@2EZ4RTZ If you have a specific question, you're free to ask it in here, but TNB (like SO) is not a code writing service.
CMC is not an excuse for plz send the codez

@DJMcMayhem I understand that i am trying to fix a answer here and that one bit of code will fix my answer

That doesn't really make it any better

not print, append. Then after 4 appended newlines append a newline every 6 spaces

8:05 PM
Okay ... I'll probably write some D code then translate it to C.

That works :P
@DJMcMayhem well i suppose PPCG can be a code writing service. As long as you can make it have a winning criterion :P
I haven't gone that far yet

@2EZ4RTZ ...
No

Nvm you misunderstood

#include<stdio.h>
void f(char*s){char c,i=0,j=0;while(c=*(s++)){putchar(c);if(c==' ')++i;if((j<4&&i==7)||(j>=4&&i==6)){i=0;++j;putchar('\n');}}}
@2EZ4RT ^

@TuxCopter wow. that is simpressive

8:09 PM
can definitely be golfed more

"simpressive" when impressive is just not enough

@2EZ4RTZ Could the size of the input be less than the four newline thingy?

@Zacharý no

@TuxCopter Well, it's not outputting, it's just returning.
@TuxCopter Don't worry, his code is completely ungolfed.

@TuxCopter I can't find a way to append to a string in c (instead of printing output return the new output as a char)
Is there a way to do that? SO didn't have a good answer

8:11 PM
Temporary string?

@2EZ4RTZ directly set the chars in the string and realloc if it becomes too big

@TuxCopter So make the spaces = \n

This is why I use D. I hate manual memory management.
Wait, would it be possible to do some of the move counting in a different language?

Q: Binary to Hexadecimal

Hashim KayaniConvert a binary number (of any size) into a hexadecimal number. Input A POSITIVE binary number with just the 0s and 1s. A valid input will always match the following regex: [0-1]+. If the input is not a valid binary number, that is, anything not matching this regex, the output should be 0. Th...

I don't know whether to downvote the latest main challenge or not. Either way, I'm giving it a ಠ_ಠ

Before I ask on SO, does anyone know how to wrap a synchronous generator into async code? Sort of like
class BlockingIter:
    def __iter__(self):
        while True:
            return input()
(Python)

@NewMainPosts Why hasn't this had a massive amount of FGITW answers?

@muddyfish shouldn't it be yield input() not return input()

It should but I can't edit now :P
That's just the example of something I want to iterate over in a coroutine

8:36 PM
Can I get feedback on this as a challenge idea?
where, given n, output n in the base that your answer is
e.g. the first answer converts to base 1, the second to base 2 etc

List<string> Lines() {
    string s;
    while((s = Console.ReadLine()) != null) {
        yield return s;
    }
}

@cairdcoinheringaahing Because of input validation.

@Zacharý what do you think of ^^^

Hold on, I found a challenge where MY might be competitive!

@Zacharý He's removed that restriction!

8:40 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing How to convert to base 300
(There are that many TIO languages)

Shoot.
Now it's FGITW.
Only exit or error.

@Zacharý what is SFSDFSFSDFSDFS

Is MY on TIO?

Yes

@Zacharý you know that TIO has a preformat for code golf answers?

8:44 PM
@Stephen I updated it.

@cairdcoinheringaahing The answer-chaining there doesn't really mean anything

@cairdcoinheringaahing I've just never used it.

@Zacharý Why not? It automatically has links to the pages required
Plus the byte count is always correct

(except for a few APLs)
If MY actually wins, holy crap.

@Zacharý my Jelly answer is 3 bytes, sorry :(

8:48 PM
>_< STUPID VALIDATION REWRITE >_<

GRRRRRRR.

CMP: I'm trying to make a golflang, how should I name it?

@Zacharý Don't worry, now my 05AB1E answer outgolfs my Jelly answer :)
@TuxCopter Some very long name

Hello there! My code-challenge question was put on hold. I already made serious improvements, what do you think? You're welcome to cast a reopen vote or give me hints how to improve the question in this SE chat room.

8:53 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing It isn't even your answer.

@Zacharý I have no way of alerting the other guy, and I didn't want to high rep user take it, so i want for it
You should try it with APL

CMC: Do this, but with input validation.
MY, 6 bytes (polyglot.py) ⎕"PrH↵

One of my challenges got Necro'd

Necro'd? WTF is that?

Very old challenge that got an answer

8:56 PM
It's gotten a fair few answers now.

@dessert sorry, but I still think that it's unclear. It is very subjective, which leads to a lot of loopholes. Whats to stop me defining a as a homoglyph of # and using that to circumvent the rules?

Would a challenge about interpreting a decimal number as binary, then converting it to hexadecimal be considered a dupe?

Probably. Regardless it sounds super boring

@cairdcoinheringaahing How could you circumvent any of the rules with that? If you define # = a then every occurence of # in the code must give a in the output.

Wheat WizardI'm thinking if a number In this cops-and-robbers challenge cops will think of a positive integer. 9:10 PM
What notation is the golfiest? Prefix, infix or postfix?

@TuxCopter postfix

prefix and postfix are basically the same

But postfix is easier.

easier to write? Its much easier to think in prefix notation than postfix

9:12 PM
@WheatWizard To parse.

postfix is kinda easier to implement

Yeah thats what I meant by write

Why are you asking?
I thought I fixed a bug in MY ... apparently I didn't. >_<

@dessert Then the entire competition is in choosing the language. If the question were open, then the best language would be ;#

@cairdcoinheringaahing Why that?
@cairdcoinheringaahing What abuot number of signs in the code = number of letters in the output?

Okx
9:28 PM
i tried using rust for code golf... it was a bad idea

THe only time I saw rust for code-golf used was in the prime numbers without prime characters challenge, that was ... ugly as heck.

Sorry to bother you ppl with C again. But can I get help with C code? I have an alt room to talk about it to avoid "noise"

Link to that room?

chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/64389/dota this one (it is my room so it is on topic XD)

Okx
9:30 PM
in rust, to convert a number from binary u8::from_str_radix(a, 2) isn't enough... it returns a Result, which you have to .unwrap()... painful

Perhaps we should Actually let Rust rust away? Seriously

Okx
just no

@2EZ4RTZ Puns R MY territory.

@Zacharý I will take this pun land and make it my pwn

guys Seriously...

9:31 PM
You should integrate Rust into the game Rust and force people to be on a multiplayer server for 30 minutes before they can run their code.

We have become a land of puns a gain.

@TuxCopter Hypocrite! You capitalized Seriously, therefore you meant it as a pun.

@MagicOctopusUrn haha

Okx
@MagicOctopusUrn the rust language is suppose to be really fast but the rust game runs at 10 fps on my computer...

Perhaps you are a bit Rusty

Okx

Do we LY want to start this again.

@okx I used to have a laptop with an i7, 16 gb of ram and the intel HD built-in

I have two rx 480s

Have a 970M in my laptop now, 256 SSD and an i7.

Windows keeps releasing updates the break crossfire, and AMD keeps releasing drivers that fix crossfire.
I'm currently in the "I don't have crossfire" part of this cycle.

@dessert because I could say that # translates to a null byte, and a infinitely large ;# program would win

@ATaco userscript request: when enabled replace all text that is PC (caps or no caps) with PCMASTARACE

@2EZ4RTZ You could just edit your Chat Commands file.

wait no... that's the crappy one.

@Pavel nooo html page replace. As in all text

9:36 PM
gtg bye

Your messages with the word PC would show me the text

Niceeee

The AMD in it causes bluescreens when listening to minimized youtube mixes.
Idk why, specifically minimized youtube on chrome or firefox, not IE.

var html = $(document).html();
$(document).html(html.replace('foo', 'bar');

9:37 PM
#JustAMDThings

@2EZ4RTZ run in console

@Pavel doesn't work XD it has bugs

@MagicOctopusUrn I can't play games in fullscreen or I get INTERNAL_VIDEO_SCHEDULER_ERROR and a bsod.
I need to use borderless windowed.

Wow

@2EZ4RTZ nvm the stackoverflow I copied that from uses JQuery

9:38 PM
@Pavel Everything on stack overflow uses JQuery

@cairdcoinheringaahing you might define a sign to correspond to a letter, not null. If your code has only two distinct signs, your output can also have only two distinct letters (or homoglyphes of letters). I don't know what the longest English with only two distinct letters is, but it's sure not long. Do we misunderstand each other here?

A: Should there be a floor on votes?

2EZ 4RTZNo You are removing the right to vote freely. Is there a difference? YES. Question bans and other items like that rely on being able to get many downvotes. Believe me I know about question bans and downvotes :P

Look at the score of the question

Ah the irony

Yeah. I had a really funny comment that a mod removed XD

Anyone: codegolf.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/2140/… ? Pretty over-done on the primality business... But I thought the pattern was cool.

9:59 PM
@LegionMammal978 hey!

I must admit, OneTab is quite useful for switching between multiple tab-heavy tasks

May 6 at 15:55, by Christopher
@EriktheOutgolfer I don't use tabs for chrome now I use spaces...
@LegionMammal978 get with the times
@MagicOctopusUrn that SO won't help :P it is a full regex replacer

@2EZ4RTZ DRIVING?!?!?!?!?!?!

But yeah, a strtok solution might work if you're using C for that, @2EZ4RTZ

@Zacharý yes driving

Get off of your device. N O W.

@trichoplax sorry lol.

@Zacharý Ohhh Not driving rn

@MagicOctopusUrn Just following up on @2EZ4RTZ's request for help there

Tomorrow I am driving

10:05 PM
Oh, that makes more sense. LOL

XD yeah I am coding while TNBing while driving

@totallyhuman Your avatar makes your username look like: tota**totallyhuman

That is a good pointer

hmm?

10:07 PM
I also have no idea what you are talking about @MagicOctopusUrn

@2EZ4RTZ I totally forgot about the "coding" portion.

@LegionMammal978 Idk how to use that and the docs confuse me. I only have done 1 chapter of KnR

Do all docs confuse you?

Most docs do. I also don't know the languages I read the docs to
@vaultah hi

By docs ... I mean one page of text that is smaller than MY's documentation.

10:12 PM
@2EZ4RTZ o/

12 messages moved to Trash

I knew that would happen eventually ...

That would seem like a perfect opportunity to stop early

The puns got a bit out of control

I have stopped. Unless a perfectly good opportunity arises, I'll stop.

10:30 PM
Yay

Why does nobody in TNB actually know C enough to debug 20 lines of simple code?

That's offensive, but true.

@2EZ4RTZ The absence of a solution doesn't necessarily mean that no one can help. This just isn't the debugging help room. Please bear that in mind

@Zacharý it'd be more offensive if it wasn't a dead/dying langauge ._.

now that is offensive

10:34 PM
@MagicOctopusUrn That is definitely offensive. C isn't dead in the slightest.
You ninja'd me :(

I ADDED DYING.

C isn't dying, C11 is a thing.

Friggin everything will be npm or the slightly better other web-oriented crap soon enough.
Dying as in my company is phasing it out >_>. Then again we use COBOL for 40% of business.. so wtf do I know

<_> that is not good

Just ask @Adám, his company (Dyalog) still uses it a lot IIRC.

10:36 PM
We use ASP.NET and are phasing out C/C++/VB.NET in favor of accessible web solutions.

@MagicOctopusUrn COBOL. Seriously, COBOL. I'm wondering if anyone still uses Dartmouth flippin' basic.

I mean, yeah it's powerful in terms of math, but in terms of usability, scalability and maintainability... RIP.
@Zacharý oh man, it's not my fault 40% of <some mysterious company's> programs are in COBOL still... When in rome... Learn how to make the romans not be romans anymore...

Um.... nation's ... that makes me wonder who you work for.

Wat. I work for an insurance company... And Nation is in the name. 1 of.. 1 company.

@Zacharý That's right. But more and more of our code is in C++ and APL.

10:38 PM
Huh, I thought Dyalog was implemented in C#.

I expected the APL, obviously. Even ngn is trying to implement more in APL.
@Pavel o_o is that because of the .NET stuff? o_o

@Pavel Dyalog is cross-platform. C# is not.

Yes it is
@Adám So where is all the dotnet stuff coming from?

It's .NET. Just .NET

Well sandboxed my SO post

10:40 PM
The program that you use to build from the command line is called dotnet.exe
So you call it with dotnet build

You're gonna post it to SO? A plz send the codez question?!

SO have a sandbox??

@Pavel Well, which programming language was C# originally written in?

Right...

@Pavel Dyalog APL is one of the official .NET languages listed by Microsoft alongside C#.

10:45 PM
Are there docs for Dyalog?
Dyalog's website seems to just link to some books.

Q: Should we start giving constructive criticism when questions are closed?

ckjbgamesI have had several questions of mine closed, and I did learn my lesson when the question was closed. But, I feel like we could be more specific not about why the question was closed, but about what we could do in the future to improve the user's future questions and maybe give the closed question...

@Pavel Of course, have you tried docs.dyalog.com?

Ooh, thanks

The real question ... WTF are K's docs?

@Zacharý The whole documentation is at kparc.com/k.txt ;-)

10:47 PM
The W in WTF is what, not where.

Ew, I have to download pdfs
Get with the times, dyalog, everything has html documentation now

@Pavel Excuse me: help.dyalog.com/16.0

Not K, K just has a text documentation.

Aug 9 '16 at 23:57, by Geobits
WTF would you assume it only means what? :P

WTF is WTF ambiguous? And WTF are you getting these quotes from so fast? -_-

10:50 PM
@Zacharý Just be thankful that Arthur gave you a space between the columns.

@Adám In my defense, the page you linked for me only has pdf download links

Fast? That took over a year...

I mean WTF are you getting these from so quickly?

From the search page

I'm assuming you know that that existed?

10:51 PM
Yes I didn't just search on a whim - it got stars and stuck in the mind :)

@Pavel Excuse me: docs.dyalog.com/#OLH

Fine. All the information is technically there, but it's poorly laid out and hard to find things.

@Pavel Google is your friend. Just search for "dyalog MySearchTerm"…

@Adám Wait how high up are you in dylog?

Does APL on Linux allow .net interop with mono i.e. work on TIO?
@Adám Fair enough

10:56 PM
@2EZ4RTZ I'm not sure how to answer that. There's management/admin, and then Brian (the APL Tools Group leader). I'm in the Tools Group.

I don't think Dyalog has very many employes.

@Pavel I've looked at their "Meet team dyalog" page ... that is so true.

@Pavel No, unfortunately we do not support .NET on non-Windows, yet. We're looking into it though. Right now our priority development of the cross-platform built-in HTML renderer.

There's like 20 people there, that's not really enough for there to be different states of "high up"ness.

@Pavel True: dyalog.com/meet-team-dyalog.htm Very little company providing essential services to very large companies and organizations.

10:59 PM
And it seems (at least to me) that Dyalog has been losing members.

@Zacharý How so?

I am trying to find the SO blog post on SO academy. anyone know the links?

@Zacharý OK, getting off train. Time to bike…

@Adám Why did you have to announce that?

Because it means he's leaving.
TNBing on a bike is kinda hard.

11:04 PM
A simple GTG wouldn't be enough?

@Adám I like trains

Intentional asdf reference?

@Pavel Ofc

Always

I would make another one here, but Downgoat is gone, and it would be instantly trashed.
... Seriously though, @2EZ4RTZ

11:08 PM
Was there any reason to flag this?

If there are annoying puns, please don't use flags to report them. Outside this room they won't even be apparent as puns, and flags summon moderators and 10k users from across the network.

Now, the "send nudes" message in BF was flag-worthy.

/sigh

I already got kicked for that so bringing it up has no point

@bwDraco Sorry for wasting your time. I saw the flag but didn't catch it soon enough to stop the summons

11:11 PM
"HE COMETH"

It's okay. I've dealt with worse.

Whoever is flagging these messages, please stop. They're not offensive solely because they contain profanity. They're not meant to be offensive towards anyone.

fwiw, this is not the first time something random has been flagged in here - i feel like this just happened to me the other day.
whoever is flagging this stuff, please stop.

I flagged that one but I have not been doing it before. Sorry

11:13 PM
@2EZ4RTZ ah, okay. no problem, please just don't do it again =)

@heather Yeah sure thing

Anyway, got stuff to do so can't stay here much longer.

though, you did at least possess some taste in flagging a bad pun =P

Flags should not be anonymous to mods

That is a bad idea

11:15 PM
@heather That is a very bad idea.

@Zacharý i understand, it was a joke as represented by the '=P'

But now it's starred. Don't start this. (plz no kick!)

@Zacharý You can make feature requests on MSE

That wasn't really serious.

Ohh if i wanted to flag for site mods I would hit the lower button. Sorry

11:18 PM
@2EZ4RTZ I thought that was for all mods, not just site mods. To contact site mods only, flag one of your own posts on main and add a message with a link.

@2EZ4RTZ ey, already has a downvote.

@trichoplax No the top one is all site mods. the bottom is site mods

The top one is all 10k rep users

Wow so meta doesn't want a question about SO! Great meta guys! <sarcasm> — 2EZ 4RTZ 2 mins ago

You opened a sarcasm tag
You didn't close it

@2EZ4RTZ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I can't see vote breakdowns on SO

ಠ_ಠ

@Pavel Same but I do have a userscript that lets me see vote counts on ANY site

Uhh
What how

@2EZ4RTZ Unless there's been a recent change I don't believe there is a way to contact only site mods from chat. From the chatiquette:
> Chat flags are only for urgent or offensive violations of network wide SE policy, and alert all 10K users and mods across all SE chat rooms. Instead mention it to a room owner. If it needs to be private raise a custom flag (in need of moderator intervention) on main (not chat) on one of your own posts.

11:21 PM
@2EZ4RTZ I considered installing that but then I realized I only ever visit ppcg

That seems like a very hacky solution

Better shot

Is there a way to tell if you have been question banned?

@WheatWizard Yeah click ask question. It tells you if you have been question banned (before you even post) it won't bring up the write question box at all

er, try to ask a question?
ninja'd

11:24 PM
But I don't want to ask a question :P

"Ask question" doesn't immediatly post a question
It opens a form to type in your question.

If you are about to be banned it warns you

Oh It will tell you before you hit post. Ok

@WheatWizard what SE?

11:25 PM
You too?

Apparently not.

@2EZ4RTZ Interesting. Thank you. That doesn't seem to match my experience, so it may be that the hover text is incorrect. Might be worth raising as a bug, which will result in the exact behaviour being examined in case it's currently incorrect.

@trichoplax Ok i will do that

Yeah that text is straight up false.

I'm doing an Esolangs.org writeup for MaybeLater now.
I've been postponing it too long

11:38 PM
Lol I love the bookmark feature
@ATaco wait what I thought it was practical language

What's practical about a language with most of the flow of control being when statements?
Even TIO agrees.

How do I enter an XXD hexdump into TIO?

Are you on OSX?
You could use pbcopy to move binaries to TIO

:/ idk if that would work, I think the <textarea> might garble some bits

I doesn't

11:45 PM
I'm triyng to do LLVM bitcode

at least in my experience

ok lemme try

If something goes wrong you could always ask Dennis

And is there a way to see exactly which command is being run (like if it's being run with any flags)

Not really
I have to do it every so often
Which requires looking at the configs in TIO's source

11:47 PM
I assume TIO_CFLAGS = user flags? >_<

I don't know about that. I could show you where I usually look for this stuff if you would like.

I am looking here

Oh yeah thats where I go
Yeah there are no extra flags there
I think
No actually there are
"$@" is the user input flags
I don't know where TIO_CFLAGS comes from
might want to ask Dennis at this point
