@Undo What time did you line up for the keynote? And how were the seats you got by lining up at that time?

3 hours later…
03:22
@SantaClaus The first year, 3A. Got awesome seats, about one row back from the very best seats you can possibly get.
The next year, got up at 2ish. Got seats ~5 rows back. Still awesome.
I waited in line with a guy from the DoD both times, he was awesome and was going since like 2001. I might be able to hook you up if he won the lottery again this year.
The department of defense? What?
Wuts DoD
I'll probably end up waiting with other students anyways.
@SantaClaus yes
@Undo Why did getting there an hour earlier get you 4 rows further back :?
@SantaClaus that makes sense too :)
You run slow? :P
03:27
@SantaClaus Luck. They split the line in a weird way and I didn't see it coming.
One line went up one escalator and the other went up a different one, and the few seconds was all it took :)
There's a bunch of employees telling you not to run. ProTip: It's not running if at least one of your feet is on the ground at all times.
@Undo Say you didn't get in line until 5 or 6, how far back would you be?
@SantaClaus You're prolly going to be several sections back. It's not stadium seating.
But you could go get coffee, etc.
Then there's big screens a few sections back to watch. But at that point you might as well watch the livestream
@Undo So is 4 the magic number?
@SantaClaus I personally wouldn't go past 3. But that's personal taste more than anything else, some folks don't want to make the sleep tradeoff.
And I don't blame them.
Last time my fingers got so cold I was able to occupy myself for like an hour trying to open some airline peanuts.
@Undo Did you bring a chair of sorts?
03:33
@SantaClaus We bought one there, got it from the store across the street.
Like $13. It wasn't the best, but it was cheap and it worked for a few hours
Also, don't leave your chair at the door. You will be sitting inside the building for a while, bring your chair.
@Undo Oh, nice
There is food inside the building, get your spot in line first, then go get the food when everyone sits down. The food will not run out.
So people are running with backpacks/bags w/ their computers right?
@SantaClaus Theoretically, they're walking. In real life, they're running like something with big teeth is chasing them.
Don't bring your MacBook, no reason to.
@Undo What? Don't you need to download the betas?
03:36
Bring your iPad/iPhone or whatever you have, you'll have plenty of time to go get your machine from the hotel before the next session
@SantaClaus Just don't pack it to the keynote.
Oh
What do you pack to the keynote?
Unless you've got one of those shiny new light ones, then it probably won't slow you down too much
@SantaClaus I bring my iPad and however many sacks of airline peanuts I can collect.
@Undo LOL I've got one thats old enough to have an firewire port - heavy as a brick
@SantaClaus My 2012 has a FW port.
Having one with a dedicated ethernet port is a very good thing at WWDC.
I have one with an ethernet port, yes.
I think mine is 2007
03:38
oh, pre-unibody. Gotcha.
Yeah, leave it at the hotel. You don't need it for the keynote.
Jk "Late 2008" apperantly
@Undo What did you carry this stuff around in?
@SantaClaus A backpack.
Just a standard-issue Swiss Army one. Three sections, nothing fancy
@Undo Okay so even for the keynote you had a backpack
@Undo yas
@SantaClaus yeah, it helps not having to carry my iPad.
@Undo ic
03:41
Also, pack every charging thing you could ever need. And make sure you can charge all your stuff with whatever you have.
I almost forgot my MacBook charger once. That would have been bad
@Undo I plan on buying one of these things for my phone: amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Portable-Power-Bank-000/dp/B00LRK8JDC/…
@SantaClaus Unless you need it for the flights, I wouldn't.
There are power strips everywhere.
@Undo Maybe its just the anti-cell-tower field around my school, but my phone dies within 4 hours if it doesn't see a power outlet
They have them strapped to the back of literally every other chair in all the rooms except Presidio.
@SantaClaus ah, then it might be a good idea just in general
Even outside the building at 4am :P?
@Undo yas
03:44
@SantaClaus Well no
Oh, also, don't even think about using the WiFi or cell networks while you're waiting in line in the building. 5500 developers in one place crushes every network ever.
Although AT&T is getting better, IIRC
Outside of the line, the WiFi is awesome.
@Undo I haz verizion
Some people get better results by turning of LTE and going back to 3G. It's painful.
@Undo This is a relief - my macbook battery lasts maybe 20 minutes at best.
@SantaClaus If it's pre-unibody you should be able to buy a new one
If you were so inclined
@Undo This is its third replacment.
03:47
Oh
I guess maybe I can blame it on google chrome.
yeah, Chrome is terrible.
Kinda like drugs. Really bad for everything, but it's nice.
@Undo Alright, well thanks for continuing to share your experience. I'm gonna go...
@SantaClaus It's fun, anytime :)
You'll have a great time. We've got to meetup sometime.
