@Sherlock9 yes

@himarmjr What's with your username?

DJMcMayhemI just watched "The Force Awakens", and have been obsessively reading through all questions tagged with it for the past couple days. American English, also called United States English or U.S. English, is the set of varieties of the English language native to the United States. English is the most widely spoken language in the United States and is the common language used by the federal government, considered the de facto language of the country because of its widespread use. English has been given official status by 32 of the 50 state governments. As an example, while both Spanish and English have equivalent status in the local courts of Puerto Rico, under federal law, English is the official language for any matters being...

Q: root folder access

Jodamo117When I open my computer folder (the one below network and above optical drive if that helps) in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS I find a button up top next to the < and > and before the home button. When I open it I find all my folders. One of these is titled "root" and has an x in the bottom right of the folde...

xD

We’re going to build a wall. It’s going to be built. It’s not even - believe it or not - it’s not even a difficult thing to do. 10 feet of concrete around the chat sandbox. It will be beautiful. And no more chat spam. We'll throw Tux over the wall and - the thing about Tux, they're not sending their best messages - they're sending the emoji, the pings, the disapproval faces - and some of those messages are good, I assume. We'll build that Sandbox wall and we'll make Tux pay for it.

@MartinEnder Do you think it would be OK if I cracked the Retina answer with a regex that theoretically wouldn't work for, say, numbers larger than a 64-bit integer?

@Sherlock9 TS

@feersum I don't think my answer works for that either, because .NET strings can't be that big. the challenge says it has to work for all values listed on OEIS, so up to 10k or something.

@TùxCräftîñg Sorry. I'm trying to make a silly Trump-esque joke

@Dennis I'm having trouble making the donation with PayPal. The error message is not very explicit: "No podemos enviar el pago en este momento. Si este problema se repite, ponte en contacto con PayPal." I tried with EUR and USD. Do I need to set a specific currency?
Also, under "Enviar y solicitar dinero" I'm not sure what the right option is: "Enviar dinero a amigos y familiares" or "Pagar productos y servicios". I'm trying the first one

All right I'll post it then.

definitely curious what you've got though, because my own shorter solution doesn't have any problems the current doesn't

The regex engine was being all uncooperative so I tried replacing + with {99}

@zyabin101 Oh heck, that's another war

@Dennis @Downgoat Why doesn't this work? I copied it from my cmd

@zyabin101 "ess-ee" Vowel sound, so it's an SE chat

3:19 PM
@LuisMendo Currency shouldn't matter (though EUR is preferred), and Friends & Family should work. No idea what's going on. Maybe @Lynn can help. Her donation got through.
@LeakyNun I don't know Cheddar, sorry.

@LeakyNun looks like a gaot-side error to me

@Dennis the problem is, it works on my cmd, but not on TIO; it's not a problem of whether you know Cheddar

@LuisMendo I used the “friends and family” option, and donated in EUR

From PayPal balance or bank/CC? That might matter.

@Dennis Is there an option for "website costs"? XD

3:23 PM
@LeakyNun I don't know Node/JavaScript either. I ran the command Downgoat told me to run, created the wrapper(s) he told me to create and set up the conf file. There's nothing I could have done to cause this problem, and nothing I could do to fix it.

@feersum does {2,} work?

@MartinEnder lol apparently
.NET = devil regex engine

I had this:
.+
$*
^((^.|\3)(\1)|){2,}$
I'll update the post in a bit

ECMAScript regex is worse

Does someone here know Footguy?

3:26 PM
it dont have lookbehind

@Dennis Oh, er, it was via my bank, I believe

Should have worked for Luis as well then (PayPal balance lets you do things or funding options can't). Dammit PayPal, why do you have to make this stuff so hard?

Ah, does someone here know this?

@Dennis Where can I see your wrapper or the other things?
Also, I highly suspect that it is compatibility problem.
Can you check your node version by doing node --version?

3:30 PM
Somewhere in the transcript.

Mine is v6.3.1

You don't have the file that is causing the error. It's in the wrapper.

I mean, maybe the node in your wrapper is in the wrong version
Also, where can I see the wrapper?

2 mins ago, by Dennis
Somewhere in the transcript.

What is the transcript?

3:34 PM
The transcript of this chat room. Downgoat posted it here.

So I can only see the clone of the wrapper but not the actual wrapper?
I always wonder where the codes actually are
Like, where is the actual code to run the programs?

20 hours ago, by Downgoat
#!/usr/bin/env node
var cheddar = require('cheddar-lang');
var api = cheddar.stdlib;

// Enable Cheddar safe mode
global.SAFE_MODE = true;

// Get the default return
var res = cheddar(process.argv[2], {
    PRINT: process.stdout.write.bind(process.stdout)
});

// Check if function was returned
if (res instanceof api.func) {
    var args = process.argv.slice(3).map(function(arg) {
        // Convert it to a Cheddar string
        var str = api.init(api.string, arg);

        // Attempt to convert to number

I know, but this is not the actual wrapper that TIO uses
in the sense that TIO uses a copy of this wrapper

@Dennis Will there ever be an option to see how long TIO is currently funded for? (Other than asking you in chat)

Like, where is the code for running brainfuck.TIO located?

@TùxCräftîñg that doesn't really answer the question github.com/DennisMitchell/tryitonline/blob/master/bin/brainfuck

@Dennis @Lynn Thanks for your comments. I used EUR, F&F, via card. I'll try again later, and maybe change to via bank account if it still doesn't work

There's always a mysterious /opt/ folder

@DJMcMayhem Sure. The nice thing about BTC is that you don't have to take my word for it. :P
3
@LeakyNun Yeah, I mean to clone that too. I'll have to check first if it doesn't contain sensitive information though.

Exactly, the github is just a clone of the actual code
where on earth is the actual code located?

3:40 PM
On the server/various places on github.

@DJMcMayhem the github code is not the actual code being run
and I can't find it on the server
although it must be on the server

@LeakyNun I know. Not all I of the languages have public source code. Some of them link to github pages, but not all of them

@DJMcMayhem no, it is impossible to run the code on github
there must be a clone

Since brainfuck links to esolangs, I have no idea what interpreter is used/who wrote it.

@DJMcMayhem that is a wiki page that cannot possibly contain the code

3:42 PM
The clone is on the server.

@LeakyNun On my server. I hope you're not asking for direct read access, because that's not going to happen.

@Dennis is it in plaintext?
so it's on the server somewhere which we cannot see?

Some languages are interpreted, others are compiled.

Heck, I'm having a fun time deciphering this view-source:http://brainfuck.tryitonline.net/

So basically, no one knows Footguy and has his attention on me.

3:45 PM
@zyabin101 footguy?

@Dennis what is the fun in asking you for direct read access?

@TùxCräftîñg waste.org/footguy

> NOTE: This page is Netscape-Enhanced. You must have Netscape Navigator 1.1 or better to hang ten here. For the best results, make sure that you set your Options | Preferences | Cache and Network | Verify Documents to Once per Session.
this site come from paleolithic

But I think you should be able to telnet to waste.org as user footguy to see Footguy.
For me, on Android, an easier way is the open source Footguy widget.

@LeakyNun I'm not sure what you're getting at anymore.

3:47 PM
$ telnet
bash: telnet: command not found

@TùxCräftîñg Download PuTTY instead. :P

@Dennis Alright, so it isn't your fault, but the fault of the wrapper

@TùxCräftîñg is this linux or windows?

3:48 PM
@himarmjr windows with git

16 hours ago, by Downgoat
@Dennis can you replace cheddar wrapper with this:
@TùxCräftîñg telnet doesn't work on windows iirc

@himarmjr I know, I'm looking into the wrapper

i know ssh doesn't
@LeakyNun i meant it's the gaot's fault
(cc @Downgoat)

@himarmjr I know
@Dennis I'm just curious, how do you actually put something on the server but hide it from public view?

@LeakyNun Are you implying you plan on hacking into TIO to get read access?

3:51 PM
Does it have a URL?
What happens when you type that URL?
@DJMcMayhem I never said that

Probably "permission denied"

you implied that

@TùxCräftîñg implication is subjective

@LeakyNun I know, but that's what it sounded like you were implying
Also, ninja'd

19 secs ago, by Leaky Nun
@TùxCräftîñg implication is subjective

3:52 PM
@LeakyNun That's why they're asking :-)

Inferring implication generally leads to trouble...

That's why I asked you.

Just going by what was said is literally the best thing to do

I wanted to know if you intended to imply it or not

3:53 PM
I'm not responsible to feed your curiosity

I never said your were, but I prefer to think highly of people, so when they say something suspicious, I like to know what they meant.

4:12 PM
@LuisMendo PayPal likes being weird sometimes. I've made purchases on eBay that would let me use one funding option but not another. If it completely refuses to play ball and it's OK with you, you could always send me an email and I'll respond with my bank details for a pain-free SEPA transfer.

4:42 PM
@feersum as for why it works: all regex engines have an optimisation that they don't attempt more empty matches in a quantifier than they have to. if you have (...){4,8} the regex engine will stop trying further repetitions when four iterations were empty. this is necessary to prevent * and + from going into infinite loops all the time. (the notable exception is * which still requires one empty match to abort.)
the basic assumption is that if backtracking forced the last repetition to be empty, future repetition will necessarily be empty as well, because the cursor is still in the same position. of course that's not an entirely valid assumption for modern regex where the global state also depends on captures, which may change without advancing the regex engine's cursor.

@Dennis I was going to ask you precisely that. I'm new to PayPal and I'd feel more comfortable with an ordinary bank transfer. I'll send you an email to server-costs@tryitonline.net

5:01 PM

@LeakyNun Less than a year? Dunno. It doesn't hurt to include the links though. We get lots of visits from the HNQ, and newcomers are most likely not going to know the language. GolfScript on the other hand was being used on SO, and is actually older than SO itself.

5:33 PM
Also, I desperately need help with creating a logo. I am really bad at this.

@Dennis TODO: Recover my account or get a new one, and make and subscribe to this feed.
Why does SE lower case tags? :|

I'm guessing they didn't have your use case in mind ;)
@Dennis Do you have any requirements for your logo? Display sizes/complexity/likes/dislikes?
I don't have any logo making skills but I thought narrowing it down might help with a collaborative effort

@trichoplax Preferably square (can be used as favicon, profile pics/avatars, etc.), and something that blends in with the TIO header (bg color #404040). Apart from that, I'm open to suggestions.

Also, do you have a shortened URL the same length as the original address?

Good, I registered on Twitter under the username @AndrewZyabin2036, now battling Twitter's frontier of unfollowing.

5:39 PM
@trichoplax Not sure I follow.

Both 15 bytes :)

Oh, for twitter. I guess I do now. ;) I really don't know what I'm doing. Literally haven't used Twitter before yesterday.

I don't know Twitter at all, so you're already ahead of me...

Twitter added 21 following to my account to fill my feed with lots of things I don't want to see. Never.

5:44 PM
@TùxCräftîñg I might need a better front page.

My account got locked.

@zyabin101 wut

@TùxCräftîñg My twitter was locked because of my actions being detected as "automated".

ಠ_ಠ

I can never access Twitter again.
I just, at a slow rate, slowly unfollowed feeds.
Not slow enough.

5:48 PM
Twitter doesn't start you following anything
So you probably accidentally followed 21 recommended feeds in 2 minutes

> accidentaly

@quartata Yup.

how it's possible to accidentaly follow 21 feeds in 2 minutes

@TùxCräftîñg I probably run the tutorial.
A GNU social instance is even better than Twitter. It's open source, you can run your own, it doesn't have a tutorial nor account locks for "automated" actions.

Does no good if nobody uses it though.

5:57 PM
For example, I found a public server at quitter.se.
And here's my account: quitter.se/zyabin101

I still can't even comprehend how you could have possibly done this

@zyabin101 Yeah, mine got locked about 3 minutes after creating it. Had to give them my phone number to unlock it.

What's happens if panorama mode goes wrong.

5:59 PM
@Dennis Detected not a real person here?

@mınxomaτ ._.

I suppose. I didn't follow anybody and skipped over all the bio details.

@Dennis should it have TIO on it or should it just be a picture icon kinda thing?

@βετѧΛєҫαγ New server is 89.107.184.88, username is wa4377f1. Password is the same. Your content will appear here: labs.turbo.run/beta

@Downgoat I was thinking either the characters Tio! stylized somehow, a gear or something that indicades a REPL (>>> perhaps). I'm really bad at this though. TIO white on TIO gray would be nice though.

6:12 PM
</> has become a universal symbol of "code" perhaps that?

</TIO>

Eh, to HTMLy.

@Dennis I'm decent at logos. I think white on negative transparency would do fine--in case you ever change your background

@Dennis What colour code is TIO white?

For the site, sure. For avatars etc., white on transparent would look weird though. I guess inverting the colors would also be an option.
@trichoplax #f0f0f0

6:16 PM
TBH I like the plaintext. why do you need a logo?

What about Ti*! (a gear instead of the o, but not an asterisk that's just to show the idea)

not a bad idea

Nice. Maybe in a grid because square shape.
@ConorO'Brien Favicon, Twitter, profile pics on crowdfunding sites and whatnot.

ohh I see

I think I can GIMP together the logo, but I was lacking ideas. I like to Ti*! one.

6:20 PM
what does "counted with multiplicity" mean?

In what context?

a math one

Often multiplicity is like, how often a thing occurs.
That’s still vague.

oh, that helps ^^ I think I get it now

I’m guessing it’s either polynomial roots or prime factors?

6:21 PM
the latter

Ah, okay~

@mınxomaτ Strange cats you got there.

it's beautiful, I love it. Every aspect of it is glorious. it's perfect IMO

don't like the orange, it could be something else
@ConorO'Brien are you talking about logo or previous conversation?

6:31 PM
@Downgoat the logo. I copy+pasted my response in the other room here :p

@Downgoat I was trying to think what image could represent "online" - the cloud is a nice approach

I feel like the gears are a bit too “busy”?
But the cloud + arrows look great °w°

Just curious, what are the arrows supposed to mean?

@Downgoat also, it's pretty clear you just got some gear clipart and pasted it in :p I'd rather have circular border around them than the square one

@ConorO'Brien yes it's from wikipedia
idk how to make gear

6:34 PM
just copy the gear and trim a circle around it

Whoa, make targets tab-complete in Ubuntu

@Dennis represents data flow, movement.

The arrows are, like, speed/stuff being processed, I imagine?

That's cool

why don't I send SVG? i gtg for a bit

6:35 PM
ok

@Downgoat See? I'm bad at this. :P Maybe a cloud without gears and use a instead of the o like trichoplax suggested?

The font broke for me ;-;

me too

This is awful. If “I can’t talk” is “I (can not) talk”, why is “I mustn’t talk” then “I must (not talk)”?! Gah.

English is awful :p

I always thought it was weird how must not means forbidden and not have to means not required, while must and have to mean the same thing.
Spanish has the same quirk.

I suppose that lessens the crime
let's all just learn lojban haha

6:42 PM
je'e
In Dutch moet niet expresses a non-requirement instead of a prohibition. Probably why I tripped up

Although it's unusual, I think you can get away with "have to not", which aligns with "must not". There just isn't a "not must" to go with "not have to"
I agree though. English is a bundle of exceptions and poor excuses

@Lynn huh, i thought i embedded it

Written English could do with lots of parentheses to indicate grouping. No idea how to fix spoken English

@Dennis ok, I'll try that
