@jrg yeah when I did a search on google it was ahead of the linked one
yay! 32 v. 64 bit again!
jrg
jrg
@JorgeCastro Ok, fair enough.
@JorgeCastro ok, just cleaned it up a bit.
jrg
jrg
Rather than delete it outright, I deleted the two answers, so that way we keep our google-fu and still redirect everyone to the right place.
(because neither had any votes...)
yeah that's what I meant
iirc I put "redirect" in the flag but I don't remember
jrg
jrg
you wanted to delete the whole darn thing. ;)

oh
oh well, same thing

@lazyPower - you said you were doing testing on amazon S3, just thought I would make sure you've seen this: uksysadmin.wordpress.com/2011/02/17/…
bookmarked for later reading - thanks!
Trying to chronicle my experience in getting this jenkins CI / Build server tweaked and tuned for optimal performance at work. Then i'm going to repeat the process next weekend as an open stack build server and see how long it takes between the two.
compared to the last time i did this - open stack is winning by about 4 hours.
03:15
@MarcoCeppi ok how about now
now are you swamped?
lol, this could get interesting.
04:06
cool - done. That was fun. 6 hours to configure and get full build / deployment capabilities for 12 repositories. Feelin like a boss. G'night everybody
glad you finished
have a nice sleep

Looks like I'm back In buisiness
That service is awesome
How does it work?
@AmithKK I might be careful with that...I imagine it uses some FOSS facial recognition/geography software and eye/mouth orientation isolation
try putting in an image with a dozen faces in it and see what comes out
'Face Recognition by face.com'

Q: Who is Mark Shuttleworth's wife?

ohaiI have been using ubuntu for years and now I'm just wondering... Who is Mark Shuttleworth's wife? When they get married?

creep alert? :D
Yes, that's ... I wouldn't ask that question.
Creep Detected
Anyways, It's still a valid question
From what the internet has told me, wifes are crucial to how ubuntu moves forward
I'm of the opinion it's outside of scope for the site.
Its in the scope of the now-not-yet-created SpouseExchange™ website
07:58
Is this a far too you could break stuff doing this? askubuntu.com/questions/124354/…
@aking1012 Nope
You can revert to the old kernel
I'd rather say disable USB in the BIOS, or have a look at /sys/bus/usb/devices/ and check if some of those have a "remove" file you can echo "1">remove into.
Though the latter option is kind of advanced usage.
that is a way better/fine-grained way to do it
i think that answer would get in to how do i know which port is which though...still better
put the computer in a steel box with a lock. problem solved.
^-- :)
08:13
It all depends on the reasons he wants to disable the USB port.

A: How I turn off backlight around switcher icons

htorqueYou can replace the background image for the launchers with a transparent one. In a terminal, run the following (this is for Ubuntu 12.04, in 11.10 you'd change the path to say 4 instead of 5): Backup the original: sudo cp /usr/share/unity/5/launcher_icon_back_150.png{,.back} Edit the file: ...

If for "security", sure.
If it's because he has one of those USB toy christmas trees and he wants to turn them on and off, not going to work :)
should i better go: open as user, save to /home, move to /usr/...?
gksu gimp will fill /root with gimp config...
@NiekBergman then my answer would be: "get your fat a** out of your chair and unplug the tree" - KISS principle! :D
kidding aside, if the answer is "recompile the kernel", then we should probably ask for the bigger picture.
@htorque I'ld just sudo rm -Rf /root/.gimp*
@htorque: well, there's something to be said for computer controlled lighting :)
@htorque: Go take a look at drivemeinsane.com
08:18
@htorque good point, he was a little vague
that's like subseven in the good old scriptkiddie days :D
@NiekBergman wasn't that on Big Bang Theory?
nice answer
08:32
@aking1012: I've actually had stuff hooked up to that site before too :)

@NiekBergman Is that real
@AmithKK: What is? The DriveMeInsane website? Yes, very much so.
@NiekBergman Is it yours?
@AmithKK: no.
@AmithKK: Though I've been on camera there a few times, and have had some USB goodies hooked up to it.

Oh, @lazyPower got to it :D
@aking1012 Whats your email ID?
Gmail :D
if you wanted to find it you could following links on my profile page
@aking1012 Not the website one, your personal one :P

Hello @rlemon
hola
Nice work!
you know it
@rlemon Heh...
It would be cool to have a meme tag for se chat
[caption:image.jpg:TopCaption:BottomCaption]

easiest way is to search for *.png
*.jpg
*.gif
@htorque say wha??
@AmithKK what the?
#mustacheday
12:43
@jokerdino he just saw mustachify.me and he's looking for stars
@aking1012 that deserves a star. very well put :D
Awww... Dont star that
Makes me a Mario
(Not that that is bad)
@aking1012 Can one hack through a ssh?
a default one
Someone could funnel near anything over ssh. It's a poor man's vpn/proxy-chain. Is that what you were asking? Or was it, do governments in some countries have ways to mitm everything?
nah
I was bored and was thinking somebody can try and hack my ssh server to get access :P
And your a penetration testing guy :D
If it's a relatively modern ssh package, bruting is about all that's left afaik
12:52
Mordern? Its the default one on 12.04
hello
Hey @Mysterio
how do you do @AmithKK
@Mysterio I'm fine for now.. How are you :D
12:53
I am also doing great by God's grace
Can anyone confirm if the overheating/power regressions bug affecting most Intel processors has been fixed in 12.04? cc @AmithKK
I'm not sure
Im on a desktop with Pentium 4
@jokerdino --^
why me??
I am stuck with Windows as 11.10 is literally TOO HOT TO HANDLE
oh the power regression seems to be fixed. though i might be off
@Mysterio I only run AMD...when I saw your question, I checked the kernel bugtracker and could only find one open overheating/intel bug that was never closed, but it was b/c the OP/community never followed up with hardware details
that being said, lots of people are having video-card/heat issues
13:00
I pray this problem does not reoccur in 12.04
My old laptop made loads of fan noise, bad fan, but I couldn't replace it as the screws on the back were worn out so I couldn't take them off.
It died saturday :(
Last saturday.
you can retap screws
@NiekBergman RIP old laptop
@jokerdino: Thanks.
I literally can't live a day without that thing though, so I went on a mad quest yesterday to locate a replacement.
I managed to find someone selling the exact same one (except not broken) and willing to sell it to me on a Sunday.
These regressions, I read, have been dealt with in the Linux kernel 3.3. I can only hope Canonical was able to back port the fix in the Ubuntu kernel for 12.04
13:02
Except it was like a 3 hour ride to and from.
(6 hours total, I mean)
And why exactly that laptop? Well, it's a ThinkPad X61 tablet, enough said :P
@Mysterio if it's a known issue and it's not open on launchpad, they probably backported it
@aking1012 it's a known issue with the mainline kernel. How do I check if it isn't open on Launchpad?
bugs.launchpad.net package - linux
can't see any open bugs related to linux @aking1012
13:14
you should play with launchpad more. there are some on there, i just don't see the one you're referring to
It seems this issue has been fixed as a bug I subscribe to has a comment about the issue going away in 12.04 beta
@Mysterio i looked when i saw your question...as i already stated, but i can't confirm it's fixed. i just suspect it is
ok thanks @aking1012 for you help
no problem. if you try out 12.04 when it goes stable, just post the confirmation on your question so it can close
yeah I will definitely do that
13:33
one question, how do i delete all the files i have recorded in a text file?
they're absolute urls right?
does sudo rm $(cat file.txt) work?
yeah they are urls i guess

Let's not keep guessing anymore.
awesome - like that bird
that's no guess
It took him forever to get a new name. shrugs
"quantal" is a bit... too much for my taste :D

quantal ~ adj very rare
1. of or relating to a quantum or capable of existing in only one of two states
icons and fonts..
this guy writes no basic stuff.

I can give a class on how to destroy your Ubuntu install in 5 mins.

lol I joke I joke.
wiki.ubuntu.com/AskUbuntu <-- what to do with it? :))
@jokerdino I don't get it...
@JorgeCastro can i be a placeholder for now until someone is going to do a lesson on Ask ubuntu?
@TheX you don't get what?

much of anything really to be honest
i don't get you either.. :/

hmm I told you my idea, but it was over-aggressively down voted
@TheX LOL you almost got us killed :P
Well at least I am useful for something.
after a lot of fretting, figured out how to add it in.. wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOpenWeek
now, just wait for dpm to reply and swap places with him
and then perhaps get @amithkk to do the lesson \o/

I almost think we should make a community wiki answer that just refers to psycho cats ...
Where are the psycho cats? I want to get one for my wife!
I think she would enjoy one (she is a bit psycho herself)
looks over his shoulder
@Alvar why?
can you fix and update that site? Can I?
15:23
@JorgeCastro because all the accepted answer are commands from that site..
@JorgeCastro true...
jrg
jrg
We have no control over the content of psycocats. Nobody does.
Its entirely at the whim of the site owner
@jrg ok
well they reference it
@jrg someone has to have control over it.
except for perhaps may be the psycho chats.
15:24
referencing it is fine
@TheX your wife
is hot?
controls the site ;)
Half the point of doing askubuntu is so the community can fix content, not rely on blogs on the internet no one else can fix
6
oh right of course
15:25
I asked the psychocats guy to get involved in AU but he didn't seem interested
i think he is a forums guy.
i remember seeing him in the forums.
ok, but you could probably find out how he came up with the commands and then just do that in the future..
when is Ubuntu for android going to be released?
that's really the only reason I'm thinking of buying and android..
jrg
jrg
15:28
@Alvar when its released.
it hasn't been announced yet
@jrg ok, is it this year?
@Alvar yesterday
“Ubuntu is the killer app for multi-core phones in 2012”
@Imnotthisperson ...
jrg
jrg
Might be, might not be. Nobody knows for certain.
Not in the canonical tag, doesn't look like a dupe
15:29
that's annoying..
it's a unicorn question though
will it be free?
any answer would be speculation
oooh, almost as much reputation as TheX :P
Jorge, can we delete this wiki page? wiki.ubuntu.com/Ask%20Ubuntu?action=show&redirect=AskUbuntu doubt it would be useful?
15:32
@Alvar Yeah I have been slacking lately :-D
@TheX hehe, me too :P I'm in school and all :P
Yeah... I work... and have a wife... and you know...
@TheX yeah, I've got a job, school, and no life...
@jokerdino we put it there as a placeholder in case we needed it.
so we need a maintainer, sorta?
15:33
It wouldn't hurt to put useful things on there, links to tutorials, etc. so if people want more info
yeah
So... we are about in the same spot, just substitute wife for school.
being empty is fine though, it's better than having someone making something up
jrg
jrg
@Alvar Thats a redirect to the proper page
@TheX it's about the same amount of time spent.
@jrg ok...

Q: Does Canonical have any plans for selling/certifying laptop hardware?

user50849One large advantage for Apple and their developers, is that they get to pick the hardware they want to support. Ubuntu, and Linux in general, needs a great deal of extra complexity due to the need to deal with so many variations of hardware combinations. It seems to me that Linux in general coul...

@TheX +1'ed coz you are a teacher.
@jokerdino I am not a teacher...
no you are
No my wife is.
15:41
@jokerdino -.-
@Alvar I walked away at the precise moment you sent that message
i was looking at another tab..
> someone should blog "Forums user of the month" on planet or something
Interesting idea.
are you enjoying talking to yourself?
yes. i am awesome like that.
Okay, as long as someone is enjoying it.
15:50
blogs.gnome.org/hughsie/2012/04/23/… - trust me, beefy miracle would have been an awesome name.
(Suddenly I feel like I am posting my potential tweets in this chat room)
lol
@jokerdino are you an ubuntu member?
yeah :S
He should be.
i am weird, i know
15:54
I want to be a member, anyone want to put in a good word for me?
@fossfreedom is this up to date? askubuntu.com/a/72801/235
@jokerdino "AU top users of the month" would be awesome
the site already makes it for you
adds it to the list of things he should do
lol my ranking is terrible
@JorgeCastro right, that would be cool. bringing more exposure to Ask Ubuntu.
and also to reduce burden on Marco :P
#36 Month rank?
15:58
I think someone should just do a monthly report of Ask Ubuntu... Hmm
yeah
with top questions, etc.
that is also done for you in the email newsletter
you could combine the two, it's not even more work
askubuntu has a newletter?
@TheX Of course it does
right, i will start from the month of May onwards.
