A: When is a question "primarily" opion-based rather than just partially?

Robert Harvey When is optimization premature? A bit broad, but not primarily opinion-based; it focuses on a programming topic. How do I convince my boss/coworkers when optimization is not premature? Always primarily opinion-based; it focuses on a social problem, not a programming one. How common...

@RobertHarvey, the guy on programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/316136/… is being a douche

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

@AaronHall Python was my first modern lanaguage. Coming from QBasic to Python it felt like a very natural transition.

Q: How to write correct loops?

CodeYogiMost of time while writing loops I usually write wrong boundary conditions(eg: wrong outcome) or my assumptions about loop terminations are wrong(eg: infinitely running loop). Although I got my assumptions correct after some trial and error but I got too frustrated because of the lack of correct ...

OMFG at the bikeshedding.

Have all the close voters become so demoralized that they've given up?

I haven't given up, but there are plenty of days where I just don't visit the site (which is why I haven't burned out), plus it has always and still does feel like almost no one else is close voting
Wondering how many have heard of the term "cargo cult programming"?
it's a pretty common term yeah, I'd expect all the regulars here are very familiar with it and probably can point to a rant they made within the last week using that term

Q: The system supports questions with multiple answers poorly (and is becoming worse at it)

gnatTL;DR Can the system do something to help us more efficiently handle quality of the content in questions with multiple answers? Recently I've seen notes from Stack Exchange staff about how it would be nice if site would allow for broader, softer kind questions. This was said by Robert Cartaino...

^^^ fighting the system may become tiring when it hits you almost daily. I have a feeling that Joel wants smaller SE sites to compete with Reddit, with its "wildly popular" (and useless) threads
@Ixrec Thanks, the rant within the last week comment made me smile :)

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because licensing advice is off-topic on Stack Overflow. You may be able to get help on Programmers Stack Exchange, but read their faq carefully before proceeding.Kyll 19 secs ago
on the off chance anyone else wants to weigh in...
Can anyone please point me to a design-related question on here which actually fits on this SE? At the moment I have no idea what actually fits on this SE despite all the stuff in Meta/FAQs. In other words, an actual example of a good question on software design rather than just guidelines — errantlinguist 15 mins ago

What you are asking is still way to broad, so I agree with the sentiment earlier. You might find programmers.stackexchange.com a bit more suited to this sort of question. Post on StackOverflow when you actually have some code and a problem to get past. That's what it's for, — Neil Lunn 35 secs ago
false negative :(

Getting Jenkins to connect to remote machines to execute a script is...not as easy as I thought. I think I need to generate the keys and get the machines set up for key-based authentication rather than password authentication.
@AaronHall I never even noticed this yesterday hah, sorry :) ask question, don't pay attention to answers. am I doin SE right?
@RobertHarvey (removed)
I've stopped caring a fair bit, yes
=(
(not that I can blame you)
My job is also considerably more interesting now, so I have many other things I'd rather do than downvote/comment and vote to close the onslaught of crap that rolls in every day here
I've posted way less on Workplace since starting, too
you can pretty much tell when I started my new job if you look there closely... :o
I actually became active here after getting my current job, which has remained consistently interesting to me. Not sure if that means anything.
A lot (most?) of my SE comes during work hours. errr, I mean I do it all outside of work

looking for 10Kers help in resolving this great space exploration debate. Whole crew of an International Space Station is eagerly waiting for how it will end
I don't see anything to do there anymore.
@ThomasOwens landed to the Moon!
I don't always cast delete votes outside of the delete queue. But when I do, a mod follows.

Why can't you just hide the posts you don't want to see?
what is the name of condition when people keep moving in stress, anyone knows ?
@enderland Sure, that's when people are googling how to do programming. I presume the majority of my upvotes come from people at work.
If you're a multinational firm, isn't use of the term "Global" in the name of a functional unit of the organization redundant?
@AaronHall lol my last job was like this, all our teams had global in them, and then all the group email addresses started with it... sigh
@enderland I found another post

Q: How to handle co-worker's leg shaking?

HoonsA recently hired co-worker has the habit of almost constantly shaking their legs. My desk is located rather close to said co-worker, and the almost constant vibration is wearing on me. I have tried to separate my desk to minimize the effect, but to no avail. I am considering politely pointing ou...

@Change oh, hm. there are so many related questions nowadays
I used to have them all in my brain, I'm kind of glad Idon't now :)
Please provide context around what you are doing. Because nesting several loops like that points to a problem in your design approach. — idjaw 1 min ago
that question is really amusing
O(n)? screw that. let's do O(n!) or somethign crazy
it's possible he actually is doing a math thing where that many loops is simply mandatory
but the implicit premise that any piece of code that feels slightly repetitive must have a simpler form is...silly, to say the least
look at the iterators though, it's not actually going to loop much, I don't think
no, I refuse to look at that question for longer than it takes to comment on it
mostly because I'm at work and I'd never get anything done
14:57
That's fair.

Is it just me, or does everyone like look at their recent average rep per day and things like that?
I don't
What you measure will be controlled. :)
Decouple Python - favorite techniques - go.
@AaronHall flagged for voting fraud
I look at which questions I gain rep on, but that's the only thing I check regularly
I find annoying - code written like Rube-Goldberg machine.

@enderland what did you decide on?
@AaronHall I'm going to just use the basehttpserver and basehttprequesthandler stuff
it'll work fine for wha tI need
@AaronHall you've got to look at mine :)
18:04
You're sandbagging, gnat.
Try not to be so confrontational... :P
@AaronHall that would be weak reason for trying because it will be reverted in few hours
What did you do that caused this user to go off?
I'm trying to come up with a good Python kata.

@AaronHall probably downvote with comment. Though one never knows - voting is anonymous.

@Ixrec there is a delete queue?
@Snowman not formally, that's just what I call "the part of the 10k tools page that shows recent delete votes"
user114359
I thought shog mentioned at some point he wanted to add a delete review queue
