A: Let's think of a creative name for our chatroom

dmckeeWell, the traditional generic name for the country club bar is "the nineteenth hole", which suggests The Nineteenth Byte or something like that.

@Harry The "nineteenth hole" on many/most golf courses is the local bar.

Wow real life...
I've never even seen a golf course

Where do you live? (What country?)

They're overrated. Golf is frustrating.

England

5:03 PM
There are golf courses everywhere in England

honestly going out looking for golf courses has never been a hobby of mine

It's not mine either
I know of at least 4

Oh yeah Dr Green I read the old V chat and instead of trying to learn vim and v i made the an installer for Ubuntu systems for V.
Ima go looking for some tommorow

Really? That's awesome!
May I see it?

It's in bash
Its giving me no bugs on my end and shell check online tool thing returns no errors

5:05 PM
That's so cool, thankyou!

I made it shred itself so to not have it run multiple times and mess with bashrc by continuously appending that stuff

Does it also define "NVIM_LISTEN_ADDRESS" and "V"?

Well it sets V equal to the directory the script is in, I assumed it it was used it would be in the zip with the other files so the path to it is set accurately
and NVIM_LISTEN_ADDRESS stays as tmp/nvim as it is on your install wiki thing

That's really cool, I appreciate it!

Aaaaa I wish I didn’t have a gold badge

5:11 PM
Haha your welcome, I really enjoyed failing at trying to learn V so it was my pleasure

I keep wanting to vote to close things as duplicate, but I don’t feel like a good authority on that kind of thing ._.;

@Lynn You do have ? :D

Could I put it on the github page? If you'd like your name on it, you could do a pull request.
@Harry Also, if you ever have any V questions, I'd happily answer them. It is a little confusing to learn.

Nah you can take it but if you wouldnt mind could you leave the author comment in

You have an identifier on some P2P network? :O

@Harry Sure, I can do that. Thanks again!

You should run it with sudo ./INSTALL and make sure its 775 {executable} or it will act weird
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 no its just my gpg key's fingerprint

5:15 PM
@Harry Ah.
@Harry You won't say your identifier GPG key finger print again? D:

what do you mean?

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 Huh?

@Lynn Gold badge for tag .
You do have gold badge for tag [code-golf]? :D

Yep, I do. And I got Populist too, recently!

So you now have to brag something on and also wield the mighty Mjollnir, the High-Rep Hammer! :)

5:21 PM
Oh, speaking of gold badges, I got Electorate on PPCG yesterday. :D
@Valorum No, we speak a fork of British English. We needed to improve on it, but you guys wouldn't pull our change requests. — jpmc26 15 hours ago

Speaking of gold badges, I have one on the entire network. And guess what, it's for PPCG question Does the water ultimately reach the tank?.
Which is my only not deleted PPCG question.

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 your profile says the only gold badge you have is Fanatic...

No, your gold badge is a Fanatic badge, which is obtained by visiting the... ah, ninja'd

also nice question isn't even a gold badge

I forgot ._.
I have my badge memory shuffled XXP

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 you know nice is not gold worthy, right?

Great Questions is gold, but it requires a score of +100.

@Dennis Would have beat me if you hadn't written your twice

lol, moe abuse.

It's not abuse if I don't wait 2 minutes. Also, poor Moe.

then what are you waiting for?
@Dennis you know moe is not a person, right?

Well, he's an animated character.

5:36 PM
moe is a slang referring to a genre for animes containing cute characters

anyone know how to insert images in the chat ?

please dont upload selfies

Oh yeah btw @DrGreenEggsandIronMan I forgot to tell you i put the trap vinstaller EXIT line in there so as to stop the user interrupting the installs and cleanup process to make the script just a bit safer to use

5:39 PM
@Optimizer So moe abuse is related to @Lynn ?

This is only a notation that has the overlayed accents on the right of the initial letter.
Also, it fits in standard ASCII.
So it will work with any encoding, in any lang.
Because every lang has ASCII, huh?

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 I think she means that posting walls of text is annoying, so stop please

Don't worry, that'll be the final version in chat. I'm starting to write a challenge to create Vietnamese syllawords.

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 perhaps make another room for this?

Yep. (You can always link to a pastebin, or something!)

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 can I ask, what is a syllaword?

Perhaps it's a word that is written sillily.

Somehow.

@Quill are you familiar with benchmark testing with node?

@Harry I added a little explanation!

@Downgoat Why?
Alright, now, the challenge about Vietnamese syllables will be posted by New Sandboxed Posts.

@Lynn Yeah the graph O((2n)!²) gets real big real fast so I can see why the tryitonline site just killed the script before even getting anywhere for n=5

The wikipedia page on "lol" is hilarious
LOL or lol, an acronym for laugh(ing) out loud, or lots of laughs, is a popular element of Internet slang. It was first used almost exclusively on Usenet, but has since become widespread in other forms of computer-mediated communication and even face-to-face communication. It is one of many initialisms for expressing bodily reactions, in particular laughter, as text, including initialisms for more emphatic expressions of laughter such as LMAO ("laugh(ing) my ass off") and ROFL (or its older form ROTFL; "roll(ing) on the floor laughing"). Other unrelated expansions include the now mostly obsolete...

@Downgoat Are object fully setup?

@Bálint meaning?

@Downgoat Can you create objects?

@Bálint what is an object? A class? Hashmap?

@Downgoat A class
Can you use classes?

to both: yes, you can
writing docs on them rn

9:05 PM
BTW, how do you plan to create the standard libraries? Do you create them with cheddar like java does or do you define them inside the interpreter like javascript?
@Downgoat

@Bálint a mix of both. creating standard libraries in cheddar would require creating some JS hooks for Cheddar, which I'm debating whether or not to do.

wow
this sounds like the birth of a new language?

@busukxuan No, it's essentially usable in it's current state

oh

But it's currently in developement

9:07 PM
may i have a look?

thx~

@Bálint starting at v0.2-alpha, the language is turing complete and rather usable at v1.0.0 (which is in beta). Though it's not that full-featured atm

@Downgoat you might not need to make the js hooks an explicit part of cheddar

9:10 PM
@Maltysen why the double ping? :P

define some parts of the stdlib in js, and then define the interface and other parts of it around it in cheddar
@Downgoat whoops

@Maltysen ok, yeah, that's what I was planning

@Downgoat Technically, if it has an array, then it's turing complete

C does this, since printf,etc. are defined in c

I haven't designed a module system yet though >_> (though I don't need one, but it'll be nicer if I do)

9:11 PM
Wow, I just had an idea, let's make an esolang with only arrays

you only need to provide a machine code implementation for certain functions

@Bálint BF?

@Balint that sounds like an array programming language
Like... make an esoteric version of MATLAB?

9:32 PM
@quartata "goat simulator"?

@busukxuan Does MATL qualify as esoteric? :-)

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Yes except it segfaults

@Quill @CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ @anyoneInterestedInDevelopingCheddarLibraries I've finally written docs on how Cheddar works, and how to develop libraries/the standard library. You can see them here

9:35 PM
@Downgoat going the python route on constructors, i see :D

@Maltysen ?

@Downgoat self

@Maltysen python has on meaning of self, it's just what most people use. I got it from swift
I am very offended you're comparing cheddar to python

No wonder Valgrind wasn't working. I assumed that the file in question that would be executed was the bash script in the install dir called "GoatSimulator" but as it turns out it skips that and goes right to the binary

@Downgoat also the whole thing of init being a function returning the instance

9:37 PM
Gets right to the point I suppose

@Maltysen where did you get that idea? It's not like that in cheddar?
initalization is:

@Downgoat also, wtf is that initilization syntax
>Run the initializer (init) and pass the instance as "self".
Return the instance.

class adder(Number: a, Number: b) {
    main {
         this.value = a + b;
    }
}
@Maltysen oh
that is talking about the internal behavior
internally the initalizer is stored as an init() function

Any easy solution to combine a big number of images (all exact same size) to a pdf?

@Maltysen pls reccomend better on then
(I'm not doing new foo())

9:39 PM
how bout just MyClass.init()?

@flawr like in a grid?
@Maltysen what if I had a static method on MyClass named init?

anddd just started a fork bomb

@Downgoat Ah, no I mean every image one page.

@Downgoat fine do like MyClass()
idk, but your current thing looks very weird

@Maltysen that looks too implicit.

9:41 PM
@Downgoat also, is main the name for constructors?

@flawr does this help?
@Maltysen no

@flawr Are they already pdf? Then GhostScript can do that (programmatically)

i could also declare a function named main:

@Downgoat what is then?

class A{
     main { asdfjasdfjasdf }
     main() {
        sdfahsdjfkhalsdkf
     }
}

9:42 PM
@flawr imagemagick convert
and pdfunite

@Maltysen constructors are not visible in Cheddar, they can only be accessed internally

@Downgoat i don't get it, how do i make code run when instance created

Hello @Geobits and @El'endiaStarman

@LuisMendo No they are jpgs.

@Maltysen what was unclear?

9:43 PM
@Downgoat Hallo

@Maltysen what code?

@Maltysen Oh lets see, I've heard a lot of that.

class A {
    main {
        print "HELLO I AM HERE"
    }
}

A{} // prints HELLO I AM HERE

@Downgoat Thanks, unfortunately I have an older windows

oh so, main is the initializer

9:44 PM
:(
@Maltysen yeah. should I change the name? maybe to like init?

@flawr oh windows, nvm on pdfunite then
@Downgoat java uses the name of the class, but i'm not sure you want to do anything like java

@Maltysen oh god no why

@mınxomaτ You're right, pretty epic. Could almost mistake it for a video game trailer in the first half minute or so.

"this mouse pad does not scratch". I scratched it with a cardboard box ._.

@Downgoat init sounds good

9:48 PM
ok brb changing
changed

@Downgoat just to clarify how things work, in your example, "whatIsSelf" is part of the class scope right? and when you instantiate, it gets copied to instance scope and when run is run with itself passed to it (as self)?

@Maltysen yes

@Downgoat and this init that you just changed will also do the same thing where it gets copied from class to instance scope, but it is only ever run right after it is constructed?
@Downgoat in github example, class Animal(String: Name, Int: Age) { i am confused
does this mean that it on constructor sets self.Name = name and self Age = age?

@Maltysen wait what
if these is no init {}. Then one will be implicitly created.
in that case the implicitly created init would do self.Name = Name; self.Age = Age

k got it

9:54 PM
I'm almost done with Cheddar >_> any feature ideas?

@Downgoat what if someone does class Animal(String: Name, Int: Age) {init {stuff}}

@Maltysen then it will use the just run the initthing
e.g.

and will ignore the params to Animal?
or raise error

class Animal(String: Name, Int: Age) { init {} }
the above is the same as:
class Animal() { }
@Maltysen yes

that seems counter-intuitive and error-prone

9:55 PM
why?

i would suggest raising an error

@Maltysen it would be difficult to check that though

@Downgoat why? if len(params_to_class)>0 && class.scope.has(init) {raise Error("you stupid")}
^ basically

@Maltysen idk I'll consider it

@Downgoat or, you could go the coffescript route and allow init to take those params, and with some special syntax assign them to instance vars
like class Animal(init {<Name>, <Age>, normal_param} {})
^ (really bad special syntax)

9:58 PM
@Maltysen sorry what
maybe like:
class Animal(Name, @Age, IsGoat) {}

@Downgoat lel, coffeescript actually also uses @

where Age is implicitly assigned
O_O
