Q: Be respectful in the restroom

DanielOf course, the SE network is very knowledgeable about how to be respectful in the restroom, but for those of you who need a recap, being respectful means flushing the toilet, etc. Most importantly, though, it means using the stall as far away from others as possible. The challenge Given a blue...

Relevant... CGCC?

I'm so stupid

forget advertisements, johnvertisements are the way to go

You're too good at this

12:02 AM
@user didn't get me

Starring for relatability

@Lyxal Didn't expect you'd click on it

@user I've learned to hover over the link first to determine the URL

It was mostly for caird, Redwolf, and others less knowledgeable in the ways of rickrolling :P

See, why bother unstarring a message when you can instead clear your star on it? :P
Clearing stars = spicy unstarring

*laughs in missed out on room ownership by 4 votes*

btw you can put an s at the before the .jpg or whatever to make it small
@Lyxal Laughs in missed out on room ownership by a dozen votes

Also why does the confirm thing say "remove stars against this message"

@user eww light mode

Light mode is way better in a well-lit room
Dark mode is only good when it's dark around you

12:15 AM
please try these sorts of star-related things in the sandbox. this is a pretty well-known thing anyway
12 messages moved to Trash

i still got the screenshot though
worth it.

Any scoring suggestions for my Compose a song question?
Would this be okay?

Java Code: *has compilation error*
Me: *fixes it*
VSCode: Sorry bud, but there's a compilation error
Me: *tries using javac in powershell*
Code: *Compiles properly*
Me: *tries VSCode again*
VSCode: Sorry bud, you've got an error
Me: ...

How are you using VSCode to compile Java code? A command in terminal or some kind of plugin?

VS hate you

12:28 AM
@Bubbler run without debugging
but VS is just generally stupid i think
you see that?
That's VS Code screwing up highlighting

you may want to apologize to VS first so that she will forgive you and stop this madness

AFAIK VS Code itself knows nothing except JS/TS. Everything else is a plugin's job

ITS CODE EMPHASIS NOT SYNTAX HIGHLIGHTING

@Lyxal I kinda like that green ;

You're supposed to rant about Java plugin you're using, not VS Code

12:31 AM
it's gotten worse

default

e (c should not be orange

Wow, it's totally borked

exactly

that is so colorful i wish pycharm were like that

12:33 AM
Maybe try "Restart language server" or something?

have some sympathy for the code emphasizer, it's had a long day

user image

that's it i'm restarting vscode
okay good it's fixed

Nice
Now try Run

nope
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Error: Unresolved compilation problem:

        at Clinic.main(Clinic.java:454)
nvm it's gotten worse
I don't think it likes me
I think I'll use atom for a bit

interesting, looks like the colors have shifted up

12:38 AM
Ugh people use some really weird formatting in code golf answer headers

lol I'm using an unstable language and I still get better results than that
@RedwolfPrograms Punish them by not including their answers in your ratings :P

I'm about to try something. Any guesses on what percentage of them follow the pattern [^,]+, ?\d+( (bytes|characters))??
I'm going to say 90

69%?

I'm guessing there would be a space between the \d+ and bytes for most

^

12:42 AM
There is, but the wrapping might have messed it up

^

I'll throw chars into the mix too
About 80%

@RedwolfPrograms is that the answer or another guess?

@RedwolfPrograms ok, will do

12:51 AM
Have you filtered out HTML tags properly?
Many of the unmatched ones include incremental golfs like 44 43 42 bytes I guess
And some have links on the word "bytes"

I take out anything in strikethroughs
Then remove the rest of the tags
So <h1><a href=xyz>Java</a>, <s>40</s> <s>28</s> 14 bytes</h1> becomes Java, 14 bytes

Good

@RedwolfPrograms That's a rather short answer for Java /s

At least it should include all my APL posts

turns out I'm really bad at clone hero

12:57 AM
I'm going to try removing any unnecessary things in parentheses now
I'll keep certain patterns like (v2) or (ES\d+)
But things like C (20) or Java, (10 + 20 = ) 30 bytes will become C 20 or Java, 30 bytes

@OldSandboxPosts Hi there! Just got two this time?

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

hendryYour client asks you to produce an "org chart" of their statically generated Website's navigation paths. You can use the Google sheets chart feature if you like, as long as the chart looks similar to what the client expects here: Notice that a child can only have one parent, so you need to calcu...

at least it's sandboxed

org chart

2:52 AM
@Lyxal people say sublime text is the greatest
I've never used it
btw, anyone doing the selectql thing?

considering it for the bounty

@NewSandboxedPosts I can't really describe how it doesn't fit on our site, though I have a strong feeling against it

@Razetime I tried sublime once, and although it's good, I feel I prefer VS when it actually works
And by once, I mean I used it for esolang purposes several times

3:24 AM
@Bubbler feels like a promotion for goserverless.sg

Q: xkcd 2385 KoTH (Final Exam)

EnderShadow8xkcd 2385 KoTH For those of you also taking Game Theory, your grade in that class will be based on how close your grade on this exam is to 80% of the average. This challenge, inspired by the xkcd comic above, is where bots must try to maximise their grades for two subjects: Cybersecurity and Gam...

3:43 AM
@NewMainPosts Thank you, I don't even code js and my first js program ever written is going to be an object named "40" and return 40 no matter what

Welcome to the wonderful and awful world of JS!
5

4:05 AM
eventually someone will make a learning bot for that question

@okie probably, I don't see any character limit

4:38 AM
Seriously
I spent a ton of time debugging something that wasn't a bug
One of the pages the bot was going to was returning 404
Turns out that's supposed to happen
While that's annoying, it might mean that I now have a working bot

4:54 AM
Lol

i hate golfing long complex things (like the current selectql thing) especially involving complex regex cuz for no explainable reason once i get too far along a train of thought if i break focus for a bit it makes me really stressed and i don't like it

Ugh I'm getting CAPTCHA'd on the last few tries before getting this bot to work

@RedwolfPrograms you're gonna have to remind me which bot this is
Because I don't remember
@hyper-neutrino yes.

The one for The Guild of Reviewers

@RedwolfPrograms ah. What does it do?

5:05 AM
It fricking works. That's all I care about right now :D
(It's like OSP but more so)

How so?

in The Guild of Reviewers, 2 hours ago, by Redwolf Programs
The features I'm planning are:
Go to there to see the full list

Cool
Cool cool

I've got it posting in a chat room now, so I just have to hook it up to the API
I can also go ahead and integrate that into New Posts to make an instant NMainP
I'll put that in its own room at some point tomorrow

gah well i finally finished the selectql thing and it's so painful to look at i don't even want to try to golf it

5:08 AM
Nmp but it isn't bad? Surely that's impossible

it's just an extremely unholy amount of regex

Imagine using a golfing language that doesn't have regex support
(that's for all other languages that don't have regex)

i thought this would be slightly more fun and at some point i realized how much regex it was gonna end up being but (assuming it's valid) it's worth it for the bounty :P
why do i do this to myself
someone figure out how to make Crab in the new koth :P

@hyper-neutrino making crab should be impossible, there is only one way to win

@hyper-neutrino I was planning on submitting an APL solution later today to get 800 but you were faster :P

5:15 AM
@Razetime oops :P sorry :P

it is competition after all, no need to be sorry

Why is there a "Not the room you are looking for" text under the right pane? What is its use

No clue what you're talking about; do you have a screenshot?
oh nvm it only shows up if you're only in one room
... i have no clue honestly. i think it's meant to prompt you to rejoin your other starred rooms
it's not a link so i don't know
Arqade has an interesting site feature - screenshot of the week. instead of an info box in the top right corner lke what we have, each week they have a (presumably popularity-selected) screenshot from a game that people can submit
that's pretty cool. doesn't make sense on CGCC but that's a really cool feature

Photography has it too

makes sense

5:32 AM
We could have it too
And it could link to the blog post

Oh now I understand
When blog is starting

Don't know

hm. but i don't think we should replace the info box. i don't know if it does much, but we need as many things as possible pointing new users to what our site is about so we don't get SO spam :P
the blog can just be featured, or maybe we could even put it up on the events tab

Will blog run as different meta questions or same meta question?

Different meta questions

5:44 AM
i'm assuming there's no use for answers under the blog questions?

Probably it might be of use in the same sense as answers to an announcement on MM

i'm wondering if we could have discussion of the blog post in answers or if they should be comments. granted, whether or not using answers is on-topic is pretty much up to us to decide anyway, sandbox, deadlineless bounties, and the blog itself are already going to be abuses of how SE's system was set up :P
