12:38 AM
@GeorgeEdison static is fixed
That's a bug that didn't get fixed on the app server you're housed for some reason
Also, Ondina is going to be going through another round of server upgrades summer of 2013, you have been warned ;)

1:02 AM
Fair enough :)
I really appreciate everything you've done.

1:15 AM
Me 3.

Almost ready...
Uh-oh... 413 Request Entity Too Large.
I'll have to upload things in chunks I guess :P
Notepad++ to the rescue!
Or... or... maybe I can do it on my machine and sync the databases.
Yeah, that sounds smarter.

Interesting. I see cinnamon in Ubuntu repo.

@jokerdino oh?
13.04?

Yeah.
$ rmadison cinnamon
  cinnamon |    1.6.2-1 | raring/universe | source, amd64, armhf, i386, powerpc

Nice.
I refuse to use Mint, but I could use Cinnamon.

1:20 AM
it is in debian/sid also.
So, it probably got imported from debian unstable.

i probably wont install it still but better than having to add a PPA.

Database import in progress...
Not.
Hmmm. Now I've got the old stuff archived - but I can't access it.

zomg, the new 2buntu is up?

Yes and no.

1:24 AM
Hm.

It's up... but I'm having problems with the import.
Specifically the images.

Oh. I see no posts on the home page and I cant login.

Yeah, you can log in.

@GeorgeEdison Hold off on the images for now then?

Just follow the password reset procedure.

1:25 AM
It looks so nice.
Oh, I need to reset. Got it.

@RolandiXor-TheIceMan The upload fails if the images don't load :)

@MarcoCeppi: In case you're still around... we can't read ~/.backup/2buntu.com.

In the future I would like us to use imgur or something
Much less load on Ondina that way :)

We'll be hosting them ourselves now.
...and we can switch to a CDN if need be.

1:26 AM
Oh okay.

ok, do I need to register a new account or something?

(Actually, we were hosting them before too I guess :P)
@jokerdino Oh wait.
I think the mail server configuration is whacked.

wishes he had kept going with web apps after college; was put off by so many things :/
2

One sec.

@GeorgeEdison those are control panel maintained backups
For when you make configuration changes

1:27 AM
Oooooh.
Is there any way to read them?

When you changed to "Python" all the PHP stuff was backed up in that tarbal and the domain's directory re-written

Right.

Sorry, that should be readable by you. Try now

Nope.

@GeorgeEdison I won't be able to log in now right?

1:28 AM
The permission is 754.

@GeorgeEdison one more time
it's +x now

Ah, there we go.
Thanks.

One day, someday, you'll be able to restore previous versions. For now it's all archived in there

Okay, thanks for explaining it.

@MarcoCeppi how do we ever repay you? (Until I my head around setting up a PayPal account in Barbados)?

1:30 AM
Bitcoins.

Ha!

<--- doesn't like Bitcoin.

Well, Ondina should be going live next summer, so publicity and kind reviews would be nice.

Oh coolio :)

Until then your patience and feedback are enough payment

1:31 AM
If I ever get a website, I might look into Ondina :P

I want to actually pay, but for now, I can't thanks to the hurdles I have to jump through just to get a PayPal account :/
I need a foreign account, which I'm told, is stress to establish...

Yeah, paypal is a headache on its own.
I heard nice things about cherry credits though. :>

What's that now (never even heard of it)...
Bleh... why can't we have it easy like the US and Canada?
I have people waiting on me to do things and I can't because I need to go through so many loops just to do something that I could do in a few minutes in the US :/

I wonder if I can pull this off by overriding 2buntu.com in my hosts file...
I'm downloading the archives right now.

Thanks. :)

1:39 AM
@GeorgeEdison so, we can't sign in right now, correct?

Almost.
Okay, try this:
Enter the email you used on the old blog.

It says not associated.

Oh wait.

It makes me think whether I used a different email.

You didn't.
I forgot - the users don't exist until I run an import.

1:42 AM
Same here.
Oh okay.

Sorry guys.

Ah alright.

Ah, the download finished.

Making a texture for a planet :)

1:49 AM
Success! I've got 2buntu.com resolving to 127.0.0.1.
Now I can run the import on my machine.

2:46 AM
I'll have to get at this later guys.
Sorry for the delay.

No problem.

3:10 AM
The new 2buntu is looking really smooth.
Fantastic... utterly brilliant job.

Indeed! @GeorgeEdison == genius.

Even though the content hasn't been moved over, just what they have is fantastic!
@GeorgeEdison == Mad Scientist Genius

LOL, I can also write about suboptimal examples and make Unity look like crap.
and too many mouse options very close together can easily confuse people.

LOL. I love that.

You love it?

3:17 AM
The article is great.

It is terrible.

And, no you're right about the mouse options. Sorry about the miscommunication.
And how do you mean terrible?

The usecase is not something you run into everyday.

Well it is annoying to me though

The apps you use everyday, you would know the name of the app for sure.

3:19 AM
No, not everyday, but I end up using them quite a bit with UI designs.
@jokerdino Or have it docked.

Yes.
For an once in a month usecase, what's with clicking a few more anyway.

Oh no! The poor mouse! It has to move .00003 meters! (Sarcasm).

And even that can be solved if the games shows up upon searching for "games."

2buntu isn't finished yet right? cause I don't see any articles

Though if you really hate using the keyboard, it might suck a bit.
@iSeth WIP

3:23 AM
@jokerdino OK, got it
Does hibernating rely on Swap?
never mind. figured it out.

3 hours later…
6:55 AM
Back now.
Lesson learned: don't use the .tar.gz for pytz on Windows.
7-Zip chokes on symbolic links.

7:11 AM
appears

Oh dear.
I keep getting 413 errors.
I wonder if I have access to mysql from the shell.
Nope.
Okay, I have an SQL file that I need to import. What to do...
And the 2buntu blog is up!
9
Still working out some issues though - namely with images.

@GeorgeEdison boom
@GeorgeEdison What's the ip to the ssh server?

Just use the hostname bayes.ondina.co.

O.o My pubkey is rejected
that's odd
Did all the ssh keys get moved @GeorgeEdison?

7:26 AM
I thought they did.

@GeorgeEdison Is my key in the list?

I'll look.
Argh my site's down again!
This is getting ridiculous.
The site is down again.
I think I see what's going on here. This is serious.
This is getting too late.
I better tackle this in the morning.
Night all. Sorry about 2buntu - I think I've discovered a security bug.

Good Night @GeorgeEdison

Q: How can I take back my request for moderator attention

saji89I had used the it needs ♦ moderator attention flagging option asking for moderator to close this question, as I has asked it in past(when I was using Ubuntu 11.10), but now don't know the exact answer. But after some time I found that the posted answer is actually correct, as that is the setup I ...

8:34 AM
Hello all, I was reviewing askubuntu.com/review/first-posts/54174 and saw that it had error messages poorly formatted. I tried fixing that with four spaces in front of each line, but was greeted with message similar to "you need to change at least 6 non white-space characters". What is the rationale behind this limitation? I felt my edits greatly enhanced the legibility of the question ;)

it's a limit.

8:47 AM
Hmph. I disagree that it was a useful limit in this case. Could it be lifted?

I agree the limit is kinda limiting but I guess you can't modify the limit. If you really want to submit minuscule edits, get above 2k rep.

8:59 AM
Oh, ok, working on it ;) I think formatting error messages and commands properly helps readers, even if considered miniscule

I don't disagree. It can be pretty annoying at times but if you also fix some other issues in the post, you can easily get past the limit.

9:19 AM
Ok, I guess so. Got to go now.

Cya

<-- announces his presence Hi :)

Hi

reapparitates

Amith called you?

9:29 AM
called who?

The ghost

There is a ghostly faint Amith indeed.

9:52 AM
morning
o/

Hey @EvandroSilva

(:
does anyone here uses ruby?

jrg

hey @jokerdino o/

o/

1 hour later…
11:31 AM
o_o ... @jokerdino - what has happened to 2buntu - getting a internal error server web-page

The new one developed by George Edison has a security bug right now. So, it is down for bug fixing.
I am not too sure about the details but there were some complicated problems.

ok.. understand.
I see you are using v2.20 of apache ... none of the latest security fixes then! be prepared to be hacked.

oh wow
Whom should I ping? :D

11.10 ubuntu server? or 12.04?

I don't know actually.
Should ask Marco.

11:38 AM
from the version it looks like 11.10 - should be ok for the next few months. I would suggest marco needs to move to 12.04 - then relax for the next 5 years.

Yeah :)

1 hour later…
12:58 PM
appears

yo
can you fix the search box, pl0x?

@fossfreedom Good Luck
12.04
@jokerdino search?
Wat?

so it seems we know how familiar you are with the whole thing.

stackirc?

what?
#mechanig.

1:01 PM
The looking lens?

get the code and look at the FIXMEs :)
you should be looking at mechanig.py

Grr... IRCCloud, work
@jokerdino There's no code there
oh
the other branch

branch:keyboardwidgets

#FIXME: When one letter is entered, no clear icon appears
#FIXME: When pasted from clipboard, no clear icon appears
#FIXME: When entered text is deleted but not fully, no clear icon appears
That's odd
Did you try doing that on a new project?

run the python file so you can check the bug.
@AmithKK No, I thought you were going to do that.

1:13 PM
okthen
So, what all python modules are you using?

Nothing.

I'm getting an import error :P

py3
well, you need glade 3

Forgot that I reverted to a backup

so, it works right

1:18 PM
O.o
I'm at the latest glade and I still get import errors
Are you sure glade3 is in the precise repos?

what error?

amith@amith-desktop:~/mechanig$ python3 ./mechanig.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "./mechanig.py", line 2, in <module>
    from gi.repository import Gtk
ImportError: No module named gi.repository

it is not glade3. it is glade

I know

weird
it should work. just try ./mechanig.py

1:20 PM
This is also a certifiable bug
same error

lol you probably need gtk library or something

ok it's working
I just needed to open it in geany and run it from there
that's weird
OMGSEXY

the stock icons look like crap. we need new icons xD

if icon == Gtk.EntryIconPosition.SECONDARY:
            tool_entry_search.set_text("")
That's how you're clearing it right?

yea
that's if you click on the clear icon

1:30 PM
gtk_editable_delete_text( GTK_EDITABLE( entry ), 0, -1 )
Don't we have that in python?

haven't really looked into it.
pull-request when you have a working bug fix

@AmithKK apt-get install python3-gi is needed for 12.04

1:50 PM
A small question. Can I always use sudo apt-get dist-upgrade instead of sudo apt-get upgrade because the first command actually installs all the available updates => does the equivalent of the gui software updater?

you shouldn't really use dist-upgrade as it can mess up your dependency

why is 2buntu.com still down???

@Joshua down for me

@its_me I know, @GeorgeEdison broke it :-(

looks like a messed up plugin or db
hehe!
@jokerdino but the gui software does that
doesn't it?

1:52 PM
it does yeah
don't you hate it?

@jokerdino I really have no idea =D
I never had any problems. WHat problems can it cause?

use apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

(I mean dist-upgrade)

it can break your dependency and do unspeakable things to your pet cat.

@jokerdino what exactly do you mean by "it can mess up your dependency"
a little more explanation if you can afford

1:54 PM
hold on

sure thing!

@its_me what if you don't have a pet cat?

@Joshua yeah, i don't. :) I have a pet dog though

I do have a pet cat... I love her dearly.... however sometimes... I do wish unspeakable things to happen upon her...

1:59 PM
@jokerdino Okay, this kinda got me worried. Tell me one thing please. So, this is all I need to do ALWAYS? sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
@Joshua lol! And when would that be? 0_o

mainly when she annoys me... which is basically all the time....

@its_me yep

@jokerdino glad to have learnt something important. thank you very much

have a good day

And I always have to seperate my wife and her, they are always trying to bite each other...

2:01 PM
@jokerdino you too!

:)

@Joshua that's funny 'coz I thought only dogs are....

uhm

@Joshua I mean, I thought only dogs can be irritating sometimes (loud barking, jumping all over and stuff)
@jokerdino I know, I know =P

lol cats are the evil overlords.
@its_me nice try escaping :P

2:03 PM
@its_me yeah... my cat tries to be all cute and crap but it is just for show...

heh!

@its_me just when you think that you are getting all good and friendly is when she will lash out at you and stab your eyeballs out...

@Joshua so, cats dont BEHAVE like dogs do? I mean, I know for sure that a dog will never dare go against its parent (master)
I know very little about cats

cats behave tangentially to dogs.
3

@jokerdino I need to get one. my pup feels lonely sometimes =(

2:06 PM
If your pup is lonely, get another pup..
Getting a cat for the pup.. that is not right.

Ah... yes, you are probably right
but I doubt I can bear the over sweetness of TWO dogs :P

Well, get a girlfriend too.

yes, sir!

Then, you'd be too busy to even look at the dogs. :D

Girlfriends behave tangentially to Ubuntu.

2:11 PM
Hm, is that so?

not always.

I honestly have no idea :P

=D

Whenever I code my wife complains: "He sits"

@its_me this should help...

2:12 PM
fun read

and it is all true!

haha

Every morning at 5:30 am sharp: "Catch Mouse": The humans would have you believe that those lumps under the covers are their feet and hands. They are lying. They are actually Bed Mice, rumored to be the most delicious of all the mice in the world, though no cat has ever been able to catch one. Rumor also has it that only the most ferocious attack can stun them long enough for you to dive under the covers to get them. Maybe YOU can be the first to taste the Bed Mouse!

@Joshua this is my fav:
> Always accompany guests to the bathroom. It is not necessary to do anything -- just sit and stare.
very funny!

@its_me yeah she does that too...

2:19 PM
@Joshua just one question. When a cat is angry and gets to a corner, do the owners really fear getting near it? (I've seen this in some youtube video)

@its_me yes!....

@Joshua That's sad. I'd never be afraid of my dog. =(

One time my cat got a plastic bag stuck around her...not sure where she found it... but she was going ballistic... literally jumping off the walls... I had to use the end of a broom stick to get the bag off her... after the incident I didn't see her for another 2 days...

whoa!
By the way where is 2buntu hosted?

it is hosted on a server.
somewhere in US

oh they released it already?

@jokerdino oh, never heard of it before

@its_me 2buntu is hosted by ondina. Marco, one of our community mods runs it.

Oh, I see

brb

3:06 PM
@GeorgeEdison @AmithKK @RolandiXor-TheIceMan @Joshua @2buntu(whoever else is listening in) The issue with the server and the "security bug" are resolved
You're all live
GO FORTH AND BLOG

@MarcoCeppi muchos gracias mi hermano :'D

Q: Network sharing for android

ShagunI am on ubuntu 12.04 and I want to create a wifi hotspot to be used with my android device. Now I know there are so many tutorials available every where and that I have all options in network tab to use but I couldn't get it to work. Android does not work with an adhoc connection and whatever wi...

anyone any idea

6:30 PM
A big thank you to @MarcoCeppi for getting everything up and running again.
To all of the 2buntu editors: please hold off a little bit longer before writing anything.
The import still has a few quirks I need to work out.
