@Undo What hotels can you recommend from past years you've gone?

3 hours later…
03:33
@SantaClaus Depends on your budget.
@Undo Indeed it does...where did you end up staying last year?
We stayed at thepickwickhotel.com in 2014. It's insanely close to the center (like you could run there in <1min if you were determined).
It's still SF. Hotels are not what you're used to in not-big-cities. Do not expect them to be.
The discounted hotel reservations thing has like nothing left
@Undo I've been to SF before (not for wwdc though)
Rooms are small and there is usually not free continental breakfasts. And it's not cheap.
Let me look up what we payed for for Pickwick last year.
$1,337.93 for the week, Sunday night to Friday night
Or something like $270/night.
Thats really not that bad.
03:38
Longer walk (I didn't mind it though, and you're likely in better shape than I am)
$1,171.20, same nights.
Rooms are significantly smaller at Union Square, but either way they're smallish.
Do not plan to use your hotel room for anything other than... sleeping. And maybe brushing your teeth.
@SantaClaus well, I'm used to walking in to a hotel around here and paying $95/night for a giant room with free breakfast.
@Undo True
And if you have absolutely no budget limitations, go stay at ihg.com/intercontinental/hotels/gb/en/san-francisco/sfohb/… and have an even smaller walk.
@Undo I dunno about being in better shape or not :P
(actually don't, use that money to buy yourself a Mac Pro)
The hotel union square was on the apple discount list :P
03:42
@SantaClaus That list goes fast.
ProTip: Call the number. The helpful people are helpful
There should be a phone number for the reservation people Apple hired.
@Undo Indeed. Very fast. We emailed them earlier.
@SantaClaus it doesn't help that the 5000 conference people have had it for weeks before you scholarship kids
@SantaClaus Can you touch your toes?
@Undo stands up and checks
@Undo Not quite. I'm going to blame that on my long legs though :P
If it's "not quite", you're 10x better than me. You'll do fine :P
Planning to check baggage?
@Undo I wasn't doubting my ability to walk around a city :P
@Undo Like on a plane...yes...
03:46
We've always flown into SFO (and everywhere else) with only carryons. Kinda nice being able to walk out of the airport and leave without the baggage-claim dance.
also cheaper.
Although it's an art
another thing: Design lab fills up fast. Wake up early Wed morning and get in line before the building opens. It will look like you have no shot at a slot, you do.
Wednesday because the early go-get-it-done people do it on Tuesday, and the eeek-I-almost-forgot-about-design-labs people do it on Thursday
and DON'T LOSE YOUR BADGE.
your jacket will probably have a cool little inside pocket, keep it there when you're not in the building.
If your badge starts to fall apart (like tries to fall off the lanyard thing), take it to the friendly registration people who will print you a new one. If it falls off and you lose it, they will not print you a new one.
If you're ambitious, make something to cover up the shiny Apple logo when you get your badge. For whatever reason it wore off both of my badges during the week, which is very sad.
All sounds like good advice :)
There is a balcony on the third floor of the building. Do not even think about using it as a place to get 'fresh air'. The air in the building is much cleaner than the air in the unofficial smokers-lounge.
@Undo I take it you learned from experience...
It's a cool view, if you can hold your breath for however long it takes you to take in the scenery.
@Undo Eeek
I'm gonna head out for now...cya
04:02
Me too, night.
