Are you referring to the many linkifications I made to wikipedia articles (and some linkifications elsewhere)? This was because there's potentially a lot of information the OP may want, in order to understand that text from the terminal, but the OP was unlikely to want a huge long answer explaining every concept (nor would that probably be ideal from the perspective of writing useful, reusable answers).
@EliahKagan yeah!
@Lucio Yeah, I really don't know what you mean by that. The only thing I copied from Wikipedia to make that answer were some URLs to linkify text for further information.
@EliahKagan I just mean that your answer is useful. So well wroted that you can c/p it in Wikipedia without problems.
I think he means you write answers as detailed as Wikipedia articles
@Lucio Oh, that it could be copied and pasted to Wikipedia. Thx!
I doubt there's a need for a Wikipedia article with quite that content, though. :)
00:03
@JorgeCastro exactly
Sorry, I didn't understand. Thx!
And the clock has struck midnight in England! Time to review some close votes...
@EliahKagan no problem, my English is not very good. I speak Spanish..
00:14
@jrg did you get my last ping?
@maggotbrain np :)
jrg
jrg
@JorgeCastro so yes, i am indeed involved with Kandan.
@Oli But mine doesn't! :P
I mean for this..
jrg
jrg
@Seth yes, i did.
@Lucio C#? no. .NET? Yes.
@jrg Mono is just a copy of .NET.
jrg
jrg
Uh, no.
00:16
@jrg noted
@jrg Did you work it out with him?
jrg
jrg
C# is different from .NET.
@jrg Well not exactly
jrg
jrg
@Seth no.
@jrg Yes. C# is a language, .NET is a framework.
But Mono is a Linux copy/port of .NET.
jrg
jrg
00:17
the answers on meta pretty much covered it.
@jrg He still couldn't figure it out...
jrg
jrg
i can't help.
@Seth Mono also provides development tools, like C# compilers and an IL assembler. (And it is not just for Linux, nor even just for *nix.)
@EliahKagan True. Do you use it?
I was talking about the Mono framework
@jrg He just wants to know what happened. He isn't asking for it back..
@Seth Don't you know? Eliah give me a full documented comments about it here. ★
00:24
@Seth Not for a couple years. But before then, yes. Some years ago (as a hobby, like) I would build C# programs with both Visual C# Express on Windows and Mono on Ubuntu. (My own relatively small programs. Not large pre-existing programs. It would be cool if I did that with something like Banshee. Cooler if I did it every day, to stay on the bleeding edge. But no.)
@EliahKagan Ah, I see.
jrg
jrg
@Seth see above.
i can't see that.
You can't see his reputation history?
jrg
jrg
nope.

detailed histories like that is destructive to relationships and the whole idea of a history that only you can view.

Is a mod here?
I'm not sure if you can do this or not, but can you tell if there are deleted comments here:

Q: What is this kernel 2.6.31-10-rt?

Karthi primeDoes this kernel version 2.6.31-10-rt, represents 'CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT patch applied mainline kernel'? Thanks

It appears the OP replied to someone in a comment, but I'm not sure.
the question is also closed, so blah
You used the wrong close reason.
And you don't just blah a person with a problem..
I'll add a comment.
It sounds to me like he got it solved.
jrg
jrg

or rather, 10 or less.
Yes.
jrg
jrg
ok
01:48
@jrg Can you check if there are any deleted comments on that post up there --^ ?
jrg
jrg
don't appear to be any
okie. Weird.
02:04
People are close voting weird things...
02:26
Can't believe I missed that spam.
Didn't even notice it.
02:37
@TheLordofTime That guy just added an answer of his own... Should we roll back the edit?
@Seth link?
yeah i see it
done
/me didn't see their answer :P
Good.
That's what I thought when I saw it.
That one almost tripped me up.
@Seth
02:45
@maggotbrain not a "clean up" suggestion; more of a create one: docs.xfce.org/apps/screenshooter/start
Yeah well..

STOP DOWNVOTING PEOPLE!
@vasa1 definitely on my list. Thanks.
ITS GONNA DISAPPEAR!
preaches to the choir..
Can someone help me test a bug?
02:49
@Seth you're not talkin to me are you?
I DO NOT WASTE MY PRECIOUS REP ON DOWNVOTES!
@vasa1 I had a good chat with the one of devs, yesterday, about work to be done and what I've found missing. Hopefully, I can get it in better shape before the 4.12 release
@TheLordofTime No I'm not, though you don't lose rep downvoting a question.
I thought you were part of the choir...
@Seth i'm above the choir.
anyways.
what bug
that one.
/me sees no bug here.
02:52
That's what happened when I tried to flag a deleted comment.
@maggotbrain, that's nice. All the best. I'm on Lubuntu where the documentation is even less (or I've been more than sloppy in my Googling.) It's surprising how often I get what I want from the Arch wiki!
@vasa1 IKR
@Seth if you can convince a mod to allow you toi create a test question, and then have me try and flag it, and you delete before i submit... :P
Arch has such an awesome wiki.
link to the question too :P
02:53
@TheLordofTime No it's a comment
Here, add a comment to this: meta.askubuntu.com/questions/6261/…
@Seth i know. we need a test question to comment on.

okay. Delete it now please :)
Ok. Here goes.
Earlier today I managed to get Git compiled for ARMv6. Now I've run it on my phone... and it works!
02:55
@vasa1 I know what you mean. I think the xfce site/team is so small, that I could make a noticeable impact(hopefully).
There we go.
create a meta about this
:P
Right now, you need ~5(!) accounts/passwords to access various parts of their site.
I am working on it @TheLordofTime ;-)
@GeorgeEdison ★
wiki/docs/bugzilla/forums/goodies oh and the translations site too. That's 6
02:57
Ooops. I just accidentally purged the build tree.
They are talking of migrating to OpenID "someday".
@GeorgeEdison lolfail?
@TheLordofTime Could have been worse. I just need to type make to generate it again.
...but it takes a few minutes. More of a nuisance than anything.
@GeorgeEdison better to just be a nuisance than to have to redo the entire thing from scratch. (i.e. deletion of all things).

Q: When I try to flag a deleted comment I get a picture of the "page not found" page

SethI was trying to flag a comment, but it appears a mod (or a couple of users) were too fast for me and it was already deleted. When I clicked "flag", instead on the nice red popup saying "comment already removed", I got a huge picture of the "page not found" page. I have reproduced this on ...

03:00
@TheLordofTime It's this. <--- my newest creation
It downloads, extracts, configures, builds, and installs OpenSSL, cURL, libiconv, and Git.
oh that reminds me. @George still working with stackapplet?
Not really. The latest stable version (1.5.1) still works fine AFAIK.
my point was is it still available for use :P
@GeorgeEdison I don't think it does.
Never did for me no matter what I did.
It doesn't work???
03:08
Not for me..
API changes I think.
But the API isn't supposed to change.
If you are getting any errors, by all means, please file a bug.
@TheLordofTime: Same for you - I'd love to fix anything that's broken.
@GeorgeEdison API version 1 is deprecated iirc.
Ohhhhhhhh.... that's right.
I got mixed up for a moment there, sorry.

Q: Deprecating API V1.x

Kevin MontroseAPI V2.0 has been out and pretty stable for about 3 months now, and we've become pretty confident in it. Additionally, API V2.0 consumption has now grown past the V1.x family. Now seems like a good time to start really deprecating V1.x. Don't panic, we're not shutting V1.x down We're committe...

Yeah, you're right - StackApplet 1.5.1 still uses v1.1
03:11
@GeorgeEdison Ahh. No worries :)
But v1.1 is still around. So it should still work for the time being.
But I really should make a quick patch to switch it to v2.1.
I'll add it to my TODO list.
@GeorgeEdison Version 1.x includes v1.1 doesn't it?
v1.6alpha1 uses v2.0 IIRC.
But I haven't worked on that one in a long time.
@GeorgeEdison Haven't used the Alpha AFAIK.
It doesn't work well with AppIndicators.
03:14
@maggotbrain, I did a limited write-up on Xfce4-screenshooter here and that's when I noticed the blank page. I'm quite content with scrot but the only drawback of scrot (for me) is that I don't see a way to capture the cursor.
Needs more pandas... — animuson 4 mins ago
O_o
@GeorgeEdison Is there anything broken that still really needs fixing? don't think so :P
@GeorgeEdison i still use stackapplet, actually i absolutely LOVE it. do you accept donations for your work?
... oh my freaking god ...
i just drank a bottle of BAWLS... and i have waaaaaaaay too much energy now o.o
@FEichinger The thing I like most about having 1k on MSO is being able to split the votes... It's pretty interesting.
I'm not going to lie - this is the ugliest bunch of Python code I have ever written.
@vasa1 favorited cool. I will definitely be looking at your answer when I get to creating that page. So far, I think I need ~10 'missing' screenshots so I will be getting familiar with screenshooter in the coming weeks.
03:24
What was I thinking? Tabs instead of spaces? Lowercase class names? The inhumanity!
@TheLordofTime: Congratulations - you have inspired me to update StackApplet - if only because the code is just so embarrassing.
6
and an upvote for you as well @vasa1 almost forgot that. Have a badge. ;-)
@GeorgeEdison xD
@GeorgeEdison i should give you money for that, though. just because you made me lol (even though you didn't mean it)
@maggotbrain, merci! Where in Seattle are you? Many moons ago, I stayed at a place near the foot of Queen Anne's. If I strained enough I could see the bay from my studio window!
you know, i think the insane amount of energy i have right now is prompting that...
Makes sense.
03:30
@vasa1 Right now, I'm living up north in the sticks. But, I've lived mostly in downtown(2 blocks from the Pike Place Market + Capitol Hill.
@maggotbrain The sticks?
I'm not sure I've ever heard that term before.
Really???? you joking?
the boonies. the burbs.
No..
Aren't you somewhere on the Eastside?
Yes. Somewhere. Over. There.
03:33
@maggotbrain, tossing the fish was quite awesome. Anyway, lovely place. Enjoy!
I bet.
Where are you @vasa1?
brb
@Seth Over there? Yea, I worked for the Beast a couple times.
@maggotbrain sigh.
03:43
idk.
You aren't explaining very well ;)
I mean spam.
I see a lot of those. I'm not sure whether I want to shoot them or try to take pictures..
Not explaining what very well? Don't you have a family member who works for them?
@maggotbrain Who is them?
Microsoft?
03:47
ah.. That them. Got it.
Nah, I know someone who used to work for that them.
This is just awful. Forget it. I'm rewriting StackApplet from scratch in Python.
STOP DOWNVOTING THE SPAM
ah. OK.
@maggotbrain Oh, wasn't talking to you sorry ;)
More of a random rant.
OK folks. Taps for the spam please.
There must be a mod hiding around here...
@Seth does someone with an EMP grenade count?

because that's a substantial win! not just a win, but a BIG win.
Now I'm getting requests for more freehand circles... Oh the extravagance :O
03:56
@Seth i want to reproduce that bug too. test comment time?
@TheLordofTime Sure. Pick a spot.
Preferably your post.
does it have to be a question comment :P
we've produced this on question comments, have we produced this on answer comments as well?
@TheLordofTime Sure, try an answer.
you can take screenies, I can't, but i will try and test and confirm it happens anyways
we'll use this as a test askubuntu.com/questions/153692/…

12 hours away (just north of Bombay). Re the beast, Mozilla described itself as the Beast and MS as Mammon at least if you believe Wikipedia. "Mammon slept. And the beast reborn spread over the earth and its numbers grew legion. And they proclaimed the times and sacrificed crops unto the fire, with the cunning of foxes. And they built a new world in their own image as promised by the sacred words, and spoke of the beast with their children. Mammon awoke, and lo! it was

@Rinzwind I'm not saying the font is intrinsically bad, but if you can't tell characters apart, changing font or font size can help with that.

this one is weird: askubuntu.com/questions/271175/… the option should work !?
@Takkat throw something on meta.stackoverflow - maybe all mods should have the same "universal" rights to deal with spam flags as they can deal with chat stuff
@Takkat I missed that :=)
Is spam the same across all sites? There are different views on severity.
@Takkat spam is spam as far as I can see.

some spam comes in cans and some spam gets canned
advice... should I remove the whole "help" part? seems useless to the problem and it messes up layout

so anybody know how to get chrome or firefox extensions to work with another browser like midori(my currect favorite) or even epiphany?
I didn't wanna post this as a question because it is not ubuntu related and it is a kind of yes or no question
Didn't want to see it turn into a impossible/possible debate
seems like a reasonable question here - especially if you include "for example the ubuntu global menu extension" as an example
@JoshuaRobison That's a very interesting question.
but won't I just get a whole bunch of people saying "no you can't"? and that wouldn't be very productive. Isn't it more of a discussion subject than a real question? Just looking to see if anyone had any experience with this idea
either downloading an addon and converting it to midori
or finding a way to get firefox or chrome extensions to work with midori
Dont see this as a "debate" question - a "no it is not possible" is still a valid answer.
there are extensions I love to use with firefox , such as paraparakun for showing me the reading of kanji on japanese pages , and springpad and getpocket extensions
@fossfreedom, but too often things that were called impossible were actually possible for me with a little elbow greese
After all I'm running the new Geary on my powerpc :D on debian wheezy woot!
just compiled it
gethub is awesome!!

There was a discussion in the last couple of days regarding options and choices (approx. GNOME/Unity versus KDE). Here's what Alex Limi, Product Design Strategy at Mozilla, has to say: Checkboxes that kill your product
Design by committee often looks like a row of checkboxes.
What I do want to put the focus on, however, is that you have to perform an audit of your product every so often and **see how the people using your product have changed**, and what kind of functionality that made sense at the time may not make much sense anymore.
@vasa1, sounds like thed problem we have with managing dependencies

Fan death is a widely held belief in South Korea that an electric fan left running overnight in a closed room can cause the death of those sleeping inside. All fans sold in South Korea come with an automatic timer that turns the fan off after a certain number of minutes. Origins of belief The genesis of this misconception is unclear, but fears about electric fans date almost to their introduction in Korea, with stories dating to the 1920s and 1930s warning of the risks of nausea, asphyxiation, and facial paralysis from this "new technology"."[http://veritasest.egloos.com/2029688 Strang...
