9:00 PM
My mom used to write me excuses to skip class because I'd get a B regardless of how much I attended class >_>

It's what we call the AP curriculum before Grade 12. :P

@LuisMendo Well I hoped there was a -1:1 builtin :)

@HyperNeutrino wait, you can only take AP tests as a senior?

For simplicity sake I'll only show the first 6 bottles and what it would be for each of the first inputs. With 0 bottles missing (x=0...

9:00 PM
that's so dumb

Wait 'till you see Australia's system.

"AP" is advanced placement, at my school I could take any AP course after 9th grade. And any IB course after 10th.

It's different per state.

IB is a college credit course.
AP is a potential college credit course.

Anonymous
@HyperNeutrino There are non-senior AP tests though... World History is usually taught to sophomores.

9:01 PM
I took AP CSE in 10th grade.

Ah I see. Well my school only offers AP Bio, Phys, Chem, and a few Maths I think

@MagicOctopusUrn yeah, as far as I know all you have to do for AP is pay and show up for the test

We did huffman compression in Java usign the BlueJ IDE xD.

at least that's what I did

Physics-Chat-Mini-Poll: Calorimetry, Mechanics, Particle Physics or cinematics?

9:01 PM
And also I would have to go to another school to take the IB program and take it from 9 through to 12

@StepHen yeah dude, you can literally skip EVERY AP class and show up for the final test, pay for it, take it, pass it and get an F in the class but still get college credit.

@StepHen They don't let people do that in our school ;_;

@StepHen if you don't mind living in detention ._.

@HyperNeutrino no but you could still do it, just pay the test fee and show up

hm ok

Anonymous
9:02 PM
I took World History as a sophomore; US History, Physics B, and English Composition as a junior; and Computer Science and Calculus BC as a senior

@MagicOctopusUrn as I said I was homeschooled, I called the school, mailed a check in, and showed up

There is no such thing as detention here.

Ofosho, colleges sometimes even offer the AP tests when opting out of required courses.

Anonymous
@StepHen It would be considerably cheaper and easier to take a CLEP exam, though

All these terms I don't know!!

9:03 PM
I want to be able to pass the CEH exam :(

@ATaco Like?

@Mego yes, it would - however AP is more prevalent/accepted for colleges than CLEP iirc

I'm not sure of the mechanics of detention here because I have never been placed in detention before (other than in kindergarten for disagreeing with the teacher on an ambiguously stated rule :P), but I'm not sure it exists, at least in high school, at least at my school. xD

I'd kill for a CEH certification, but the last time I took the CEH class I was just so f***ing lost.

CLEP, AP, Etc.
CEH now too.

9:04 PM
AP = Advanced Placement

@ATaco AP is Advanced Placement

Nice.

@HyperNeutrino Skip a few days to find out.

IB = International Baccalaureate (?)

CEH = Certified Ethical Hacker.

Anonymous
9:04 PM
@StepHen Most colleges that accept AP credit will also accept the equivalent CLEP credit

@MagicOctopusUrn ಠ_ಠ That would just result in my parents getting a call the first day I try

aka college-level courses that you study for in high school and take a test for and if you pass you get college credit

Believe me, I've gotten at least 3 calls home saying I skipped a class even though I didn't. xD
Teachers keep forgetting I exist. :(

@HyperNeutrino Wait are you in canada?

9:05 PM
@HyperNeutrino That makes sense then.

Which I personally don't mind; I prefer not to have teachers notice me a lot.
@MagicOctopusUrn :P

@Mego my college doesn't take CLEP Calc, and I don't think CLEP CS exists

Detention is a US thing I think tbh... It never works.

Anonymous
@HyperNeutrino I had a teacher in high school that frequently forgot to take attendance, so my parents often got that call. Had I been a bit more rebellious in high school, I would've taken advantage of that to skip more classes :P

@Mego lol that's one way of doing things :P

9:06 PM
I always got the old "what is detention, washing dishes?" from friends

I just told my mom I didn't want to go in high-school and she was really cool about it; just made me show her my syllabus and she made sure I did all homework I'd miss.

My math teacher marked me absent on a day even though it was a test day and she had my test ;_;
@MagicOctopusUrn ;_; your parents are like extremely un-strict ;_;

@Mego Who would have thought you would moderate a chat room, huh?

Anonymous
@StepHen CLEP CS doesn't exist, and not accepting CLEP Calculus is abnormal. The CLEP calculus test is very similar to the AP Calculus B test.

@HyperNeutrino 1 divorce and being the youngest of 4 and the only to get decent grades makes you a little more... immune I s'pose. She was prolly happy I wasn't smoking weed like my older brother ._.

9:07 PM
@Mr.Xcoder I know right? I'm moving up in the world.

Nice :P

@MagicOctopusUrn Ah I see. My parents expect good marks (attendance also, but I've skipped so many classes for contests and such lol) xD I should mention that I have semi-stereotypical Chinese parents :P

Chinese Canadian? That's possible?!

@MagicOctopusUrn that's really common from what I've seen

@MagicOctopusUrn have you seen toronto???

9:09 PM
Really? I've never been to canada.

@LuisMendo When you have time, please add an explanation to that answer.

You should come here. Mego would like the temperature :P

How does a penguin live in... Texas BTW?

air conditioning

9:09 PM
I don't count niagara as canada btw

Anonymous
@HyperNeutrino Given that I live in Texas, anywhere cooler would be preferable :P

either that or mego lives in his refrigerator
@Mego :P

Anonymous
@Mr.Xcoder Air conditioning, lots of it

@MagicOctopusUrn Depends on if you cross the border though.

Anonymous
@HyperNeutrino I don't get good WiFi reception in there, or else I might :P

9:10 PM
I did, there was like... 100% americans on the other side though lmao
Errrryone at Niagara falls is a tourist.

I am glad AC exists here too. 40 C (≈105 F) two days ago.

@MagicOctopusUrn that's like saying everyone at Yellowstone is a tourist

Anonymous
@Mr.Xcoder 104 F? How cute.

I know, right?

...
wait so you mean you've been in your fridge before

9:11 PM
@StepHen Eh... not really, I mean. YellowStone is friggin huge. Niagara is like... one small area.

@HyperNeutrino :P

@Mr.Xcoder Sure, I'll try to golf it a little more first

Why did you unglof it?

Anonymous
Earlier this summer, we had 110 F days here

Jesus, why do people live in texas.

9:12 PM
@Mego The hottest here was 43 C

@Mego you know, I complain about the cold all the time, and I say I like heat, but I really wouldn't do OK in 110 F

Max we've had is 93F with 100% humidity. I pitted out in a record 3 minutes outside.

Anonymous
@MagicOctopusUrn Oil, land, minerals, and because their parents live here for the same reasons

@Mego I guess if you're acclimated to it it's fine. My relatives from texas came up to Ohio and almost died when it was 90F out because it was 100% humidity.

Anonymous
@StepHen Doing marching band in 110 F heat back in high school wasn't fun. Water breaks every 15 minutes.

9:13 PM
from what I hear texas is a dry heat.

Anonymous
@MagicOctopusUrn Not all the time. Our weather patterns are basically 100% RNG.

I mean Texas is bigger than... how many countries?

I remember that time we went to South Carolina with another air cadet squadron and got there at the same time as some Girl Scouts from Florida... even we found the temperature a bit cold so they were probably frozen solid :P

@MagicOctopusUrn At least 50

9:15 PM
All of those tiny countries in the Middle East and in Central/South America

Anonymous
Texas (and specifically North Texas, where I live) is at the intersection of many different climate areas (dry cold air from the north, warm humid air from the southeast, dry warm air from the west), so we get wildly variable weather depending on how those climates interact.

Mego's RNG: The sky

@Mego yeah, that was my point. Dependant on where you live in texas the climate is EXTREMELY different due to it's size.

> patterns

Meteorologists here have tough jobs. There have been times where rolling dice is just as accurate as looking at the forecast.

Anonymous
9:17 PM
@MagicOctopusUrn It's not just location either - you can get wildly different weather over the course of a few days.

@Mego same here, mostly because the humidity can turn a cloud into a super-saturated cloud in like 5 minutes flat haha.
OR however the f*** weather works.
Isn't radar just calculating the density of a cloud based on water concentration or something?

And then there's my parents. They seem to always be able to do things right before a condition is changed that would result in that action causing great inconvenience. Example: My dad changed the snow tires off and then that night it started snowing like the largest snowflakes I've seen in my life

We had a long random argument about this at work like a week ago.

Anonymous
In 2009, there was a week that started cool and dry, quickly changed to a snowstorm, and then ended up with hot and humid.

9:18 PM

Q: Square Root a Nymber my Way

GryphonNow that we know how to Square a Number my Way, we need an inverse operation, a way to Square Root a Number my Way. To square a number my way, you simply stack it on top of itself a number of times equal to the number of digits it contains, and then take read off every number that is formed both...

The way weather radar works is by shooting a radar signal (i.e. a very high frequency sound) at the sky and seeing how much bounces back. That tells you stuff like cloud coverage and density.

"Given an input date, output the name of the 7 days after that date (that date included), in the correct order"
@Mego yeah! So it is detecting how much bounces back, when the cloud has more water in it it'll bounce back more or if the cloud is thicker or something? That was our consensus on how it'd prolly be working.

Anonymous
9:21 PM
@MagicOctopusUrn Yep. Clouds reflect the radar signal back at the ground.

Meteorologists are basically bats

Anonymous
I was really into meteorology as a kid, and retained a lot of the knowledge :P

@Mego it's interesting that like 5 CS&E majors were able to deduce the methodologies of meteorologists with no prior knowledge what-so-ever haha.

Anonymous
@MagicOctopusUrn Well the word "radar" is a pretty big hint :P

We were literally BSing about weather and that's the explanation we came up with heh. We didn't use the word radar though.
We were like "scanning for cloud density and seeing which clouds blocked the most signal" or something...

Anonymous
9:23 PM
If you understand how radar works for submarines, you understand how it works for weather. The only difference is the frequencies used (detecting metal in water versus water in air).

Anonymous
Lightning detectors are also cool. I'm not sure if they're more advanced now than when I had the meteorology obsession, but at least back then, they were antennas that recorded when there were big spikes in current flowing through them.

@Mego where would you put those? in lightning rods?

Anonymous
Thanks to the magic of electromagnetic induction, they don't need to be actually struck by lightning - they just need to be somewhat near the lightning strike.

Interesting... you'd think there'd be a way to measure extreme flashes or light too.

Anonymous
@StepHen In weather towers, alongside radar dishes, barometers, and other equipment.

9:27 PM
Not really sure if they could also use some sort of... satellite to perceive flashes of lightning.

@MagicOctopusUrn clouds might block some of it, but there are some really cool videos I'm seen of thunderstorms from really high up

Yeah, I flew through one once.
It's f***y when you're in a thunderhead.

Anonymous
@MagicOctopusUrn That's not as consistent, though. There are several explanations for bright flashes of light (reflection off of something, malfunctioning lenses, etc.). Big surges in current are very consistently caused by lightning.

@Mego Benjamin Franklin would be proud

@MagicOctopusUrn What Mego said, what if someone just shone like a laser at it

9:29 PM
Yeah, I feel like thunderstorms would be measurable using magnetic fields or something; but I succcckkked at physics soooo...

Or like a thousand LED lights

@ASCII-only you're... not supposed to shine lasers (up) in the air

Anonymous
@StepHen Sure, except that Franklin didn't have any concept of electromagnetic induction. He did experiments involving lightning directly striking things, which is a fair big different from an induced current from a nearby strike.

@StepHen Well what if someone did that to troll the lightning detector

@StepHen I'VE BEEN SHINING MY WHITE LASER AT AN AFB 5 MILES AWAY, SHOULD I NOT DO THAT?!?!

9:29 PM
@ASCII-only there's worse consequences than that... if a laser hits an airplane cockpit, it kinda screws the pilots

@StepHen Who said it was a high powered laser

There was a HUGE problem with green lasers at OSU one year. They gave them out at a physics something and all the students started playing "tag" across miles of campus with them.

Also who said it was well focused

Green lasers can go like 1 mile.
White lasers... idk what they can do.

Anonymous
@MagicOctopusUrn The drop in barometric pressure and the subsequent partial ionization of the air when a thunderstorm forms or rolls in can be detected using magnets, but I don't think that's a method commonly used.

9:31 PM
Hello!

@MagicOctopusUrn Well they can not exist for one :P

@Mego yeah you'd need one helluva magnet.

@MagicOctopusUrn *a bunch of MRI machines

Don't know if you guys remember, but I dropped by a couple of weeks ago asking for help with a cryptic challenge

@ASCII-only white lasers don't exist?
IS that what you're saying?

9:31 PM
@rahuldottech Hey!

Anonymous
@ASCII-only Are you sure?

Well, I have my own running now. It's more tech oriented

Don't you just combine a red, green and blue laser into a prism and it refracts into white light?

hackchal.cf for those interested

@Mr.Xcoder I added an explanation. I hope it's clear enough. If you are not familiar with Matlab, you may not know what linear indexing is. That concept, along with some others, is explained in the MATL entry for the showcase challenge

9:32 PM
Have fun!

@Mego that's r + g + b laser

Anonymous
@ASCII-only Yep, which makes white. Basic optics.

@ASCII-only white light = r + g + b

i guess it kinda counts, idk i wouldn't count it as a single laser
@everyone of course i know that >_>

@ASCII-only how else would you make white light? :P

9:33 PM
It registers as white light to a human eye, but not to other eyes, and is different from broad spectrum white light

Anonymous
@MagicOctopusUrn You have to have a very specific kind of prism to deal with the fact that lasers are highly focused, and you have to combine the beams in a very precise way to get them to form a cohesive white light.

Anonymous
You could theoretically make a broad spectrum white laser by combining the beams from several different colors of lasers, but that would be even harder.

@Mego I saw a reddit post about it awhile back and it was talknig about why they're not commercially available.
I only skimmed it, so I don't really grasp the full concept.
But I know you could blind someone 10 miles away with one xD.

@ASCII-only I have my own tech-oriented cryptic hunt running at hackchal.cf now. Check it out! :P

@rahuldottech I want to click it, but I don't trust links >_>

9:36 PM
You can buy some pretty strong lasers online - I had a friend who carved something into a stick with a one-watt laser, which isn't even that strong

@rahuldottech yeah, i am :P

@MagicOctopusUrn lol

@MagicOctopusUrn It's safe so far

@rahuldottech hackchal.cf/c99.php doesn't exist, wtf?

Chat entrance/exit animations don't happen when there are more than 32 active users in the room

Kidding lol.

@MagicOctopusUrn huh?

wait what hackchal.cf/index.html doesn't exist >_>

@ASCII-only index.php is what you're looking for

@rahuldottech yeah but it says index.html exists :P

9:42 PM
@rahuldottech c99 is a famous shell.*

:39333600 and why would it be the name of a php script >_>
@MagicOctopusUrn no

Oh... Wellp, I'd need another hint. It's been awhile since I've done netsec lol.

why do you think there's a proxy
what can you not access without the proxy

@MagicOctopusUrn nup not really

Magic Octopus UrnAnyone here a die-hard Bethesda fan? Maybe you prefer Obsidian Entertainment? Well, if you're either of those things than the following picture should be relatively familiar to you. I've taken the liberty of preparing a rather unique ASCII-Art challenge, so here's the first clue as to what I'm...

9:51 PM
@Cowsquack sorry was busy yesterday (btw i kinda want to steal yours because it's way golfier :P)

Ahhh... got it.

@MagicOctopusUrn Yeah. I thought you were talking about stage 0

I was initially, now I'm on stage 1; honestly I expected SQLi.
but it isnt :O

9:55 PM
:| this proxy isn't that good
whyyy

Hint for when you guys reach stage 2: Make good use of inspect element while submitting stuff
@ASCII-only because it's literally a single line of PHP. The entire proxy.

@rahuldottech oh +1 for golfing :P

@ASCII-only -1 for insecurity >_>

@MagicOctopusUrn Well it's PHP, so there's plenty of other ways to break it

@rahuldottech >_> i wouldn't need help for that, stage 1 is the problem for me lol :P

@ASCII-only wanna start a chat with me for this?

@Mego aha how could i forget >_>

@ASCII-only I'm bored enough to figure it out with ya.

@Mego *every other way to break it
@MagicOctopusUrn if you want, then okay

If I want pause then okay.
xD. I was just thinking 2 heads better than one.

Hint: Use your head

I mean it has to be something with proxy.php; how else would you do it if needthis isn't vuln to SQLi or something...

@MagicOctopusUrn the proxy is in public_http so no need for that

Ah...
/../public_html/index.html should work then lol
Maybe we should try drive letterings?

i've tried so many possible php exploits, they all don't work (that's a good thing :P)
@MagicOctopusUrn how sure are you that it's windows

I'm not. But if it were linux then what I posted should've worked, right?

10:13 PM
@MagicOctopusUrn no, it's probably just disallowed for security reasons

@ASCII-only I'm just going with what we're given... it has to be through proxy.php, or else the initial hint would be pointless.
I'm going to guess index.php has the password hardcoded into it.

also it's linux (this gives the path /home/rahulcom/extrasites/hackchal.cf/public_html/proxy.php)
