@Calvin'sHobbies Oh, this helps
First place! :P

There are rankings? I don't see

Yes, by number of tiles you put in the right place (I think)
I had 31, and El'endia had 20
CH2 had -1 apparently :P
Anyway, time to go to sleep for me

Python people: threading.Timer is in seconds, right?

@Calvin'sHobbies Oh SHIT

Make the puzzle here

@TanMath sorry for the late reply. With the new approach my latest tip is irrelevant.

@AlexA. - is this answer valid?
You can test it more quickly and easily than I... :P

haha
@El'endiaStarman Yes it is

One more puzzle: Ubuntu

oh gosh

Yea...
Which ones are correct :o

@Calvin'sHobbies the square ones

@AlexA. You arent even playing

no, he's not

Whats kubuntu?

Ubuntu + KDE
The one true Desktop Environment for Linux.

5:28 AM
Dennis is not wrong

shit KDE look nice
I should install it
is it just an apt-get install?

In theory, yes. If you do not have another KDE version already, that should just work.

do I? I installed ubuntu 14

Out of the box, Ubuntu comes with only one DE. For the main release, that's Unity.

yeah that's what I'm using now. Plasma looks wayyyyyy better

5:32 AM
It is.

kde not found on apt-get

Not sure if the 14.04 repos have Plasma 4 or 5. They're quite different.

what's it called

No clue. I haven't ubuntu'd in a while.

@Maltysen Unity is better ducks

5:33 AM
apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

@AlexA. the launcher is HORRIBLE
thanks
you have to click down-arrow even to select the first one that comes up

That gets you the entire package. The Plasma desktop and all KDE apps.

cool

Oh shoot, I accidentally skipped another night.

of...?

5:38 AM
@Dennis 5 seems to be another repo

Sleep, I guess.

Question: one of my answers has trailing newlines at the end of its results

@Cyoce Not of. I forgot to sleep. It's 7am now.

@Maltysen Plasma 5 is supposed to be way better, but I haven't used it myself. IIRC< starting with 15.04, Plasma 5 is the default.

@mınxomaτ ...accidentally?

5:40 AM
@Sherlock9 Which language?

The question itself (which I posted) doesn't say anything about trailing newlines, but it does say "no trailing delimiter". I'm a little leery of changing the rules to explicitly allow newlines. Should I just add bytes to my answer so there aren't newlines?
@Dennis Python 2

I should just upgrade to 15

@AlexA. I usually don't get tired. I'll just stay awake and go to bed today at 10pm or so.

._.
MMMMMM

5:43 AM
@Sherlock9 We usually allow trailing newlines, since they are quite difficult (or even impossible) to eliminate in some languages. It is quite painful in Python 2.

Oh hallelujah

(that's coffee liqueur being poured over cupcakes but it looks like toxic waste)

@Calvin'sHobbies Well, that wasn't easy.

Some Lemmy? Is there more than one?

Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister (24 December 1945 – 28 December 2015) was an English musician, singer, and songwriter. He was best known as the lead vocalist, bassist, principal songwriter, founder, and sole constant member of the rock band Motörhead as well as having been a member of Hawkwind. == Early lifeEdit == Lemmy was born on Christmas Eve in the Burslem area of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. When Lemmy was three months old, his father, an ex-Royal Air Force chaplain, separated from his mother. C++ people: Any difference between defining an abstract class as class A; versus class A {};?
I assume not, but I know nothing

@Dennis is plasma-workspace all the other apps?

Dennis went to bed

o

@AlexA. There is in fact a difference: the latter works and the former causes errors.
More specifically, it errors when you try to create derived classes, like class B : A {...}; It will tell you base class has incomplete type.

that shouldn't be allowed
it messed everything up

should I allow negative scores?

I would say one guess per pair

7:25 AM
also, how about correct=+10, wrong=-5
@AlexA. I could do that, but that's more work than changing two numbers ;P

Probably true
If it were me, I'd do that with right = +1, wrong = 0.

also, the actual game is two minutes, but its 30 sec for dev

As someone who is often wrong, I don't like being penalized for wrongness. Better to keep wrong = 0.
Or if you want to make it even more challenging, a single wrong could reset your score to 0.

that seems too harsh

You know what else is harsh? Sandpaper.

7:34 AM
true
I could rub them with sandpaper whenever they get it wrong
i'm sure there's an HTML5 api for that

They may not have made the cut for 5, but I think it might be in HTML6-dev.
C++ question: What happens if you declare a member variable in a class with auto? Will you be able to have different types for that variable in different instances of the class?
Answer: Errors. Lots and lots of errors.

strangely enough, there was a game over screen that was showing up on localhost, but wasn't showing up when I was playing with you guys

Is that pancake batter?

yes
fun fact
before this rule was added to chess: "The king and the chosen rook are on the player's first rank when castling."
you could move a pawn to the other side of the board, and never move the king
promote the pawn to a rook
and then castle across the board
since the new rook has never moved

haha, wow
I wonder what that game must've been like that made them add that rule. :P

Q: What is Winter Bash and Hats?

Christian IrwanI can't access code-golf because of a problem. And when I entered, there is a winter bash. And hats. My question is: What is winter bash and what is hats? What is the purpose of that? How it works?

but i like it
so now it's a feature
yeah it works
nice
the only loop/branch you can do in pb is w[0=0]{} or w[0!0]{} where the 0s are expressions
the first is while the expressions evaluate to the same thing, the second is while they don't
the only validation i do on those expressions is that all non-pb characters are stripped from the source code before any execution happens
if an expression is made entirely of pb characters, it's assumed to be allowed and just fed to python's eval
but < and > are both in the language, just used as something entirely different. those characters won't be stripped out
so i can do, for example, w[2>1=1]{}
(i still have to have the = or ! or it won't parse, it has to be compared against something)
that was never my intention but it's kinda neat

that's doorknob

Can someone tell me what's wrong with my position on REPLs?

A: When is code that requires a REPL acceptable?

Thomas KwaAlways— but a REPL is a different language. We usually define languages by their interpreters. My Python shell is an interpreter, which satisfies our definition of a programming language. Therefore, it is a valid language. "Wait a minute", you say, "won't REPLs usually be shorter than their ful...

It seems like the most natural rule.

4:02 PM
Ehh... I'm indifferent.
excpet REPLs do make sense as a lanugage...

@ThomasKwa Currently I see your answer as the one that makes most sense, even though it has a lower score. I'd love to see an answer that defines why a REPL is not acceptable, but I think you are right that there is no objective way to do that.
Remember that downvotes on Meta can just as easily mean "I don't like this" as "I have a logical objection"

I wouldn't like if REPL answers would get common, but you can't really do anything against it, just discourage it. I feel the same way about "languages" which just substitute other languages longer words. We have a lot of languages already.

There will be answers that cleverly exploit features of the REPL that aren't in the parent language; that's a reason to allow them. (I can't think of one right now, though)

@ThomasKwa You could edit and add extra points to your meta post if you wish, which may change the minds of some of the voters (after editing a downvoter is able to change their vote).
