i think you need to post a detailed question with your setup. sounds like you're trying something NOT just install vsftpd as an ftp server

"i want ftpguy to have ftp upload access to var/www/xxx". you don't say whether it's the per user named folder or some generic ftp upload root directory shared by all users. you don't say if you're trying to set up a home-grown ftp upload thing with apache where local users are hosted web accounts. there's a lot of "make it work" and not a lot of use case explanation. i'm going to bed.

@jokerdino That sounds like something that ought to be addressed. My biggest worry, when that kind of thing happens, is that the unattributed content may later by edited and expanded, and then the derivative works might have to be taken down too. You might want to post on meta. Also, if it's only (or primarily) one user, I'd recommend flagging one of the problematic posts for moderator attention, and explain the problem. (Of course, plagiarized content can always be flagged.)

ohh In Ubuntu 12.10, Compiz (and Unity) are using Gsettings instead of Gconf and because of this, the "unity --reset" command used to reset Unity in previous Ubuntu versions doesn't work anymore. In case some settings are messed up and you want to reset Unity and Compiz to their default settings, here's a new way of doing this that works with Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal.

I have an application that I'd like to run, yet I'd like it to be visible only through a certain VNC port. I don't want the app to show up on the normal Ubuntu desktop. I want the app to run "in the background", and be viewable through VNC only. And when connected to this "alternate X server", ...
