Pet Peeve: Challenges that require you validate input along-side the actual challenge

@ATaco More than a pet peeve for me, I just fully ignore them
They're almost never worth the effort

I don't like what I did to dotcomma. I sacrificed my vision for the language in order to make it Turing complete.

@RedwolfPrograms How so?

Originally the , operator would take input, and produce output. Now, it takes and pushed values to a queue.
I guess it made sense at the time, but now that I look at it that decision went completely against what I liked about the language, which was the challenge of trying to get the right values where you needed them.

@RedwolfPrograms I have a solution for that
One which maintains TCness and vision
You make an interpreter flag which switches the functionality of the comma
Without flag, the comma performs its original function
With flag, the comma makes it tc

Personally, I'd recommend a different command

Except in this case, that'd go against the "It was designed to have as few instructions as possible, while still being interesting." philosophy of dotcomma
@RedwolfPrograms alternatively, make the Tc part a language extension

2:59 AM
Remember, Being TC is optional for PPCG, For instance, TacO is not Turing Complete.
(Impressively, it still can factor primes)

@Lyxal I probably will. I think I'll split the interpreter into "Dotcomma" and "Dotcomma (Queue)"

@Adám What’s the expected timeline on the contest?

3 hours later…
6:33 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing phase I questions complete and ready for testing by the end of Nov '20, phase II questions complete and ready for testing by the end of Dec '20.

9:26 AM
some sort of densely packed brainfuck might be able to

well it's gonna be 14 days, wonder if someone was trying to answer

The more opportunity for you ;)

Q: The Fibonacci Rectangular Prism Sequence

nthnchuWhat is the Fibonacci Rectangular Prism Sequence? The Fibonacci Rectangular Prism Sequence is a sequence derived from the Fibonacci sequence starting with one. The first 3 numbers of the Fibonacci sequence (starting with one) are 1, 1, and 2, so the first number of the Fibonacci Rectangular Prism...

This is kind of an unobservable requirement, right?
To me it would make much more sense for the program to just do one step of the bogosort, by taking an array as input and either returning it (if sorted) or shuffling it in a random way (where random means any possible permutation can occur).
(Oh, I just noticed it's nearly 10 years old :p)

@NewMainPosts Is there a good way to do this in Oasis?

1 hour later…
3:43 PM
@RedwolfPrograms Yeah probably. This could be done with a restriction on time average aymptotic time complexity. But the challenge doesn't do that.

3:57 PM
Can someone have a read through the explanation on this and let me know if it doesn't make sense?

:o happy spooky day everyone
