Chat poll thingy: What primality test should I use in pl?

trial division

Also, nothing probabilistic please.
@PhiNotPi OK.
1 vote for trial division.

@FlagAsSpam what?

9:05 PM
Anyone else?

@Doorknob冰 My carrots disappear.
Is there a reason for that?

ooookay...?

@FlagAsSpam That's because I ate them.
nom nom

^ I did not delete this.

@FlagAsSpam mm delicious

9:06 PM
@quartata y u no liek probabilistic?

Got any parsnips?

Also, what is pl?

@Dennis Because I can't use them in the prime catalog thingy.

@quartata Parsnips are icky.

@Dennis The language I'm making

9:06 PM
weird

Sadly doth butter no parsnips

My monologue on why it's cool starts from there.

The links are the same, exactly.

You're on SE's no-carrot list.

@quartata Oh dude I made parsnip fries once. Oven roasted with salt, pepper, and rosemary, then once they're out of the oven a very light pinch of curry powder. Rosemary with curry powder sounds crazy weird but these were legit.

9:08 PM
@quartata ECPP if it isn't too much work.

@AlexA. I actually really like parsnips
1 vote for the hardest primality test

it's more or less the standard deterministic fast method, from what I can tell on the internet.

@quartata They are good.

@quartata That seems like a bad reason. One question against all the possible use cases where speed is important.

9:09 PM
Oh you probably didn't get the joke because you're from the UK
The No Fly List is a list, created and maintained by the United States government's Terrorist Screening Center (TSC), of people who are not permitted to board a commercial aircraft for travel in or out of the United States. The list has also been used to divert aircraft, not flying to or from the U.S, away from U.S. airspace. The number of people on the list rises and falls according to threat and intelligence reporting. There were 10,000 names on the list in 2011, 21,000 in 2012, and 47,000 in 2013. The list—along with the Secondary Security Screening Selection, which tags would-be passengers...

@Dennis C'mon :D

Maybe if I called it "carrot watch list"

@quartata ಠ_ಠ I just live here. I was born in Texas.

@FlagAsSpam Oh.

I was born in Maryland, but somehow I ended up in Texas.

9:10 PM
@Rainbolt I'm so sorry.

I was born in Washington and am still in Washington.

@quartata ಠ_ಠ

I was born in Missouri and wound up in Texas.

@quartata I guess that means I shouldn't expect any pull requests in the near future...

9:10 PM
@Dennis Oh don't worry you'll get some

@AlexA. I’m wearing one hat in my avatar. Have been since at least yesterday.

It appears Texas has a strong gravitational force.

Jelly is cool too

@Timwi Weird, it doesn't show up in chat.

@AlexA. That's because he's only wearing it on PPCG and his parent site is set to SO

9:11 PM
Oh, you must not be wearing it on Stack Overflow because that's your chat parent account.

@Timwi SO is the only site where you have to enable hats manually.

In the meantime, enjoy some unreadable code

@Timwi That is both amazing and terrifying

OK do I have the hat now?

No, but caching

Cashing

9:14 PM
Oh, now you enabled hats on SO but you're still not wearing one there

I like cashews.

the headset is for voting on 10 things from the app, right?

@Doorknob冰 How come?

@undergroundmonorail Aye
@Timwi You need to manually don it

@Timwi Maybe try going to some random other site's profile and just hitting "wear this hat" again? I guess it doesn't automagically update.

9:15 PM
@AlexA. thanks dawg

@undergroundmonorail Yo no problem brah

now to find 10 things worth voting on
which will not be hard

there are lots of things

i firmly believe that voting a lot is important but i'm also too lazy to actually vote a lot so there are a lot of things i should vote on

I’ve got the hat on, on SO and codegolf.SE and codereview.SE and english.SE.

9:16 PM
@undergroundmonorail Pretty much how I feel about voting too
@Timwi I see it in chat now! (after a refresh)

@undergroundmonorail Downvotes have more impact than upvotes; use them if you want to contribute.

@Doorknob冰 I don't think I would translate it like that.

@El'endiaStarman How do you know @Geobits isn't a sock of me?

@AlexA. Well, it's Bing translate, sooo...

@ThomasKwa Usually but I suppose not necessarily

@Dennis Concerning smbf online, how do you plan on allowing the user to enter hex literals in the source, like a literal \x00?

-.- Multiple sets of ears.
Oh, crap.
I just posted that as a question.
>.> So much for sandboxing.

The MathJax bonus doesn't make a lot of sense since the formulas will already be valid MathJax.

you should have sandboxed it

here's an unrelated question
if you go to subway and get a sub on anything other than flatbread
why

Because the flatbread contains dairy

I really want to see an answer in Hexagony for this question. — Ampora 14 mins ago
I knew someone would say that... -.-

@AlexA. does it?

(partly, because I think it's been posted on every single challenge since I created Hexagony)

9:35 PM
@undergroundmonorail Yes

@MartinBüttner You signed yourself up for this.

@MartinBüttner people make that observation all the time for tons of languages whenever the question is about the language. "i would love for someone to answer this brainfuck related question in brainfuck!" "the question literally requires randomization have you ever used brainfuck"
@AlexA. huh

@undergroundmonorail well, I actually already thought about how I might be able to solve it in Hexagony...

9:38 PM
I'm not sure I'll have the patience though.

By the way, my 50 points on the nexagonal maze question for a Hexagony answer or a short answer expires tomorrow. It's up for grabs, because no golfing languages have entered yet.

oh
I didn't even see that

9:41 PM
i wasn't even looking for it i just happened to notice it while going through the tag you linked :D

that's why I don't put up language-specific bounties with a deadline :P
anyway, BFS in Hexagony... probably not gonna happen :D

@ThomasKwa Not a big enough bounty to go through such agony. :D

The agony of the hex

@MartinBüttner in my head i was like "big fucking sword... big fucking sword... why did martin say big fucking sword" and then i figured it out

@undergroundmonorail Still makes sense, though. :D

9:43 PM
i suppose that you're correct in that
most likely, there will not be a big fucking sword in hexagony

Maybe you're right. I'll offer 200 points, no deadline, for the first Hexagony answer there that goes 2 weeks without being outgolfed.

Impossibru.

@Timwi's probably already on it :P

well Christmas holidays are coming up... maybe I'll be bored and deliver on some of the half dozen "I really want a Hexagony answer to this" comments that have been scattered around the site :P

9:45 PM
@MartinBüttner What's your estimation of the final size?

@MartinBüttner That's the (holiday) spirit!

@ThomasKwa *holds out hands* about yay big

@ThomasKwa more than 5 bytes, I think.
probably even more than 6.

will it be more than 300?

@NewMainPosts Interesting thing about this is that you basically can't use builtins because of the output on inability to integrate.

9:46 PM
pretty sure, yeah ;) ... although I currently have no clue how I'd even implement BFS in Hexagony without golfing it

@FlagAsSpam try/catch?

@undergroundmonorail I mean like Mathematica's Integrate.

i do not know how mathematica works re: integration

@Martin good; I don't regret the 200 points then

@undergroundmonorail It will attempt to find an integral with any tricks it knows, resorting to brute force for some (if I know correctly).

9:48 PM
oh, neat

How does one symbolically integrate using brute force?

@ThomasKwa No clue.

I was wrong. :P

@flawr Windows skipped version 9. I heard the joke first on reddit.

9:52 PM
@ThomasKwa I was asking regarding your question about integration!

^ Without some context, this is hilarious.

@undergroundmonorail This is news to me

there's a band called alexisonfire but i'm fairly certain it's pronounced "alexis on fire"

9:54 PM
@MartinBüttner Only in my imagination :)

@flawr oh, that was regarding Flasp's comment about Mma resorting to brute force in its Integrate.

@ThomasKwa Which was wholly incorrect - I thought I read this somewhere, but apparently not.
:D I went up 6k in 2 days.

10:03 PM
Well then.
My hat is better now.
Wait, no, this is even better.
Load?

@Dennis I've added slice as well as monadic and dyadic pop functions to my fork of Jelly.
I kinda just picked whatever for the characters :P

I must learn Jelly. >.>

You can take a look if you want. I'm testing it right now to make sure it works.
@FlagAsSpam Don't learn it if you don't know APL or J already

I don't, so that's good. :D

It doesn't make any sense if you don't understand how those languages work
Learn those first

10:07 PM
o.o Dammit.

Otherwise you're gonna have a bad time

Yus.
My hat updated.

@FlagAsSpam Totally not an animated gif

10:09 PM
It is formed as the most annoying hat ever created.
@quartata 'Course not.
That's totally loading.
It loaded for me already.
This image is beautiful:

@FlagAsSpam You have an incredibly distorted ideal of beauty.

^ This is true.
Also, I cannot see what I'm typing for the first 6 or so characters.
Mistakes have been made.
@El'endiaStarman Have you seen my integration question yet? :D
So hats apparently load, but don't go away...

@FlagAsSpam Symbolic integration of polynomials? Yes.

That seems right up your alley. :D

@El'endiaStarman Link?

10:17 PM
@quartata i always forget how good megalovania is

@undergroundmonorail You should try the kazoo version.

@FlagAsSpam Meh. Working on Spacewar! code.

@quartata have you heard the version with the kazoo cover and the heavy metal cover layered over top of each other? it's really really good

@undergroundmonorail No I haven't

i'll see if i can find it

10:18 PM
I was wondering if someone remixed the kazoo version Tsuko did though

Heyyyyyy, @NinjaBearMonkey is here!

@undergroundmonorail whoa

Q: Hats Load on Pages, but don't always go away

Q: Prime Concatenation Order

Alex A.Consider the following procedure. Given an integer $n \geq 2$, obtain the canonical prime factorization of $n$, i.e. $\prod_{i=1}^k p_i^{e_i}$. Take the distinct factors $p_i$ and list them in ascending order. Concatenate them into a new integer. That is, 2 and 5 becomes 25, 3 and 7 becomes 37, ...

Calling all math people
halp

@GamrCorps I know. xD
@AlexA. Damn, son, that's fancy.

Heh

@AlexA. Hmm. Is the next number always less than the one that generated it?
Hmm. No...

@El'endiaStarman I'm not sure what you mean

10:56 PM
2*3*5 = 30, but it would generate 111.
@AlexA. Is the sequence of generated numbers monotonically decreasing?

No

Wait, no, I misread.
30 should become 235, right?

Yes
235 = 5*47, so it becomes 547
That's prime so the process halts

And 547 is prime.
Wah, ninja'd.
