12:00 AM
I only meant to protest Helka Homba's rules, as one of the permitted non-programming-language-name words is actually a programming language name.

I is the same thing wot J is

I didn't realize

@DestructibleLemon What? I ≠ J

I isn't terribly close to J

It's the same type of thing

12:01 AM
It is only inspired by J. Very different conceptually.

r u jelly?

@Adám It is a programming language was the point

Do any british people here still say "guv'nor"?

only ironically probably

@HelkaHomba Yes.

12:03 AM
@ConorO'Brien You should just write like 50 esolangs so you can form a really long sentence

@ASCII-only don't tempt me >.>

Inspiration can still create two very different languages.
TacO was Inspired by Jelly.

Brain-flak was inspired by brainfuck
The two are extremely different, aside from the superficial similarities

Same as Ohm/Jellyfish and Jelly

yup, I'M Seriously A Convex COW...

12:07 AM
:D +1 for yup

Why did I have to write such a complicated language ;_; it's so hard to make a decent wiki for it

which language?

@ConorO'Brien Charcoal
It's also the only language I've written

that's not terribly complicated, just go through the motions, haha

Charcoal is a pretty good idea, if I may say.

12:10 AM
@ASCII-only well you've co-written a few so there's that

@ConorO'Brien Only Cheddar IIRC?

Yeah but VSL doesn't have an interpreter yet so I wouldn't count that
@ConorO'Brien go through the motions?

it's an expression

what do you mean it's not complicated

12:13 AM
well it was also a pun. things like are motions

I could add more adjectives...

A?

I couldn't find a Wikipedia page for the language itself...

That's A+

Which is a Descendant of the language "A"
As it says on the Page.

12:26 AM
@ГригорийПерельман if an array of chars is allowed: $swapcase0.5 randomly map

Single-letter programming language names not already taken: H, N, O, P, U, W, X, and Y. Hurry up!

Is M really a language already?
huh

srsly

@Adám there's at least 2 for Y and there is an O

12:33 AM
@Mendeleev "Seriously" is taken.
@ConorO'Brien O, Y?

@Adám is "OK"?

@Mendeleev Yup, oK is a K dialect.

What about wat?

12:35 AM

Whyyyyyy
What about Pineapple

@Mendeleev I think "Whyyyyyy" is still available.

Also, TacO is a thing now, too.
And so is TACO

@ConorO'Brien No longer valid :P

12:38 AM
What about Delicious?

@HelkaHomba :P

You can search noun.js and almost definitely find a github.

Doesn't have to be a noun
react.js anyone?

You think this is a game?
CMC, Find the most obscure thing.js possible.

12:45 AM
@ATaco obscure?

Can I tell a slightly NSFW joke?

define "slightly"

Sex

check chatiquette I guess

sonething like "Why was zalgo good at sex" "H̺͡҉̵̵̢̙̖̏̿̊̊ͯͮ͆E̛̳̮̼̙̰̎̿̅̂ͬͨͨ̃̌̈́ͦ͜͜͡ ̸̲̭̫̗̝ͥ̐ͣͬͦͦ̓̾̕͝C̶̪̦̻͉̣̳̼̈͐ͭ̃҉̵͍O̵̻̺͈̝̜ͮ̍̋͟ME̴̷̪͖͈̥̎̀ͬ̇̀ͨ͢͠Ŝ̞̞̹͓̦͇̖̘̬̅̈̚͞"
woops

12:48 AM
-.-

@ConorO'Brien no, that's the repo name.

@Adám Just don't accidentally press the key one too many times

@Mendeleev What key?

12:50 AM
K

I know what the name is, so I don't need the computer to compute it. Hence, I won't need to press K at all.

@DestructibleLemon No, the name is

Wait @Adám Don't you work at Dyalog?

12:53 AM
@Mendeleev I sure do.

Cool

@Mendeleev Yes. I actually get to help design a real production programming language.
The next version will have a new primitive that I suggested, and I helped design the other new primitives.

what's the primitive?

@ConorO'Brien ⊆
Its monadic form is defined as {1≥≡⍵:⊂⍵ ⋄ ⍵} and the dyadic form is {⎕ML←3 ⋄ ⍺⊂⍵}
I also suggested the final syntax for
That's the "Game-of-Life" primitive.

Uh so anyone interested in learning Charcoal?

1:02 AM
q

@ConorO'Brien q?

I have no idea how I typed that
@Adám that's cool

> Adult H. s. sapiens couple in Thailand.
Image caption on the anatomically modern human wikipedia page

I loaded TNB and it said I was kicked for 59 seconds and I was super confused as I have not loaded this for hours today and never posted (iirc) Then I noticed it was an old webpage...

@ConorO'Brien is more cool, GoL←C∊⍨⊢∘⊂⌺3 3, where C is a constant.

1:17 AM
a constant for what?

@ConorO'Brien 140-item list of 3 by 3 matrices that result in the middle cell being alive in next generation.

this sounds cool

The J language has this wacky feature where you can input numbers in any base you want so long as you only use the digits 0 through 35 (0-9 and then a-z).
So you can sometimes save some characters by expressing some big numbers using a representation with fewer digits.
Have there been any PPCG questions about something similar? Because I was thinking this might make a cool idea for a question.

@algorithmshark How is that parsed? is 1e2b16 = hex 100 or hex 01E2?

@ASCII-only yes please

1:27 AM
You put the base on the left of the b so 1e2b16 is read as (1e2)b16 i.e. 1*100+16 = 106
16b1e2 would be 0x1E2 = 482 though.

@algorithmshark Oh, I got it backwards.

@Downgoat ok pls look at tutorial, readme and other parts of wiki and ask what you don't understand

10/10 nice tutorial
Noooooo, it's written in python? D:

@Downgoat yes, why

there is no snake antivenom for goats :(

1:30 AM
I did it because Python has lower overhead than node and DLosc (collaborator) knows python well
pls forgive me

@algorithmshark You only start saving chars above 1,000,000,000.

@Downgoat we need to help solve this

I started on a js port but gave up because it is a pita to port so many lines

@Downgoat AFAIK pythons don't bite, they crush? Or am I misremembering something

@ASCII-only will forgive if I am told how charcol is python 2 and 3 polyglot

1:33 AM
In other news, I recently got to hold a live python

@Adám 99bzzzz has seven letters but equals 34,307,000 which has eight digits.

@Downgoat it isn't
because unicode is a pain to polyglot

@algorithmshark AH, I thought the base had to be ≤35

@ASCII-only O_o then how can I do python charcoal.py

@ASCII-only Isn't there an import for that?

1:35 AM
Huh
Has anyone else here played Portal 2?

@Downgoat what happens when you do python -V
also it probably doesn't break until you start giving it things to do (e.g. python charcoal.py -t)

Why is international shipping so friggin pricey?

@DownChristopher because air/sea shipping isn't cheap?

@algorithmshark Nine digit number with three chars: ^~9 (which is *⍨9 in APL)

1:37 AM
Also, are you planning on writing gitgoat for Android?

And ten digit number with three chars: 1e9

@ASCII-only Yeah but if I ship what I need to it would be $200 of the $600 I would make...

@DownChristopher $\LaTeX$ intended?

@ASCII-only can you change from /usr/bin/python3, do /usr/bin/env python3 for better cross-platform support

@Mendeleev yes?

1:41 AM

Oh no
I used the dollar sign to show price

oic
:36070133 ProTip: Use %20 to represent spaces in URLs

:P the url borked it

yeak I was telling you how to unbork it

@LegionMammal978 uh oh
thanks

1:44 AM
How did they even do this

@Mendeleev would you stop mentioning latex so much when people use dollar signs
it's your userscript

ehh

try to remember that
it's quite annoying at this point

@ATaco Please make the userscript use \$ instead of $
@Riker Actually ATaco wrote it

doesn't matter

1:45 AM
CMC: Given two numbers, Perform Binary Concatenation. For example, for 4 and 3, 4 = "100" 3 = "11" b_concat(4,3)="10011" to_dec = 19

@Mendeleev Pls no

@ASCII-only Why not/

My userscript is just an Interface for MathJax.

But doesn't the ChatJax userscript exist already

@ASCII-only He made it AFAIK

1:46 AM
There's a ChatJax Bookmarklet.
Which, although works, is rather inconvenient to use.

there's a chrome extension also

@ASCII-only : Colorize/bold the prompt for Charcoal>

@ATaco Javascript (ES6), 42 bytes: (a,b)=>+('0b'+a.toString(2)+b.toString(2))

@ASCII-only btw in REPL arrow keys don't work along with CTRL-A and CTRL-E
@ASCII-only ^C seems to quit Charcoal not clean canvas

@Downgoat D: arrow keys don't work?

1:49 AM
no D:
Charcoal> ⁷
-------
Charcoal> ↙³
-------/
      /
     /
omg this is so cool 14/10

lol

@Downgoat what color

14 is a bit arbitrary
why 14?

@Downgoat ong that's my favorite ubuntu version /s

@ASCII-only I think gray/white since Charcoal

1:51 AM
hot pink or teal
or both

@Riker that is as high as >10, out of ten ratings go

Is there a tag for operations on lists?

Interestingly, this can be solved as $f(x,y) = x*2^{\log_2y}+y$

@ASCII-only D: charcoal I think broke

@Riker I like bright orange

1:58 AM
@Downgoat oh no what did you do

I do math and no output :(
Charcoal> |ײ²
this only output a |
also how to I change the location which it draws from

@Downgoat you need ¦ between the 2's otherwise it goes "ono downgoat y u no tell me what to add 22 to"
@Downgoat Location?
