Guys, I was thinking of making a JS golfing language that is meant to be readable.
The aliases could be more than one char.
EX: indexOf => iO
and toLowerCase=>tLC

Maybe. How about a esolang like that, but with the prefix 'i' before everything?
i.e. split-> iSplit
toLower->iLower.

12:50 AM
lol and call it AppleJScript

print->iPrint
@ןnɟuɐɯɹɐןoɯ Yes, Exactly what I was thinking.

We have a new hot esolang on our hands!

Yay!!!

Actually, that would be quite easy to make, now that I think about it.

Working on it right now with python as a prototype.
Dibs on creator rights. :P
(we can share)

12:53 AM
Array.prototype.iO=function(a){return this.indexOf(a);}

Here's an idea for AppleJScript aliasing in ES6: [String,Array,Number,Object,RegExp,Date,Function].map(v=>Object.getOwnPropertyN‌ames(v).map((x,y)=>v.prototype[x.replace(/^./g,x=>"i"+x.toUpperCase())]=v.prototy‌pe[x]))

Great idea.

Usage would be like iCharCodeAt and stuff like that.

Maybe move to the esolang chatroom?

12:56 AM
Link anybody? can't find it.

 Esoteric Programming Languages

@ןnɟuɐɯɹɐןoɯ what happened to the one byte encoding?

@ThomasKwa I haven't worked on it much. Language changes way too fast for my code page to keep up.
I've been expecting the lang to stabilize for awhile now :P

be like Jelly was and have an automatic encoding.

@ThomasKwa How?

1:02 AM
it's better to have a short language now than a short one in six months
Make a list of characters

Yeah, I'll see what I can do. Most of the chars used are in the official char palette at the interpreter, so...

and have a flag to interpret code in "scoring mode"; that is, translating byte values to the characters you use.
Look at the old revisions of the Jelly interpreter; it's pretty simple.

This revision or any previous one.
Jelly simply gathered all characters that corresponded to instructions in a string and appended them to the ASCII characters.

Okay.
So I can also specify 2-byte chars, right?
(On the same code page)
(or whatever I'm doing)

You can put whatever you want in your code page. Does ESMin use more than 256 characters?

1:06 AM
Yeah, way more.
The number aliases themselves are 256 chars total.
The function aliases are probably way more.

Uh, okay.

Hehe.
Sticky situation.

Then you'll need to set aside a few surrogates, like UTF-16 does.
Pretty much everything will be better than UTF-8 though.

\u{xxxx}

Yeah, that's true.

1:08 AM
Do you use the ASCII characters for anything?

Inside strings and stuff like that.
Brackets, parens, etc.
@ ends a for loop.

I kept only the printable ASCII characters and newlines for Jelly's code page.

That's what I'm planning on doing.
I think that's what I did the last time I made a code page.

If you set aside 64 characters as surrogates, you can encode up to 16,384 characters in two bytes. With 96 ASCII characters, that leaves another 96 non-ASCII characters you can encode in one byte.

Surrogates, meaning...?

1:12 AM
For example, \xff would not correspond to a character, but \xff\xXY would encode 256 different characters, depending on the values of X and Y.

Oh, okay.
So that would basically become 2 bytes.
Right?

Yes. With more than 256 characters, some will have to.
How many different characters does ESMin use approximately?

Helloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo‌ooooooo

Somewhere in the 700's, I think. Probably (and hopefully less).
I think I'm overestimating.

@BlockCoder1392 Dude, stop with the hellos. But hello.

1:16 AM
Oh, then 64 surrogates is absolute overkill...

@RikerW forever {console.write("hello")}

@BlockCoder1392 for(;;)'s shorter.

@BlockCoder1392 for(;;)println("shut up blockcoder")

(;;) always looks like the loop condition is crying.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ :P
Never mind, that is for sequences of numbers.

Sorry.
I don't think there is one.
Create one !!!

Ooh, maybe the quine tag? Because it is a sort of meta-quine.

1:44 AM
I think that ESMin's automatic function aliasing is starting to fall apart. That's gonna suck.

ELI5 automatic function aliasing?

ELIC ^

Explain it like I'm Calvin.

Explain it Like I'm 5 and that ^, respectively.

1:46 AM
Calvin=calvin from calvin and hobbes.
@El'endiaStarman lol

There are subreddits for both.

that mid-sentence caret

Okay... ESMin basically does function aliasing for me, meaning that everything in a Javascript object (say, Array.prototype.replace) is aliased to a shorter equivalent (eg.: Ć or something like that). All done programmatically, which does have its pitfalls.
My Firefox updated, and with it, some of the functions were moved around or something, meaning that ć was no longer a map function; it was a filter function.
Don't know if this makes sense...

mini challenge: Make a program print it's a complement quine. (E.g, each character is mapped to 126 - char code; ! => }, etc.)

@ןnɟuɐɯɹɐןoɯ Well, that definitely sounds problematic.

1:49 AM
Indeed, @El'endiaStarman.

Did Firefox change its PRNG or sorting algorithm or something?

Not sure, it just updated in general.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Does the output source code have to do the same thing too?

It was a quick fix, but it could happen again on a larger scale. And then that's gonna be bad.

@trichoplax think of it like a quine

1:51 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I get that part, but does it also have to work for successive times, alternating between the original and the complement?

@trichoplax Nope!
That would be cool, too.
+1 star bonus if you do.

Maybe too much, but with the people round here you never know...

@trichoplax Huh, I never noticed you are blue now.

@AlexA. You may not ಠ_ಠ

@Dennis So many blue names in here now I don't stand out :)

@Dennis I'm helping moderate Computer Graphics (just until they can graduate and have an election)

Yes, I saw. Three mods from two European countries. Not suspicious at all...

:)
We have users from all over, but had very few nominations

2:03 AM
@Dennis seems legit
I think "Great minds waste time alike" is our new official motto (or should be)

@Dennis Also, 2 out of the 3 have their highest rep from PPCG. Not the best sign for a programming themed SE...

It just sums us up way too well

@trichoplax In all seriousness, congrats! They couldn't have picked a better mod.

Haven't you been a mod on CG for a while?

@Dennis Thank you!

2:05 AM
I don't know I just remembered seeing your glorious diamond a month or so back

@quartata Yes but Dennis only just noticed :)

Ah
I bet CG will graduate before PPCG, knowing our luck

Luck has nothing to do with it.

Actually Jeff Atwood flips a coin every day to decide whether or not we graduate
I thought you knew

@quartata but both sides are tails

2:07 AM
Did you see Doorknob's graphs earlier today? Looks like another 3 to 6 months until we have over 10 questions per day on a regular basis

Yeah, heads we don't graduate and tails we don't graduate.
Someday the coin will land on its side though.
Maybe.

I know that's not the only condition but it looks promising

Quite frankly, I don't think PPCG will ever graduate.

All seriousness, I agree.
It fits the "endless beta" model they talked about too well.
Also... star troll?
Maybe isn't that starworthy

oh no

2:09 AM
The star troll is avoiding my messages and making it look like me... :(

STAR TROLL ALERT

I seriously hope we don't have a blue star troll. :P

That would be nightmarish

Let me rephrase: Mods do not troll. Even if you do not understand their actions, they're just doing their jobs.

Q: Convert a number to Hexadecimal

Random GuyChallenge Here's a simple one. Write a function or program when given a number in base 10 as input, it will return or print that number's value in Hexadecimal. Base conversion is banned anyway.

Damn Dennis is too fast

@Dennis I once had a lecturer who taught that "no gentleman would consider 0 a natural number" and gave no explanation beyond that...

2:30 AM
@trichoplax I guess that makes me not a gentleman...
I feel ashamed of myself.

@trichoplax But it is one. Because math.

@quartata There's no shame in not being gentry. Regarding 0 as a natural number however...

I sense a holy war over natural numbers brewing
Also @SuperJedi224 you whipped out that Turing Machine solution really fast

My opinions on this depends strictly on the subject I'm teaching.

I don't actually have a strong opinion - that was just a joke...

2:32 AM
OK.

@quartata I've done base conversion on a turing machine before.

Ah
Really fun to watch it count up

@SuperJedi224 For some reason that makes it sound like someone brought you the Turing machine for a tune up...

Although on that online interpreter it doesn't seem to stop
