9:08 AM
once again I snatch victory from the jaws of defeat
in Town of salem
oh right arso is immune at night
fuck
game ended up in draw cos arso burned themselves too... XD

wat
9:23 AM
@Pavel have you tried GNOME yet?

Hey

wat
yo

9:49 AM
well apparently i (and a couple of my friends) are better than year 11s at programming

@Qwerp-Derp how so?
well, a lot of year 11s don't program huh?

@DestructibleWatermelon I'm not sure what you meant in your comment about the bot loader

For you Americans out there Year 11s = juniors
Yup
So we suggested our idea of a "programming club" in our school to a teacher

well, you shorten the names list to 4 names iff there are enough bots to be found to fill the order

and the teacher took a look at our code
and he was like "you could teach the year 11s a thing or two"

9:51 AM
Most of the year 11s I know were crap at programming (15-16 years old)
Oh yeah
That's a bug
Probably because I was only ever testing it with 4 bots

was kind of weird
also I kind of wanted your help on how to use import lib

But then again, not every year 11er does programming

I'll make it so if the num_bots is 0, it uses all, otherwise cuts properly
Ok
@DestructibleWatermelon what do you want help with?

I'm year 11 hey

Most people in my computer science class are bad at programming

9:56 AM
Is year 11 != grade 10?

I know maybe 5 decent programmers out of our school's 90
Year 11 is people aged 15-16

5 mins ago, by Qwerp-Derp
For you Americans out there Year 11s = juniors

@muddyfish That must be grade 10 I guess
@betseg I don't know what's a junior

@KritixiLithos oh

@DestructibleWatermelon you wanted help?

9:58 AM
well, kinda playing a game right now hah

I'll have to go and get up soonish

but yeah, kind of confused at that

If you're importing from a package like I am, you have to import the base package before any importing with import lib
See I have a random import bots that isn't used at the top of the file

@betseg I think I'm also year 11

For some reason there's just like quite a big group in our year that knows how to program

10:01 AM
What year are you, if you don't mind me asking?

Like around 10 - 15
Uhh year 9

@muddyfish so, bots is a folder with the bots in?
can you post how the folders are laid out?

I think my year in general is better at school than the year above me, though that might be because I've been exposed to lots of clever people in our year and most of the not clever people are obvious
@DestructibleWatermelon yes
It needs an __init__.py to

ok then. please do a nice graphic of the file layout

It's in the github repo

10:04 AM
oh

Or it should be
The koth should pretty much be completely working

I'm not really waiting for anything to post it now

ok cool
will work on that soon

I don't know what that means

10:09 AM
wikipedia is your friend
In game theory and economic theory, a zero-sum game is a mathematical representation of a situation in which each participant's gain or loss of utility is exactly balanced by the losses or gains of the utility of the other participants. If the total gains of the participants are added up and the total losses are subtracted, they will sum to zero. Thus, cutting a cake, where taking a larger piece reduces the amount of cake available for others, is a zero-sum game if all participants value each unit of cake equally (see marginal utility). In contrast, non-zero-sum describes a situation in which the...
@muddyfish how do you get the classes from each file?

@muddyfish How do you know that are you secretly an Aussie

10:45 AM
@DestructibleWatermelon I iterate over the module's __dict__ attribute and find an object that inherits from BotSkeleton but isn't BotSkeleton. See find_bot
@Qwerp-Derp I don't know because I'm not

Dammit I need to format the question properly
*How do you know that, are you secretly an Aussie?

@Qwerp-Derp that's how it is in the UK

@muddyfish Oh

Q: yes is 91 lines long

Ramon Sniryes, from coreutils, is 91 lines long. Many of them are comments, but that is still WAY too long. Write a program that imitates yes: outputting to stdout an infinite stream of "y\n"'s there must be an option to stop it other than killing the process with SIGKILL: but SIGINT and SIGPIPE are fin...

It's 128 now

12:06 PM
we need a lang called unicode where thousands of builtins are connected to each unicode character

When translated to machine code what is the difference between if(a)b(c);else b(d); and b(a?c:d);?
I can assemble it but I can't understand ;_;

12:31 PM
@betseg The ternary is shorter but both uses the same number of branches
But I'm not an assembly expert so I may be wrong

12:41 PM
@MatthewRoh I actually mentioned that before. Call it builtin

@betseg If your compiler optimize (-O options), the code produced will be the same
otherwise, they probably wont be the same (they will be quite literal translations of your C code)
But try it! gcc -S will generate the assembly. choose a simple example and it will be quite readable
(if you have ever seen some assembly, otherwise it might not be that easy to read)

We are on an esolang site, so assembly should be more than easy to understand for everyone on this site

12:57 PM
Well, easier as a function of time spent here

1:10 PM
@Dada that was what I meant with "I can assemble"

Ups, I may have skip that sentence
compile the two examples with gcc -O3 -fno-inline, chances are that the two assembly files will be the same (so no need to understand them)

I'm mobile now, I'll try later, thanks

1:41 PM
TIL (while looking at assembly files) if printf() is called with a single char it acts like putchar();

1:58 PM
2
On Windows there's also a difference between printf(_s) and wsprintf. While the former follows the mess above and requires a c runtime (w/ security cookies) to be linked, the latter is a singular WinAPI call that can be done in one line without any syscalls or external runtimes. Only caveat is it doesn't support floating point data.

1 hour later…
3:25 PM
@Sherlock9 awesome :D

3:56 PM
Fun fact: 17843 is the least positive number not in the main page of an OEIS sequence (and -709 is the greatest negative number meeting that criterion)

What is the least number that doesn't appear anywhere in OEIS?

@flawr Impossible for me to test, due to the impracticality of downloading every b-file

@LegionMammal978 Is there no way to download the whole OEIS database?

4:11 PM
@flawr You can download the main entries
But there's several gigabytes' worth of b-files
(Which is pretty interesting, considering they're entirely textual)

Q: Wifi Puzzle, crack the router!

jyoti proySITUATION Consider that you have three wifi routers in your home , all with different SSIDs and none of them are dualband. You have invited a mischievous friend to your home who had changed the password of each router, without letting you know about it. Now to annoy you more he has set up a prog...

5:39 PM
What?
I don't even have that much memory installed. Makes me wonder what happens if it tries to allocate that...

What on earth
Looks like there's an extension to get rid of the new Github top bar but unfortunately there's still a flash when you load the page

The answer is: Yes it does try to allocate that. Which results in heavy swapping on the host side :(
@quartata I only dislike the bar because it shows me how bad the viewing angles on my laptop screen are.

6:09 PM
@quartata ewwww wtf did github do

Uh, what changed? I don't notice anything different.

@Doorknob the topbar is black

Oh, I see. I have a dark theme already, so nothing changed for me.
@ConorO'Brien Thanks for the circle; wouldn't have seen it otherwise :P

my circles are like spotlights, thank you very much :p

6:17 PM
read your notifications ffs
makes me mad

I'm in the process of
for example, I see you added subscripts for the input in brachylog :P

A bugged implementation, but yes
When fixing github issues, I introduce other issues

Apparently questions about gardening are on topic now

Obviously
If questions about gardening get closed, where does it stop?

6:32 PM
@muddyfish That's odd since the questions in the tour page are actual questions that can be set by the moderators.
usually

Yeah, an answer to the old one got deleted, causing it to no longer be a valid candidate, which made the example question reset to the default one.
Anyway, chose one that looks okay.

@Doorknob but unicorns?

@Pavel Because strings are immutable, so it recreates the string each time, allocating memory for it. For performance, it's better to use a StringBuilder or a list of characters.

Wait, it changed

6:49 PM
Just barely though

Anonymous
I should rep-farm harder

sees LeakyNun still on the first page -.-

@Fatalize Nice, congrats!

(Not sure why, but here it goes)

the video's volume is a little on the low side

@muddyfish where do you see gardening on the front page?
nvm it got fixed, just looked at the transcript

@ConorO'Brien Yeah I don't have a great mic

ah. great vid btw :D

If I make it louder there's lots of noise

8:25 PM
@Fatalize You can send me the audio file for cleanup if you want.

@mınxomaτ Thanks, but I'm not intending to make loads of these. Wouldn't want to make people work for such low-effort content :p

I will try something anyway because I'm bored.

(I don't even have an audio file, because I recorded both the video and the audio simultaneously with the crappy windows 10 built-in recorder)

I'm just fetching the audio stream from YT.

what did you use for screen recording?

8:31 PM
When the Xbox app is open, win+g launches the recording thing
(just noticed I pronounced both Zee and Zed in the span of 10 mins -.-)

Please tell me that is a psBattle response?
@anyone how do I test retina? code
locally
I have the interpreter
how to enable \n end of line encoding in notepad ++

@Fatalize That's about 70% as good as I can get it: instaud.io/LiC

@RohanJhunjhunwala No, that's a real thing on /r/pics

8:44 PM
@mınxomaτ that's an awesome job

@Pavel wow!
is there anyone who can help me run retina?
I think TIO is down. RIP

`Settings -> Preferences -> New Document/Default Directory
-> New Document -> Format -> Windows/Mac/Unix`

@Pavel thanks.

@ConorO'Brien Considering the input PSNR is within 2dB yeah. But far from perfect.

Alright, everything should be back to normal.

@Pavel thanks

@mınxomaτ Reassuring that the person working on the PPCG podcast is actually talented at audio tinkering :)

For comparison: Here's me rambling into a $15 mic for an audio test for a recent webinar: instaud.io/LiL

Is there a way to list the rooms that I created?

Yes, they are on you profile page: chat.stackexchange.com/users/207690/betseg

Don't you have it when you sit down to read a few webcomics and program
Then you read 2 years of foxtrot

@flawr It appears to be a small white square. Try an imgur link?

@Pavel And when you click it? (or refresh the chat?)

Works for me
@flawr place #1 on top of #3 so that they form a rectangle, leave #2 sticking out of the middle

@flawr Slightly larger checker pattern.
Ooh, now it's giving the 'could not load image' icon.

10:41 PM
@JanDvorak Is not symmetrical.

Sure is. You need to leave the flat bit sticking out.

@JanDvorak Is this what you have in mind?

No.

I think it forms an L shape thing. Put piece 3 on piece 1 (the B sides) and then piece 2 on piece 3 on the F sides

@flawr move #1 down a bit from the proposed position so that it overlaps with the remaining two.

@JanDvorak Overlapping is not allowed -_-

Hey, you didn't say that!

No but that is part of the standard loopholes with this kind of puzzles.

10:46 PM
I don't see a meta post with floating rankings

@DJMcMayhem I had made a pull request for SILOS too about a couple months ago, he jus tmerged it today
