1:33 AM
@ThomasWard I am now

2 hours later…
3:03 AM
has Serg been in here lately?

No :(
@NathanOsman Marco is in your area this week, according to his Twitter

wow two updates on others' statuses... a bit creepy... helpful but creepy ;)

nothing that's not common knowledge

3:25 AM
Oh?
Cool!

1 hour later…
4:31 AM
So I signed up for a Citrix account and now I'm in an embargoed country...?
What the heck.

1 hour later…
5:52 AM
Question - which is a better investment - another 8 GB of DDR4 memory or a 250 GB NVMe disk? They are roughly the same price right now.

6:04 AM
@NathanOsman for editing your video projects I'd go for more RAM
Only if the videos are too large for RAM a NVMe disk may be an option

1 hour later…
7:14 AM
morning
quick question
what means this command line , pleasE?
exec ssh-agent bash

@JourneymanGeek hey Journey

Is this in... er... something like a systemd config?
the exec bit smells off

@JourneymanGeek I'm using that to run this ssh-add /home/miaou/priv_keys

ah miaou

7:16 AM
you know Miaou?

Had an instance 2 servers ago
might set it up if bored

you know Dystroy ?

Chatted a few times on his server

lol
small world, small world

exec does the same as ./ apparently ss64.com/bash/exec.html

7:18 AM
@JourneymanGeek cool
did not know that you were hanging here, too
thank you

ssh-agent does authentication stuff IIRC
bash ... I don't need to explain bash?

@JourneymanGeek nah
I'm trying to set a python ssh server
and I had some difficulties with server that have rsa keys

so correct question might be to ask about the difficulties ;p
rather than ELIF a bit of command line?

@JourneymanGeek the ssh-agent followed by a ssh-add solved my problem
issue is that I need to run the script as a two part
using bash with ssh-agent and ssh-add to create the socket then run my python program
there seems to be no way to have it both, at least with the library I'm using, pexpect

@Rinzwind in one of my post you suggested that don't install npm as root (check following question :askubuntu.com/questions/1034901/…) and then you yourself suggested that i should install npm in /opt/ which you saying are always for root only .I am new to ubuntu and this looks contradictory to me . further you said that i need to copy/symlink to the system itself .
I actually got few references for my problem through my own search and suggestions made by other ,I first checked this npm permission article docs.npmjs.com/getting-started/fixing-npm-permissions which suggesting to create a global hidden directory for npm updates and setting it as npm's default directory
but symlink should point to the updated version of npm which is in my home directory (npm config set prefix '~/.npm-global' )
so how to manage this symlink issue ?? please clear all these confusions ,thank you!

I used to be good at that in irc days :)

you probably need space before the pipe

Or something to keep me busier :)

@Fabby What in the world? WSL is on topic and Mint isn't supposed to follow Ubuntu's code of conduct (why would they?) so how in the world would they be "steadily refusing" to? And why would they be "under Ubuntu's umbrella" in the first place? Should Ubuntu be under Debian's? Come on man, don't post unsubstantiated rants as meta answers!

Anyone have a copy of the XenServer 7.4 ISO? :|

not me

It's a free download after you register.
But I can't create an account and login.

why not? >:) and I could create a login for you probably

It creates the account but it won't let me login.
It says "Sorry, your access is unauthorized."
And then a link that takes me to a page talking about embargoed countries.

lol
Welcome!
Redirecting to https://www.citrix.com/
I got the same notice :X

3:55 PM
Good grief. That's a way to treat potential customers.

I can d/l 6.2 :X

I filled in their contact form.
But I'll see if I can get anyone on Twitter.

they really don't like their software to become popular
xenserver is freeware? or licensed?
I thought it was free :X

It is.
It's open source, lol.

weird :D cant find a torrent for 7.4 either :9

4:00 PM
I can try bugmenot
It worked, lol.

ROFL
downloading?

Yup.
Well, hey. I tried to do it the normal way first.

you sure did! D: make a hardcopy! :D

I'll back up the files to my NAS so I don't have to do this again later.

5:04 PM
One of my friends saw the Citrix tweet while he was sitting across the street from their office :P

7:27 PM

but I still don't know what it's supposed to do...

7:43 PM
@Zanna you might want to tone the comments down a bit though. You're right and all, but y'know.

grr rage yeah you're right

8:03 PM
Whoop.
Sorry. Just tried out a new "word" I learned recently. Never mind.

8:20 PM
@Zanna Deleted mine upvoted yours.
CC @terdon
@terdon :-) See above... Thanks for the additional notice.

@PerlDuck :)
@Fabby sorry for the grumpy comments
(oops and double ping)
damn now we have to actually answer such questions D:
XD

Hi @Zanna. Sorry for the noise. Has nothing to do with the conversation here. I'm just watching "The Middle" and one of the characters keeps saying "Whoop" when he's excited.

@PerlDuck haha no worries. It's a nice cheerful noise

@Zanna LOL. I got the same impression when watching that show.

haha I'm even feeling slightly more cheerful myself now

8:39 PM
@Zanna I'm the grumpy old fart around here! :D :D :D
(and she who sleeps with the dogs...)
;-) :-) ;-)
@Zanna No worries: I cannot be offended in English!

hahaha

I was actually called "Hey, You silly cunt" for about 5 years by one of the UK Unix Admins instead of "Hi, how are you?"

@Zanna I don't know what made you upset right now but I know the feeling when someone posts a totally bullshitty Q or A and I think "YTF didn't you google that in the first place?!"

because he told me that in Enlish when no women were around, one man calling another man a "Silly cunt" was extremely funny...
... until a British colleague of mine told me that that word is worse then "the other word" and never to be uttered
She asked me about the situation and when I told her I was the boss of the Unix Admin's boss, she told me "He must've gotten a lot of street creds for doing that.

@Fabby perhaps he was after you

8:45 PM
also, she told me like 10 years after the fact ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@PerlDuck I'm usually sympathetic to the clueless OP... as usual it was the answerers not bothering to do proper research that annoyed me

You don't like people shooting from the hip, which what I was doing yesterday at 01:00 AM
Sorry! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't find anything wrong with that four letter word (when being used accurately rather than pejoratively hahaha), personally. One of my friends suggested that we should replace its usage as an insult with "Hunt" since "[c-word]s are great!", unlike Jeremy Hunt shrug
although I don't know why I'm getting involved in this line of conversation D:
I'm going to finish reviewing the close votes (OMG how did the queue get so long?) and call it a day before I do any more horrible things

Good luck then. I'll leave for today.

cya :)

8:55 PM
@Zanna :D :D :D
@Zanna to prove I cannot be insulted in English.

@Fabby nah, you aren't responsible for my general lack of composure atm. Will need to sort out some personal stuff I think

@Zanna Doing same so should be getting shorter. Doing all duplicates today...
@Zanna We do? You want me to come over and cook for you???
;-) :-) ;-) Tomorrow Im making a vegan dish:

not we, just me lol

Polenta con borlotti.

no, cooking is therapy for me haha

8:57 PM
@Zanna for me too.

yum... fresh borlotti?

for the fish-eating vegetarians there'll be cod in tomato sauce too.
@Zanna Dried... Soaking in white wine now!

blimey haha
asparagus season here

I once was lauded by my family in Italy for making the best Borlotti they ever had.
@Zanna Green? White, Both???
Yummmie!
until I told them I soaked them in white wine!

we only have green... never seen white except once or twice in very posh shops, and imported

8:59 PM
All the women were still impressed!
All the men thought it a waste of the wine!
:D :D :D

haha how is it a waste if it made the best beans ever?

@Zanna Typical Winter veggie around: Belgium (inventors) Netherlands and western parts of Germany.
@Zanna Because it was wine they couldn't drink any more!!!
>:-) >:-) >:-)

@Fabby that's why the bottle millions more :+)

I mean it wasn't like I didn't buy enough wine, it was that I wasted it cooking!
Same thing with grape juice: my family makes their own wine and when I asked as a kid if I could have some grape juice, it was like sacrilege: No! We turn this into wine! It's not for drinking now!
maybe @terdon can relate to -----^
It's just cultural...

9:15 PM
@Fabby Great, thanks

9:40 PM
No worries. Cultural question: can you buy grape juice in Greece?

9:58 PM
or at least wildly and terribly off-topic

looking
@Zanna Not spam, scam maybe, but not spam IMHO
Closed now.

surely scam=spam here

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@Zanna I mean: he's trying to build a SCAM website...

delete voted

(but too dumb to do it)
:D :D :D

10:05 PM
ah I see
retracted flag. But still delete voting

I can't delete vote that one...
Ah! needed additional downvote!

thanks

I know I'm a terrible listener, but every now and then I do listen!
:-) ;-) :-)
@Zanna I'm in need of some laughs... What's the funniest British Comedy series you've ever seen?
(knowing that I've already seen Benny Hill, Allo allo, Monty Python, Dad's army, Not the Nine O'clock news, Blackadder, Mr. Bean, Little Britain,
Ah! Found some BlackAdder specials I've never seen!

10:58 PM

OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, Microsoft.
Now my product key won't activate.

kek

Okay, here's what I did and it's weird.
I have Windows Server 2012 R2 running in VirtualBox with a fully activated product key.
I deactivated it using slmgr.
I installed Windows Server 2012 R2 on ESXi.
I attempted to use my product key that I deactivated.
It won't activate. Even by phone.
Then I reactivate the VirtualBox VM and it works.
:|
Argh.

11:14 PM

hehe
@NathanOsman they did weird stuff after 7

I still can't make it work. :|
It'll only activate on the other VM.
