does anyone here use atom?
yeah
what do golden folders mean
@Upgoat where are the functions that need to be implemented?
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ golden folders?
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ in this spreadsheet
i have no idea
00:07
IIRC green is added but not staged, gold is staged but not committed
could you fix the string thing so I can work on it? e.g. move the slice to it's own lib
(slack isn't working for me)
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ D: oh
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ just delete slice, it's broken I guess
>_>
.upper gives hte uppercase string, .upper() changes it to uppercase
no
all methods should be immutable
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ interestng idea but it can only be either a string or function
Today, I watched some South Park episodes, which I don't typically do. It's an... interesting... show.
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ will bork the cheese
@PhiNotPi that's one word for it
@PhiNotPi every park for me is south park
00:38
@Upgoat Does it modify the original string or return a new one?
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan conor thought to put an @ to the beginning for it to modify the string which is what were porbbaly gonna do
so @a.upper or @.upper() for mutable
Well, a.upper feels like accessing an element, and a.upper() feels like doing something.
I feel like that too
a.upper or @a.upper should not have any side effects.
Other than that, I don't really care all that much.
00:50
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan so you're saying @a.upper shouldn't modify
That is correct.
If it doesn't have parenthesis after it, it should only return something, never change something.
but @ operator makes it change something
It's not the @ that's a problem.
It's the lack of parens. IMO
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ This is way too close to what happened in House of Cards.
01:11
New Rider Insider build: Linux, Windows, OS X
@mınxomaτ you use IDE?
#nvimmasterrace
Yeah, this is more about the built-in Resharper.
Why not both? #vsvimmasterrace
Aww... ;-;
That's sad
Any particular reason why?
01:20
^
might be because of the learning curve
I dind't like vim at first either >_>
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan My main intent is editing content, not magic.
s/gic/jik/
._.
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Editing is exactly what it's good at! Your string is wrong? ci". boom.
01:29
define wrong
You need to change it.
I am still confused
before: "foobar", after: "hello world"
Regular editor: <cursor keys a bunch of times><backspace a bunch of time>hello world
vim: ci"hello world
But hey, I don't want to be preachy. To each his own.
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan Regular editor: SHIFT-POS1, hello world.
01:33
Yeah, that's a key.
On what keyboard?
Called "home" on your kb probably.
If you just want to replace one word, e.g. "hello foobar" to "hello word", place cursor behind "foobar" and just do CTRL-SHIFT-LEFT, type "world".
But then you have to use cursor keys or mouse to actually move to foobar. Then CTRL-SHIFT-LEFT, then move your hands back to the homerow, then type it.
ci" doesn't leave the homerow and it works from any cursor position.
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan wait wat, why isn't it cb?
I didn't say it was easier. Just what you posted for "regular editor" was needlessly complicated.
01:39
@Upgoat Depends on where your cursor is.
ah ok gotcha
I just heard a disturbing rumor.
Well, I don't know how true it is, but here goes:
Basically, this meta post was brought up earlier in the Tavern. It caused the staff to realize our graduation was a mistake/oversight, and they're going to take it back.
wtf
01:50
Yea

To be more convincing, mention a date for our ungraduation. November 1st should work.
@Mego I was going to go into that, but Irky ruined it.
:P
I couldn't let @Upgoat continue to fall for that.

Very shocking
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Wat? no

Anybody know of a torrent for the tor browser?
e.g. a download for the installer file
01:58
Why would you torrent it? It's tiny.
iirc
why do you need tor
i can't access the tor website
@Upgoat to get around website blocking

How the heck is imgur blocked?
lol, you're going to tor at school just for imgur?

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan I couldn't see that image, but I was able to see it with tor (installed by brew install tor).
brew ftw
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ why dont you just ask your parental unit to unblock
02:03
she uninstalled tor from my computer
i doubt she will
> 404. That’s an error.
oh I thought 404 was a goat
Reinstalling tor is a great way to show her you're responsible enough to have it >_>

I should write a challenge tonight
Are you still high on meds?
Anonymous
A bit
Anonymous
My next dose is coming up
Good time for a challenge then. Go for it.
After the next dose, clearly.
Anonymous
02:30
I need inspiration, though
Oh. I thought that's what the meds were for.
0/10 tor is borked again
Anonymous
Well they help :P
Anonymous
But I still need that trigger for the inspiration
Anonymous
I really wish this challenge got more attention: codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/75158/generate-ascii-art
02:31
Watch Primer. It should be good for a trigger or two.
Anonymous
I might bounty it
Anonymous
Bounty is up - go nuts :P
@Geobits Oh Primer is awesome.
I only know of Primer because of xkcd. :P
02:55
@Mego "raw bytes" = the bytes of a file format or the raw pixel array?
03:11
@El'endiaStarman is Pytek JIT or AOT?
@Upgoat AOT, but would be JIT if run with PyPy, I believe.
...though I'm not sure it really fits into either of those categories.
how does it work? Does it compile and then interpreter. Or compile while interpreting?
Anonymous
@Liam In reference to what?
Anonymous
Oh that challenge
Anonymous
Raw bytes of the file
Anonymous
03:26
Though raw pixel data is allowable by default
@Mego I think it's the same with the Jordan Decomposition challenge. I want to answer it but I don't want to try making the solver and diagonalization parts
03:44
That feeling when the brainfuck solution is 60% shorter than your Python answer...
:D I'm surprised nobody'd posted that already, tbh
@Upgoat Please correct the grammar in the very first question. It looks kinda like a phishing attempt right now.
Less than 6 bytes of entropy...
@Geobits ah, whoops fixed
Umm, wat?
> Your response may or may of not been recorded whether or not is was actually serious
This makes less sense than usual.
03:53
@Geobits that means if your submission was BS it will of not been recorded (like yours for example)
Mine wasn't BS. How is it not useful?
Anonymous
@miles To me, that says "I want to answer it but I don't want to have to put in the effort of writing a solution", which is the opposite of helpful feedback. Is that what you meant to convey?
@Geobits because it's obviously supposed to go in the StringCheese library, not the String library
@Mego "It's interesting, but too much work and not enough fun" sounds like good feedback to me, if you take it that way.
@Upgoat You didn't present that as an option, so I can hardly be blamed.
@Geobits :/ well you could of selected the "other" option and typed it in
Anonymous
03:56
@Geobits Not every challenge is going to be "read through it and start implementing the obvious solution". Having challenges with more difficulty is a good thing. It's a shame that apparently our users don't have the attention spans to write solutions to hard challenges.
@Mego I didn't say it's great, just that it can be useful feedback.
@Upgoat 404 "Other" option not found:
wat
your computer is borked
Uh.... no?
@Geobits reload
Anonymous
@Geobits The feedback I'm getting from that is "don't make hard challenges because nobody will answer them".
03:58
@Mego well that's generally very true
@bkul Yes, I'm guessing he changed it after I submitted. Again, hard to blame me for that :P
@Geobits Agreed. Just tryin' to help
@Geobits idk what your talking about
Anonymous
@Upgoat I consider that a problem with the users, rather than the challenge
