DUDE SAME THING!
My computer is doing this to me too!
@FlagAsSpam
I reboot and it becomes fixed though.

@zyabin101 The Sandbox room is not the place to discuss general programming questions.

@RikerW WHERE DID WIZ GO >:O

8:17 PM
@RikerW Odd that two people claimed to be Alex.

@AlexA. Socks abound.

Wow, that's a lot of views in one week

its a pretty original question

@AshwinGupta @zyabin's suggestion of discussing general programming questions in the Sandbox room is not correct. The Sandbox room is for testing out chat features. You can get the kind of help you're after on chat.stackoverflow.com. :)

Q: Lets play some Skat! (kinda)

DenkerAffeIntroduction Skat is a traditional German card game which is played by 3 players. The deck consists 32 cards which are Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7 in all 4 suits (Clubs, Spades, Hearts, Diamonds). In every round there is always one player playing solo while the other two play against hi...

8:25 PM
Hello=)
Happy people?

Hello :)
I think I'm obsessed with the detect-starred-messages challenge

I still like my solution quite a lot=)

@NewMainPosts this is an awesome first challenge

@ETHproductions What software do you use to implement your font design?

@ETHproductions I haven't participated. I think I'd like it more if it wasn't restricted to 50 bytes and the score was simply the percent correct classifications on a validation set.

8:27 PM
@AlexA. then everyone would have 100%, no?

^

You can't get 100%. There are some duplicate between the lists.

Well, everyone would have the maximum score then

@Doorknob Not if you set it up properly. You give a training set for people to set up their classifiers, then a validation set on which they calculate the score. The validation set can't be used to train the classifier.

@flawr I mainly use FontStruct.

8:29 PM
But I have to admit that with the restrictions it is also kind of a lottery, but you can easily get obsessed=)
@ETHproductions No metafont?=)
I love the arrow-font=)

Gif or Jif?

@flawr I did think it was hilarious that you got 60% correct classifications just by testing whether the message contained the word "star" XD
@RikerW Gif

I personally like it better with the 50-byte limit. I think it's more challenging this way; get it as perfect as you can while keeping it small.

@AlexA. With the current one do just test the length=)
(Well keep in mind that rand() can get 50% too=)

8:31 PM
@flawr I've never heard of Metafont, but it looks cool. I'll have to check it out soon.
@flawr Thanks, I like that one too :)

@RikerW you're missing the "who cares" option

You know, gifs are at least funny, jif = peanut butter = eeek

LOL, the latest Metafont release is 2.7182818

?

The number e is an important mathematical constant that is the base of the natural logarithm. It is approximately equal to 2.71828, and is the limit of (1 + 1/n)n as n approaches infinity, an expression that arises in the study of compound interest. It can also be calculated as the sum of the infinite series The constant can be defined in many ways. For example, e can be defined as the unique positive number a such that the graph of the function y = ax has unit slope at x = 0. The function f(x) = ex is called the exponential function, and its inverse is the natural logarithm, or logarithm to base...

Q: A register calculator challenge

BobA simple register calculator This challenge involve a simple register calculator that works in the following way: It has some registers named A,B,C,...,Z, each of them can contain an integer, they are all initialized to 0. It executes instructions of 3 characters: The first character of any in...

oh=)

@ETHproductions and TeX converges towards pi

Perfect timing.
@MartinBüttner Not sure yet=)

@flawr Thank you, thank you. I'm here all day, folks.

8:33 PM
iirc Knuth's will says that once he dies neither software should ever be changed again with their versions locked exactly at the irrational constants

@Doorknob Even if you don't care, I've heard you say "jif."

haha, I say it "jif," but I really don't care either way how anyone else says it

I think we could too make a challenge like the one from XKCD: Write a program that calssifies images as "bird" or "national park".

@Doorknob That's fair. But I care how you say it, and you say it incorrectly. :P

@AlexA. [citation-needed] :P

8:37 PM
Here, take that citation:

ಠ_ಠ

haha
That looks more like an airplane than a citation, but what do I know? I'm not a pilot.

@AlexA. Cessna Citation!

Ohhhh. ಠ_ಠ

8:38 PM
I'm surprised it isn't crashing
knowing flawr

I'm sure this is the "before" shot and he'll be posting the "after" shortly.

Here we go:
Whaat

ftfy

...as I said

I guess people never change

8:40 PM
You have to live up to the expectations.

:P

That plane thought it was a grasshopper.
So what do you think of that challenge I suggested?
7 mins ago, by flawr
I think we could too make a challenge like the one from XKCD: Write a program that calssifies images as "bird" or "national park".

Give me a research team and five years and I'll accept it.

> He figured they'd have the problem solved by the end of the summer. Half a century later, we're still working on it.
Prooooooobably too hard

8:45 PM
Well I think if you wanna be really successful, but I like the idea of

lol battery test
See if the batteries have charge left in them

"Given an image of a battery, return the percentage of its charge."

Closed as impossible

We need a "Minimal Dwarf Fortress" challenge.

Aren't dwarves already minimal?

8:46 PM
Ninjenga

@flawr Tried that with @Alex's avatar, but it wouldn't do anything...

@ETHproductions I just tried it, but it says it is a bird.

@RikerW ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The entire thing would be 1 dwarf and 1 forgotten beast in a tiny room.

8:48 PM
@ETHproductions Clearly I'm a park

@PhiNotPi and a cat
don't forget the cats

@flawr It even says it is a nice shot! :P

8:49 PM
12 gauge

@Alex Did you take that impressive photo yourself?

@ETHproductions Photo of what? My avatar is a painting...
@flawr ._.

@AlexA. lol

I had temporary dyslexia trying to read "Hey! Nice bird shot!"

Oh @Doorknob sorry about the wizard.

8:51 PM
Kept coming out "Hey man nice shot"

Haha, recently watched a video of an american living in germany. And she talked about how shocked she was when she saw offers for "wedding shootings" or "birthday shootings"
But "shooting" = "photo shoot" in "german"

Oh haha

4 hours ago, by RikerW
@Doorknob what is Vim?
This has 12 stars.

@flawr parkour-bird?

8:53 PM
:P
Why people why?
Really, why?

And many people are not aware what the actualy meaning is in english.

I've started an analysis of the lists of starred and unstarred messages: gist.github.com/ETHproductions/425cbf398353684b37bd

@TimmyD Haha that's what I thought it was when I first saw the URL
@ETHproductions s/analyzation/analysis/

@AlexA. Ah, thanks

9:11 PM
I'm not used to getting so many green internet points for such simple questions: superuser.com/questions/1027499/…

Laa laa laa.

@Doorknob I swear that @ sign at the top was made with FontStruct...

I was expecting a game where you hack a network

^ Mona Lisa of dogs.

The name comes from Hack, an earlier, similar game.

@flawr I'm addicted now, why did you show me this

@flawr AAAAHHHHHHHHHH CUTENESS HAS OVERFLOWED
@Maltysen My girlfriend was really into that game for a while. She even set up an autoclicker to continuously click at an absurd rate while she wasn't at the computer. Eventually she lost interest and was able to break free. :P

9:24 PM
I was only able to finish when I had all badges.
But there is an award for getting 1M cookies without clickin once!
I even made a spreadsheet that calculated the best investment given the current "workforce"=)

XD
That's dedication

Somehow you have to make those hours at work go past

"Your cookies now have their own website!" I'm starting to take off :)

@flawr "Cheap hoes" rofl

You can buy click doublers.
On the top right=)
(And other "boosters"

9:34 PM
I'm at 5.7k cookies atm, going to get the third click doubler at 10k
Or maybe the mine.... gotta decide

"There are now museums dedicated to your cookies."

So how is my answer?
can we talk about it in the golfer's corner?

9:42 PM
i killed someone with my cookies

"A national day of honor has been dedicated to your cookies." I can't imagine much higher honor than that, guess I'll just have to wait and see

What is the name of your cookie factories btw?

@Maltysen good god

Hello?

@flawr The factories have a name?

9:44 PM

Sorry, the "bakeries" (top left)

http://orteil.dashnet.org/cookieclicker/

How do you play?

Click the cookie until you can buy stuff=)

Who is grandma?

@TanMath she gives you more cps

9:52 PM
Cool!
Two grandmas are cool!

I hope you all noticed that you can also sell stuff.

@flawr is that feature useful?

Like cookies?

Yeah, I sold a factory to buy a mine a little bit ago
And then left for a few and now I have 200k cookies...

Are you guys talking about cookie clicker????

9:56 PM
Yeah

@GamrCorps How did you find out? 0.o

Hold on I need to find something...

What and how do you sell?

817.0 cps! Hahaha!

@ETHproductions OMFG Im still at 500

9:56 PM
I am still at only about 200 cookies...

@ETHproductions 890 ;P

Found it!
So I made a program for this!
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.InputEvent;

public class CookieClicker {
    public static void main (String[] args) throws AWTException, InterruptedException {
        int clicks = 10000;
        int delay = 2; //In ms, MORE THAN 1!!

        Thread.sleep(500);
        Robot robot = new Robot();
        for (int i = 0; i < clicks; i++) {
            robot.mousePress(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);
            Thread.sleep(delay);
            robot.mouseRelease(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);
            Thread.sleep(delay);

@TanMath Hover over a buyable item that you've purchased and click "Sell"

@GamrCorps Cheater.

lol

9:57 PM
What is the point now?

@Maltysen 917!

@TanMath Baking cookies.

@ETHproductions 1k

So if you sell, you get more cookies?

9:59 PM
Hahahahaha, set up a JS bot to click the cookie 100 times/sec for me >:-)

Cool!
