i want to release a software developed by me as freeware.. how ever after i make considerable profits(from its commercial version), I'll release it as an open source. so, could someone please suggest me how i can release my app as freeware license. from where i can get that license
@pbvamsi Did you kickstart it?
@JoshuaRobison chroot
@AmithKK ya. its a working app and ready 2 release its first version
@pbvamsi Is it on Kickstarter?
@AmithKK, sure I can chroot into it but ... then where would I go from there?
@JoshuaRobison Use X and GDM to login
You can do it
09:09
i think so
ill try now
@AmithKK no its no where till now
Sell it on your website
@AmithKK no where i've released/discussed about it till now...
@AmithKK i can but i want to release it as an open source after i make considerable profits from it, i want to release it under freeware license
@AmithKK, i keep getting the error " error while loading shared libraries: libtinfo.so.5:"
when trying to chroot into it
@JoshuaRobison hmm
09:12
sudo chroot /media/casper-rw
ls /usr/share/lib?
it is a persistent live usb by the way
@AmithKK, no such file it tells me... i should bind mount that?
Hmm
Could I ssh into it?
i guess so. how would I allow you to do that?
@JoshuaRobison ssh-import-id amith
09:14
i havent worked with ssh much .. took a class in college but ...
Oops.. the last one was incorrect. I edited it
have to install ssh-import
justa sec
Wait
You dont have a ssh server?
you need to install openssh-server
@AmithKK, you are successfully authorized buddy
ok brb
@JoshuaRobison I need your IP....
09:17
openssh is already installed
also, try installing byobu
It will allow you to see me working
Your public IP address is 124.102.222.185
Whats the username
byobu is installed
username for what>?
For the system your on
or is this a LiveCD/USB
09:19
no this is my main system
the usb is plugged in though
The one you want to repair
the user for the system i want to repair is katsuya but how would you get into a usb stick system ??
since i cant boot into it
You boot into it with a live cd...
wouldnt you need an account user name and password for the current system I am on?
and running
ok anyways... the user name is katsuya... on the stick
@JoshuaRobison Ok let me get this straight
your now on a live cd as the user ubuntu Correct?
09:24
ok :)
@AmithKK, incorrect
@AmithKK, I am now running ubuntu 12.04 on a laptop booted from the internal hd
the live usb that I am trying to get the list of packages off of is connected to this laptop
@JoshuaRobison And you have your router configured to relay port 22 to that laptop. Correct?
@AmithKK, no ... i am connected wirelessly and would not know how to do that to my router
i would probably need an ethernet cable to get that working
hey guys, i got a problem with doing a fresh install of 12.04
it crashes
@JoshuaRobison Run this command:
sudo ifconfig | grep -o "inet addr:[0-9.]*" | cut -d ":" -f 2 | grep -v ^127
ok. here you go : 192.168.11.3
09:29
@JoshuaRobison And configure your router to redirect to there
i hope this is okay amit...i generally try to stay away from ssh-ing in to peoples boxes to fix things
Actually I'm also tring something in vbox
Here's what I'm vboxing
dpkg --get-selections > selections.txt
dpkg --set-selections < selections.txt
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
Looks like its working
i don't need to know, i'm just saying that i've never ever told someone to turn on port forwarding so i can get at their box remotely on a public forum
@aking1012 Oh and :D Its amith :D
09:34
actually I really just want to know how to get a list of installed software from this usb stick
Wait a second...
Dont you sleep?
i iz a machine
there is no place that just has a list of what is installed?
09:34
@JoshuaRobison Nope.. Not to my knowledge
he was right to tell you that dpkg --get-selections does that
i mean I guess I could just poke around in /usr/bin and get a general idea
or you can aptitude search '~i'
@JoshuaRobison There??
Heya @badp
@AmithKK, im here but ive gone a different rout
im doing this now dpkg --get-selections > installed-software
lol... Its still runnng?
09:46
yo
and then just configuring the list I made from this system and just put that on the new usb stick
\o/
Good
wish I could get a list from the dead usb stick though
You could
How many minutes do you have?
thats the one I configured .. spent hours
but chroot isnt working
09:47
Ok
if i could chroot into it that would be great
Do this operation
sudo cp -f /usr/lib/ <path-to-usb-stick>/usr/lib/
@JoshuaRobison --^
@badp Whats Up?
@AmithKK, or why not sudo mount -o bind /usr/lib <path to usb> ?
ceiling
@JoshuaRobison No, We're not just trying to chroot
I have a hunch that this might revive your system
09:51
ok done
now try chrooting
chroot still gives me the error "/bin/bash: error while loading shared libraries: libtinfo.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
"
ls /media/casper-rw/usr/lib | more
accountsservice
aisleriot
...
@AmithKK, ^
so the lib is there but .... not sure what the error is
that libtinfo file is no there however
ls /media/casper-rw/usr/lib/libtinfo*
ls: cannot access /media/casper-rw/usr/lib/libtinfo*: No such file or directory
Good Luck I'm out of Here

@jokerdino Are you from tamilnadu

is there any way in the 12.04 to set the colour of the launcher and not have it inherit from the background.

Q: Unity launcher refuses to open properly

rlemonI have just fresh installed 12.04, there were a handful of packages that were upgraded right away (12 or so). Aside from that I haven't tweaked or installed anything else. I have gone into my System Settings -> Appearance -> Behavior tab and turned on Auto-hide the launcher. At this point pla...

@rlemon i have mine set to fully transparent. i suppose you could set the icon color so when it 'illuminates' it gets brighter, but i don't think there's a unified way to do it for all launchers
@rlemon what video driver are you using. i get this behavior more often with fglrx than the open source driver
11:40
@AmirthamPurendraRamanB sorry went AFK to get my dinner. ping me when you come back again.

Q: Problem with installation of camera drivers

MagdaWhen I install my video camera's drivers with a command: modprobe usbserial vendor=... product=... it gets installed as "sg3" instead of something like "ttyUSB0". Why is that? I did look at the dmesg, it looks like this (this is where I got that it is sg3, I am not a daily linux user, I just ...

12:03
@aking1012 how do i find out which driver i'm using? (it's my home pc, upgrading my work pc today)
lspci | grep vga and running jockey. lspci will tell you what vendor, jockey(additional hardware) will tell you if you're using open or closed source drivers
can you comment in the question with that? :P like I said i'm still 8 hours away from being able to test this :P
work and home hardware greatly differ.
there you go
ty
hopefully I can get work pc upgraded before my dentist appointment.
you should be fine. it all went really straightforward for me
12:11
On 12.04 now
yea home pc i ran the 'upgrade' from the software center and had nothing but problems. then i fresh installed and the only bummer is that launcher issue.
i upgraded through apt-get on my laptop without any events, but the desktop always gets a clean install

Q: Problem with Chrome sync

Gevorg HindoyanI have problem with Chrome sync. Don't know this problem is with Chrome or Ubuntu but I will ask question.When I starting Chrome its saying that there is problem with syncing. I'm signing in again and when I close Chrome and open again its bringing that error again. I am using Google Chrome 18 an...

ah sorry. hello *
@GevorgHindoyan does the problem evidence in chromium as well or just chrome
sorry,but i can't understand u.
chromium is the ubuntu version of chrome
does it happen there too, or just in the google version
yeah i know,don't know because i am using Google Chrome and Not Chronium
okay, i would think if you wanted me to switch browsers to figure it out, you could install chromium to find out if it happens in both places
13:27
but all reviews under that soft is bed?!
then don't, i was just expressing what i would do if i were looking for help
thanks in any way
@GevorgHindoyan Can you quote the exact error message?
than i must exit chrome and again come in

A: Hide 'Your profile could not be opened correctly'

hhlpi know you change the permission of that file but the problem is that you have read access of some of your files in the default chrome directory, similar bug here, with no solution at the moment : the solution must be : Open a terminal, type this mv ~/.config/google-chrome/Default ~/.conf...

13:34
i would add that to your question. it immediately makes me think you ran your browser as root
It's a dupe @Gevorg I have marked your question as such.
Let me find the other dupe answer.
@jokerdino +1
askubuntu.com/questions/32706/… another dupe. this answer is a little straightforward.
thanks
can i flag my question as a duplicate?
you can just delete it if it doesn't have answers yet
13:45
@aking1012 thanks
6 loads of laundry....why do i put these things off this long...
to be fair, I'm washing every piece of fabric i own
hi @MarcoCeppi
Thanks @MarcoCeppi, That was very generous.
14:25
I'm guessing this is bad: paste.ubuntu.com/957584
Why are you running it as sudo?
why not?
nvm
You don't have to run update-manager as sudo, IIRC
And, I can run that exact command without any problem. :(
yeah, something weird is goingon
marco@work:~$ update-manager --dist-upgrade
ERROR:root:Cache can not be locked (E:Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied), E:Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?)
$ update-manager --dist-upgrade
ERROR:root:Cache can not be locked (E:Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied), E:Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?)
Darn this.
Assuming you haven't googled it.
14:35
I haven't
I got bored
I keep myself entertained by trying to bork my system as many ways as possible.
Bounty offered: Inconsistent booting problem 12.04LTS on Asus U46E RAL7 http://askubuntu.com/questions/126149/inconsistent-booting-problem-12-04lts-on-asus-u46e-ral7?atw=1 #boot
do you guys know how to change the sample rate of the sound in ubuntu 10.10?
@Prasad it's defined in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf
thanks,oh it's already 44100, and do you know how to map the speakers correctly? my center speaker outputs rear left sounds! and Subwoofer outputs center!, and etc... I got intel ac'97 audio (analog devices soundmax 1888jcpz), any idea to change those?
@AmithKK - can you discard that and refork it. I added some stuff and cleaned it up a lot.
15:12
@Takkat Ok, something just happened after following that and restarting pulse, but problem exists , may I send you the Daemon.conf ?
@Prasad I have little experience in doing that (due to my tiny little 2.0 system I have here).
thanks, I see a huge difference now, but don't know what it is, do you see any problem here, it's a onboard soundcard
Put this line in your /etc/pulse/default.pa
@Prasad: wait a minute I have another idea.
For 5.1 you need to set the default-sample-channels=6 and you also need this line there: enable-lfe-remixing = yes
w00 pirated movies.
if that was a mistake is that ok for Ubuntu? I mean, copy right violation or something...
15:25
I don't actually understand your question.
From what I see, they are all in the trash.
My trash is empty ;)
Yes they are in trash but they are accessible for thousand of peoples
Not for me :"(
Seeding eh?
@Takkat Then what about channel-map?
15:27
@Takkat when did you download 12.04 i downloaded the release day
@Prasad they are defined in ALSA iirc - but also in pulseaudio - that may cause issues.
@Achu I upgraded the day before release then downloaded the day after release from the official servers.
@Takkat then should I leave it alone?
And more love.
@jrg I'll be setting up servers behind this connection :)
jrg
jrg
15:30
@MarcoCeppi Yay! Servers! :O
@Prasad they should be fine with lfe-remixing and when set to 6 channels.
@jrg that's where ondina is going i guess?
@aking1012 No, Ondina is at a proper datacenter. I'll have to run a speed test next time I'm there
Thanks for spending your valuable time sharing "Humanity" I appreciate that!
15:40
But the problem exists! (this thing worked properly on 5.10 , I think because it uses alsa) I have proper drivers for the sound card by the manufacturers, but I don't know how to install it properly, tried many times, it ends with broken sound. thanks for your help! need to shut this Theater now or father will shout for the shaking ground, good night people (or morning) bye
Good night @Prasad. Keep your dad happy! (by 5.1 I meant 5 channel 1 subwoofer)
@Takkat @jokerdino OMG! i'm really sorry it's my mistake. When you plugged in your Hard drive, the hard drive trash directory will be gone automatically into your computer trash folder as TEMP directory. that is why i see those files :) big sorry! how i dare i think like that?
@Achu it's always a good idea to empty trash every now and then ;)
You right!
reminds me of doing so ;P
trash emptied
jrg
jrg
15:51
All cleared up @Achu?
@jrg YES, Thanks!!!!
what you mean not everyone deletes by zfill-ing?
guess i'm a weirdo conspiracy nut
jrg

@Achu :)
@aking1012 Heh. Mom thought I was crazy for always using the "secure delete" function in Mac OS X.

Q: Can a linux user change their password without knowing the current password?

cwdI'm setting up a few ubuntu boxes, and using opscode's chef as a configuration tool. It would be fairly easy to install public keys for each user on each of these servers, and disable password authentication. However, the users should also have sudo privileges though, which by default requires a...

Hi all, I was wondering if Gnome 3 could possibly display notifs like gnome 2?
I hate the new way to notif
And the only guy I know partially (@jokerdino) is asleep :/
I've not heard of notifs
think he means notifications, like the event bubbles
16:14
yep
libnotify and notify-osd have both been upgraded, I doubt it'll be easy to use an older version
@jrg did i missed something?
@MarcoCeppi :'( no way to go back ?
jrg
jrg
@Achu did you enter in your current password?
@HackToHell not that I know of, no easy way at least
16:16
@jrg NO Do i have to?
jrg
jrg
Yes, you have to.
@MarcoCeppi which one is responsible for the actual notification. i was digging about, and it appears notify-osd is python...so it could be not too horrible
:/ @AmithKK Is that I image directed at me ?
jrg
jrg
@aking1012 except that notify-osd isn't used by gnome shell iirc
16:19
@aking1012 I think notify-osd does the actual notification, libnotify does the management of notifications
i'll sticky-note that for myself and come back to it
@JacobJohanEdwards we might need to repurpose a question for "my laptop is overheating what are my options" or something for all these heat/fan related questions.
Is the Ubuntu wiki a little old ? wiki.ubuntu.com/NotifyOSD#bubble
jrg
jrg
it's a little old, but the bubbles and stuff are still the same.
@jrg It is
jrg
jrg
16:25
@AmithKK oh, til. I thought gnome was staying away from notify-osd for some reason.
pretty sure they don't use notify-osd
Let me log out
notify-send
uses notify-osd to send an update and gnome seems to use it
I am gonna try this
notify-send talks to libnotify
and both the gnome thing and notify-osd talk to libnotify
Most things I've seen can talk to either one just fine if they talk to libnotify
@JacobJohanEdwards aha! Found this too: askubuntu.com/questions/4408/…
@JorgeCastro Does not seem to be working, it will not become a bubble :'(
16:40
gnome shell is broken
:D
How do I kill all processes run by jrg?
@AmithKK you eliminate all the high resource usage ones, and only kill the efficient processes
@aking1012 no, I have a user name named jrg and I want to log him out
pkill -u jrg
16:56
@htorque or @fossfreedom Any idea if this is easier/less sucky to adjust? askubuntu.com/questions/72452/…
jrg
jrg
@AmithKK what are you doing on endeavor?
because whatever it is, i don't like it. ;)
@jrg uh.. What?
jrg
jrg
You're trying to kill all processes by jrg - i'm the only jrg I know that you know.
@jrg On my computer
I was using gdmflexiserver to test gnome-shell
ugh.. why do simple things cause me so much grief...
