I'm a 10k on MSE.

wow, 53 answers

user55340
@Ixrec I've got one in there too.

I was about to say you aren't there but no, there's multiple pages of answers

user55340
Part of the thing was that SE tried to use the score as a "people liked it - we don't know what's going on here"

11:16 PM
which to me is totally unheard of outside of PPCG HNQs
yeah, a lot of answers and comments mentioned that
that was the biggest thing that annoyed me too so I upvoted the posts that pointed it out

> Your response to the proposal was positive – 85% of votes on the proposal were upvotes.

user55340
Which then lead to a "I up voted it because it was important and I couldn't down vote it" wave

yes I was there when they said that silly thing
indeed, that's still the top voted answer

user55340
@Ixrec On metas, I sort by active... hmm yea.

kinda sucks that the one comment your answer got was a guy who clearly didn't pay attention when reading your answer

user55340
@Ixrec too many comments in a question and its answers have the negative impact of reducing visibility of posts, reducing their score, and making people just skip over them... I think Jon said something about that at one time and how discussion posts might become excessively noisy and less useful.

Q: Hide trivial comments

Jon Ericson Update: this particular implementation has been abandoned for now, please help us measure the cost of displaying comments instead. If you look around the internet, you'll find that: 99.9 percent of comments are either spam, off-message or simply wasted electrons.—ithacaindy (Obviously pa...

that question is a bit of an outlier though
there's so much wrong with it that people felt the need to write 53 separate answers
that's just not normal

user55340
@Ixrec I was kind of hinting at here where lots of answers on interesting questions and comments make for noise...

heck, I wanted to write my own answer before I saw that answer count
oh
ok we're nowhere near this bad

Q: How can we measure the cost of displaying comments?

Jon EricsonAs you can see from Jay's answer we have some internal disagreements about how much signal we lose from displaying comments and, more critically, how much hiding that signal would cost. I waved my hands by suggesting that we will "increase our information density" if we hide more comments, but t...

wow

user55340
@Ixrec Yea.

user55340
This goes to that the timeline is the most useful way to read incredibly noisy questions: meta.stackexchange.com/posts/272956/timeline

user55340
(to get the timeline: s/question/posts/ && s/whatever-is-at-the-end-slug/timeline/)

Welcome to Meta.SE! Please make sure to put a clear statement of the problem in your question. — shelvacu 17 hours ago
