It’s also easier yo pretend you’re an amazing person and suppress your craziness so ros don’t kick you

@Mayube and mods...

I admire you ROs btw and you’re amazing and i would vote for you as president please don’t kick me

Mods are just insecure ROs

@user ಠ_ಠ
don't waste you vote
remember vote for rick astley as president

oh god makina is insanely hard to code in

4:03 PM
@RadvylfPrograms ???
Great way to get hyper to kick your

Oh fun, somebody on my floor in the office tested positive for the 'rona

:|

|:

they were last in the office on monday, and I wasn't in on monday, but i was in 2 days last week

Oh no, not the top bar again... ruins the exceedingly gratifying feeling of seeing that bright green notification up above...
(not exaggerated)

4:31 PM
CMC: given a list of lists, flatten it but pair each element with the index of the sublist it was from. E.g. [[1, 2, 3], [], [2, 5]] -> [(1, 0), (2, 0), (3, 0), (2, 2), (5, 2)]

@pxeger C# with Linq: a=>a.Select((b,i)=>b.Select(n=>(n,i))).SelectMany(i=>i)

4:47 PM
@pxeger Same solution ported to JS: a=>a.map((b,i)=>b.map(c=>[c,i])).flat()

> You bought a used car factory with a profit of $127,167.27/min for $14,177,132.62

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I forgot how much time I spent making up ridiculous names for factories in this game

@RadvylfPrograms it'll pay itself off in under 2 hours

4:49 PM
Yeah, it's a short-term clicker/idle game
It's pretty broken. The Bank lets you get beyond-exponential growth using upgradeable interest rates, the stock market sometimes has stocks drop down to $0.01 then spike to $10.00 an hour later, etc.

most idle games are pretty broken. Turns out it's a pretty hard genre to balance

5:13 PM
unfortunately I'm stuck with a default username until April 16th

wat why

@user1116284 Mods can change your username at any time
Unless the reaosn you have a default username is that you named yourself like, Hyper's Mom or something and this is the mods' revenge

@RadvylfPrograms it's punishment for me screwing around with invisible characters

I have learned my lesson and will be a good boy from now on
now if only I knew a mod that frequents this chatroom /s
1 * 0 = 1
TIL

5:33 PM
Well really, 1 * 0 could be either 0 or 1, we just go with 0 because it makes calculations easier.

@user1116284 agreed: ato.pxeger.com/…

Just like how 1 + 1 can be either 1 or 2

5:49 PM
20 messages moved to Trash

thanks

@hyper-neutrino @WheatWizard Can you perma-delete those?

done, and i demolished the message history for the conversation as well

thanks

@user1116284 none come to mind

5:55 PM
lol

anyway if you give me a username i can 11 it back lol

@hyper-neutrino Ginger

can you actually have a ♦ in your username?

5:56 PM
same as originally

thx

@Ginger Wha?

It's been changed already
2 mins ago, by hyper-neutrino
anyway if you give me a username i can 11 it back lol

As the person who sent that mod message and specifically offered to change it back, my response is more "why do you think that this is a punishment?"

6:00 PM
it's not
I was exaggerating

I mean... I understand it being exaggerating but it makes it seem like whoever reset your username is mean and rude rather than the reality - someone willing to help get past the problematic username and back to something else. :(

oh

@allxy Who is the silhouette/reflection of, in the diamond in your pfp?

that is not how I meant it
sorry catija

It looks like a cartoon character of some kind?

6:02 PM
I think it's some deltarune thing

@Ginger Cool. :)

@mathcat it was lyxal's pfp for some time I believe

@Catija oh i assume you didn't send it from our site? or do CMs send messages that are invisible to mods

I think it was on MM

would make sense

6:06 PM
bluh
I created Makina and I'm still bad at it
then again it's possible it's just that hard to use
I've been trying to create a program that prints multiplication tables for ~2hrs
now I've managed to get it to almost work but for some reason when it reaches the end it suddenly starts spawning hundreds of automatons

@hyper-neutrino Nah, Ginger'd posted on MSE and that's where it got flagged :)

ah i see :)

> Ginger'd
get ginger'd
somewhere in my program there's a bug that's causing hundreds of automata to spawn

Lol was the offending post in question your post about the userscript fix you'd made?

yup
they didn't like my invisible name trickery

6:13 PM
you came looking for rep and instead got a name change lol

yup

Mar 24 at 19:59, by ឴឴឴
I'll do the real thing on April Fools Day probably
I guess this^ is ruined now

yeaaaa
¯\_(ಠ_ಠ)_/¯
of the 4 people that viewed the Stack Apps post, 3 of them upvoted it
ah HA
FOUND IT
when you're writing code that looks like ^>JO0JO;J J< you know you've screwed up
that is 4 jumps within 12 characters of each other

@Ginger is this a jojo's meme?

no
it's just Makina code

6:18 PM
You sure you're not just Makina jojo's reference?

ಠ_ಠ
I wish there were a way for me to do breakpoints
sadly that's not very easy in a 2d language

6:32 PM
@pxeger Apparently working at google as a dev is pretty fun
Apparently you get a day every few weeks to work on (work-related) side projects

I thought they only did that for a little while as a promotional thing

That's where the "text adventure" came from among other things
@RadvylfPrograms Hm, okay

@pxeger you know what would be great for ATO? vim keybindings:)

Can't wait to get home today and play Hypixel Zombies. I've played so much in the last week that I'm in the top 20 this week for rounds completed lol

It's the same point, although there it's about syntax highlighting

6:36 PM
I completely understand, maybe in an parallel universe:)

oh, I even mentioned vim keybindings as an analogy

Yes I saw that:)

I think there are browser extensions to add vim keybindings to arbitrary websites; you could try one of those

Have you any particular one in mind? So far I've only found ones that were made for navigating the web, but not really for the use in e.g. textareas.
I know there are some js implementations of vim
maybe it's possible to make a bookmarklet though

No, I'm afraid, I've never used one so I don't know where to point you

6:39 PM
FINALLY
I DID IT
I WROTE A MAKINA PROGRAM THAT PRINTS TIME TABLES FROM 1*1 TO 9*9

uh
one seccy
gotta set it up for that

6:53 PM
@pxeger ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Ask Lyxal, it's a deltarune thing

I solved Semantle #61 in 108 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 11.74. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #78. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 86.44 (999/1000). semantle.novalis.org
that was
interesting
my first top 1000 was fucking 53 lmaoooooooo

Odds on Doorknob being removed causing a mod election? I'd guess not, as clearly he wasn't handling enough flags for his absence to affect things, but we haven't had only 3 mods since 2013

12 hours ago, by Bubbler
I think the election is run only when the site isn't adequately moderated by the current ones

^

So I don't think it would

7:00 PM
I don't think him being removed would directly cause one, but it wouldn't surprise me if we have one earlier than we would "normally"

Who else is going to hold the door?

My last prediction was that the next would be in 2023, so I won't be surprised if there's one before the end of the year

I'm guessing/hoping late 2024
Because that's when I turn 18 :p

@flawr Hmm, any users named Hodor around? :P

Because you'll be old enough to run?
ninja'd

7:03 PM
@RadvylfPrograms I'm hoping for earlier, mainly because 4 years with no new mods is a bit too long IMO :P

Hyper and WW are almost always around, and I'm pretty sure JoKing's pretty active too, so I think it's pretty unlikely we'll need a mod election for a few years unless all three decide to meet up and get hit by a bus

And also I stand a better chance of getting elected if you don't run :P

there's likely not going to be a new election as a result of doorknob leaving
i appreciate his service as a mod but since we've been elected he did very little and hasn't logged into the site since august last year, so his departure is really more symbolic than anything

@cairdcoinheringaahing Hodor.

@UnrelatedString that's a fun variation. Took me 17 guesses to get into the top 1000, but I have no idea where to go form here:)

7:06 PM
the semantle experience :)

I'm 41 guesses in, gotten 5 in the top 1000, including one at 976, but still feel no closer lol

I got it in 14 due to extreme luck

Stupid question: Is it something someone who doesn't speak english natively would know?

ayy
I solved Semantle #61 in 87 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 4.71. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #17. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 14.54. semantle.novalis.org

7:18 PM
I just seem to have no luck at all in semantle
I even guessed mousepad

@mathcat that's how I felt right up until I got it

7:51 PM
In SE elections, if I really don't want candidate X to win, is it more effective to put X last in my ballot, or to not put X in my ballot at all?
ahem I mean, Hodor.

I understand why games like Semantle and Wordle are once per day, and the reasoning they provide makes sense, but man it really doesn't work for me :/

i.stack.imgur.com/0HpYB.png Is there a bug that middle of others' post is hidden? I don't have an alt and can't decide

I don't know what you mean by "the middle of others' post"

@Hodor The 3rd paragraph of the picture

7:58 PM
It's just because of the height of the O(2^{k^2})

@Mayube I'm at 988/1000 right now

What do you see if you don't edit?

@l4m2 the same that's shown in your screenshot

That's intended but everyone in comment seem to can't see it

8:04 PM
what gives you that impression?

they try to do worst case poly
then claim it impossible currently and close

8:19 PM
Whoa, you might get famous question

that's what I hope

8:43 PM
UPDATE: I've changed the header fix script a bit to add some more padding

@Hodor don't put X in your ballot. The fractional voting system SE uses means that if you put them anywhere on your ballot, there is a chance they'll get some of your vote. Not including them guarantees 0% of your vote

9:19 PM
I solved Semantle #61 in 121 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 15.67. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #99. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 65.90 (994/1000). semantle.novalis.org

9:29 PM
yeah, re what Hodor asked, what caird said is correct
if you want to read more about the specific system used the wiki page is en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counting_single_transferable_votes#Meek
but if you're not interested in the technicalities all you need to know is that you should leave whoever you don't want to be mod off your ballot, and only rank people you'd be okay with :P

1 hour later…
10:59 PM
@Hodor I can answer this - Berdly.
And it's not a diamond it's a block of ice
Because it's the result of gaslighting one of your friends into freezing everyone, eventually including that friend's best friend
And the best part is that it only takes me 26 minutes on average per run

11:31 PM
is one of said people a chicken nugget or is that something else entirely

Guys, it is time to admit the truth: I am Doorknob. I have merely been pretending to be this incompetent, annoying user instead of being myself to test whether or not CGCC can survive without me. I have concluded that it cannot. Please give me (this account) full mod powers and remove other mods. Also give me avocad juic. Thank
I am willing to settle for advocad juic

@UnrelatedString yes

I am willing to settle for unjuic'd advocad and instrution to juic
Okay fine, I'm willing to settle for juice of any sort. Geez, you guys drive a hard bargain, won't even give a former moderator what he's due

3,take it or leave it.
That's the best deal you'll get from anyone here.

@Ginger what's wrong with doing it in CSS?

the thing that frustrates me about autobrackets is that it changes the behaviour for selecting text and then trying to overtype it - if the first character of what you're overtyping is an autobracketing character then the editor "helpfully" brackets the selected text instead

Ah yes the old do x without y problem
