4:00 PM
15:59 for me.

9:00 on the dot.

UK time.

@Quill Everytime for me.

:d

12:00:25

4:00 PM
@Solver @CoolestVeto, Sam and trichoplax are also UK.

Why I added the seconds, who knows.

Solver has the closest time to me then

@Quill has code-review time.

@EasterlyIrk Um what am I?

CRT.
@MamaFunRoll idk

4:01 PM
Oh god.

@Quill 19:01

@EasterlyIrk haha CRT monitors

Maybe UK, but I didn't say you weren't.

@MamaFunRoll Which country do you live in, then?

@Quill yup, and Code-Review Time zone.

4:02 PM
@Solver Every country.

@MamaFunRoll A really fun roll

jk. It's actually Smerbia.

So you're Community in disguise! :gasps:
Anyway, I live in the blogosphere.

Oh no, they know now! Memory wiping time.

:p

4:04 PM
OH NOES

oh nose

@ಠ_ಠ has left for long enough, you

?
Who els opens 5 million tabs on Google Chrome at once?

can't say ಠ_ಠ from his ping
@ಠ_ಠ pls com back, we love you...
/s
But come back anyway.
@Solver My math tutor. >.<

Okay...

4:10 PM
he has like 4 windows each with 50 tabs.
So not 5M, but lots.

The furthest I've gone in math is calculus (terrible)

@Solver BTW, did you get an invitiation to the trash?

@Dennis Yeah, those ones are a bit odd. By default, the only compose bindings for hooked letters are <dead_hook> <x>. So I customized my .XCompose file and copied all <dead_hook> bindings with <dead_hook> replaced with <Multi_key> <Multi_key> <h> <x> (compose-compose-h-x). So those bindings don't exist by default.

@EasterlyIrk What do you mean?

4:12 PM
@Solver I'm currently running about 150 tabs on Firefox. In multiple groups, using Tab Mix Plus for multiple rows, and only having loaded four this session

@Doorknob Hooked letter bindings: github.com/KeyboardFire/dotfiles/blob/…

Correction: currently 172
Yesterday's discussion with Bernard added a lot of tabs as "interesting things to look at later"

I tile separate windows together on my laptop 17 inch screen. Sometimes, I have 4 command prompts, one browser window, GIMPS, Prime Grid and Visual Studio.
And one filesystem window.

Tiling with i3 means I frequently have upwards of 10 terminal emulators on the same workspace.
And I've had all 10 workspaces in use at times >_>

:|

4:16 PM
@Doorknob Ah, OK. Thanks for clearing that up.

i'm back

@Dennis What is "US International Layout"? From what I've gathered, it's a different keyboard that can type the entire Jelly codepage, but how do I... use it?

@epicTCK ohai

when did avocados become a thing

@epicTCK 2 days ago.

4:18 PM
cool...

BUT AVOCAD HAS BEEN FOREVER

@Doorknob It's a different keyboard layout that is compatible with vanilla US except for the addition of the AltGr key. setxkbmap us intl selects it from a terminal.

in AvocadOS, 6 mins ago, by Easterly Irk
New Rule: If you correct my spelling/grammer, also answer my question.

@Dennis I see, thanks!

I will enforce that with much disapproval looks.

4:20 PM
New goal: Correct @EasterlyIrk's spelling and grammar as much as possible and never answer his questions.

@Doorknob ಠ_ಠ

US Mac (setxkbmap us mac) is also pretty cool. I found out about it today. Has a lot of symbols that I should have included in Jelly.

ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_‌ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ

@phase the fuck

Is disapproval monster.
Eat doorknobs for lunch.
Especially phallic ones.

4:28 PM
@Dennis So with us intl, every time I want to type a regular apostrophe, I'll have to type '<space>?

Everybody go vote on this: strawpoll.me/1 if you haven't already.
@Doorknob yes.

@Doorknob I hate dead keys.

@MartinBüttner Yeah, I think I prefer just sticking with compose key...

@Doorknob That's the default, for whatever reason. setxkbmap -layout us -variant altgr-intl -option nodeadkeys disables dead keys.
The dead keys are still there, but you need AltGr + key to get the dead version.

@Dennis I don't see how to create hooked letters ɓƈɗ either.

4:34 PM
AltGr + Shift + /, followed by the letter.

An ambigram I made awhile back.
I need some ideas for more ambigrams to make.

@MamaFunRoll L-L'O+EL?

Dennis + golf = e^(pi*i)

@Downgoat hotel.

ohhh
what does the top say?

4:35 PM
72.1=HOTEL?

@Downgoat Read it as a math equation.

73+0.1-1=L-L'O+EL=HOTEL

This one's my personal favorite.
"berserk"

to confusing brb having seizures

This one's nice and fun.

4:39 PM
:(
too much color

1 hour later…
5:43 PM
@MamaFunRoll Anambigrams?
Anagram + Ambigram

Gonna be experimenting with btrfs.

@flawr Hmm... interesting.

@AquaTart Uhm?

@AquaTart It is really great (and does all things).
Btrfs (B-tree file system, pronounced as "butter F S", "better F S", "b-tree F S", or simply by spelling it out) is a file system based on the copy-on-write (COW) principle, initially designed at Oracle Corporation for use in Linux. The development of Btrfs began in 2007, and by August 2014, the file system's on-disk format has been marked as stable. Btrfs is intended to address the lack of pooling, snapshots, checksums, and integral multi-device spanning in Linux file systems. Chris Mason, the principal Btrfs author, has stated that its goal was "to let Linux scale for the storage that will be...

Computer scientists, as always.

5:54 PM
Quite useful. My distro makes a snapshot of the entire system before and after every software update, so if everything goes wrong, I just roll it back. This is similar to system recovery in Windows, except that it happens instantly.

@Dennis Btrfs is jQuery?

No, btrfs does not have an arithmetic plugin.

D:

(And it's actually good for something.)

rekt

5:59 PM
ಠ_ಠ
does anyone here know how SPI works?

It's kinda annoying that btrfs can't be used for boot though. :/

that's because it's not jQuery :P

Last I checked jQuery cannot be used for a boot partition either.
It's pretty much ext4 or bust

you must of not installed the jQuery boot partition plugin

@AquaTart Huh? I don't have a separate boot partition, and / is formatted as btrfs.

6:03 PM
@Dennis and probably works. Which on Windows is not always the case

Recovery Points in Windows are fairly reliable. Since 8.1 there's also a "refresh" for when you really f*cked up.

haters gonna hate
without an update
they continue the debate

6:08 PM
You just read that now? That broadcast is old...
Also I don't think they know what code review means.

@Optimizer ^

same as we dont know what golfing means
@Downgoat dude, can you not paste the link?

ask how to reach the start of a line in vim again!

how do I go to the start of a lien in vim?

6:11 PM
:q!

it's :p not :q ಠ_ಠ

i am asking you to bite your own tongue

oh

@mınxomaτ They are generally reliabel, but I've sometimes had problems, such as files missing

why has no one pointed out I typed "lien" instead of "line"...

:O
THE FABLED PICTURES

^^^ the view from Quiet Reflections Retreat one morning.

@El'endiaStarman Nice. Did you take that?

@Doorknob I did! :D With my dad's smartphone.
^ A sunset from the chapel. That peak on the left is Mt. Mitchell, highest point east of the Mississippi.
And, now for my favorite:

Same sunset, though a bit earlier.

ooooh

6:17 PM
I absolutely love pictures of the sun.

I've had the same cover photo on Facebook for (almost!) three years now, and I'm going to replace it with that one.

Shoulda kept underlining to the 1 of the 14. :P

6:19 PM
He has to get rid 3 silver badges :P

@Doorknob It's still incorrect. "awhile" refers to the duration; the proper use would be "a while" in this case.

1 + 4 + 6 + 0 = 11

mind = blown;

Oh, I should probably upload a picture of the interior of the chapel. It's from 2013 though.
The views are gorgeous, and as is typical of such views, impossible to accurately capture on camera.

you need a better camera

6:21 PM
The views get proportionately more beautiful to outdo your camera quality, duh.

I'm not a photographer. :P

Hold on @Doorknob why did you edit out the kbd tags?
What was the point of that?

@MamaFunRoll kbd is for user input only. Using it for something other than what it's intended for is abuse of its semantics. meta.stackexchange.com/a/181795/180276

Well then... Didn't know that.
The rules change all the time.

6:27 PM
Then shouldn't we crack down on people who use i instead of em and b instead of strong? :P

@MamaFunRoll That's been the case ever since the creation of HTML.

@Doorknob No, I meant in this context. I understand the use of kbd, but I'm just using it as a button.

You shouldn't use buttons for links either (or vice versa) >_>

@MamaFunRoll Except it's not a button.

6:28 PM
... anyway, time to get on a plane now

welcome back @El'endiaStarman

ENJOY YOUR PLAINTRIP

@Doorknob It damn well looks like a button.

i was camping this weekend as welll

6:29 PM
@epicTCK Thanks. :)

@MamaFunRoll He means that the link isn't supposed to be a button, I think.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Well... I've always perceived the kbd tag (as styled on PPCG) as more of a button than a key. Perhaps someone should change that.

@MamaFunRoll That's true, probably because there aren't a lot of buttons on PPCG.

(Also, I've been doing this since I started linking to interpreters during submissions)

Yeah, you've been doing it for a while--why start noticing now? >_>

6:37 PM

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ We should add this to the list of memes.

NO you can=)

Yeah

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ something that is designed to be a meme is not a meme..

@flawr ._. we use it all the time in the chatroom

I do not=)

Rickrolling is a meme?

7:07 PM
That was so 2008.

Meh.
I do stuff on an 8 year (!) lag

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Then triangle is a meme too

Strictly, just about everything is a meme
A meme (/ˈmiːm/ meem) is "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture". A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme. Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate, and respond to selective pressures. Proponents theorize that memes are a viral phenomenon that may evolve by natural selection in a manner analogous to that of biological...

1. I wasn't trying to prove it was a meme >_>
2. You didn't sort by stars >_>

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Nobody said that.
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ But I did count the occurences.

The star point cards in the card game I'm currently prototyping- what denominations should they come in? Does 1, 3, and 5 sound reasonable?

How are we supposed to be able to answer that question well?
I for one know nothing about your card game.

7:25 PM
I'm thinking 1s and 3s in roughly equal proportions, and 5s slightly rarer

I think there should be 2.3s.

@SuperJedi224 Why conform to whole-number standards? Floats are beautiful too

7:41 PM
Also the hero cards are landscape orientation in the current draft because that makes some of the effect texts a little bit easier to fit on the card.

@EasterlyIrk I almost always read your username as "Easter Island"

@phase I guess a glider by any other name wouldn't smell as sweet

@AquaTart What do gliders smell like

Burning Rubber.

A: Is there an easy way to factor polynomials with two variables?

flawrI know this is nothing algorithmical but for simple polynomial $F(x,y)$ e.g. with integer coefficients it is an approach. It basically consists of plotting the zeros $Z(F) = \{(x,y) \in \mathbb R^2 | F(x,y)=0\}$. If you consider two polynomials $F(x,y)$ and $G(x,y)$ then $Z(F\cdot G) = Z(F) \cup...

@MartinBüttner that seems similar but my question has a couple of differences but probably a dupe (different number of players, grid size, input format, non-wrapping)

Sep 22 '15 at 3:19, by Alex A.
@PhiNotPi hello i have quetions how does juice an avocado i have try for thirtee minut and no juic

also that challenge is closed for new entries
(but is prob a dupe?)

8:35 PM
> That's gonna change Doorknobs.

@PhiNotPi Did you see?

@MartinBüttner Yup, thought of that too! :P

The whole concept of a doorknob mechanism seems unnecessary. Why not just have handles on doors and lock with deadbolts?

@AlexA. Because then Doorknob would be out of job

Clothes/straps can catch on handles, and animals can turn them.

8:36 PM
You wouldn't want him penniless on the streets would you

@flawr yes

And key locks of some form are fairly necessary.

@El'endiaStarman I don't mean a turning handle, just something shaped like ] that protrudes from the door.
@SuperJedi224 You can use a key to lock a deadbolt.

@AlexA. Oh, I see. Hmm. How would that work though?

You pull a door and it opens

8:38 PM
What if you don't want to lock the door, but want it to stay closed against pushes?

@El'endiaStarman Use a door that opens on pull.

@flawr In both directions?
Hold on, I think I'm confusing myself.
Talking about using car door handles on building doors?

@PhiNotPi You fiend and your unholy maths

@El'endiaStarman Sliding doors!

8:42 PM
True, true...
I even used them often at QRR.

QRR?

They were all outside doors, though.

@AlexA. Cool!

There is much right with this photo: (but is it still disturbing)

8:52 PM
@EasterlyIrk Looks like everything is in order there

@flawr THE PLACE WHERE YOU HAVE TO BE QUIET

@EasterlyIrk Public bathroom?

YEAH TOTALLY THERE
I've never known that you were supposed to be quiet there, but I think I always have been.

Well, you don't want to SHOUT in there...

@EasterlyIrk You have to be quiet in order to hear your make your stall neighbour uncomfortable.
