@Geobits _UNK
What we need is a Chatbot Training Montage™ !
@Geobits I ' m not sure what you mean
I ' m not sure I ' m not sure what you mean
18 mins ago, by Alex A.
@Roujo I don ' t think I ' m not sure what I did .
To be fair, I only got two "I ' m not sure" and no "_UNK" from him on that last round.
19:01
@Geobits Why doesn ' t it know how to use apostrophes?
Sorry, "he" not "it"
For anyone who has seen Mr. Robot: Mr. Brobot
@Calvin'sHobbies It has a terrible tokenizer. Apparently it delimits words on apostrophes, and uses them the same way.
I plan to do some light processing on responses to fix that if I ever let him loose on the world.
@Geobits Just set the chatbot up on c9, plug it into the SE-Chatbot, and let us teach it. :D
That's a terrible idea :P
Why?
It's a neural network based on us.
:c
19:04
Yes.... but people are trolls deep down, and it only takes a small push to bring it out ;)
See: The Nineteenth Byte
(not really. :D)
Once his initial learning is done, further feeds will be put in, but I'll probably edit them for obvious trollishness. It's not as if he can insta-incorporate things anyway.
@Geobits Can you not change it so it only breaks on spaces?
@Geobits I ' m not sure what you mean
@Calvin'sHobbies Probably, but I'm about 30 hours in now :/
It might help with semantics to parse them that way, though. I'm not really sure.
19:16
The "small language" isn't Turing-complete, is it?
Challenge idea: you're given a list of directions NWSE and need to convert it into relative directions LFRB. (E.g. NWWSNN --> FLFLBF where LBF automatically change your forward facing position to the direction of movement). Can anyone find out if that would be a dupe?
@PhiNotPi it might be if you modify the loop variable inside the loop (if that's possible?)
15
Q: Relative vs Absolute

Calvin's HobbiesIf someone facing north at point A in this grid wanted directions to follow the green path (as they can only follow gridlines) to point B you might tell them: Go North, North, West, East, East, South, East, East. or equivalently Go Forward, Forward, Left, Back, Forward, Right, Left, Forward....

I think that is possible, but my argument would be that there's no form of unbounded data storage, as in all variables are global, only hold a single integer, and the number of variables is defined at the start.
Made that over a year ago Martin :P
@Calvin'sHobbies thanks :)
19:20
Although, there are was to store unbounded data in a single integer, like Fractran.
Yeah if they are arbitrary precision integers that's enough.
i^i<i^> is an infinite loop
@PhiNotPi If you use unbounded integers, you can simulate a two-counter machine, which is Turing-complete.
Details left as exercise.
@Calvin'sHobbies might be fun in Retina
@MartinBüttner But we haven't had that for 3D coordinates, right? I'm thinking commands like left/right turn, left/right roll and forward, and output is final position.
19:25
Oh, rolling sounds fun.
You could use full pitch/yaw/roll controls.
Ah! I can feel my poor gimbals locking up now.
I had that idea a while ago, but I was too lazy to hack together a reference solution.
Feel free to steal it and do the work for me. :P
It doesn't sound too bad. Put the 8 unit vectors in an array and hardcode the rotations as permutations. Forward and backward simply read the delta from a fixed index
I'm more dreading coming up with a clear diagram :P
That too.
19:30
@Zgarb Do a barrel roll?
@TimmyD Wheeee

@TimmyD What did I just watch

@PhiNotPi Sounds like subreddit simulator
@Mego I know.
@Mego Yeah, that's probably not the best a strange introduction to Homestar Runner ...
Homestar Runner is a Flash-animated Internet cartoon series created by Mike and Matt Chapman, also known as the Brothers Chaps. Its comedy mixes surreal humor, self-parody, and references to 70's, 80's and 90's pop culture, in particular video games, classic television, and popular music. While site features originally centered on the title character, Homestar Runner, the cartoon series Strong Bad Email quickly became the site's most popular and prominent feature, with Strong Bad becoming a breakout character. Since 2000, the site has grown to encompass a variety of cartoons and web games featuring...

@TimmyD I've seen a lot of HR from years ago. That's weird by HR standards
Yeah...

@PhiNotPi looks like it is sufficient to do a two-counter additive automaton
oops ninja'd already

That's not even ninja'd
@VoteToClose So... just like The Bridge?

Q: Cannot view certain videos in Windows 10

MegoI am having a curious problem while trying to watch videos, both online and locally. Some videos (notably mp4 videos) don't display the video, showing a blank white screen instead, while the audio plays fine. Some examples: Chrome (with extensions AdBlock Plus, Ghostery, Chrono Download Manager...

:( I don't get to watch it

@undergroundmonorail Questions about not being able to connect to YouTube are off topic. You may be able to get help from someone who gives a shit. Thanks!

Wow that's mean, especially coming from Alex :P

while iter_count < 1000: #scientifically chosen, not arbitrary at all
@Mego Solution: use !Windows.
20:10
I'm not sure exactly what is required to make the sort radix.
Anonymous
@ThomasKwa Seems legit to me. You subverted the rules, which is not only allowed, but often encouraged.
@ThomasKwa I strongly dislike the use of arbitrary bases but other than that it seems valid

@VoteToClose Installing another operating system to fix a video playback issue is a bit like burning down your house to kill a spider, but even more irrational.
@Mego No, that's entirely justified.
@AlexA. So you should install Windows if your Linux box doesn't support Netflix's DRM?
20:12
I concur - spiders are evil and must be purged.
@Roujo No, you should burn your house down if Linux doesn't support Netflix's DRM.
Alex has spoken.
@Roujo I have this issue with Hulu in Chrome. It's the one reason I have Firefox installed, and it irritates me to no end.
Anonymous
Ok, then it's like cutting your hand off because your finger hurts
I just watch Netflix on my Chromecast =P
20:13
Plenty of people get by with one hand.
@Mego That seems reasonable.
Plus, your finger won't hurt any more.
I mean, it does solve the problem.
And it's a fairly easy solution too.
And I'm sure you could collect disability insurance, too.
20:14
@Roujo Yea, I do that, too. Or phone. Or tablet. But if I want to on my desktop, I get pissed every time ;)
@TimmyD Yeah. And if you do it at work you'll get worker comp too.
@Geobits Heh. I'd like to run Linux - I've been told by someone here that Arch is nice - but my games don't really run all that well there. =P
@Roujo What games?
@quartata Only if you "accidentally" do it.
There's like, no foreseeable downside to this plan.
20:15
I knew The Nineteenth Byte was a bad influence. I suddenly feel like it's a good idea to cut off my own hand at work.
Anonymous
Installing Linux because I'm having video playback issues in Windows is an extreme overreaction to the problem. It's like trying to solve a problem by using regex: I'd have 2 problems.
@Geobits Ah right.
Maybe drop a cleaver by accident or something?
@Roujo Most of those games will run natively on Linux or with Wine.
Saints Row is the only one I'm not sure about.
@AlexA. I ' m not sure that ' s a good idea
20:16
@quartata Not sure about most, but yeah some of those play well
MapleStory will for sure work on Wine
@Roujo Half-Life has been ported to Linux.
@Mego It's still the right choice though.
@AlexA. All Valve games except L4D1 have been ported to Linux.
@quartata Even Ricochet? =)
20:17
1. Install Linux. 2. Learn regex.
Oh shit
@Roujo Yes, actually.
Anonymous
@Roujo How many games is that?
And FWIW Ricochet is a good game
except no one plays it
@quartata Wow, that's pretty cool. Ricochet has become an inside joke in my circle of friends. =P
20:18
lel
@Mego Steam says 346.
@Roujo s/my/everyone's/
I was half-kidding, anyway - I know games work a lot better on Linux than they used to.
And even .NET is joining in the fun
.NET is the antithesis of fun
4
But I'd rather not have the hassle of getting them to work - as it is, I can just jump in and play.
@Geobits Hey, I'm an F#/C# dev and I'm having fun =P
20:20
I think that means you're doing it wrong.
This was pretty interesting.
Anonymous
@Roujo Impressive. I have 174 according to Steam, and my girlfriend has like 100 games that I don't have, so together (thanks family sharing) we have close to 300
@Mego I find it less "impressive" and more "I discovered Steam Sales while working full-time but living with my parents so I had little-to-no living expenses" =P

@Roujo Also humble bundles
@Mego Tons of those too, yeah. Just started playing XCOM after getting it in a Humble Bundle a long time ago. =)
Is there a Steam Group for PPCG users? =)
Anonymous
There should be
Anonymous
If there isn't, I put Alex in charge of making one and inviting people
@AlexA. I'd be happy to join.
I'm so bad at Steam. I'll have my girlfriend make one and then I'll take credit for it.
20:47
This is what I feel like when I get ninja'd:
Isn't this challenge essentially the same as the "encode image in a tweet" challenge, just with a changed number of bytes?
OK, well, I guess the scoring is more objective.
It specifically mentions that you must compress the image.
more objective is one way of expressing it.
I'll choose the winner vs this scoring algorithm.

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

ETHproductionsContinue the sequence code-challenge sequence As we all know, there are a lot of integer sequences in the world. What if we could create one program to figure out the next few items in any given sequence? That would be pretty cool, right? Well, I'm pretty sure we can't create a program that doe...

Oh god, this took forever. It even required me registering for Google Developer and registering a project to get an API key.

@NewMainPosts 14 second close :)
@VoteToClose The only way to run Julia online with a permalink is with Coding Ground, which only has an old version and no modules. :/
@Doorknob Nice.
@NewMainPosts Just went to close, but apparently @Doorknob ninja'd me by three minutes :P
I only add permalinks to my Julia answers when they work in 0.3.
20:53
I can trust you, right? ;D
@VoteToClose Just get julia.
@Doorknob \o@
Slower than my record of 11 seconds.
@RikerW Can't - I'm on a borrowed laptop, any installed information has to be approved.
@Dennis half cheerleader?
20:53
Gotta golf those close times.
@VoteToClose Of course! <_< >_>
@VoteToClose DO IT ANYWAY
And get nethack while you're at it.

@VoteToClose Clearly we need to add Julia to Data
Yes pls
20:54
You'd need your own Google Developer API key to run this code though.
@Dennis TryItOnline?
@AlexA. I has.

@AlexA. What makes you think I don't have one? :P
I'm just saying that it's required, not that none of you have one.

Still Jar Jar Binx, so still offensive.

@AlexA. I almost cared enough to correct your spelling. Almost.
@VoteToClose I have a feeling that would be an enormous undertaking for Dennis since Julia has a whole lot of capabilities that would have to be disabled for TIO.
Maybe only on the offline Data version.
Anonymous
20:57
@AlexA. Hence why we want him to do it rather than us :P

Anonymous
Offline Data version wouldn't fix the issue of "Julia cannot be effectively tested online"
You can use JuliaBox.org if you have a Google account. It's like an IPython notebook but for Julia.
@Mego True.
Anonymous
Ooh
Doesn't support permalinks though because it requires authentication.

20:58
I wonder if it has a decent API
Nope
