@Dennis It seems there's no direct way to avoid the unwanted output on screen. I have identified two possible workarounds. (1) Octave allows temporarily changing the pager program that controls stdout. Do you think it would be possible to have a pager in your server that simply discards output? (I don't know much about this, specially on Linux). Then I could call a symbolic function as warmup with output to that pager, and then switch to normal pager for the actual program.

@Dennis (2) Another possibility is to redirect MATL output to a file (there's an Octave function for that), right after the warmup. The ouput window of the online compiler would need to read from that file, instead of from stdout as it does now. I'd have to check that the output that Octave sends to the file is exactly the same that gets actually sent to stdout.
