Q: Let's Play Simon Says!

jmasterxThis is not the same as Create a Simon Clone! because this is a simplified text version of Simon. Your goal is to make a simple stdin/stdout (or equivalent input/output) Simon clone. The buttons are represented by 0,1,2,3. The program works like this: main: start lives at 3 start number array ...

@NewMainPosts no

@Bas yes
I start. beep
I really need to do that in a bot sandbox.

Bas
@zyabin101 Okay. beep boop

crash

Bas
@zyabin101 I'm bad at this game

12:18 PM
@Lembik Hi?

Bas
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ hi, you're hard to ping. Everything after C breaks

@Bas Indeed. Just do @C + tab

Bas
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I wanted to change my name to C to prevent people from pinging you but then I remembered the 1 month namechange rule

XD. then it's just @C + tab * n

Q: Calculate the Kronecker Product

Stewie GriffinRelated, but very different. In the examples below, A and B will be 2-by-2 matrices, and the matrices are one-indexed. A Kronecker product has the following properties: A⊗B = A(1,1)*B A(1,2)*B A(2,1)*B A(2,2)*B = A(1,1)*B(1,1) A(1,1)*B(1,2) A(1,2)*B(1,1) A(1,2)*B(...

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ People are lazy and will eventually forget about you

@Bas Also, a name needs at least three chars.

Bas
@zyabin101 Damn. Rip evil master plan

@Bas ;)
I won't be so easily forgotten.

Bas
This keeps cracking me up

12:27 PM
@Sp3000 Hello!

@Bas The <center> cannot hold it is too late.
Damn very slow 'net connection!

@Sp3000 I haven't managed to write the matrix mult challenge
one question is should it be multiplication over the integers or something simpler?

12:46 PM
@Bas Reminds me of House of Leaves

I tried to install Anaconda (actually its small no-package niece Miniconda) and all I got was megabytes of disk space wasted. I am never able to use conda.
Now I have to reinstall Python FROM THE VERY BEGINNING (as I uninstalled the CPython distro for conda to be available from the system PATH, as a second variation) ;;;_;;;

1:06 PM
@Lembik Does it matter? Or is the answer somehow different if you work in, say, integers mod 2 or something?

1:30 PM
is there a good reason python uses __magic__ for their magic methods as opposed to just magic
a.add(b) is much more readable than a.__add__(b)

Since when did answers in Jelly become unpopular?

1:48 PM
@Sp3000 I think the answer might be the same but the code could be a lot faster. How are you going to search for solutions if you use integers?

Well the answer you get shouldn't really depend on the contents of the matrix, right? As in it should just give a list of intermediate steps and how to obtain each entry in the resulting matrix

@Sp3000 right but I am trying to imagine how you are going to solve the problem of finding the minimum number of multiplications
@Sp3000 do you have any ideas?

Not any good ones, no, but I was assuming that was part of the challenge :P

it is :)

I mean, in the worst case you could just brute force all possibilities for a solution
Obviously not the best way

1:52 PM
so one idea I have works mod 2 but not with integers
@Sp3000 how will you check a given solution is correct even if you use brute force?

As in that it's optimal or that it's a valid solution?

brute force is OK for small n :)
@Sp3000 that it's valid
basically.. what is a brute force solution?

i object

@Agawa001 ?

Check that it indeed outputs C_{1,1} = A_{1,1} B_{1,1} + A_{1,2} B_{2,1} etc

1:54 PM
bruteforce isnt ok unless for np hard problems

@Sp3000 but you can't check all A_{i,j} if it's allowed integer entries
that's the problem
you can if it's only allowed zeros and ones

Well you don't care about the actual values right? As in you don't sub A_{1,1} for a number, just treat it as A_{1,1}

@Sp3000 that sounds hard :)

I'm interested - if a Python install for Windows is repaired, will any packages installed before the repair remain?

Well you wanted a possible approach, and that's the only one I have in mind atm :P

1:56 PM
(Repairing an install is the Windows Installer's way of saying "to re-install".)

@Agawa001 It's good for checking your better approach is correct for at least small values though

@Sp3000 I like the idea but I am not sure how easy it would be to prove your solution is equivalent to A_{1,1} B_{1,1} + A_{1,2} B_{2,1} in code

\o/ @RenderSettings you're back!

without enumerating alll possible entries

@Sp3000 how ?

1:57 PM
Apparently not. Dam.

ah, make a comparative with the outlets of two approaches

@Lembik Er... maybe I'm not saying this clear enough. Imagine starting with 8 variables a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h and I define x = a(f-h), y = (a+b)h. Then it's pretty easy to check that x+y = af - ah + ah + bh = af + bh

@zyabin101 im always already back

He's always here

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Ah, you are back. Did you see the countdown I announced for Nested Programs?

2:05 PM
@Lembik Hmm maybe "8 symbols" is a bit clearer than "8 variables". But anyway for that example a is A_{1,1}, b is A_{1,2}, ... , e is B_{1,1}, ... , h is B_{2,2}

@Downgoat what?
I wasn't up then. ?

@RenderSettings Ikr.
Any news on Urbit?

@zyabin101 @ school atm
in class

@Sp3000 I think there must be something wrong with what you said but I am not sure what yet :)
it's that sort of thing I am talking about

Probably just some miscommunication going on here

2:13 PM
Most likely I am being dim
in any case.. I think it would make a nice challenge :)
if somewhat challenging challenge

ok, there are 6 equality operators, ==, !=, <, <=, >, >=

Would be an interesting challenge, yeah

however, they all have opposites

btw what I said was just saying it'd be easy to verify that a solution is correct, not that it helps at all in actually finding a solution (if that makes things any clearer)

so, == is the opposite of !=, and < is the opposite of >=
would it make sense to only have magic methods for ==, <, > and simply not the result?

2:17 PM
You could, which is why a lot of golfing langs only have < and >. But what's this for?

@Sp3000 thanks.. things are a little clearer
I still think mod 2 is easier :)

I'm not sure how it'd be any different, but okay...

so.. the question is do I have the time/energy to write the challenge! :)

:P if you do - and I don't usually say this - please do sandbox this one, since it's a bit too nice of a challenge to ruin
> I will arrange for an undergraduate to do the rest of the typing.
I like that paper you linked there

@Downgoat HAI
no "hai" back?
:(

2:35 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Downgoat shy confirmed.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ huh, I thouht I fixed that

maybe recopy the image link from the readme?

2:48 PM
needs to be travis-ci.org/cheddar-lang/Cheddar i think.

Yeah

@Sp3000 yes!

@Downgoat cheddar favicon?

@NewMainPosts Hi

@NewMainPosts Thank you for all your help.

2:52 PM
@NewMainPosts why no new post

@NewMainPosts do you like it when people ping you?

Does cheddar have a favicon?

2:57 PM
@Sp3000 feel free to steal the idea of course :) I am not sure I have the time in the near future to do a good job

Neither, tbh

:(
I wonder if the community would be happy to help make the question too
and not just answer it

I should be waist-deep in assignments atm, but I always seem to have time to stalk this chat

:)
setting and doing assignments?

@Sp3000 story of my life

No setting, just doing :P

ok :)

@Sp3000 I like chalking this stat.

XKCD, SE/SO and Wikipedia do though

Q: Set facing direction using commands?

BenIs there a way to set the direction you face when you set a new spawn or teleport to a new location? For example, if I create a notice board in the spawn location facing north, and every one keeps spawning facing east, there's a possibility they may not see the board. Or if I teleport to a new ...

3:53 PM
@epicTCK Danke schon.

Thank you in german
r u german?

i am russian

so niet
I only know two words in russian: the word for no, and the word for "cream of wheat"

4:15 PM

maybe that's why I have so many Russian views on my blog :P

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ ?
Analytics report, sometime maybe?

i like huskies

4:28 PM
I think I have one, one sec

I see.
Apparently, the country that views the blog the most is the United States. Russia is only second.
But it has a bit over 250 views. :-)

yeah ^_^ Russians like programming I guess

I'm also interested in the traffic that comes. Which sites refer to your blog?
Stack Exchange, and also?

4:35 PM
A custom domain, codingspecialty.cf
it's expiring soon

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Apparently you own two blogs.

one is a website

@Agawa001 One is a blog.
It's easy to find out that codingspecialty.cf embeds in itself a Blogger blog, codingspecialty.blogspot.<your national TLD>.
That's a... nice strategy.
So @CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ, when the .cf domain expires, you should redirect users to the site codingspecialty.blogspot.<user's national TLD>.

@zyabin101 blogs are of the fom www.blog.com/myblog, whereas hosted blogs as myblog.blog.com (attached websites) are quasi independant because they are located in different server of the site

I'm confused

4:41 PM
and one must purchase it
almost close from decrypting the evolution of that series

Most of my traffic comes from Myspace (yes, really) because the scrubs are hot-embedding images.

@Bas they are my initials

Huh, I've still got the right SEO mix to be high on the list when searching space wallpapers 1920x1200 or space wallpapers 1680x1050 ... 7th according to my search just now

@orlp O_O You have four names?

@zyabin101 three plus a surname

4:52 PM
My mom only has two names, so on her drivers license it shows "NMN" where middle names usually go.

I have first, middle, sur., but I use four initials just because :P
"CSOB"

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ S stands for "sex machine"?

jump on the bandwagon @EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ

Boy Scouts

Proposed Q&A site for boy Scouts of America

Currently in definition.

@epicTCK Uhh... America is too localised.
What If...
There are boy scouts everywhere?

4:55 PM
@zyabin101 Good point...

yeah
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Conor [redacted] O'Brien, right?

@zyabin101 Yes, there are, but the structure is different. For example, scouts in britain are co-ed,

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ ye

okai
can i says middles names

@epicTCK Scouts in Russia are pioneers,
\o/ @RenderSettings you're back!

4:57 PM
Try renaming "International Scouting Organizations"?

and they do not contain the same badges, history, uniforms, not under the same leadership, etc

but same idea

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ So include girl scouts? that would be VERY broad

I have a neckercheif from trading with a mexican scout. :P
@epicTCK not really?
broad yes, hard to mantain-broad no

Ok. I'll change it. But change it to what?

4:58 PM
Name: Scouting
Description: Proposed Q&A site for "International Scouting Groups".

> One does not simply change a proposal. -- Area 51
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ lemme rw
(reword)

It has 2 followers So I can change it easy

> One does not simply quote a abstract organization - Easterly Irk

For: international scouting groups.

What about groups like Traillife
