@GeorgeEdison Assuming you're using django.contrib.staticfiles, I've found django-pipeline to be good for mangling all your static files through compressors, etc
There are several different projects that all do roughly the same thing (although some are rotten, from before staticfiles was really a thing, so be wary of those) and YMMV.
00:25
anyone develop android apps on ubuntu?
00:45
@Oli Awesome! Thanks for the recommend.
I've been using django-compressor until now and it has the odd shortcoming.

Yeah I used to use that

I need to grab a title from a column in an SQL table and apply some formatting to it. Sounds like a job for... Perl!
^--- I hope I don't regret that.
01:34
@roland, no the passwod reset didnt work. I got no email.
@jokerdino Stand by. I'll perform a manual reset.
@jokerdino Done. Check your email.
01:50
Oh thanks.
@GeorgeEdison Thank you very much. Got the email.
Also, do we have a display name thingie? I really don't want my super long name plastered all over the articles :P
And well, we probably need a couple more features. Things like deleting outdated drafts would be really nice.

this guy keeps on editing posts by simply removing Ubuntu from the title but (most of the time) neglects to improve the contents of the posts.
@Peachy reject / mark it as not useful
I've aprroved some after improving it, but I'm getting tired of improving most of his edits. Although some are legit.
:/
it sucks
yeah
i'll get to the rest. no worries.
03:29
oh it's okay, I had stopped reviewing for awhile, just getting back to it now
i stopped doing stuff on the site too. just getting back myself
BTW, GNOME women is looking for more people. Interested?
03:41
@jokerdino sure, how do I join?
i lost the link. Let me search for gnome women project :P
thank you
well, apparently, it is not the same thing.
women internship
yeah.

well, i'm not a programmer
you could try in documentation

might have to learn malloc though.

so any arduino junkies that can point me to a good+cheap on/off two lead motor supplier (looking to operate something like a door-lock)
Great, Project Sputnik is $50 more than the Windows version of the Dell ultrabook. Do they think we use Linux because we're wealthy? Of course 50 isn't that much more, but in the end, Dell's were not meant to last.
some people use it on principle. if i had gobs of money i'ld still use it.
i would, in fact, in all probability contribute more
Buy Windows version for $50 less.
Clean install.
And there you go.
What, in the end, was the 'We want to make a laptop for developers. So, let's take something free, that they could do themselves, and market it for more.' And that's crazy. Even if the amount wasn't that drastic, I wouldn't pay a penny over Windows, and I'd try to find something without an OS that I could get for less.
2
04:11
fair point. i think i missed where the linux version costed more...that sounds like market manipulation.
I never want to have to pay for ubuntu, unless I'm donating, whereas trying to captivate and control a market that focuses on open source, and having the sharing of essentially everything, that's constantly expanding it's userbase is simply wrong. When you use ubuntu, you're using something free and open source, when you use it on Sputnik, you're using something you technically payed $50 dollars for, something that I feel is not benefiting Canonical, or any of the Ubuntu developers.
Alrighty, I can see I'm in need of sleep, sorry for the midnight rants, BBT (Maybe?)
it's fine heavy awesome feature

The Disqus comment thread migration is underway.
05:54
@Flabricorn: I'd guess its cause the windows install is subsidised by crapware ;p
06:34
Oh no - I entered the wrong IDs for the Disqus import. Cancel! Cancel Cancel!
Now my work is cut out for me :(
07:02
HP is officially a bag of crap.
07:14
@RolandiXor-TheIceMan: Did you get my email?
The blog is up and running now.
yeah just did
Having some problems with a laptop I'm setting up for my father
Some of the articles have minor issues with unicode characters getting replaced with '?'.
np
I am kinda stressed lol :S
They leave tomorrow afternoon for Trinidad, and I got a second hand system tonight!
I'm setting it up for him to use, but it shuts down once it's been logged in to a graphical desktop for a little bit.
:/
I hope it's just a bug
07:17
Are there any ACPI sensors?
I would have to install them
I'm installing Unity right now
then I'll update the kernel
it is running fine from the command line
Sounds more like a bug then... although... it could be a problem with the video card.
I hope not :S
My father would be disappointed
and I hate to feel like I failed
BTW, I can only create pages on 2buntu, is that normal?
From the admin page I mean
Yes.
The pages are the only thing I don't have a regular GUI for yet.
Therefore I am giving staff access to them in the admin.
Feel free to unleash your creativity there :)
Cool :)
If I were a Python guru, I'd get to hacking on the code :P
07:24
Well, there's nothing stopping you from looking at it at least.
Just don't look at blog/wordpress.py as a good example of Python code.
I threw that together and it's full of nasty hacks and bad programming practices.
(Well, maybe it's not that bad, but it makes me uneasy.)
Anyway, it's time to head to bed.
Night all.
Cya bro :D
I am burning the midnight oil

@Obsessive: Hey, ever find a better truecrypt alternative?
@GeorgeEdison: what is the bugtracker for 2buntu's new look? you didn't enable it on bitbucket.
15:15
goes to outlook.com, reads message about browser being outdated, rolls eyes
Look at this
Vista didn't even make it....
@iSeth lol....not really suprised...
And it just happens to be Dells running windows XP... thats not surprising either
I find it interesting that almost 8 percent of the people that have upgraded to Windows 8 are from China...
15:22
Microsoft has big market share there
Right... but with the availability of pirated crap... it really does surprise me.. But I guess Soluto doesn't factor in whether they are authenticated versions or not...
not sure they can
My Dad has been to China, he says you could buy software of the street for like 10 bucks. So you have a point.
Yeah it is crazy... never been there but I am aware of what goes on there...
yeah...
@GeorgeEdison Heya, we found a bug in your stacktack plugin

oh thanks.

Q: content flow between Ask Ubuntu, Ubuntuforums, Ubuntu Wikis

213441265152351Is there any mechanism, official or informal, to flow information generated from Ask Ubuntu into other Ubuntu help sites, like Ubuntuforums or Ubuntu Wikis? For example, a Q&A from Ask Ubuntu to be turned into a tutorial in another site.

it used "standards". it was super effective! Except against IE.
Effective and IE should never be used in the same sentence... but... we just did it twice... ban us!
@Joshua IE 10 actually is nice though...

@Joshua no chili :P
@Joshua Wrong. IE and Effective may only be used with a "not" in-between. ... Dammit.
Web devs used standards
But it failed
3 salad : 0 chili
IE used default browser
It's super effective
@iSeth IE 10 is about as good as everything before it...

@jrg Does it have an epub version? I like to use the Nintendo DS to read it and I put those on a microsd and use the R4. With two screens you get a book like ereader.
jrg

it covers the events of the late 1980's to the early 1990's - including the formation of the EFF.
@AmithKK @jrg Thank you!

Who said donuts can't be bacon flavored..."Nuts 4 Donuts in Princeton will not only stock the classic lines of donuts, Werdeniuk plans on having some wacky flavors such as maple, bacon, fruit loops, M & M, kit kat, and peanut butter and jelly."
@Joshua People still use jabber O_o
@iSeth I guess... I don't...
jrg
jrg
@iSeth jabber is a protocol.
google talk uses it.
@jrg oh is that it. OK
@jrg I think he meant specifically the jabber client...
17:56
@Joshua That is what I meant
jrg
jrg
now, jabber.org is a service that run a server that uses the jabber protocol.
@jrg Must have changed sense I used it.
We need a SE chat api...
jrg
jrg
well, sorry. jabber.org is a service, XMPP is the protocol.
@jrg should make it happen....

Well my wife has a Kindle Fire... but I don't really call that an andriod device...
18:02
@Joshua yeah
oh you mean 3rd party virtual keyboards...
@Joshua aitype.com
@Joshua exactly
Dude... I had to use a virtual keyboard on that other mainstream OS once to remove a virus because somehow a client gave me a computer where the virus had made the keyboard impossible to use...
@Joshua Windows 8 has an awesome virtual keyboard
@iSeth never used it... that is the Virtual Keyboard on that other mainstream OS...

The seller should get bad feedback for that
look how big that box is for those two items they shipped... and they even overnighted it to us...
thats just weird...
no iphone 5 though?
no.. we just have 4s's
They have awesome cameras though
19:29
CDW-G won't sell us Apple Products, we have to order them straight from Apple... or another provider...
The 4S camera is good enough... at least it is better then the iPad 2's camera
I will try to convince my boss to let me upgrade when our upgrade period ends in about 4 months...
My Cousins Iphone 4 had better low light photos than the rest of the family's cameras with the exception of one.
the iPad 2 camera... meh they might have just as well not even put one on it...
Yeah... its just a selling point
I mean who wants to carry an Ipad around to take pictures? Really?
@iSeth the front facing camera isn't bad with facetime/skype/hangout... but other then that...
Front facing does make sense
19:36
What I think they should have done... it taken the back camera that is higher quality then the front facing one, and put that on the front and just gotten rid of the back one...
We (the consumers) need to design our own tablet. Then tablets will make sense
@Joshua Exactly
Although I will say, I have been to a couple of weddings now where they were recording videos (hopefully not with an iPad 2) with their iPads...
and I always think to myself "that looks awkward...
yeah... especially on a tripod
never seen one on a tripod...
good.
19:38
just handheld
But I can imagine how that might even be more awkward...
OMG!
It actually looks kind of cool... with the big microphone anyways...
it would still be very cumbersome
its only 70 bucks...
wait just the mount is 70, it doesn't include any of the other stuff...
@iSeth that is a sweet looking mouse...
@Joshua buyer-beware
19:43
Oh?
I meant about the ipad mount
Oh yeah...
lol that mouse has "20 MMO tuned buttons" what would one need all those buttons for on their mouse?
you could launch every app on your machine with one button press...
yeah that is crazy
maybe...
pinches self Oh, yeah your right
