from 1, we can determine if S[1..i+1] matches S[n-i..n] exactly for all i in order from 0 to n-1. For example, S = 01010 gives [Y, N, Y, N, Y]. This is because 0 matches 0, 0...

@MartinEnder Hi.. Yes I am back on binary arrays :)

11:59 AM
@Mayube Sorry! I was unaware that you were working on the same one. Just saw that the toolbox included an interesting language I'd never seen before that seemed easy enough to do with the chars available, so I figured I'd go for it :/

@Emigna no worries, I managed to do reticular after you :)

that's competition folks

@Emigna yours seems a little more interesting than mine anyway, which was just 51 +'s, a ., 6 more + then another .

It is a pretty cool challenge for discovering new languages :)

agreed!

12:05 PM
I tried logicode and closure yesterday, but was missing a crucial char for each (afaik).

I tried uBASIC, but kept getting a syntax error and couldn't find good enough documentation to figure out why

Ooo SE sites onebox?

if you use url yes

I also looked at ELF, but I'm glad someone else did that one :)

Q: Diamondize a matrix

Kenny Lau The task is to output a representation of the matrix where the top left element is on top, the anti-diagonal is the central row and the bottom right element is at the bottom. Also is that a PPCG challenge?

@HyperNeutrino it should be, but I don't really remember
I posted it a year and two months ago...

@LegionMammal978 APL, 4 chars: ,∘≢⌸ anonymous tacit function. Just give it all the world's Unicode data as argument.

Jim
@Shaggy Thanks for the link

12:27 PM
oh god, Templates is literally just a subset of C++

everyone needs a subset of C++ :)
preferably a very small one

Templates Considered Harmful is a programming language composed of C++ templates, which is executed by having a C++11-enabled compiler evaluate a typedef
@WheatWizard just wanna say, thanks for the MacGyver challenge, it's a little unorthodox as far as challenges go, but it's really fun
however refilling 12 chars each time is definitely too much

Yeah

Anonymous
@Mayube I don't think GitHub repos get oneboxed

I might want to do a rerun with less characters

12:34 PM
if you look at the wsl entry for example, it used 3 characters, meaning those 3 plus 9 others were refilled
at the same time though you don't want it toolow
cos otherwise a language like Java or C comes along and uses up half the lowercase letters and some of the most used symbols
and you don't want to reach a toolbox lock-state, where none of the languages in the toolbox can complete the task with the characters allowed

I think I am going take the average from this one make it the new number of added characters and throw in a saving grace type mechanic

good idea
just hope your "fixed" version won't get dupe-hammered

Perhaps the old can be duped

oh yeah good point

Pavel suggested a scrabble "blank" tile be added

12:37 PM
ah so a sort of wildcard character?

user165474
I just realized that I made one of my old challenges a subset of a newer challenge; maybe the older one should be duped? idk

user165474
though the old one is like 1000x easier and has some cool tricks to do it

I'm excited for braingolf to show up too

What are some good c modules to write games and display good math pictures ?

12:53 PM
Hey guys, I made a Befunge interpreter/editor for android. Thought you'd like that. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fliife.befunge

user165474
Ooh :D Cool! Nice!

Few bugs there and there, but works correctly most of the time

user165474

Weird, I did something to my tokenizer and now it's duplicating all of the tokens except the first one.

Q: Am I a Special N-bonacci Number?

GryphonThe N-bonacci sequence, originally invented by @DJMcMayhem in this question, is a sequence generated by starting with the integers 0 and 1, and then adding the previous N numbers to generate the next number. 1:33 PM
@HyperNeutrino what do you mean by "translated"

@cairdcoinheringaahing Unless I'm misunderstanding, it seems like <take_input><print_S> would be the most efficient method for any golfing language with the current scoring method

@Emigna scoring is the issue I'm trying to fix. I'm thinking of having a minimum number of recipes that must be handled e.g. 5

That would definitely be an improvement

user165474
@cairdcoinheringaahing For example, sticks can be crafted in 6 different ways by moving the wood around.

@HyperNeutrino in minecraft but for this challenge they can only be made like that

Strange realization: outputting via exit code is always shorter than printing a boolean in Python
You just 1/value instead of print value. Except I guess that negates it :O

@Lynn exit(value)?
oh that's the same byte

@cairdcoinheringaahing that was just my opinion on the rounding to 1 decimal.

Damn, that is satisfying

@DJMcMayhem and here i am happy that i reached 2k :P Nice job :]

:D
I also just recently passed 50k network

Has anyone in here used Triangular, or has experience with two-dimensional stack-based languages?

5:35 PM
I have experience with the latter

What 2d langs aren't stackbased?
Other than TacO

Hexagony

Right, forgot about it because it's weird.

It's incredibly weird
I thought about making cubically 2d but I figured it was horrible enough
@KritixiLithos Nvm, figured it out. but thanks though :D

huh

5:45 PM
@totallyhuman you didn't know that?
Oh you probably don't use StackOverflow

nope
i'm usually the one looking it up on stack not answering

Heh same nowadays
there's too much trash to find really anything good to answer
btw, can moderators award someone's bounty for them?

: userscript to switch answer sort to oldest on challenges

@totallyhuman You can just select the 'oldest' sort tab...

@MDXF No, afaik.

5:57 PM
Lame

They can cancel bounties.
Why would you want mods to be able to award someone's bounty?

@MDXF automation :P

Did they cancel those +500 bounties because "such and such is cool and I want to give him internet points"?

I don't remember.

@Phoenix I started a bounty and I want the bountied question/answer to get as many views as possible, but I won't be here when it expires
The latest I could award it is Monday morning

5:59 PM
@MDXF It will be automatically awarded to the answer with the most upvotes, if any answer has a score over 2

ಠ_ಠ the answer doesn't have enough votes
Oh well

uhm languages shouldn't repeat in the toolbox right?
we did go and it's still there

ok I have three bytes left in which I need to push an integer less than 48 (only able to push up to 15 at a time), print it as ASCII, pop it, and then print the top of stack value
pls halp

what's the language?

Triangular

6:07 PM

I golfed off two bytes due to this
(it was originally replace("0"," "))
(this is Python)

What are the rules on challenges that are written by someone else? I'd like to write a KOTH that plays a game written by someone else. I'm not sure how much of the rules I can copy if any

@muddyfish I think you can copy-paste from someone's challenge if you put something next to the pasted part, e.g. directly stolen from [link]

@MDXF it's a minigame from a paid for game though

Hmm... then is it even legal to have it on here in the first place?
Also, I just spent 20 minutes writing a Triangular program and idk how the description looks; is this clear enough?

6:15 PM
@MDXF I'm not sure. I might ask the dev if it's OK to repost it

@muddyfish That works too
Oh... you have way more rep than me. heh.

:P
Rep isn't everything and I haven't been active in about 4 months because of school and personal things

Nah just saying you probably know more about the site than I do
Ha I wonder how much rep I'll have when I come back after two months of inactivity, especially since I've posted 40+ answers over the past few days. lol

In my 4 months of relative inactivity I've gained 2k rep

:o
Then again you probably have way more answers than me

6:20 PM
499 answers and 13 questions. I need to post another answer apparently

wow, you have twice more answers than me

Are you good with super-complicated languages and/or quines?

@muddyfish actually you need to post 13 more

@MDXF by super complicated languages, depends what you mean, though probably not. Quines are really just a formula that you can apply though it takes some doing to work it out for a language
exactly. Both are special numbers

quines are dead simple for 2d languages like ><>

6:22 PM
@muddyfish I've just got a +1000 extended bounty for a Cubically quine and I'd love to see it done but nobody wants to try :P

That looks really nasty to play with

Yep
That's why I made it >:D
I love writing languages and I love quines, so I naturally love quines in my languages. I already gave WheatWizard +200 for a Triangular quine
btw if you want to play with Cubically there's a fake TIO version

heh

Dennis is adding it later today. Then again, he may have agreed to that before he looked at it... :P

@MDXF is the output the cube or the notepad?

6:35 PM
The notepad/cube do not count. They are for debugging purposes.
I should have them print to stderr...

I finally got around to getting another server so all my links should now work again :D

so what is the notepad?

@KritixiLithos A register
(see the repository README for language details)
@KritixiLithos Fixed, the cube and notepad are now dumped to STDERR at the end of the program
:o who asked this? why'd they get deleted?

> user11
wow

Exactly!
The 11th user wouldn't be some abusive spammer or sockpuppet...
maybe @SIGSEGV ? I heard he was really high-rep until his account got nuked

6:44 PM
no, I believe his account is much newer

Yeah his account is much newer but he used to have a different account that got nuked because he was under 13

@Mendeleev do you use Ubuntu for your server
