@RikerW comestible soldiers drop
Okay.
Soldiers?
@Doorknob I agree
too bad I have never gotten to castle though
I did get a buttload of k rations the one time I got to fort and they sure were handy
@Doorknob the word "even" has an actual definition for integers and it's not that
Ok I fixed it, itll take a minute or two for it to update though
04:14
@RikerW a monster (or rather a family of monsters)
They are human (@)
@AlexA. @RikerW ok its done
Im considering linking an iconic post to each one of the "bounties"
"Be Taylor"?
Swift?
Rikers idea
Uh, okay.
Peter Taylor Im Guessing
04:16
why is serial upvoting bot the first one?
WHY SO MANY QUESTIONS
but you do have a good point @RikerW
@GamrCorps I know he means Peter Taylor, but his suggestion was "Be Peter," IIRC.
yes that is correct
@GamrCorps you should change the cursor on the names of the ups. The hand with a red circle is pretty jarring and unexpected
Red circle?
04:19
Ok, now it is just a button that does nothing
I don't see a red circle on mine
@GamrCorps I didn't mean to change the actual thing, the disabled button looked good
I meant to put a css on it
that changes the cursor to default
Im new to bootstrap, now sure how to do that
its not bootstrap, just normal css
OH I see what you mean
04:21
I have 7.0 UPS :O
11.0
@GamrCorps when you load the page the UPS text says 0 but then when the per second interval runs, it changes to 0.0
Yeah I noticed that too, not sure why that happens
cuz the UPS label says 0
it should say 0.0 in your html
Shit dawg, 20.0 UPS
04:26
also, the cursor should be default not pointer
30 UPS
Oy, @Maltysen. Fix this.
All you need is a little !
@Maltysen thanks. Bootstrap automatically changes the cursor, but at least it matches the other buttons now
@AlexA. fiiiiine
wait nevermind, it is the right cursor...
@AlexA. theres also another problem
but ill fix both

Assuming you can click 16 times per second (or whatever your speed is) and it takes 0.5 seconds to buy a new item, calculate the optimum strategy for playing Cookie Golfer
you should put that on the game page. won't help anyone with it currently open but new players will see it
@Doorknob wait what happened with pudding farming in 3.6
@Ampora lol
@Ampora i was going to say "close as dupe of" and link a similar challenge but then i remembered that it was a google code jam question not a ppcg one
Yeah that seems like something that someone would have thought of
04:42
Alright guys Im going to bed. If you have any questions or comments just ping me and Ill see them in the morning. Night!
@GamrCorps Second sandboxed question!
134 UPS
Good night!
It feels like it would be hard to implement here, because a lot of info would have to be hardcoded into the program, like it initially costing 500 to get a good answer
So it's probably best left to our friends at Code Review
04:42
I was going to go into explore mode and practice it (maybe it might help me) but it says on the wiki it is useless
@Ampora And imagine the confusion caused in the explanations
ok Im going now for real
good night for real
Real night
That game makes me feel bad for Geobits
Turn that upvote upside down!
Actually wait, what about a Cookie Golfer KOTH
how would that work
Lesson learned: Just because my language has string compression doesn't mean I should to use it.
No idea, I've never made a KOTH
But it would seem like there could be x actions performed per second, and the bots would have strategies for buying/selling upgrades or clicking with those x actions
@Dennis what happened
04:48
@Dennis haha
@quartata He compressed a string and it snapped and cut off a finger
i don't see how it would work as a KOTH because they're all totally independant. also an optimal solution would probably be found pretty quick
2

(see revisions)
I guess so
now, if there was some way for them to interact you could maybe make something interesting out of it
once one bot buys an upgrade the bot it is "dueling" cannot buy it?
04:52
hmm
i was thinking something like
separate instances of cookie golfer and you can "travel" between the one you're at and an "adjacent" one as one or more of your actions
and one bot's actions influence UPS and the other bot's actions influence DownvotesPS
i like that
would the score be upvotes after x amount of time?
What about first to X points?
my first thought was if you're the upvote bot you win if after X time there are more positive instances than negative ones
so you're trying to control as much of the board as possible
but i don't know if that's best
My thought - 2 bots and two jars of cookies they are trying to fill to (WLOG) 1000. They initially start off with 1 cookie per minute and can (in equal amounts of time) buy upgrades or downgrades, make 10 cookies, or travel to the other side of the kitchen.
that sounds good
05:02
Well, whoever wants to make that KOTH is welcome to go ahead. Best of luck, and good night!

@Dennis Wow! I have no idea how it works (other than catalan. Amazing!! And it doesn't depend on the length of the unwanted output, right? \o/
@Dennis Just one consideration: this does the warm-up even if no symbolic functions are used, which will slow execution a bit, often unnecessarily. Do you think it's worth to do the warm-up only when needed? That information can only be known after matl has processed the input file, though; therefore it might be tricky. In your experience with other languages , and considering your server load, do you think the delay is acceptable? Should we worry about it?

@LuisMendo Yes and no. tail -n +6 simply discards the first 5 lines of output, which should remain the same unless there are major changes to symbolic.
@LuisMendo Starting up Octave requires 210 ms CPU time with the warmup and 140 ms without. The average server load right 5 % right now, so I wouldn't worry about it. The impact on wall time is a little larger (400 ms). I could look into running Octave as a daemon.
How to undo base conversion for Cjam?
@ChristianIrwan Undo a base-conversion? Do you mean converting back to base-10?
@ChristianIrwan By the way, what do you mean by "you have to describe the sequence"? Was that related to the built-in ban?
I can only think of folding
13:56
@ChristianIrwan CJam's base conversion returns an array of digits (5 2b -> [1 0 1]). Pass an array of similar sorts to reverse ([1 0 1]2b -> 5)
@ChristianIrwan b works both for base-to-integer and integer-to-base... ^ ninja'd
@GamrCorps Thanks
@Katenkyo I mean what is the sequence and what is the formula for that sequence? BTW, your linked website works, but it is frowned upon.
@ChristianIrwan The original sequence is this one with a reference implementation in haskell
I don't think there's a formula to generate it, it must be done throught an algorythm
In facts, there's a ton of implementation (java, python) so feel free to check if you find something that you prefer

@Katenkyo sigh, explain it in the question, not link it.
@ChristianIrwan I though that saying this sequence was constructed by simply describing the precedent element was sufficient
I will rephrase the post a little
The way i describe the look-and-say sequence is "each term is the run-length encoding of the previous term, with each run of x y's being replaced by the pair of numbers xy"
@quintopia do you mind if I quote you?

^ Why I missed you
That sort of humor punctuates the discussion and gives me a reason to go back to work
3
Ouch.
@Dennis I have no idea how to send commands to a running Octave process :-(
@Geobits That wasn't meant as an insult :-/
15:06
I'm not really wounded, either ;)
15:22
@LuisMendo I would do that from the wrapper script. There seem to be some security implications though. I'll read a bit more about it before making an attempt.
@Dennis Anyway, the delay is perfectly acceptable and the server load is low, so not really needed?
Firing up MATL takes 600 ms right now. It's definitely noticeable, but not that bad, no.
@Dennis A clumsy way to avoid unnecessarily warming up symbolc would be to detect if the MATL program contains symbolic functions. Currently only function Y$ is symbolic. You could read the MATL source code for Y$ (possibly with false positives, no need to actually parse). What I don't like about this solution is that it's hard-coded: if I change that funtion's name or add others you need to change your calling script
Or I could put symbolic functions' names in a file that the script would read? That solves the hard-coding issue. The file would be included in the compatibility folder of the MATL compiler
15:41
how can you cast int/char/string to string with the same method? eg [1 '1 "2"] => ["1" "2" "3"]
@Dennis I can't even imagine such a thing
@LuisMendo Also, that would only get right of roughly half of the startup time. Firing up Octave w/o symbolic isn't exactly fast either.
I'll leave it as it is for now, but I think I'll create daemons later. Some languages (cough Jelly cough) take half a second to fire up.
@Dennis how long does octave take?
oh in CJam, I forgot that part
@randomra usually, there's something like string(int/char/string) that should work, or concatenating with an empty string
15:43
@randomra :s should do it.
@Dennis thanks, I only searched in the extended docs, that's why I couldn't find it
@quintopia Jelly takes 650 ms. Octave takes 200 ms w/o symbolic and 600 ms with.
It's a slow server.
I'll upgrade to better hardware if traffic increases or I get a generous donation. Whatever happens first. ;)
@Dennis I think Jelly TIO is quite fast!
@Dennis Is it you own physical server?
@Dennis time for adsense? :P
15:50
No, it's a cheap VPS from DigitalOcean.
@quintopia Never. I despise ads.
@LuisMendo It's OK. I barely notice the lag because my internet connection lags a lot more. It's definitely noticeable on the command line though.
@Dennis time for a bitcoin address on every interp?
This answer doesn't fulfill the OP requirements, still has 2 upvotes. Is it too harsh to downvote? The OP said he would fix it, but hasn't done so yet

A: Look, up in the sky! It's a super duper array!

MaltysenPyth - 54 52 bytes The string formatting part can probably be golfed, but I like the super-duper testing approach. jd++"It's a"fT*V+R"uper""sd"m*F>VtQd,sMK._Q*MK"array Test Suite.

@quintopia My current setup costs me $6/month for the droplet (w/weekly backups) and something negligible for the domain name, so I'll just pay it out of my pocket. If traffic requires me to go for something bigger, I guess I could add a donation button.
@Dennis I think you could allow yourself to put it anyway, that's a nice service you provide there.
By the way, what's the average uniq visitor/month ? ^^
@LuisMendo As long as you undownvote after the problem is fixed, I don't think it's harsh at all.
15:59
I agree with the donation button!
@Dennis I'm tossing money at my screen but nothing's happening
hahaha
@TimmyD depending on which type of money, something can happen
Fair point
@Katenkyo I'm not sure. I guess I could grep through access.log for unique IPs...
16:01
I smell a new challenge
:-D
Anyway, most IP's are dynamic, aren't they?
Maybe a simple Donate button in the top bar, next to the Debug button and with the same style. That wouldn't ruin the design, and I could offer different options on a dedicated page.
Since I'm lazy otherwise occupied, I'm creating this challenge for you to solve. Given an access.log input, output the unique IP addresses overall and per day.
@Dennis Don't bother doing it if you don't have the data in your hands already, it's just curiosity ^^
@LuisMendo My home cable Internet connection is nominally dynamic, but I think I've had the same actual IP for the past three years...
16:04
@TimmyD Oh really? I should check mine at home
Most IP are dynamic, but in fact you usually keep the same ( except when in a private network)
I forgot to say I'm one of those rare people that turn off their router at least once a day
@LuisMendo Why? Oo
I don't know... to me it's a bit like turning the light off when you exit a room :-)
I internet connection must've dropped at least 10 times today. DSL is awful here.
16:07
@LuisMendo Would you plug-off your company internet connection at night? That's the same thing ^^
There's things that's better left as it is ^^
@Dennis its actually Luis turning off the router :P
hahahaha
@Katenkyo At night my computer is off, my phone is in plane mode. There's nothing using the internet connection , so...

Boy, Android 6 sure is a step back from Cyanogen, even if it was based on Android 4.4.
16:09
Android 6? When?
@TimmyD sounds like
is there such a thing as "vanilla" android?
Google Nexus ... that's probably closest.
@LuisMendo Everyone have their habits, mine's up because that's a thing I hate to reboot ^^
Yes, I just got a Nexus 6.

16:14

@Dennis other than file i/o what are things an interp can't do in safe mode?
@NathanMerrill I made a few modifications to the OS that didn't work out with CM 12 (?, whatever was based on Lollipop). Mainly a custom theme and the OMNI switch.
@Dennis Why the stars are lost?
@Dennis its nice when things are open source and you can do that\
whispers to himself that it is good that the stars are lost, then leaves

does he change his shoes each day instead?

@Dennis No, I didn't star these.
@flawr Are you playing Cookie Clicker?
Yes, resumed the session from yesterday=)
Saving up for another antimatter condensor.
16:38
I am currently writing the most useless lab report ever.
@flawr Why would you do this?
So, I wrote a program as compsci homework, which just took a 2D array and made one twice the size.
Now I need to write a report on it.
There's like nothing to report.
What context?
I'm not sure what you mean? This is the 2nd level of an intro-to-compsci -type course at my university.
So the task was just "take a 2d array and make it twice the size"?
like, so that there's 4 copies of each old item
along with some boilerplate I/O stuff, that was basically it
16:47
It this going to be the new thing? Stuff that almost crashes but then doesn't?
This one is nowhere close to crashing.
