Like a dummy I deleted the Ubuntu partition on my hdd and restarted my computer. Now when it boots up I get
Error: no such partition
Grub rescue>
I don't have a asus repair disk nor a Ubuntu disk
I'm using my iPhone as I don't have anything else. Am I screwed or is there a fix?
If a user, who have dual booted system (with Windows) accidentally deletes Ubuntu partition and He now only interested to get Windows back, should we help him considering that, He fell into the trouble using Ubuntu?
The question in consideration is this: Grub rescue please help
Ok. Doning Linux for the first time. I need to install Flash. The adobe instructions are a bit vague. It seems awfully complicated from a Windows user perspective. Is there a simple instruction for installing Adobe Flash plug in?
@AnwarShah When I have installed Ubuntu from the alternate CD (unlike installing Debian, or installing Ubuntu from the Server CD), I have not be asked what packages I want to install. However, if you have an alternate CD (or mini CD), you should be able to install a command-line only system (press F4 after selecting your language and it's one of the options), then install whatever packages on top of that you need.
In particular, you could probably do: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade && sudo apt-get --no-install-recommends install ubuntu-desktop
You might prefer to use some GUI more lightweight than the default GNOME/Unity one. So you might want to install lubuntu-desktop or xubuntu-desktop.
I have a external hard drive, and I can't change the permissions of one of my folders on it.
If I try to change the permissions in folder properties, nothing happens. It's like it is conflicting with something. It says I'm the owner of the folder
I even tried going
sudo chmod o+w FOLDERNAME

The account I'm logged in with now is one that I guess was made when I logged in for the first time. It uses my Gmail account to authenticate it. But I am working very hard to try and move entirely away from everything Google. I have an Android phone, but don't use the Play store at all. Instead ...
I am using ubuntu 10.04 (Bio-linux 6.0). Last night I tried leaving my system in hibernate mode because there appears to be a bug in this version of ubuntu such that if I do a straight shut-down, the machine will boot up by itself some time overnight.
This morning I could not bring the system ba...
Hi - got an open question: My 12.04-32bit keeps ticking every 2-4 seconds on the harddrive (I hear the buzzing) and Chrome browser uses 1.0G swap in nacl_helper_boo though all I have open is 3 webpages and a terminal in top, which reports that load average is ~.7 How do I figure out where the resource/memory hugging devil sits?
I had answered a question and got many upvotes for it. However, the asker accepted another answer as the correct one. I started a bounty on that question saying that one of the answers were exemplary (my own) and it was worth an additional bounty. However, I do not see a button that allows me to ...
Yes I asked: http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/5590973#5590973 adding ... and top looks like this...pastebin.ubuntu.com/1123048 and ...and top's view of swap looks like this... pastebin.ubuntu.com/1123066
@AskUbuntuMeta maybe this meta question should be asked another way to help the OP as i understand why its being asked. In the referred question the OP accepts own answer downvoted multiple times making the original question misleading. Valid answer gets many upvotes yet not accepted. Freedom of choice is one thing (and we have to comply) but you have to question the OPs integrity and sense of fairplay here
@jokerdino No.. I'm trying to home in on what the exact question should be. I only see symptoms and am hence hesitant to fire questions of in the wild without being more exact
@jokerdino Well I see that from top, but why does ?someprocess? keeping write to hdd. I mean there is loads of mem free and the only suspect I have is nacl_helper_boo that begs for 1.0G swap...
When I click on a website I heard the harddisk buzz for a second or two, though everything could be kept in memory. What can it be that keeps prompting the 12.04 to write something to disk?
I am facing a big serious problem.
Some of your guys may already know that

I tried installing Ubuntu x64. I mounted the .iso file using daemon tools, and copied its contents on my USB. I already configured BIOS to boot from USB.
I found wubi.exe in that mounted .iso file. I ran it and it installed Ubuntu, then it said, I must reboot. I selected reboot now options. Whe...
@Jorge Castro Hi there, just a quick comment, you edited one of my questions yesterday and added a graphical link. Wanted to let you know the link doesnt appear to work :-( askubuntu.com/posts/169805/revisions
Like this when you want a honking big button:
Or like this when you want an inline app link:
banshee
George Edison has a script here that adds a button to the Ask Ubuntu formatting toolbar.
Note, apps.ubuntu.com is the officialish way to link up applications in the software center as it ha...
@jokerdino Yes. btrfs is complaining about not having any space, and lightdm is uh, broken. So I'm doing a btrfs fi balance /, then a reboot, then if it solves that i'll try and fix lightdm.
@rolandtaylor: The elementary download page should say "Pick your poison" instead of "pick your version". I recommend we do a joke on them next release cycle.
