Trying to chronicle my experience in getting this jenkins CI / Build server tweaked and tuned for optimal performance at work. Then i'm going to repeat the process next weekend as an open stack build server and see how long it takes between the two.
compared to the last time i did this - open stack is winning by about 4 hours.
cool - done. That was fun. 6 hours to configure and get full build / deployment capabilities for 12 repositories. Feelin like a boss. G'night everybody

I'd rather say disable USB in the BIOS, or have a look at /sys/bus/usb/devices/ and check if some of those have a "remove" file you can echo "1">remove into.
Though the latter option is kind of advanced usage.
You can replace the background image for the launchers with a transparent one. In a terminal, run the following (this is for Ubuntu 12.04, in 11.10 you'd change the path to say 4 instead of 5):
Backup the original:
sudo cp /usr/share/unity/5/launcher_icon_back_150.png{,.back}
Edit the file:

Someone could funnel near anything over ssh. It's a poor man's vpn/proxy-chain. Is that what you were asking? Or was it, do governments in some countries have ways to mitm everything?
@Mysterio I only run AMD...when I saw your question, I checked the kernel bugtracker and could only find one open overheating/intel bug that was never closed, but it was b/c the OP/community never followed up with hardware details
that being said, lots of people are having video-card/heat issues
These regressions, I read, have been dealt with in the Linux kernel 3.3. I can only hope Canonical was able to back port the fix in the Ubuntu kernel for 12.04

I created a Debian VM on VirtualBox with two interfaces: a NAT one (for accessing internet) and a host-only one. However, I do not know how to make both interfaces work at the same time. If I the define the host-only as the adapter 1, I can access my VM from the host but not the internet; if I de...
One large advantage for Apple and their developers, is that they get to pick the hardware they want to support. Ubuntu, and Linux in general, needs a great deal of extra complexity due to the need to deal with so many variations of hardware combinations.
It seems to me that Linux in general coul...
