@Jorge - askubuntu.com/questions/266737/… I don't know if you know...or know someone that does. My answer is a stop-gap at best.
@GeorgeEdison It looks centered. Is there a center text attribute you need to set to left justify?
No, no - I don't need it centered. I need the icon next to the text.
exactly. it probably inherited some centered attribute and you have to set it to left justified directly on the text blob somehow
Well, actually, I would like both the text and the icon centered.
00:13
hence saying directly on the text blob
also i commented on your ssl self answer
I just noticed that.
It's just a force linear order and logic being right or inverted depending on how you read it.
E.g. if you read it through pops or if you read it left to right.
I still don't see why the linker can't just make a list of all exported symbols in all of the libraries passed to it on the command line and match them - without any need for an order to be specified.
Just. Plain. Annoying.
that's fair i guess, but non-linear logic is subject to all kinds of heinous problems that break stuff.
if it weren't, opencl wouldn't need logic gates/barriers/synchronization. alternately, if you say if symbol not found recurse again. then if symbol not found check number of unresolved symbols, i guess that could work. it would slow down compilation and make programmers lazy though.
correction, you have to tag number of unresolved symbols first. then rerun. then check for match
00:43
Yes?
@RolandiXor - awwz I don't get to see edit history on deleted
Whoops I went afk
@GeorgeEdison it would get bad because simple solutions like what i proposed could lead to MORE unresolved symbols when you start swapping things around. intelligent symbol solving would require an entirely new thing, like depsolving for libraries/symbols
I wanted to ask George something but second guessed myself

Silence is the lack of audible sound or presence of sounds of very low intensity. By analogy, the word silence can also refer to any absence of communication, including in media other than speech. Silence is also used as total communication, in reference to non verbal communication and spiritual connection. Silence also refers to no sounds uttered by anybody in a room or area. Silence is an important factor in many cultural spectacles, as in rituals. In discourse analysis, speakers use brief absences of speech to mark the boundaries of prosodic units. Silence in speech can be hesitation...

hello everyone.
quick question is there an isNull() function in Javascript?
nope. if you google first you come up with this:
5
Q: Javascript isnull

PhillipThis is a really great function written in jQuery to determine the value of a url field: $.urlParam = function(name){ var results = new RegExp('[\\?&]' + name + '=([^&#]*)').exec(window.location.href); return results[1] || 0; } // example.com?someparam=name&otherparam=8&...

@AbrahamVanHelpsing thanks I figured that much and was wondering why lecturer would ask us for a function that is not built in
it's an sql function. might be related to why they asked.

14:10
@jokerdino Thanks, It helped, but was a little old ;)
14:43
I was reading [this](http://devo.ps/blog/2013/03/06/troubleshooting-5minutes-on-a-yet-unknown-box.html) and he has a command like this: `ls /etc/cron* + cat`
What does the `+ cat` at the end of an ls do?
Cat is used to view contents of a file or directory
@MosheK Well cat prints the contents of a file.
cat is used to concatenate two files.
@jokerdino That's what the + is for?
i know what cat is, im wondering about the + cat appended to an ls command
14:46
let me see
@MosheK i see no difference
15:11
what about using a pipe like ls /etc/cron* | cat
it is kind of near the + sign...
guys do you think this correct?
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^chat\.html$ :7070/candy/candy/example/index.html [L]
Oli
Oli
@MosheK + cat on the end of an ls command is interpreted as the user wanting to ls a file/dir called + and then one called cat. Nothing magical happens.
If you run that command, as it is, you get two errors about + and cat not existing.
Oh Thank God @Oli is here
Oli
Oli
So either the shell they're using is magical and interprets it differently from bash (our default in Ubuntu) or they're just being silly.
@Oli
Can i use that rewrite rule under /opt/ installed?
Oli
Oli
15:21
They probably meant to pipe with |
@Oli yeah, it has to be an error, (or some older option since it does the cat part anyway) I got the same results with | but formatted differently
So? any idea? mod_rewrite is enabled, it works on the main website. But it doesn't work on this installation.
I installed one chat app under /opt/ mod_rewrite doesn't work without web directory?
Oli
Oli
@Achu apologies Achu, Apache really isn't my thing but it looks like you're trying to do an internal rewrite that shifts the user onto a different port.
You either need mod_proxy (to proxy the :7070 webserver) or you send the user an external redirect so their browser requests from the right server.
Oh, ok that's good. I was trying to just rewrite the url without changing the port
Oli
Oli
@Achu Apparently Apache can internal-proxy from mod_rewrite using the [P] flag but you need to provide the full host string, like so:
somepath(.*) otherhost/otherpath$1 [P]
Again, by no means an expert on anything Apache. I use nginx.
15:32
oh great, let me try that and get back to you with the result
noop same result. Thank you @Oli for your help. sorry to be nagging you with questions. I will try to explore the fix. Thanks :)

Q: Can a badge be revoked?

DoogfarSay you get a badge that requires you to get 10 votes. You get the badge but then someone down votes you so you no longer have the 10 votes. Does the badge get pulled?

Well, if the OP is merely using 12.10 would that suffice. Or should the issue be unique to 12.10? The other point is that other obvious improvements to the post are ignored.
release tags are usually only for hardware issues
using 12.10 is not enough.
16:52
otherwise they shouldnt be applied
@vasa1 yep - sounds like you have correctly rejected the edit suggestion.

Gosh ... I can't stand all the bitching and drama around Mir ...
I'm especially pissed off by the spin off projects that kinda expect Ubuntu to carry them and do all the heavy lifting for them. You don't like the way it's heading? GTFO ... simple as that.
@OctavianDamiean Good news - I started into Android programming last week.
I grabbed the SDK, the NDK, and started working on an app.
Mhmm, you should have started with an Ubuntu Phone app instead. :D
I'm not an Android developer anymore by the way.
No? I didn't know that.
Nope. I'm a web front-end developer.
Ah, okay.
Well, you can bet that once my schedule clears up, I will take a look at the Ubuntu Phone SDK.
21:06
I couldn't stand Java any longer.
:P
That was the one reason I avoided learning Android app development for so long.
You haven't worked with advanced ListView's yet I take it? :D
I've got a very basic ListView... it works well enough for a simple list at this point.
I've really gotten into it though - the UI for the app is written in Java of course, but the heavy lifting is done by a library written in C. So I also had to learn how the JNI works.
...and cross-compiling shared libraries for ARMv6 was... interesting.
21:11
It's ugly innit?
Yes sir.
But if you're careful, it works - and it works well.
I'm much more comfortable working in C.
It's ridiculous how many up-votes I get for this answer.

A: How exactly does the android:onClick XML attribute differ from setOnClickListener?

Octavian DamieanNo that is not possible via code. Android just implements the OnClickListener for you when you define the android:onClick="someMethod" attribute. Those two code snippets are totally the same but just implemented in two different ways. Code Implementation: Button btn = (Button) findViewById(R.i...

:D
Every time I get an up-vote I lol a bit. I was just stating the obvious. :P
Because Java uses garbage collection, it's difficult to convince the JVM to free my native object.
I have a Java class with a long member that stores a pointer to a native object allocated in C code.
...and logically that native object needs to be freed. But it isn't getting freed, even though I implemented finalize() in the class.
Frustrating. That's all I can say.
21:22
Yea, the GC is a bitch ... it does what it wants when it wants.
Don't even start on Eclipse... shudders
Yea, no ... I wouldn't even use it if you'd offer me money. ST3 all the way.
I have found Qt Creator to be one of the best IDEs out there.
It looks solid as far as I can tell but I don't like IDEs.
Advanced text editors are just about right for me.
What I really like about Qt is that it offers the best code-completion engine I've ever seen.
It's smart enough to work through multiple layers of templates, macros, it even offers partial support for capturing variables within lambdas.

Hi how can i uninstall or remove software from Ubuntu 12.04
@gowri You need to use the Software Center.
I want delete the mysql workbench
mysql workbench i not showing in software center
Oh, in that case, I can provide you with a quicker way.
Just open up a terminal and run this command:
sudo apt-get remove mysql-workbench
You will likely be prompted for your password, after which the package will be removed.
great , That works
Thank you so much

@FEichinger I LOVED PLANESCAPES TORMENT!!!
Planescape: Torment was awesome, for various reasons. One is definitely the team behind it.
And with both Fargo and Dengler throwing more money at it, this is exactly the team I want to produce games for the next years. Sooo ... the more they get, the better.
@GeorgeEdison on your getting it to work on IE comment over there -->
Don't they have a webkit plug-in for IE yet? You know, runs a browser inside of an IE window...
Not to mention official endorsement from Avellone, cross-platform availability, and the nostalgia of Torment with a new setting. Awesomeness in a nutshell.
A 2.5M $ nutshell, but a nutshell.
Yes. Cross-platform adds some awesome. Anything that depends on OpenGL instead of DirectX is winning in my book.
It's an iso game, so ... that's reasonable. And using the unity game engine to deploy cross-platform is ... well, reasonable.
People who make 2/2.5D games using DirectX deserve a kick in the privates.
23:24
Don't tell the Crysis team that...
That is a whole different topic of multiple, steel-bearing kicks in the privates.
jrg

youch
Indeed.
I don't know. They released an SDK that's free to use as long as you don't sell anything iirc. I can't argue with that. It would be more awesome if it were portable, but the "Here is an Elder Scrolls map loaded in our engine" demo was diabolical.
They are awesome in their results. It's just a bunch of design and development choices along the way that I can't agree with.
@FEichinger That's fair. They are making hard choices though. The new vehicle collision and deformation model they're working on. Other hidden awesomeness. Their methods are not without faults, but when you go to sleep at night, do you want your alarm clock to go off in the morning? That's right, it wasn't domestically manufactured and running open source firmware necessarily...but it NEEDS to wake you up.
