I wonder if you could make a decorated chain like that... Would have to be a single speed though... decorate the outer side of the chain with little metal daisies or similar.
Interesting - the review menu shows a red blot beside "low quality posts" but when I go in there, none are waiting. Does that mean a posting of mine is in there ?

@Criggie No, it means the notification system is crap. It could be a post that you yourself flagged, or it could be that the queue had already been emptied. I think there are posts in SE meta explaining why the current site architecture makes it too expensive to get these notifications right.

Hmm. Had my first "did a wheelie and fell over backwards because I couldn't unclip fast enough" today :(

Thus is so sad.

9:50 PM
cost of single fare ticket to work: EUR 2.8
average cost of one ride within last year: EUR 25
cost of monthly ticket: EUR 80
50% cycle commuting, 50% public transport: 20*2.8 = EUR 56
actual monthly saving by cycling: EUR 24
I do commute by bike in a rather expensive manner.

@gschenk €25 for only one ride?!

spent about 2.6k on bike stuff
went 110 times this year.
did perhaps 30 rides before strava, might bring costs per ride down closer to EUR 20.
The seasons almost over, in a fortnight we will be back to standard time.
sunset before 17h.

2600 euros... thought that your bicycle was a bit cheaper, something like 1800 euros, say 2000 at most

1150

And the rest? Fenders, different saddle? New chain? Lube?

10:07 PM
the small stuff accumulates
a few tools,
tyres are expensive
clothing

Speaking of clothing, do you guys wear those special pants every time you ride?

shoes were the most expensive besides the bike
for commutes yes.
for errands in the city no.

And that thing in the middle (don't know the word), does it help with the comfort?

when I wear cycling shoes with cleats I wear the bib shorts wich chamois
i think you mean the chamois.
yes it helps. provides a good interfaces with the saddle in the first place.
i like my more expensive bibs with much thinner and denser padding.

Yeah, I think that's the word I was looking for.

10:11 PM
but mostly i wear it because the cycling stuff is good for managing sweat.
cycling also quickly wears down my regular undies. That'd be more expensive than a pair of cycling bibs.
I'm rather happy with the 900 by decathlon for EUR 35 on sale.

Never had that problems. The pants on the other hand... I've managed to break 2.

the 500 though are horrible. way too wide legs.
gtg, night Cristian.

good night

@CristianCiupitu Same - on the commute yes, but not for a ride under 20 km. Also, not on the bent at all.
Ive got some waterproof overtousers that have worn off the rubber liner in the crotch, where it flexes.
But generally its the front of the legs that get wettest, not the underside.

11:48 PM
What bent?

err - my big blue one ?
got 2000 km on it now.

Got it.

Its got a carrier rack and mudguards now

It's probably the most comfortable bike.

Its certainly slightly less work for slightly more speed.

11:53 PM
while still being speedy

I've measured it at about 30 bpm lower for 3 km/h faster.
I don't even need to drink on the commute, compared to the road bike where I might have up to half a bottle.

How long is your commute that you have to drink water on it?

No, that's not my garage.... that's the shared bikeshed at work. spacve for 70 bikes, workbench, shower with towel service, etc.
33 km this morning.
can be 25 if I take the most direct+scary roads

I know it's not your garage, but you do have some "traditional" bikes.
33 km is a lot indeed. Just one-way, right?

yep
26 km on the direct line.
strava.com/activities/1905764147 27 km on the way home.

11:59 PM
And so many calories, too.
You can afford eating a lot of candy, hamburgers and so on :-)
