If a question fits both as a bug-report and abandoned, which one do we go with?
Doesn't matter.

askubuntu.com/a/107693/25798 <- is my answer correct? o.O
Isn't it tar -xzf. Don't you need the dash?
Is it? I never use them..
And also, won't you need root privs. to run make install?
bah, just delete it.
But looks like you don't need a dash or sudo.
04:58
Does upvoting a question push it to the active pile of questions?
@nitstorm No but editing will.
@jokerdino What actions bump a question to the active pile? Other than editing..
Bountying.
Also the Community user can bump a question every so often.
04:59
He does it once an hour
@GeorgeEdison How do we get the Community user to focus on a particular question?
o.O
What question are you looking into?
@nitstorm You can't.
Ah...
@jokerdino Looking into this beautifully written question macha - askubuntu.com/questions/89467/…
@jrg Congrats on your diamond! (though it was a while ago)
05:02
Uh-oh... Launchpad isn't letting me commit.
@jokerdino But then, I don't want to offer a bounty on it, coz the user never logged back except the day after he posted the question so the answer if any will never be accepted or even verified
@nitstorm bumped it up by cleaning up the content.
@jokerdino :D Thanks :D

Does anyone know if I can assign keyboard shortcuts to menu items?
Lie
Like OSX
which application?
all
For instance I want to be able to change the keyboard shortcuts for "Copy"
In OSX I can just assign a custom keyboard shortcuts and I type "Copy" there. Every application has a Copy item in Edit menu so it works for all applications.
i see.
not that i am aware of, i need to dig in a bit.
What I'm actually trying to achieve is to get the cmd key behavior of OSX
gnight
06:36
have you asked on the main site yet?
no not yet
i thought maybe it was trivial
but i guess it's not
i'll ask now :)
thank you.
@george two different computers?
One is for my VM.
I'm trying to think of what the other is from.
06:41
may be you deleted the other one?
@jokerdino: askubuntu.com/questions/107846/… does this qualify for a close? I think there should be a dupe of something similar maybe for other flavours somewhere...

Q: How safe is it to use the "ubuntu+1"?

JustinasSo I'm thinking about reinstalling my system (I've been running Debian-based distro Crunchbang for about a year now). I've used Arch Linux before and I like living on the bleeding edge, yet I also love apt/dpkg (yes, I know I could just go with Arch, but somehow I really really like Debian-base...

@nitstorm it is a dupe, i think. i was just exploring that.
@jokerdino Thanks :)
@jokerdino :D Let's vote to close
subjective
me needs 533 nore rep until I can close vote
Ironic, isn't it? I spend 5 minutes on an answer and get 15 upvotes, and then I spend an hour on a question and get 8 upvotes.
@William Accept your answer on askubuntu.com/questions/107538/…
06:51
Cant.
Have to wait until tommorow.
Two days before you can accept.
I asked and answered it last night.
@jokerdino No, it says tommorow.
Two days from the time you asked the question.
@jokerdino Ah!!! Keep forgetting that!
Oh.
Me is almost to 2500 reputation.

A: There's no way to mark a question solved when you figure it out yourself.

jokerdinoYou can answer your own question and then mark it as the best answer after two days of asking the question. It won't be considered as an unanswered question if there is at least one upvote on the provided answer. There is even a badge promoting such a behavior.

@William Goes on a short upvoting spree :P
Max three upvotes before you trigger the alarm.
@nitstorm Thanks.
Three?
three every how often?
@jokerdino Really? Oopsie, gonna stop :P
I can only upvote a user 3 times over the course of thier time on AU?
06:55
@William @jokerdino means like in quick succession over a short period of time
How short and how rapid?
There a meta post on this?
anyhoo, i gotta run now.. Catch ya boys later
I searched but did not find.
@nitstorm bye :)
bye nit
you wouldn't know the exact mechanism of course.
hmm?
/me is not following you.
How often can I upvote a user before all heck breaks loose?
06:57
they won't reveal the exact details of what triggers the alarm and what is the duration.. etc.
three is a safe mark.
I see.
But you know.
Or you guess.
@jrg mass upvoted me once.
Did not end well.

A: How do I make a Theme from scratch for Unity?

fossfreedom11.10 and above Creating a theme for 11.10 and above (GTK+3) is fortunately very similar to 11.04 and previous versions of Ubuntu that used GTK+2. This answer is based on the already excellent answer from Rinzwind. Its easier to amend an existing theme rather than to tackle a theme from scratc...

You've seen that answer right? :)
07:23
wah, forgot about it.
and thanks for the accept :D
You're welcome. I kinda liked your explanation most. It is easier for newcomers to understand. :)

Q: When will Ubuntu migrate to GTK+ 3.0?

Moma AnteroI just got known that GTK+ 3.0.0 has been released. Will Ubuntu 10.10/11.04 come with runtime libraries for GTK+ 3.0? Are these installed by default? oh aptitude aptitude
wherefore art thou aptitude
why do you feel the need to install 11 packages
out of nowhere
and fumble on the 32bit/64bit distinguo and try to install both versions of 4 packages
and decide the only solution is uninstalling 280 other packages
Synaptic doesn't have this problem but... it's not thou, Aptitude!
(also, what happened to ctrl-arrow for workspace switching in Precise? ctrl-shift-alt-arrow still works...)
oh, Win-Alt shows a cheatsheet, that's nice

can you temporarily drop elevated permissions? e.g., very late in a script i have to do sudo magic, but i don't want to wait for that to happen and just start it sudo'ed.
