@arda Big, yet small. Everybody's approachable. Nobody's a youtube-comment grade idiot.

unless you post a duplicate question. then you take a beating
:)

@El'endiaStarman My fav quote from this video at 20:10

@TuxCopter pls halp, r u there?

Yep

Pls halp, i install windows but how to bash

8:13 PM
Install MinGW and Git bash or install WSL
And why are you using Windows???

@Downgoat you can't bash on windows. Bash is unix.
There's an indev superalpha official microsoft version, but as I said, it's superalpha.

@TuxCopter ;_; because new macbook is crap

I seriously don't know why this was downvoted:

;_; windows doens't even have alt+arrow keys

@Downgoat Use Linux

8:15 PM
^^^

Seriously, if you just installed it use Linux

@TuxCopter linux is ugly ew

Linux > Windows
@Downgoat ubuntu, or get the windows theme

yea but linux doesn't have 99% of apps

Linux is way better than Windows for programming

8:15 PM
nobody develops app for linux
linux is for hacker. i am gaot who just likes ches

@Downgoat Development on Windows = absolute hell

@Downgoat you can install the ubuntu subsystem on windows
Official microsoft

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC ;_;
ik

It require a fuckin lot of config and weird programs to do anything on Windows

8:16 PM
^

^^
but like 0.1% of world use linux

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC more like relative hell

hm... can i install mac on PC

@Downgoat Not officially

8:17 PM
You need Hackintosh, which is not official nor legal o_O

@Downgoat Yes, illegally.

yet another person got rickrolled whilst reading the transcript

no, like you need to have specific system requirment IIRC

Yes, you need an Apple hardware

;_; windows is being super slow too compared to mac
this was bad idea
maybe i should just ditch programming

8:19 PM
@Downgoat Use Linux
Seriously

@Downgoat hackintosh works on a variety of pcs

Hackintosh is not legal

yeah, but A) linux UI is not very goat-friendly B) Verrrryyyy little support for most popular applications C) I have to do weird hack to do basic tasks which would be easy on windows or mac
i have try linux

I honestly can't name a single application I'm missing on Linux

Windows = slow, bloated,proprieatary (this word is too complex), need bad hacks for programming

8:21 PM
I'm curious what you're missing

@TuxCopter i agree words are complex

Also what DE did you try?

Mac = proprieatary linux

@quartata itunes

Linux = +1

8:22 PM
microsoft word
microsoft power point

@Downgoat What specifically about iTunes are you missing?

@Downgoat LibreOffice

microsoft excel
etc.

Mac = proprietary BSD

@quartata apple music

8:22 PM
@Downgoat LibreOffice

Use VLC or soundcloud

@TuxCopter that is uck

Banshee should be able to play anything you bought from the store. And I run the 32-bit verison of iTunes perfectly under Wine.

@Downgoat ಠ_ಠ

@Downgoat LibreOffice and OpenOffice are almost carbon clones of Word.
At least of the versions of Word I've used

8:23 PM
@quartata yeah so either way, linux or windows you gotta use weird software hack

@Downgoat Banshee isn't a software hack...?

But Windows is slower than Linux

libre/openoffce are like word 2003 version in term of UI/capabilty
@quartata I'm talking about wine

@Downgoat wtf

You don't need to do that, I was just commenting you can if you miss it that badly.

8:24 PM
even if i do through wine, it'll probably be slow

If you want a windows-like desktop, KDE

My current machine is running archlinux with Windows 10 in KVM with SeamlessRDP. That's basically like OS X with Parallels, but better.
2
No need for wine at all

@Downgoat I can't name any style restriction I've encountered that LibreOffice can't do.
And I've had some fairly weird shit thrown at me.

I'm using ubuntu mainly

@quartata can i do rainbow wordart ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

8:25 PM
why on the earth would you need that

so i can write my name on "about me" poster

@Downgoat Rainbow colored text? Yes.
Not sure why you'd want that but.

but does it have like the 3D wave-y thing

I can do everything I used to do on windows on linux: Unity, steam, csgo, ssh, openvpn, filezilla, vscode, monodevelop, deluge, calibre, spotify, gimp and firefox runs well on ubuntu, and I rarely even boot to windows.

oh: is there photoshop/adobe illustrator for linux?

8:27 PM
@mınxomaτ is it slow?

@Downgoat gimp

hahahaha

Is what slow now?

sure

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC wine? yeah, kinda.

8:28 PM
@arda no, I was asking about minxomat's vm

Ah

does linux have hidpi support?

There's also Inkscape for vector drawing.

@arda Yeah, sorry, but I have to disagree, too. GIMP is absolutely nothing like Photoshop. You can replace Illustrator with Inkscape, though.

@Downgoat yes

8:28 PM
:O

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC No. It's KVM
It's basically native performance.

X can basically do anything.

:/ no popular photo library app seem to use linux
i have to be able to like do thing with rest of world too :P

@mınxomaτ well, yeah. I didn't heavily use Photoshop and I can do anything I used to use on photoshop on gimp, but I agree that there are some features that are missing if you are a photoshop poweruser.

@mınxomaτ link?

8:30 PM
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC ??

@Downgoat Shotwell

@mınxomaτ Link to KVM project site, please.

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC What's you linux distro?

@Downgoat bruh GIMP is the bomb

also, hardware compatiblity. like will my graphics card be as good on linux as on like windows where there is fancy NVIDia app

8:31 PM
@mınxomaτ I use ubuntu; what are my options for KVM solutions?

Yes. NVidia has very good Linux drivers.

@Downgoat I get similar performance on CS:GO, but tbh source is a well optimized engine.

@mınxomaτ Main project site, I'm not running linux.
nvm, google gets me it

Simply install qemu-kvm package

That seems awesome.

8:33 PM
@mınxomaτ me?

idk, linux GUI seems to be lacking. I mean developer are not designer and linux was made by dev

@Downgoat windows theme

Available on BSD and Mac OS X too, KVM.

8:34 PM
@mınxomaτ can I do something like, I currently have windows on another partition on my SSD. Can I boot to that through KVM, or do I need to do I separate installation?

there are also like 100 different linux version and like idk about compatibilty between all

@Downgoat pretty good...

@Downgoat There are like 5 linux versions. Linux distros is something different :P
@arda Give me a second.

compait between Windows <-> rest of world = horrible

@mınxomaτ ooh this seems nice. I might install this on my old PC.

8:37 PM
anyway, lack of popualar apps is dealbreaker with linux. i dont want to have to install some weird open-source application to do basic task

what does photoshop have that gimp doesn't? (I don't have PS)

That would be a very, very long list

@Downgoat KVM.
@muddyfish uh... everything

like what?

@muddyfish this is like comparing microsoft word and notepad :P

8:42 PM
cause I don't know what Im missing

@Downgoat Linux "UI" is based on what desktop environment you're using

elementaryOS has a two part blog series on switching from OS X

There are a lot and you probably should not judge them all based on one; which one did you try?

ubuntu

Yeah Unity is shit.

8:44 PM
@Downgoat Microsoft Word vs LibreOffice is probably more accurate.

@El'endiaStarman No it isn't

Or MS Word vs Google Docs.

> We’ve been getting a ton of traffic at elementary.io and hearing a lot of chatter from Apple users after the underwhelming MacBook Pro event last week
>_<

@quartata Kinda.
It is usable and tbh I'm liking it, but it has a tough learning curve.

If you can replace PS with GIMP, you never needed PS in the first place. There is a reason that you need a few years to master Photoshop and it's surrounding tools. If you are not a professional, you don't need Photoshop. Stick with GIMP.

8:48 PM
@mınxomaτ As far as my experience goes, I could say the same of MS Word vs LibreOffice Writer or Google Docs.

when yuor projext is more makefile than code .____.

@Downgoat Try Pantheon or Xfce4
You'll probably prefer the former since you seem to be an eye candy person

@quartata nah, I'm more of the tin cans person :P

Does anyone know if there is a proof for the infinitude of the XOR primes?

8:57 PM
Question: is there equivilent of spotlight

@WheatWizard Perhaps you could try constructing a proof-by-contradiction like Euclid's?

@Downgoat Yes. synapse-indicator

ಠ_ಠ why does (almost) everything linux hate padding

@El'endiaStarman I think I will I thought perhaps I would just see if there already was one
I could have used some commas in that sentence

Nah, just a period after "will".

9:07 PM
Question: what should the extension be for a compiled cheddar file?
I was thinking .cdr

.ccheddar
or .ccr

I like .cdr too.

.cdr is already the extension of cheddar files AFAIK

Yeah cdr is nice
.🧀

9:17 PM
@TuxCopter they used to be but i switched to .cheddar

ok

:O I have idea
I sohuld write cheddar cli
in cheddar
:OOOOOO

@Downgoat Several. It depends on what DE you're using.
@Downgoat ?

@Downgoat good luck.

thx
shouldn't be too hard tbh
question: what should flag to specify file encoding be?

9:24 PM
wtf th9is does nto work

Sandbox

Where you can play with chat features (except flagging) and ch...

tbh I can't really open any more browser tabs
i have way too many pinned

okay then open new window

no not that
ram
i only have 4gb

why do you avhe to open sandbox in new tab?

9:27 PM
@DmitryKudriavtsev get The Great Suspender extension. It suspends unused tabs, very helpful; saves memoru

@nohtypyzarc I have it. It's too annoying when it's actually being used because I often open tabs to save a page for later, and when I actually need it I open it and it takes 2 mins to open on my craptop and I get angry

I simply start culling tabs when I can't see the icons anymore.

Q: Generate a Markdown Template for your Post

Challenger5Your task is simple: Write a program (or function) that takes no input and outputs something like this: ## *name*, *length* bytes *code* Where *name* is the name of the language you are using, *length* is the number of bytes in your code, and *code* is your program's source code. If *code*...

that do nothing
its cmd+r

@quartata Look here and here. But we also have a couple of customers that don't let us speak about them, for fear of their competitors picking up on the reason for their success... While I may not reveal details, one of them is listed here.

Q: Solve the Laplace equation

Karl NapfIntroduction to Numerical Mathematics This is the "Hello, World!" of PDEs (Partial Differential Equations). The Laplace or Diffusion Equation appears often in Physics, for example Heat Equation, Deforming, Fluid Dynamics, etc... As real life is 3D but we want to say "Hello, World!" and not sing ...

I'd recommend to friends but our customs is hell, and there is no way they'd let a computer pass the borders.

11:30 PM
@PhiNotPi I know how you feel. I entered into that field with the same idea. And I did manage to contribute something, I think. When I have time to sit down and write the paper I can send you a link if interested. I think Bernoulli factories have not been much explored. Probably there are more things to do in that field. What areas of maths / statistics are you interested in, in general?

@arda What country?

Turkey.

@arda Hah, Arda, of course :-)

That makes a ton of sense. Didn't they block Facebook, Reddit, and Youtube there?
I know VPNs exist but still

vpns and tor is also blocked lol

11:32 PM
wat
they did that
can you SSH?

Well, at least the popular VPNs. Mine is still fine.
I can ssh, and connect to my own openvpn server.

@PhiNotPi In my opinion, this is a very interesting problem. It would help extend the sufficient conditions in Proposition 3 and Theorem 3 here.

If the next two digits together are 25 or smaller, encode those tw...
