@NewMainPosts Why would someone vote to reopen this? It's a duplicate.

Just received money for something I programmed!!

Maybe him?
@ZachGates Nice.

I'm hype

*r

yeah, I messed up
and there is some bug in my code that makes it impossible

2:08 AM
Okay.
Anybody for the discord?
It kinda failed today.

You hate discord that much?
:P

I have realized the futility of creating a good code page for ESMin.

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ o_O

Have you seen the JS docs?

2:12 AM
It is impossible. Too many things are important enough to be one char.
You know what? I'll just go ahead and make ESMax.

Are you set on encoding each characters as a sequence of bytes?
With 1024 or less characters, you could encode each as 10 bits, for example.

@Dennis No, I'm trying to fit all the important ones into 1 byte and everything else into 2.
Which is entirely possible.
@Dennis Wait... 10 bits = how many bytes?

1 min ago, by ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ
It is impossible. Too many things are important enough to be one char.
Ahem.

Except for that.
I'm too indecisive.

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ That would be 1.25 bytes per char.

2:14 AM
I'm doing that then.

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ Obviously.

No more decisions.

How does one go about creating a code page for that?
1.25 bytes?

> The earth is flat flat flat like your face!!
Totally not relevant.

2:15 AM
Cleverbot's jewel of wisdom,

@RikerW Of course, the first message I see when I walk in the door is an interesting one, just like always...

Jan 14 at 1:19, by RikerW
> Clev: The Earth is flat! Flat flat flat like your face! | Yes, that is correct. Clev: Always is correct. | Now remember, the earth is flat, okay? Clev: The earth is definitely round. Spherical. | No, it is flat. Clev: A flat circle, my friend. #cleverbot

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ It's no longer a code page per se. The easiest way would probably to give your interpreter an encoding switch, which selects between UTF-8 and the custom encoding.

@Zizouz212 Aaaaaand this one:
Jan 14 at 1:44, by RikerW
> Thou shalt not pass!!!!!!!! Clev: I will pass into mordor. | Okay, your death. :P. Clev: No my death already came. | Oh. Sorry to hear that. Clev: Yeah. She died three years ago from ALS. #cleverbot

@Dennis But what would 1.25 bytes look like?

2:16 AM
IDK

Any reference implementation?

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ 10 bits?

I really don't understand bits very well.

@RikerW Turning into Shakespeare I see?

I've never really had to worry about encodings.
:P

2:17 AM
@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ Don't worry. Booleans aren't bits, they're really bytes.

@Zizouz212 These are parts of my conversation with cleverbot a while ago.

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ s=>s.split``.map(l=>l.charCodeAt()).toString(2).join``.match(/.{10}/g)
that should get you the bits

Oic thx!
That's it?

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ Holy crap. What the hell is that?

Magic

2:19 AM
That looks scary

@Zizouz212 the beauty of JavaScript ES6

Oh my god! My eyes! Javascript is tearing me apart!
QUICK! SOMEBODY SAVE ME!

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ wait no, s=>s.split``.map(l=>l.charCodeAt().toString(2)).join``.match(/.{10}/g).map(‌l=>parseInt(l,2)) that should work

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ You could split up your code into 4-character chunks, and convert each chunk from bijective base 1024 to bijective base 256.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ what does interpolation syntax look like?

2:21 AM
@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ beauty horror golfiness

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ Figured that out myself.
@Dennis Sort of like what @Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ has?

@RikerW I've noticed your bounty on Law.

Oh yeah...
It was just for fun.

For fun?

2:23 AM
So the pipe introduces interpolation?

@Dennis Wait, converting from base 1024 to 256? That's pretty darn hard in ES6 (if I'm not mistaken).

I probably am not going to make a account forever, but VTC's question could use a bounty, so I used my association bonus for it.

VTC?
Oh. -_-
All of you and your... rather interesting names

VoteToClose?

Yep.

2:24 AM
And zizouz212 is not interesting?

> ASSOC

And why the hell is there a sudden surge of questions for Canadian law?

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ For fixed sized chunks, it's pretty easy. I'm a little busy right now, but I'll be back later.

Canadian law isn't really interesting

2:24 AM
@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ lol BUT I DID!

@Zizouz212 Because people need to know what it's like in Canada so we can all move there if Trump is elected.

An igloo, (Inuit language: iglu, Inuktitut syllabics ᐃᒡᓗ [iɣˈlu] (plural: igluit ᐃᒡᓗᐃᑦ [iɣluˈit])), also known as a snow house or snow hut, is a type of shelter built of snow, typically built when the snow can be easily compacted. Although igloos are stereotypically associated with all Inuit, they were traditionally associated with people of Canada's Central Arctic and Greenland's Thule area. Other Inuit people tended to use snow to insulate their houses, which were constructed from whalebone and hides. Snow is used because the air pockets trapped in it make it an insulator. On the outside,...

@Zizouz212 what's the internet speed in igloos?

Does anyone know of a website where I can host one of my programs and run it on their servers so I don't have to run it on my own computer?

Nope, but let me know when you find one.

@GamrCorps A lot of web hosting services do that

2:46 AM
@GamrCorps yes use cloud9
thats what we use for the bot

So I install the silver searcher (google it) and type ag help to get to the intro, right? No.

it also doubles as an ide

@GamrCorps What type of program? Just hosting a webpage with javascript and stuff?

I get like a trillion results from searching 'help' accidentally.

I don't know what c9.io is, but GamrCorps was looking for hosting

It is a online cloud development VM hosty thingy

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ You could split up your code into 4-character chunks, and convert each chunk from bijective base 1024 to bijective base 256.
It means split up your code into 4-character chunks and convert each chunk from bijective base 1024 to bijective base 256

Obviously

Oh come on.
what the heck does bijective base 1024 to bijective base 256 even mean?
The first part is easy to understand, but the second part isn't.

is anyone looking for a challenge they can easily win still?

Bijective numeration is any numeral system in which every non-negative integer can be represented in exactly one way using a finite string of digits. The name derives from this bijection (one-to-one correspondence) between the set of non-negative integers and the set of finite strings using a finite set of symbols (the "digits"). Most ordinary numeral systems, such as the common decimal system, are not bijective because more than one string of digits can represent the same positive integer. In particular, adding leading zeroes does not change the value represented, so "1", "01" and "001" al...

help how do I X
I'm trying to write a C program that grabs the pixels on the screen and turns it into a PNG and I got that

@AlexA. what if i say "this challenge is easy" everywhere

The solution is not obvious

WHERE IS DENNIS WHEN I NEED HIM???

@Doorknob Not like this

3:27 AM
clearly

@AlexA. It was fairly obvious to me. (Although Neil's solution seems to be far cleverer than mine, so the best solution is not obvious.)

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ Take a set of unicode characters labelled 0-1023. Then split your string into chunks of 4, treat them as digits in base 1024 with your digit set and convert it to base 256
does that help

Okay that does. Thanks.
I can't believe this could work, but thanks.
Btw, would s=>s.split``.map(l=>l.charCodeAt().toString(2)).join``.match(/.{10}/g).map(l=>par‌seInt(l,2)) work? (ES6)

ok what did I do

rgb

3:32 AM
yeah but... how

IDK but I just read a bit more carefully and it looks like you want it to be bijective right

try to overlay them, combine the colours

In order for it to be bijective the 0th digit in your digit set needs to be the empty string.
I cannot read JS so

@quartata Okay.

> I cannot read
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

3:35 AM
Otherwise something like say 01 and 1 would be the same in your base

@AlexA. improper lenny usage :P

(hence bijective)

@Doorknob I know, I just felt like a Lenny

i'm playing the witness and i'm taking so many notes that my room smells like sharpie

3:39 AM
Take notes in something other than Sharpie then

they're mostly pen and pencil
but i use sharpies for colours
and i've been stuck on a colour-intensive puzzle for a long time
i was so excited because i found a pattern but then i tried to use that to find the solution and it failed. then i found a counterexample to the pattern.

this is a slight improvement

i suppose

That's really bad.

Kind words of encouragement

3:42 AM
one encouragement, coming right up:
ahem
wow! you've got so much room to improve!

Anonymous
@Doorknob what on earth

Wow, I just found out that ESMin uses 817 chars.

aha I figured it out \o/

@Doorknob Why do you use C for that in the first place.

why not?

3:45 AM
Because this is trivial in other languages (and I'm sure in some libs you can use with C).

how to learn a new thing: find a library that does it trivially

@mınxomaτ I'm gonna be doing some stuff interfacing directly with X (taking screenshots of specific windows only, drawing overlays on top of the screen, etc.), so I need to be able to access those X features
doing it in any higher level language would just be hacky

@Doorknob what'd you do?

@Quill I wrote a C program that outputs the screen to a PNG file

I meant to fix it

3:47 AM
oh
put some * 3s in places where they needed to be

3:58 AM
"Fix" is a strong word :P

it works, though :P
now I'm implementing screenshot-of-a-window
(I'm writing my own screenshot program because import has annoying bugs and all the other ones I can find aren't lightweight enough for my tastes)

@Doorknob Use Xlib?
