Q: Code Golf Jeopardy

DanielI'm considering doing an original challenge that (at of right now) consists of golfed solutions in the languages C, Python, Jelly, Javascript, 05AB1E, Pyth, PHP, MATL. The challenge is to look at the golfed code and figure out what the intended challenge was. I think it could be a very interest...

09:32
Hi @TuxCopter, how's life?
fine
wat
I got a GH notification 3 hours ago because there was a commit in a repo
C student: "What if we think float might not have enough precision?" C teacher: "When you worry, you make it double"
Problem: The commit in question was commited one year ago and I didn't participated in the repo ಠ_ಠ
Maybe you starred it?
09:35
You followed the guy or watched the repo?
And even if I watched it I shouldn't receive notification for commits over 1 year ago
Maybe you are seeing it only now
I don't follow the user too
In my GH, I got tons on notifications from you
@KritixiLithos Why?

16 messages moved to Trash
@KritixiLithos Heh, compressing the results makes that quite fast.
@Dennis Which results are you referring to?
Never mind
So now permalinks are stored server-side?
Yes.
The permalink part of the URL does not exceed 5 characters, but every time I press on create a permalink, it generates a new one for me. tio.run/#tYpyN and tio.run/#ECAcf direct to the same code
12:29
Is the community icon based on Ubuntu logo? :D
Anonymous
Here's a suggestion: if your messages keep getting moved to Trash, maybe fill that room up with your nonsense instead of this one
That's what I'm doing right now :P
@betseg Not really; it's based on the revolving hearts Unicode glyph, which looked a bit too cuddly. But now that you say it, yeah, it does look similar.
@KritixiLithos Kindly stop saving the same file over and over again on the server. :P
Oh sorry.
No problem. Once authentication is implemented, you'll actually edit able to edit your permalink.
Just got one half of a bounty.
12:37
And what if all 916132832 permalinks ((26*2+10)^5) are used?
You should make a time to live for permalinks saved by anonymous users to prevent cluttering the fs
I don't want to force users to authenticate.
Unregistered users will still be able to edit permalinks with "cookies".
There can be a problem with a spammer that save a lot of permalinks to fill the server
@betseg I add a letter.
@TuxCopter The answer to this is IP blocking and rate limiting.
@Mego your latest edit undid the changes in the other two stages ;)

What about localStorage?
Hence the quotes in "cookies".
@Mego also not sure why you inserted that ?

Q: Post a crack to a cracked CNR submission

Stewie GriffinWhen answering a CNR challenge it's common to get the response: "Well done, but that was definitely not what I had in mind". I feel like it should be perfectly fine for anyone to post a second crack if OP says the intended solution was substantially different. The first crack is of course still...

@Dennis I can bork all connected TIO sessions by running rm -r /tmp/*

Make a new room for breaking TIO. Call it "Break It Online!" or something.
@arda What your esolang look like?
15:05
@TuxCopter C
@Dennis: Minor feature request: when you make another test case, copy the state of the last one. This is so users wouldn't have to repeatedly click "Input" to expand it on every case, for example.
It look like C?
It's not an esolang then
Find a letter that doesn't have a lang
Or Ç? Dunno
@betseg IIRC all the single letters have been taken.
Or Č
Ç
15:06
what am I C-ing?
@TuxCopter It's syntax is like C, but it's not that really similar to C
"C is the new Java"?
Java > C
15:09
Also it seems like keybase killed the line thingy, and you can register immediately now.
Call the esolang C_C
There is a lang called, well, the reverse C letter
what is this language C_C
@TuxCopter I'm not so sure that's the case. I only ever see exactly one file when running ls /tmp/.
Because there is only your program running

@El'endiaStarman My hero

Straight from the Chatiquette.
@El'endiaStarman wait seriously? :/
Wait why unicode have single characters equivalent of digraphs? Eg: DZ and DZ
15:16
@El'endiaStarman Pin the message. People will be more wary
Is it just my font or does this skull look like it has eyebrows: fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/2620/index.htm
@TuxCopter a letter from some languages
@KritixiLithos Nah, it's not bad enough or common enough to warrant a pin.
@betseg Even it these languages it's written as a digraph
@mınxomaτ It doesn't with my font
15:17
@mınxomaτ I think those are curves in the skull
@ConorO'Brien I know, but I can't un-see them as eyebrows.
@mınxomaτ Hah, that's funny. Those are the indentations in the temple area.

SAD SKULL AND CROSSBONES
@ConorO'Brien Seeing as how that message got five stars, it seems that several other people agree that face-only messages are irritating.
15:19

@Downgoat pls admin privs tf2 server

@arda call the lang Ɔ?
watiz the password @EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ
15:23
What about :Ɔ
Or call the language "!Ɔlass"
Then how do I connect D:
@TuxCopter No, you can't.
@betseg Might do. Me saying that it is like C was a mistake though, it just looks like generic code, but has some stuff similar to C.
15:25
@betseg That sorted itself out. While it can temporarily disrupt the service, it should not be able to bring it down.
@El'endiaStarman Do you mean the entire field (contents and everything) or just what is expanded and what not?
rm $(pwd) -rf && echo done
No output lol
@Dennis Just what's expanded.
++Ɔ
@betseg y u h8 tio?
15:28
@betseg That happens for any disallowed command.
@flawr why not ––Ɔ since we're reversing? :p
Try touch /tmp/abc.txt.
@El'endiaStarman debug is empty
@El'endiaStarman Sure, that's easy. Just have to clone the previous test case instead of the template. I don't even need a template in this case.
@betseg Oooh, didn't think to look at the debug output.
15:30
@betseg Well, that happens if you remove the file you are executing. You can only mess with your own process though. Each process has a different MCS range.
@El'endiaStarman Btw, once implemented, the paste wizard will allow you to simply copy the test cases of a question into a textarea, set a few parameters, and automatically create the fiddles.
@Dennis so, if someone else is running something and I execute rm /tmp/* -rf, other process won't die?
@Dennis Excellent.
@betseg You don't even have read access to other sandboxed processes, let alone write access.
15:43
@El'endiaStarman Excellent
15:58
@Fatalize Yeah, see how the most recent is from January 11?
I'm not saying those trashed messages were interesting or that you should kick yourself
@Fatalize That one's a response.
But being a bit less extreme might help
I'd like to think so. I posted that message after trashing two separate chains of faces within, what, 10 minutes? And two of the users involved in the second were also in the first, so they clearly didn't learn their lesson.
16:03
@El'endiaStarman Are you a mod on PPCG, or just a mod of this chatroom?
I'm not planning on carrying out my threat tomorrow or a week from now, just to be clear. I'd warn again at that time.
@KritixiLithos Mod on Christianity AFAIK
So he's a mod everywhere on chat
@Fatalize Right, but it becomes problematic when it's pure noise and disrupts acutal conversation. The messages that El'endia trashed earlier didn't carry any actual meaning or attempt to communicate anything, and there were 3-4 in 30 seconds. (Also, tu quoque.)
except SO
@Zacharee1 Correct. SO chat is a separate network.
16:05
@Doorknob That's true. I'm just saying that those messages being trash-worthy isn't a reason to start kicking anyone which posts a face
which is kind of what that starboard message says
Anonymous
Anonymous
I don't see a problem with kicking users who frequently fill this room with nonsense messages, especially when they've been warned (and even kicked) before.
Sure
That doesn't make "I will start kicking for posting faces with nothing else" more valid
"I will start kicking such and such user for posting nonsense messages again" would though
otherwise we should just kick pretty much everyone
Anonymous
The implication was there - sometimes you have to take context into account when reading messages
If you're just saying the starboard message could be worded more clearly, I somewhat agree. But it was a direct response to the face chains, so in context it makes sense. Only if you look at it out of context does it seem harsh.
16:09
I think I offended someone who posted this comment.
When you come to chat and the top starboard message is this I don't expect to read the entire transcript to get what it means
The starboard is all about taking things out of context
I remember when @Sock got banned for excessively using stealth-pings unnecessary. If that didn't happen, TNB would be full of spam.
I honestly wasn't expecting that message to get starred. It was just for the users involved at the time.
@BlueEyedBeast huh
16:10
Well, back to ye olde abusing stars problem. Can't escape that one it seems :p
@BlueEyedBeast says something about them...
If there were going to be a pinned message about this, someone would sit down and carefully word it. As it's just a remark that happened to get starred, it was never intended to be unambiguous out of context.
what if a mod just removes the stars?
Anonymous
@Fatalize No, but you could read the few messages around the starred message. It's not that much effort, but if you're not willing to expend that little bit of effort to understand a message, that's your problem.
I will never spam ever again
16:13
@Zacharee1 I considered doing that myself, but at the same time, it's getting support I didn't know existed.
(In any case I think there is slight favoritism in this chat room. E.G. Downgoat (nothing against you) very often posts unrelated things about goats and whatnot and uses intentionaly awful spelling, but doesn't seem to get "punished" nearly as hard as other less "known" users who do the same)
Because Downgoat is literally a meme
@El'endiaStarman what about modediting it so it is more carefuly worded, like @trichoplax said?
I don't see a reason to remove the stars. New users should be able to see from looking at the starboard that it isn't a collection of policies
@Fatalize I've seriously considered kicking for the (over)use of gaot and such. I haven't made up my mind yet, though.
16:15
@Zacharee1 I wasn't suggesting that, since it isn't an "official" pinned message
@trichoplax 8 stars – might as well be ;p
"gaot" chatter should go to Trash, where nobody cares what you say
The stars are for the current wording, so I wouldn't want it changed
@Zacharee1 I can get 8 stars from a bad pun. 8 stars is nothing ;)
19
@Zacharee1 Pinned means "a room owner put this at the top of the starboard". Lots of stars means "members of the community have starred this".
16:16
@Geobits Nice star-bait!
Anonymous
@Fatalize He actually contributes though (as opposed to the users who will just faceroll on their keyboards all day), and I'm not sure just how much of his awful spelling is intentional - hooves and keyboards don't play well :P
Anonymous
Slightly unintelligible messages > completely nonsensical messages
I'm pretty sure Downgoat would still be a prolific and useful contributor even if we clamped down on the spelling (at least the deliberate parts)
@Sock It's not quite at 8 yet, but hopefully nobody pushes it to 9 :P
Anonymous
Chronic bad spelling should not be a reason for disciplinary action. Ever.
Anonymous
16:18
Otherwise I'd have to pass a breathalyzer test to chat
I definitely agree for accidental poor spelling. It's only obfuscation that gets wearing
Anonymous
But it's hard to tell the intention
@Geobits 8 stars
-.-
@Fatalize I have felt uneasy about that too. Sometimes I see an "older" user (in the sense of how long they've been here) posting messages that might've gotten trashed were they posted by a newer user. I've been making a conscious effort to equalize my perceptions towards both new and old users, while keeping in mind that prior behavior must also be considered.
@TuxCopter I guess that just proves the point :D
16:20
@Mego Where I don't know, I'll give the benefit of the doubt. I'm not suggesting a sudden spate of kicks for poor spelling :)
Nov 12 '15 at 22:26, by Doorknob
okay seriously stop abusing stars
^has 97 stars
Anonymous
It's a difficult line to walk. On the one hand, a new user who immediately starts spewing nonsense all over the chatroom means that their messages have been all noise and no signal, which could be worthy of discipline in my eyes (depending on the exact circumstances). An older user would (hopefully) have a better signal:noise ratio. On the other hand, the older user should know better, and the newer user might just need a gentle nudge in the right direction.
If we had to kick Downgoat everytime he used "of" instead of "have", he would never be able to contribute :p
That's almost as bad as using everytime as a single word ;)

@El'endiaStarman Am I missing something? Why didn't that italicize?

Maybe I should go back and edit that message so it's not so harsh-seeming.
@Mego I escaped the first asterisk.
Anonymous
Oh
Anonymous
That would do it
@Mego *it's easy with \*
@El'endiaStarman Or just post a less harsh one now and see which one gets more stars...
Aww, who put the 9th star on that? Way to ruin a perfect post :/
Anonymous
16:25
@El'endiaStarman The wording I would use is "I will start kicking for repeatedly posting entirely nonsensical messages"
@Mego Would still have to make sense in context.
@Geobits You mean you didn't screen capture...?
@Geobits I gave you your 9th star. But now you have 10
Maybe "I will start kicking for posting nothing but faces."?
@trichoplax Not this time, no :(
16:26
I'll remove mine - oh no too late
All I can do is cancel all of them, which won't help unless you have 8 volunteers on hand
@trichoplax Perhaps Geobits could summon his octo-sock.
I guess it's okay. I mean, I'd like to see it sit at 8 or get to 100 just because, but neither seems very likely.
@Geobits I just realized that my post contained it... now I feel dumb
@Fatalize Nah. Most of us aren't robots :)
@Geobits Lies!
16:28
Yes we are all definitely humans and not robots, no sir.
I didn't say none of us are robots.

@trichoplax No, just a single tone that descends at higher frequencies
