@Doorknob You should use rust-lang/rust.vim instead of wting
@AlexA. oh, thanks
:D
I actually use it
"ar ar slan" sounds like a pirate
21:02
@AlexA. whats it do?
@Fatalize Yeah... It's definitely not obvious that it should be A. R. Arslan. -.-
You should marry and change your name like Martin to solve that
^ good advice
Then I'd be Alex Bell, the guy who invented the telephone.
^ that doesn't ring that good
21:04
HAH HAH HAH. ಠ_ಠ
sorry
:(
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ you should start a TF2 website bloggy thingy with the TLD .tf. :P
@Fatalize All will be forgiven in time, my brother.
you know that guy who changed his name to Heywood?
Was his last name Jablome?
21:07
no, but he also changed it to that ^
Wait, for real?
is that supposed to be a pun?
"Stands for "Hey, would ya blow me?"" oh ok
""
You I had unmatched quotes
Not anymore
Also not anymore
21:09
@AlexA. hmm, maybe not really real, snopes.com/media/goofs/heywood.asp
(also, this is a dead giveaway that you are doing CS)
@AlexA. it looks like arse-land at 3am, just fyi. >_>
@aditsu Holy crap, I even got the spelling right O_O
> officers escorted Heywood Jablome away after he held up a sign directly in front of Burk that read "Make me dinner" before shouting "Oprah rules."
What
21:11
(this one says Jablowme)
46 secs ago, by Alex A.
What
@Fatalize When am I doing CS? I've only ever taken one CS class and I dropped out in the first week so I didn't have to pay the tuition for it.
Sign up, download course materials, "alright see ya"
@AlexA. There's not word in English for CS as a very general thing
Well, computer science itself is a very general thing
> dropped out in the first week so I didn't have to pay the tuition for it.
Cool technique.
Why thank you (⌐■_■)
21:14
@Fatalize Quotes in quotes aren't even clear. You could have been quoting "Stands for " and the empty string.
> paying tuition
hahahah... sorry
Do you not pay tuition in France?
mine was about 700€ per year, if your family has low income it's less
and in universities it's more around 300€
WHAT
@AlexA. welcome to the rest of 1st world countries
21:16
@Fatalize I pay over 3 times that much every semester for my master's program ;-;
47
Q: Is education in Europe really this cheap?

Jack BauerIs tuition in Europe really US$300 or €200 a year? That is one tenth the cost of the tuition in the developing country university where I took my bachelor's and master's. Is it really true that some developed country universities charge that much to non-scholars? Why? I heard of universities lik...

@PhiNotPi Hey want to move to France with me?
@AlexA. now I do
in ENS and polytechnique, students are even paid as State employees to study
those schools are really selective though
Let's just relocate all of PPCG to France
@Fatalize In graduate programs in the US, students who are able to get a stipend for being a teaching or research assistant (not all of them get that opportunity) get an income that puts them below the federal poverty line
@PhiNotPi s/the rest of //
@AlexA. You're not paid for a Ph.D. if you don't teach?
@aditsu rekt
21:19
lol
here it's mandatory for science Ph.Ds
∏_∏
not social science and litterature, cause nobody wants to fund it
@Alex I pay €105 per year.
@Fatalize can I come bunk with you for like the next 6 years >_>
21:20
@Maltysen I live in an 18m² room, so no
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Good god
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ oh wow that is awwwwsome :)
@Fatalize That's enough for multiple code golfers to live comfortably. We just golf our living space.
21:21
the only way it could be better is if it was Nissin cup noodles
@Fatalize no prob, guess I'll just go and roost on the eiffel tower
@aditsu and its on sale
@Lynn I don't even
21:22
@Fatalize I live in a 24m cubed room. The extra dimension makes all the difference...
@AlexA. Idk, they have more guillotines and frog legs :s
@trichoplax I don't want to see your energy consumption to heat this
@HelkaHomba Guillotines have stopped being used in the 70s when death penalty was abolished though
And they got replaced with frog legs? ;P
@Fatalize do you have poptart
> \vim/
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ popwhat?
21:25
ftfy
@Fatalize ._.
@HelkaHomba Never eaten one, but apparently it's pretty close to chicken
@Fatalize Nyan cat bodies
Can't be more disgusting than Hershey's I'd say
Watermelon?
21:26
WATERMELON POPTARTS!?
wtf this looks like plastic
Pop tarts sound gross.
@Maltysen yes
they are life
I hear they taste like candles.
21:26
When I was a kid they had strawberry and cinnamon and that was it
@Fatalize not the actual image
@Lynn no
they taste amazing
@Lynn No, they taste like sugar with a candle coating
had one for lunch
@Fatalize regarding the price of education... I'm lucky enough to have enough scholarship money (>11k per semester) to pay tuition + room & board.
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ have you ever had shower poptarts?
eating poptart while showering?
@PhiNotPi 11k per semester scholarship? Damn that's a lot of scholarship
it gets all soggy and its pretty awesome
iirc that is not what shower poptart means
you should try it
21:27
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Pro tip: You should probably have something more sustaining than a Pop-Tart for lunch. It'll spike your blood sugar so you'll feel less hungry, but it doesn't provide any actual nutrition.
Just sayin'
@AlexA. oh I also had a avocado and slice of pizza
should probably eat a second poptart
@Maltysen ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ That's a really bizarre lunch
@Maltysen Gross
@Fatalize I did. The packages contain like 6 bags of 2 tarts each.
@AlexA. I am bizzare. Why else would I be in this chat?
21:29
wtf is that flavor
Oh come on, that's heinous
↑ Who???
I would say maple bacon flavor?
@Fatalize half of it is from my state (general scholarship based on high school performance), half of it is from my university (as a result of the National Merit Scholarship program).
Why would you be Belgian and want to buy Pop Tarts
@Lynn Yeah, you could have Belgian waffles
The National Merit thing is the dumbest way to hand out money.
Exactly
@PhiNotPi #jealousy
I was extremely fortunate that my parents started saving money to put me through college when I was born. I only spent two years in university (two were taxpayer funded years at a community college) so their funds plus help from my grandparents paid the tuition, and I was working the whole time so I could pay for food, housing, etc. I made it out without debt, which I think is really uncommon anymore.
Delete college sport teams, save a crapload of money
21:33
Would if I could
@Fatalize college sports are a business at this point
America is currently undergoing a demographic wealth distribution crisis (and I'm not talking about the 1% thing). As in, if you compare the net worth of different generations, a 25-year-old today has less "real value" than a 25-year-old had last decade.
TIL my sister is worth more than me ;-;
TIL Alex has a sister ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
ಠ_ಠ
So here's me happily playing with the Stack Exchange data dump, doing some queries on who gives the most bounties over a few sites. Apparently, Jeff Atwood himself has awarded 1.2k bounties to people on Open Source, and I didn't even know he had an account.
21:40
TIL I have an account on Law.SE and have awarded 150 bounties
...until, of course, I realise that I forgot how to schema, and I've been querying from the wrong part of a table.
Turns out it's actually Martijn. Not Pieters.
lel do u even sql bro
sudden sadness that Jeff doesn't care about my site
Jeff doesn't care about SE at all anymore. That's why he left. He's like a dad who left to buy cigarettes and hasn't come back for 7 years.
^ speaking from experience? ;_;
21:43
No, ma daddy's at home wif ma mommy and ma doggy
@ArtOfCode FWITW I care, but there is nothing I can do there. Q_Q
Wait, it's Friday. My parents are probably both at work.
Now that I've fixed my SQL, turns out you lot award a lot of bounties
@AlexA. oh, so he came back on the eighth year. ;P
21:44
@Maltysen -.-
@ArtOfCode We have to because people keep posting challlenges that are hard as shit so no one answers them.
@AlexA. did someone say hard challenge?
Yes, I just did
@ArtOfCode I'm missing.
Who receives them?
@Dennis award moar bounty
21:46
I have awarded 1,000.
Now, is this number of bounties or reputation worth of bounties?
@Dennis before or after March 10?
@AlexA. rep worth
Oh, that makes more sense
I should be on there too I think then
21:47
7,400 bounties seems like a lot. :P
@ArtOfCode After.
@AlexA. what kind of bird is she?
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Haha yeah, that's what I was thinking.
@Dennis that's it then, those stats are from March 10
cuz that's when they last updated the dump
21:48
@aditsu A chick
@AlexA. probably same thing, March 10 stats
@ArtOfCode I haven't awarded a bounty in the last few months
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Thank you for your appreciation of my puns
it is June
that's just what I got out of queries...
21:50
Oh, I'm an idiot. I've only awarded 150 rep in bounties, not 1000.
@ArtOfCode who is xfix?!
@aditsu shrug
@AlexA. yeah, 150 is what comes back if I query for your stats
I overestimated my own generosity >_>
21:51
well, that guy is impressive
having the dump is actually pretty interesting, you can query for a lot of stuff
A lot of people here are really impressive
Also I've re-done it so that you can actually do cross-site queries
It's a really neat community that way :)
I think I gave about... takes out calculator and taps feverishly ... 0 rep in bounties
21:52
Turns out the tapping was just to type 80085
giggle
I guess I'm too much of a hoarder
IMO everyone else is impressive and I’m the impostor.
^ that's impressive that you're the only non-impressive person here
therefore there cannot be a non-impressive person here
Q.E.D.
This is why France pays you to get a PhD
21:56
#worthit
France doesn't directly pay me though
a company does, but they get subventions from the State to finance research
On this note, I'm off to bed
night
The whole state sponsorship thing reminds me... one time I got to go to some kind of week-long camp held at my high school to promote their new Chinese language program. Why was it free? Because it was sponsored by the NSA.
you mean NASA right? oh
@Fatalize o/
22:01
@Fatalize night!
@PhiNotPi 1. You speak Chinese? Cool. 2. Haha
@AlexA. No, I never followed through and did the language program.
why would the NSA sponsor that though? o_O training spies?
Not exactly, but intelligence work
Not bad
@flawr ._.
My friend asked her little brother, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" "Donald Trump!" "Why??" "Because I want attention!"
22:32
That was easy
I can't sing and I'd rather not die

Q: N-uniquely additive sets

Cᴏɴᴏʀ O'BʀɪᴇɴRemember that a set is unordered without duplicates. Definition An N-uniquely additive set S whose length is K is a set such that all N-length subsets in S sum to different numbers. In other words, the sums of all the N-length subsets of S are all distinct. Objective Given an array/set as input...

@HelkaHomba Learn foreign language = Learn Jelly? :P
Well, one should probably start with a regular sport before taking on an extreme sport.
@Upgoat no
@mınxomaτ Sure but some people here may already play normal sports. (Well... in theory.)
I definitely do more than code all day /s
22:37
@AlexA. ಠ_ಠ vim is already great
@flawr TOO MUCH PLANE CRASH
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ s/\/s//
what about play tf2? :P
Turns out correlation really does imply causation >_>

22:41
@flawr D:
> Number people who drowned while in a swimming pool correlates with Power generated by US nuclear power plants
I finally found a decent argument for copyrighting art: It lowers the slipping fatality rate of NY females: tylervigen.com/view_correlation?id=1388
DOE you know what to do
Also, here's a very good reason not to buy an iPhone: tylervigen.com/view_correlation?id=28669
That... actually could be something real
@quartata Oh, good point. New PSA: Stop looking at your phone while going down stairs.
PSA! PSA means Please Stand Away, so PSA for each PSA
Partially Sensible Acronym

Q: Swap bits with their neighbours

LynnTask description Given an integer, swap its (2k–1)-th and 2k-th least significant bits for all integers k > 0. This is sequence A057300 in the OEIS. This is code-golf, so the shortest code (in bytes) wins.

22:54
@quartata I have [:*//:~=] for checking if a list is sorted in J. Do you think this is optimal?
Huh, I must've somehow missed Lynn changing avatars.
Hello~
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ think there's something shorter one second
