Er... do you mean in MC specifically?
This was just sugar renamed on an anvil

@Calvin'sHobbies Sorry, I needed to leave for a little bit.
Give me an hour and a half.

@PhiNotPi You have 5 Earth minutes.

When I import pylab while using the Python REPL, keyboard input becomes extremely laggy.
What would be a good site to ask about a solution for this?

Yahoo Answers

12:14 AM
There should be a Stack Exchange where you ask what Stack Exchange your question is appropriate for.

@feersum There's a [site-recommendation] tag on Meta.SE but I'm not sure what it's actually for.

Probably any pair of English words is a tag on Meta.SE.

[broccoli-trumpet]

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ wat?

12:23 AM
idk

idk either

did github just go down?

Yep.

woah, almost identical to mine?
ryan?
No tweets on it.

12:28 AM
"Ryan" ?

don't tell anonymous

Mego is ryan too.

well that can't be good

Oh great, just when my push was at 80%...

"Okay! I'm gonna be productive and continue working on Detour!"
> GitHub: No server is currently available to service your request.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

@Cyoce The point of DVCS is that you don't need to be connected to the server all the time to work and make commits.

Well, back to plan A
@feersum I have to pull my work from github that I pushed from another computer

Can't you work on some other bit of the language?

@AlexA. That's actually what you're supposed to use that tag for

12:39 AM
That's what I thought

Difficult to guess from the name I know

I couldn't remember if it was that one or [site-proposal] that had been deprecated in favor of Area 51.

Be careful that you don't just phrase it as "gimme dah se site pls" or else it'll get a lot of downvotes.
Actually strike that, I think any question gets downvotes. But you'll get an answer if you don't phrase it like that

Q: The powerful connection

Washington GuedesIntroduction There is a plantation defined by one big square-board like this one: The numbers inside each small square represents its area's value/cash/... The farmer needs help to find the N squares that connected (it means all N squares should have at least one shared border) give him the ...

This is Github’s way of saying, “take a break. It’s whisky time.”
Apparently, heroku failed.

Whiskey time sounds nice. Brb.

Q: A New Code-Golfing Language

TheCoffeeCupFor some of those in The 2nd Monitor, you know that I was creating a new golfing language. For one or two (@Quill), you have heard from me how tough it is. A-Ray (that's what it's called) is a function-based programming language (if that's what you call it). A sample program looks something like...

we've got our hooks into the code reviewers

mwahaha

@quartata keep your friends close....

<lurks>

You're one of us now. — Alex A. 2 mins ago

It's interesting how this post is on-topic on Code Review, but off-topic on PPCG =P

12:57 AM
@quartata Look how long that is.. I think it may be a trap!

@Roujo He's looking for a review of his code, which is just what Code Review is for.

arrow is so good

@AlexA. Yup, exactly. I'm just remarking that while PPCG's audience would probably be a good one for his esolang, it's ironically not a good place to post it =P

stackoverflow.com/a/31590740/4468905 has a typo in the first codeblock but I can't edit it because edits need to be 6 characters or more

@Roujo :P

1:00 AM
Not that it's a bad thing, mind you - I've seen some meta posts about why discussion and esolang dev isn't really PPCG's target

Oh noes Github is screwed up now.

@phase Comment

@ՊՓԼՃՐՊՃՈԲՍԼ status.github.com been down for a while now
@AlexA. errrrrrr

I often forget how nice Code Review's design looks.

too gray

1:02 AM
Yeah, it's pretty sweet

@AlexA. :-)

@phase Now the ESMin interpreter has broken.

Compared to the default over here, anyway.

I hope you guys get a really cool one

When are we coming out of beta again? ;)

1:03 AM
The House on Mango Street has a chapter called Meme Ortitz and obviously the internet has corrupted my mind because I expected Pepe to jump and of the page.

never

@Roujo November 1, 2016

@Quill We kinda already have a cool one but it's community made :P

@Roujo The year 6969.

@quartata I did one of those for CR, I'm in the middle of doing one for A&M

1:04 AM
@quartata Is there a userstyle or something that I could install to make it look like it's official? =)

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ What was the url of your design userscript again?

@Calvin'sHobbies It's on github D:

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ Thanks! =D

1:05 AM
@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ oh :/

no chat design?

Is anyone else getting a unicorn on that GitHub link? =P

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ a golf ball would go well with the hexagonal theme

> No relation to the sport golf
that was the most upvoted suggestion

but it's punny

@phase welcome to the black hole side

@phase play tf2

@quartata urg now you have me thinking of Interstellar
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ too clunky

1:09 AM
not being on Windows XP is weird, I can run applications relatively fast and I can actually see @ՊՓԼՃՐՊՃՈԲՍԼ or @CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ's names

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ status.github.com

You crashed GitHub by linking your userstyle

@Roujo wait really?

1:10 AM
We clearly want it so much that we hugged the site to death

ooh that was joke

I will accept no other explanation

i no of this joke!

@phase Yeah, sorry =P

@quartata Why DJ?

1:12 AM
@AlexA. was doing some micspam in lazy purple's server a couple months back, too lazy to change it
I'm clanless now so I don't have anything to put in my username

@quartata quartatertots

Riveting so far

it's officially been half an hour since GitHub went down. I'm scared

@Calvin'sHobbies You pinged me from within Minecraft because of Chat Relay. O_O

1:21 AM
@AlexA. You didn't know that could happen?

I hadn't thought about it

It's kind of a feature :P

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I shall make a language in which all valid brainfuck instructions are ignored. Then I can make polyglots for anything.

@Cyoce So like the opposite of GolfScript?

1:29 AM
BowlScript

I shall make a language that hooks up to your brain and uses your brain as a built-in for anything you want it to do, in 0 bytes.
Results may vary depending on the programmer

Is... Is GitHub down?
Alex linked a GitHub thing and I can't see it

in The 2nd Monitor, 3 mins ago, by quartata
@TheCoffeeCup Yes everyone is freaking out

It's under maintenance

Hello.

1:33 AM
It's time for your language to be judged.

@quartata Now we know you visit Code Review <throws tomato>

Uh oh.

EXP = code ugliness points LVL = Level of Golfiness

:27150399 what what you what.

@Ampora D:

1:35 AM
@TheCoffeeCup give us some example programs for your language so we can see how golfy it really is

@Cyoce It's not golfy. It's just a start.

@TheCoffeeCup you beat pyth. not bad

@Cyoce Only lucky the language had that :

@TheCoffeeCup Hello!
We're objectively better than Code Review
2
It seems you're beginning to realize this
This is good

But we have objective winning criteria

@TheCoffeeCup I'd see If I could make a shorter one in my language, but GitHub is down :(

@AlexA. well, one of us have graduated, and one of us have all positive site stats
I'll be curious to see what PPCG swag looks like
you know they'll probably give you guys a golf ball

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I can deal

1:42 AM
@TheCoffeeCup you should add implicit output

@Cyoce so? Can you not just do it locally?

@quartata I was thinking about that...

@Doorknob I only have a local version on my other computer :(

I hope some day we'll remove "Programming Puzzles &" from our name, given that not a single one posted in 2015 remained open and there are only 16 currently open.
"Hey kids, want some programming puzzles?" "Yeah!" "TOO FUCKING BAD"

The final result of a function should be printed, say. It is a fairly common golfing language feature

1:43 AM
@AlexA. Really? Not even one?

はい、そうです。

@AlexA. please censor profanity
too fucking b**
4

@Doorknob haha I was about to do that exact thing

Maybe we're not graduating because our name is too long to fit on a T-Shirt

@AlexA. It'll probably happen. Remember what Programmers's title was in beta lol

1:45 AM
For a site that loves to make things short, we have a surprisingly long name.
17
@quartata What was it lel?

@quartata Not Programming Related?
iirc

We could be Not Programming Puzzle Related.

Think it was Non Code Programming Questions

Wow, that sucks

it's on a51

1:47 AM
That sounds so amateurish. How did it even get created in the first place with such a title?

I thought it was "We close everything"

$ git push
remote: GitHub is offline for maintenance. See status.github.com for more info.

We should rename ourselves GeneralProgrammingQuestionsAreOffTopicForThoseSeeStackOverflow.SE.
3
@feersum 10 questions/day

or just CodeGolf.SE

@phase OH HEY, GREAT IDEA
Oh wait
That's our name now
SILLY PHASE
TRIX ARE FOR CHILDREN!!!

1:48 AM
@AlexA. It got questions before it existed?

@AlexA. kids*

Programming Puzzles and CodeGolf != CodeGolf

@Doorknob chilren

kilren

@AlexA. smal peepol

1:49 AM
@phase Oh, that's what you mean. Yes, I would like this to happen. (Except you're missing a space in Code Golf.)
@Doorknob babbies
how formed

da litle ppl

how girl get pragnent

@AlexA. I can't believe you've doen this

wtf

@quartata Ah fuck. I can't believe you've done this.

1:50 AM
@Quill I keep seeing references to this and Alex has linked a thing like a million times but I've never actually looked at it :P

@Doorknob ಠ_ಠ

Why are you blaming me?

@Doorknob u don't love alex enough

What did I do?

1:51 AM
I have found a lossy compression algorithm for English.

Is it called Spanish?

Engrish
or just throw out articles and conjuctions

It relies on the pronunciation of words

Avocad

Spanish is surprisingly golfy

1:52 AM
@AlexA. hahahaha what

@Cyoce doesn't work in reverse

@Doorknob I'm told that this isn't a typical British reaction to something.
Not sure whether I believe that.

Anyone else having trouble with GitHub?

YES
everyone

1:53 AM
@ETHproductions Everyone is.

@ETHproductions Everyone in the universe

ffs like the billionth person to say it

github is having problems with github
9

@ETHproductions down for maitnence

1:54 AM
somebody pin it

github can't github github githubbishly enough

6 mins ago, by phase
$ git push
remote: GitHub is offline for maintenance. See http://status.github.com for more info.
@Doorknob pretty sure github isn't a verb

I just got on specifically to do smth on GitHub

@phase you can go github your github

Oh shithub
9
He just githubbed all over the place

1:55 AM
The algorithm has a way of representing the pronunciation (phonemes) of word. You then try to infer from that pronunciation what the original word is (hence "lossy")

I guess I'm stuck hanging around here for now

believe me people have thought of this. the end result is called soundex

a lowercase letter is pronounced normally, but an uppercase letter has it's name pronounced. (i.e. N -> "en")
It looks completely idiotic
The hello world program:

but think of all the words that are spelled differently and sound the same

hence "lossy"
besides, in that regard it is no less accurate than speech

1:57 AM
If you want lossy, golfed English, look at the text messages sent by the average preteen.

I should really turn off the userscript right now; it's surprisingly hard to see the buttons when they're hosted on a site that's not available.

hLO, wRld!
^ hello world program

Aw man, without the userscript, we look so... bleak :(

so how will your algo decide which word something is?

@ETHproductions Hah, they're cached for me :P I should upload the buttons to another site...

1:58 AM
@ETHproductions Agreed.

@Cyoce Even shorter: hw

it's too lossy. there could be several choices

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ i.stack.imgur?

@AlexA. imgur doesn't support svg

@quartata exactly

1:58 AM
@Cyoce Oh yeah, I did something like a few years ago, before I was into programming

with speech we have context

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ o.c

@quartata I forgot to mention this: the decompression algorithm is a human

@ETHproductions My userscript works fine...

oh cool
