@Mehrad Yep, sounds about right

12:03 AM
@Quill thanks anyways man. at least somebody was there to tell me it's not even possible :D
what type of command is this action=download&file is anyways? are there different actions? what syntax is this

those are query strings, they let you pass like a pseudo object with the url call
so the query passes in {action: 'download', file: 'foo.bee'}

@Phrancis thanks buddy. see that you're advancing forward in a very constant pace. nothing is stopping you it seems :D

Thanks :)

Some quick question for the native english speakers. It seems 'we hypothize' does not exist. :D What word would fit? (e.g. Believe), but it should be more scientific. :D

Q: A New Code-Golfing Language

TheCoffeeCupFor some of those in The 2nd Monitor, you know that I was creating a new golfing language. For one or two (@Quill), you have heard from me how tough it is. A-Ray (that's what it's called) is a function-based programming language (if that's what you call it). A sample program looks something like...

weird, it highlights my name in the onebox, but no ping

@CaptainObvious This is a procedural language. It's similar in syntax to Pyth

also you can use code: none or something similar to apply no colour formatting to your code

It's also not golfy at all fix it @TheCoffeeCup
Hmm I feel compelled to review this but that would involve effort

*write a review
@SirPython oh. github is down. right

12:47 AM
@SirPython It's not just you

@Quill Can confirm github is down
don't panic

@Quill Capn Obvious is not a real user, so that's probably why it doesn't ping you

You know, this is like the reverse of Pandora's box. Once you come in, you can't get out.

@Quill Lucky me, I'm not using GitHub right now.
@quartata I know it's not golfy; it's just the start.

more like you don't want to leave

In fact, I have about 200 (I think) more characters open for commands.
TTE

@Quill just a joke

I know ;p

1:01 AM
@TheCoffeeCup The language itself looks golfy I just meant that your reference FizzBuzz is not
:P
In all seriousness I do encourage you to continue working on this.
One of the best golfing languages Pyth uses syntax very similar to this
It's harder to implement than a stack based language
But it can turn out much better

I don't know stack languages have a lot of byte-saving possibilities

@Cyoce No not really

depending on challenge

Mostly just in kolomogorov
Infix (jelly) and prefix (Pyth) seem to be the way to go now.

Infix? but... precedence!

1:05 AM
Jelly does it in reading order
So it's not nasty
At any rate go tell that to the dozens of won challenges in Jelly
Dennis has conquered

No. It's on-topic discussion about a Code Review question

Q: AdvancedRTFEditorKit Quaqmire

BenI'm in the midst of coding a basic document editor, that is currently capable of opening any .rtf document and properly displaying all formatting. This includes all text that is Bold, Italic, Underline as well as any alignment formats. My openRTF() method is as follows: AdvancedRTFEditorKit...

@TheCoffeeCup I edited your post to override the default syntax highlighting, if you need to do that again this is how:
<!-- language: lang-none -->
<pre>T0~f"Fizz"~b"Buzz"f{?=%t+960{p`fp`b}{?=%t30{p`f} ?=%t50{p`b} }T+t1p"
"}</pre>
(note: The leading 4 spaces are not needed for code blocks when using this method - if you add them, then your whole code block will be indented 4 additional spaces more than intended)

1:14 AM
@quartata I would attribute that more to the fact that Jelly uses an encoding that gives it more 1-byte characters. “3ḅaė;œ» hello world? that's ridiculous

@Cyoce That's the compressor.
Has nothing to do with the code page.
But we're getting off topic.

^^

@Phrancis Thanks!

Designing a language sure sounds like a daunting task

@Phrancis I've designed 3 (one hasn't been implemented yet). You get used to it.
It's pretty fun actually.

@Phrancis It is. Writing the interpreter is even more of a challenge.
My A_RayCode.java file has about 1200 lines.

I'd shamelessly plug one of my langs but github is still down

@Phrancis but it's really fun you should try it

Hello future GitHubber! I bet you're here to remove those nasty inline styles,
DRY up these templates and make 'em nice and re-usable, right?

Please, don't. github.com/styleguide/templates/2.0

-->
no that's not why I'm here you guessed poorly

I'm heading over to the Nineteenth Byte, see what they have to say.

It was sheer panic a half hour ago
Oh you mean about your golfing language
You might want to try the Esoteric Programming Languages room too

a good question is why they link in a github page in the "github is down" page

so...
I found a YouTube video that needs a code review

LOOK AT THAT

IE has more than Edge eh. I'm gonna blame it on Edge being newer. Although, with 18.5K Windows users, you'd think more than ~2K would use IE/Edge, if it were a good browser...

@Phrancis Edge is great on the phone.
@JeroenVannevel Where'd you get that little popup in the corner?

Renamer.Annotation annotation

Oh, cool.

2:11 AM
You apply to a node and then it will pop up that renamer along with highlighting all the references to that node
I've hit some Roslyn internal bugs and some serious edge cases with this diagnostic but now it's almost done

@JeroenVannevel pretty... when you going to push it to a (pre-)release?

even though there are a few very niche scenarios that won't work because Roslyn itself doesn't handle it correctly yet

@JeroenVannevel I'm not so sure we are doing some of our fixes right.

That's pretty cool, var uAsString = "@JeroenVannevel"

@Quill maybe in a month. I've still got a lot of bugs to go through and diagnostics to review

2:13 AM
When we use the WithOperator() method, that doesn't work in VB.NET, as I've told you.

this was a very tricky one. Like you have no idea how many document modifications are done in this diagnostic

Devs when GitHub is down: "plastic lightsaber fight!" Devs when StackOverflow is down: "everyone's going to find out I can't actually code"

Apparently, the VB.NET one works, where it doesn't let you change the operator.

meh, I'm not too concerned with VB.NET. I can't write it myself so I can't write any diagnostics for it either

I'm not real sure why they said that, but it was set to status-by-design. I'm not sure the C# one is supposed to allow us to use it or not.
I can write some VB.NET - enough to port most of our relevant diagnostics over and test them.

most of the ones I end up coming up with just turn out to be toys

@Quill I don't want to be Mr. Negative here, but I don't see a case for it in The 2nd, mainly for that reason.

how is that a toy? two messages a day, no interaction

Because posting the highest voted q/a would likely only serve to just garner more upvotes.
This is useful on naruto answers because they haven't received a lot of attention
But on the highest voted, well, they've already received a lot of attention
Go ahead and do it for educational purposes, but I'm with @Mast: I don't see a bot like that having much practical use
