we have a winner!
quit?
well done @OctavianDamiean! It'll be a pleasure using this logo
winner?!
O.o
what have I missed?!
I looked at my profile yesterday to look over some old answers to see if I should remove the bad ones. I thought I didn't have more than like 10 answers, just realized I have 62 O.o!!! and 74 questions! :P
I should get a life...
@OctavianDamiean I'm three years younger than you...
@OctavianDamiean you have way more time than me to spend asking/answering questions.
and I don't even know one programming language...
Meh, I don't even care. Just won a competition.
is quite happy
ubuntu orange cross - we'll help you! :D
20:08
We sure will!
oh wait, that's inverted.
so it's still "ask switzerland" :P
Which is a beautiful country. :D
xD
chocolate and cheese
Toblerone ftw!
20:09
@htorque or it's red cross
the medium version :D
It cannot be red cross cause it's white.
It can at best be white cross. :D
@htorque you mean breakfast
@htorque Well thank you ... now I want a Toblerone ...
ditto
and the closest gas station too far away :D
20:15
ooh, the store closes in 45 min...
the new logo is live now \o/
gosh I love 90's music... listening to scooter! :D
late 90's this is..
20:17
yeah
90's euro dance trash is better than everything they play nowadays...
I've forgot what all the good 90's songs are...
I say only one word. Nu-Jazz.
this one ofc
@OctavianDamiean -.-
@StefanoPalazzo Is there a special reason for the grey background? I mean is that on purpose?
20:19
I don't know, I think this is their background for transparent images
I should probably upload one with a white background
Oh, interesting.
grey? it's white, the logo..
@StefanoPalazzo I had something to ask you... but now I've forgotten what it was.
I think it had something to do with Python. I'll let you know if I remember what it was.
was it about the victory chat or anything?
I'm not sure - you put the code for it online?
20:24
yeah
I think you gave me the link but I've lost it :(
jrg
jrg
Congrats @OctavianDamiean
Thanks! :)
granted it's not easy to find
jrg
jrg
20:26
PSA: If you're reporting a bug in cleanup, then please add it as an answer here, the [bug] tag on meta is for bugs in the stackexchange software, not oli's thing. :)
7
Right, the SE team monitors the bug tag.
jrg
jrg
Yup. I'd like to make it so they don't go and scold us. :)
@StefanoPalazzo Thanks.
good oscar night, all!
Won't be good for me because of you @htorque!
I want Toblerone but I don't have any!
20:31
@OctavianDamiean Hey - I just noticed that you won the logo contest. Congrats!
Thanks. :)
@StefanoPalazzo: Ah, here's a question - does Ubuntu package CouchDB for Py3k?
@GeorgeEdison there's no need for that. VC2 just uses plain HTTP requests to talk to couchdb
@StefanoPalazzo That shows how much I know about CouchDB :P
an API in between would only make things needlessly complex
20:34
So I only need the couchdb package and not python-couchdb?
that's right
you need to install couchdb, go to the _utils/ page, exit "admin party mode", set up a new admin and enable HTTP basic auth
all of which, I think, you can do from within 127.0.0.1:5984/_utils
Ah, okay.
jrg
jrg
@StefanoPalazzo Sweet...
btw, someone was looking for a chat system like VC last week, so you might have some pull requests soonish... assuming i can remember to mention it to them.
cool
well like I said, there are still some unfinished things
@StefanoPalazzo How do I enable HTTP basic auth in CouchDB? I'm at _utils/config.html and I can't figure out which setting to change.
Is it under httpd?
20:49
@GeorgeEdison check that "couch_httpd_auth" is in "authentication_handlers" and that "require_valid_user" (near the top of the page) is true (also, bind_address should be 127.0.0.1)
asus p8z68 ubuntu usb3 does not work http://askubuntu.com/questions/108006/asus-p8z68-ubuntu-usb3-does-not-work #usb
Okay, thanks.
@GeorgeEdison let me know if it works, it's completely untested
jrg
jrg
I'll just blame precise on that when I try to login. ;)
@jrg did you set the correct host in settings.ini?
config.ini I mean
[global]
; remember to add the port to the host, even if it is port 80
Host = localhost:9311
jrg
jrg
20:55
oh, thats what i missed.
for the demo, this says "chat.plzz.de:80" (or it would, if there wasn't a reverse proxy)
jrg
jrg
no counchdb username/password :)
yup, setting the couchdb settings (aka, nill) worked.
so transcripts don't work.
wonder what it'd take to build that in...
Seriously, why would someone use the Hungarian notation in a loosely types programming language?
That just doesn't make sense.
jrg
jrg
I should be a real jerk, rewrite it in ruby and submit a pull request to Stefano with it. ;)
I'd ask someone to hack your Github account for that. :D
jrg
jrg
20:59
bug 1: Its not ruby.
basically, there's a database for every room, called - for instance - vc_room_x9a8s2_messages
the transcript would just get a page of documents from that, and display it
but I guess you kind of need to know both python and couchdb to do it. it's not totally trivial
merely the html for it would be a great pull request for a start though :)
Back from lunch.
Now to get this chat thing working...
Cloning Git repo...
Launching python3 run.py...
jrg
jrg
set your db creds in config.ini?
Oh - I need to do that I guess.
Also, doesn't OpenID require a publicly accessible endpoint?
That won't work in my VM... at least not without some hacking.
jrg
jrg
@GeorgeEdison should just "work".
21:12
How?
jrg
jrg
no idea.
just do it, worked fine for me. :P
I know.
I have a hostname for my machine.
jrg
jrg
and then you can ask the genius who built it how it works.
@GeorgeEdison it will work, I think, even if you can't access the machine from outside your network. google will return a Location header, as long as your own browser understands it, you can log in no problem
What about Yahoo? Same idea?
21:13
I added @rolandTaylor to my g+ feed a moment ago, and instantly I couldn't see anything but his posts. -.-
3
yes (assuming I'm right) that's just how openid works
Sure enough - it works!
I am sooo going to charm this.
One sec... I'll make my instance public...
@GeorgeEdison charm?!
@Alvar Yeah - Juju charm.
googling
21:18
Can anyone else access home.quickmediasolutions.com:8011
I think VirtualBox is messing something network-related up.
jrg
jrg
no data received.
Heh... weird.
I hate Ubuntu.com there isn't a quick page that just says WHAT IS CHARM COME ON!!!
21:19
why isn't that the top 3 when googling?!
That's what I get when I set a hostname.
@Alvar What terms are you Googling?
@Alvar and someone starred this trash?
@GeorgeEdison Juju charm
Seriously.
21:20
@Alvar You're missing the Ubuntu.
@RolandTaylor damn right!
You're just doing it wrong. :D
@OctavianDamiean why?
@OctavianDamiean ubuntu has failed not me.
jrg
jrg
@Alvar @RolandTaylor glare Relax you two.
@GeorgeEdison can you show me your config.ini? (remember to remove the password)
21:21
With all of the mature people who have me in their circles, why haven't they gotten upset and removed me?
oh, it's because I'm in windows right now!
@Alvar Oh come on. You are searching for an Ubuntu technology. What do you expect?
@RolandTaylor they've found a way to ignore you.
@jrg I guess I should leave, my nose has me worked up already, so Alvar just makes matters "better"...
@RolandTaylor I'd never remove you. But you do post quite a bit :)
21:21
-_-
Google does not have telepathic abilities.
jrg
jrg
@Alvar Alvar....Calm down.
@jrg wasn't really serious...
@StefanoPalazzo there is a big difference between posting a lot, and posting a lot of "nothing"
21:22
you post too much
but I would to have a stream of just you
and then remove you from my "little of everything" stream
@GeorgeEdison ah, thought so. the first pair of host and port is the host you want to bind the http server too - if you want everyone to be able to access the server, this would be "0.0.0.0" and some port
the second is your publicly accesssible hostname, i.e. the chat's domain name plus port
that's the bit you need for OpenID to work
@RolandTaylor but you post a lot of everything :P
@StefanoPalazzo Okay, works now: home.quickmediasolutions.com:8011
21:25
yep, works!
@GeorgeEdison yeah I should remove that link. it's just not implemented
jrg
jrg
and now its showing them as all being starred...
I'm closing down my instance now.
Well, that was fun.
22:02
@RolandTaylor are you in ninja mode you aren't in the user list on the left O.o
Two implementations of a body-border.
Which is better?
...or more specifically - which looks cleaner?
Why am I getting random Ask Ubuntu questions/comments on my blog?
jrg
jrg
22:21
@jokerdino Because that good sir, is what happens when you become popular.
Sigh.
Are you on 12.04?
jrg
jrg
not right this moment, no.
need to do some A/V work, and gstreamer is still broken in 12.04
Hmm, just want to know if gedit has a quicklist.
Does it have one in 11.10?
jrg
jrg
doesn't have in 11.10
jrg
jrg
22:25
doesn't show here
might be a bug
does not appear in the .desktop for gedit
Right. I am going to get it patched. :D
jrg
jrg
go for it. :D
Qt Creator has one annoying bug - it doesn't keep track of what files I've modified very well.
So if a program crashes after I run it - sometimes all I have to do is rebuild the project and it works.
(In other words - some files that should be rebuilt aren't getting rebuilt.)
BBL guys.
22:54
Anyone using the latest build of StackApplet?
23:15
@GeorgeEdison there was an update today, right?
1.6-0~18~precise1
There might have been early early today.
Yeah - there is still lots to do.
I'm trying to fix the notifications right now.
There is a popup as well though I'm not sure how it works with Unity.
23:44
do we have a troubleshoot answer for questions like this:
