i like how you just casually dropped that question in chat like it's no big deal

yes
then we all know where you live

also, sheffield seems to be in the literal middle of nowhere
no whole-home cat5 or any wiring other than electrical, radiators for heat (so no HVAC), wifi propagation might be annoying.
looks in need of repairs
wallpaper seems to be bad.
not a fan of the stove/oven placement tbh

@KazWolfe it just needs some tlc...

i hope you like pulling cable

I don't mind pulling cable...Actually I kind of enjoy it...

8:10 PM
i'd get a copy of the house's blueprints from the local bureaucracy
1.5 baths may create a bit of a choke-point
your best ISP choice would be Mediacom, unless you want to go through Frontier.

$149,000 - what the heck?

That's one year's rent for a dumpster-sized apartment in San Francisco.

That home would be $800,000 where I live.

5.6 bedrooms
lol

$858/m for 30-year fixed?

8:17 PM
christ, even i can afford that.

Dude, I so wish we had prices like that here...
To be fair, that's with a 20% down payment.

@NathanOsman that doesn't include insurance and taxes...
probably closer to 1k a month...

Yes it does.
It says that it includes property tax.

Oh does it.

So that is stupid cheap.

8:18 PM
that's lower than my rent for a house!

You can barely rent a 2-bedroom apartment suite here for that price.

screw that, santa monica one-room, with roommates is 2000.

You guys are getting hosed.

I'm acutely aware.

Yes, of course.

8:21 PM
and no HOA

lol poor nathan

Yeah well, that's life :D
I've learned to live with it.
That and really slow and expensive Internet.

TIL Canada is like the combination of rural California and downtown Santa Monica.

Not really, just the major cities.
Most of the country is different.

well, we don't have telus so...

8:24 PM
We have the west coast, which is mostly mountain and forest; the prairies, which is mostly farmland and mining; the maritimes (east coast), which is fishing and whatever-else-they-do; and Ontario / Quebec, which is everything else :P
Oh, and the territories, which is basically the Arctic.

They use animals in their ads.
It's a thing they are known for.
(Bad service being the other.)
:P

so, random snow leopard is random.

@NathanOsman have you thought about contacting OnePlus to see if they'll unlock B66?

random upvote explosion is random
who the hell uses band 66 besides V20 phones
i'm just waiting for OnePlus to add full band support to the OP4 or whatever.
which honestly makes sense for a "universal" phone like they like pushing
just go all SDR or something

8:35 PM
Besides Sheffield my be in the middle of nowhere, but I like the middle of nowhere...

8:50 PM
@Zacharee1 hmmm... I suppose I could.

@NathanOsman also ask them about Qi charging, SD cards, and all the bands.
i'd actually like IR too, but i don't need it, but if you're writing a wishlist, add that too.

I don't need SD card support.

Oh, and add a user-replaceable battery.

Qi would be nice though.
@KazWolfe that would be nice too.

doesn't matter, just add it to your wishlist message :D
just so they know there's demand
actually ir would be pretty cheap, you just need to use a few GPIO pins
basically make a phone that just decimates the V20 in every way.

9:07 PM
QI charging is awesome...

yeah, there. Qi, replaceable battery, full band support, IR, SD card slot.
kickass phone get!

9:25 PM
@KazWolfe OP might not need a time machine.
Hah!

> I want to run another application alice (that will be using bob's results)
Meaning, it needs bob to complete and output results before it can run, no?

someone should give that ---^ as many stars as Kazwolfe's "OP wants a time machine"
Nope, read the answer..

@Fabby why did you not retag

Meaning?
OP's question?

you edited the question
but you did not re-tag it.

9:28 PM
Didn't look at the tags...
/shrug

hm, 10 away from cap.

@KazWolfe Capped

\o/
wait, sleep passes stdout?
or how would you even do a redirect with a sleep?

@cl-netbox : one for you, to make you smile
@KazWolfe sleep just sleeps
the bob program can pass it's output to a named file in the background...

and then alice can read that file from stdin. yeah, that could work.

9:36 PM
I've got a splitting head ache
Going to sleep...

while (Fabby.hasHeadache()):
    Fabby.consume(aspirin)

while (Fabby.hasHeadache()):
    Fabby.sleep();
better then all these pills!
Good night!

9:56 PM
ey that's pretty cool linuxbrew.sh

@arda but apt
i mean, yeah, non-root/single-user utils, but...

I'm installing neovim, which doesn't have an ppa apparently
Only way to install is brew, and linuxbrew is perfect for that.
scratch thata
It's on official repos

really, apt should offer a chroot-style flag to allow you to install to your own user domain

No its not
dammit
> ppa:neovim-ppa/unstable

10:01 PM
@KazWolfe was it you who said they'd be surprised if I made a DOS Bootable USB?

@WinEunuuchs2Unix nope.

too bad... I wanted to say I did it :(

@WinEunuuchs2Unix I made a bootable DOS Floppy disc...

@TheXed Whatcha want a Computer Science Ph.D? :p

But that was probably 10 years ago...
@WinEunuuchs2Unix no, I was just trying to do a low level format on my hard disc :=P

10:03 PM
I was tempted to by a USB floppy drive a couple years ago just for the fun of it but then I thought....naaaaa

(mostly because i've made them)

how does a low level format different from "format c: /s/v"? I forget now... I think I used to know decades ago though :(
Thinks to self this is something old retired people talk about!

low-level replaces everything with 0.

I'll have to teach you guys my dd if=dev/zero of=/dev/sdb error 2 weekends ago :(

use code formatting for code, not regular markdown, please.

10:07 PM
who me?

yes, you.

it doesn't work in chat
dd
see ^^^

yes it does: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb

yes it does :P

doesn't look reversed on my screen

10:08 PM
explodes

here are normal is: iii // here are preformatted is: iii
here's a side-by-side: iiiiii

it's just a non-proportional font... can't tell it's code really.

eew at side by side

@WinEunuuchs2Unix monospace = code

@KazWolfe dark background with light letters should = code.... Fix the chatroom please!

10:10 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix . Go ask on meta.askubuntu.com

[tag:you're it]
oops that didn't work :(

one of those two.

I really don't like asking for things... It's not in my nature.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix then it's not going to happen

Yup... found that out not having a girlfriend for 20 years... thanks for pointing out the obvious ;)

10:12 PM
also...

Q: Can we have highlighted code blocks in the chat rooms?

Stefano PalazzoAt the moment, code posted to the chat rooms only differs in the font that's used. It would be nice if, like in comments, the code was highlighted by a different background colour. The way it is now, I sometimes get confused about where a piece of code ends. This works very well in comments...

I +1 stefanio Pizanni's post.

me too
well I already did

but I retaliated and dv'd the answer >:)

you developed the answer?

10:14 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix downvoted ;)

Oh I didn't read the answer...hang on.

A: Could "code" in chat (markdown with backquotes) change the background like on the main site?

uɐɯsO uɐɥʇɐNI have written a UserScript that automatically highlights code in chat messages. Example: More information and download links can be found here: Highlight Code in Chat - Highlights <code> elements contained in chat messages

Courtesy of @NathanOsman, click here to install now.

I dv'd too....that guy's rep was one of my favorite numbers 563 we can't have that!

can we get attention to that topic? :P maybe after 5 years someone would implement it :P

@Rinzwind nope, see above.
SE ignored it because Nathan wrote a userscript.

10:16 PM
@KazWolfe so? :P incorporate the darn script!
Resistance is futile! Your scripts will be assimilated!

@NathanOsman you're are the king of answers yet to be questioned ^^^^

@Rinzwind you can add a bounty to that MSE question.

@KazWolfe eh no??

@Rinzwind then we're not getting it, it's buried.

Nathan should have handed out that script to us this Christmas like milk & cookies for Santa.

10:18 PM
My MSE rep is pretty low ;)

@Rinzwind obviously. At least 1

@KazWolfe Thanks for Nathan's link. I created a stackapps account just so I could upvote him and leave a nice comment.

he's a sucker for nice comments >:-D

I also got a 100 point uselses bonus :p
If I had to vote for nicest guy in Linux it would be @NathanOsman !!!

heym the script works. cool.

10:22 PM
lol

Doesn't work from my point of view... don't see any code blocked out

you doubted Nathan's coding skillz?

stop using crap browsers and use decent ones lol
problem solved.

I'm telling Google you said bad things about Chrome :p

@ThomasWard like firefox?

10:23 PM
@ThomasWard are you using MSIE? >:)

@Rinzwind no, actually, but your user agent says you are.
@KazWolfe CHROME > Firefox > MS*

I think my Sony TV has "Opera" maybe that will work?... hehe

@ThomasWard ABUSE!!!11!!!

@ThomasWard yeah I like to mess with people >:)

SHOG!

10:24 PM
lol
in any case user agents can be spoofed
mine is

I know
mine is too
1st line of confusing the outside world :D
I also have a router with a honeypot >:)

I think I know what spoof means but what's a user agent?

@WinEunuuchs2Unix it is a string in your browser telling the outside world what browser it is

don't. use. unnecessary. formatting.

you can tell chrome it is firefox or msie or opera

10:26 PM
You just preached to me to use code blocks no you say don't use them....grrrrr

Use code blocks for code, not bold.
Don't use code blocks for non-code.

lol
"user agent" aint code ;-)

Get's bold... thinks in italics* Writes code KazWolfe = noop
hehe

TFB BB2M :=)

use excessive formatting and I will sic @ThomasWard's lasers on you.
Or just @ThomasWard. Either/or.

10:28 PM
you can have the whole night thinking about what TFB means :=DDDD

@KazWolfe the lasers were replaced.
they consumed too much energy

@KazWolfe now don't be evil like @ThomasWard :D

and i was tired of switching out fuel rods.

I think hydrogen fuel rods for cars will be the wave of the future... smarter than Tesla and more environmentally friendly.

The Hindenburg disaster occurred on May 6, 1937, as the German passenger airship LZ 129 Hindenburg caught fire and was destroyed during its attempt to dock with its mooring mast at Naval Air Station Lakehurst in Manchester Township, New Jersey, United States. Of the 97 people on board (36 passengers and 61 crewmen), there were 35 fatalities (13 passengers and 22 crewmen). One worker on the ground was also killed, raising the final death toll to 36. The disaster was the subject of spectacular newsreel coverage, photographs, and Herbert Morrison's recorded radio eyewitness reports from the landing...

10:30 PM
Instead of a conventional gas station, or tesla 30 minute battery charging station you would drive up to a hydrogen fuel rod exchange station.
@KazWolfe the oil industry and Military Industrial Complex conspired to blow that up. Just like the head of the Syrian peace delgation for 5 million Damascus citizens to get drinking water was assisinated today

Hydrogen is a chemical element with chemical symbol H and atomic number 1. With an atomic weight of 7000100794000000000♠1.00794 u, hydrogen is the lightest element on the periodic table. Its monatomic form (H) is the most abundant chemical substance in the Universe, constituting roughly 75% of all baryonic mass. Non-remnant stars are mainly composed of hydrogen in the plasma state. The most common isotope of hydrogen, termed protium (name rarely used, symbol 1H), has one proton and no neutrons. The universal emergence of atomic hydrogen first occurred during the recombination epoch. At standard...

Thanks for definition of Hydrogen... All I need to know is it is limitless energy supply and when burned creates water

ie no pollution... the best design is creating it from solar power, wind power and tidal power to make.
ewww a web site with .gov extension... or .gov or .gov or .gov depending on how many lumps of formatting you like in your tea :p
hehe

drops @WinEunuuchs2Unix into a vat

10:35 PM
Anyway my point is batteries are harmful to the environment and China and Saskatchewan have the global supply so hydrogen is better for the world.

fills the vat with ice-cold licorice herbal tea

The talk of converting solar to battery storage is a non-go in my opinion.
earl gray - hot

Solar cell efficiency refers to the portion of energy in the form of sunlight that can be converted via photovoltaics into electricity. The efficiency of the solar cells used in a photovoltaic system, in combination with latitude and climate, determines the annual energy output of the system. For example, a solar panel with 20% efficiency and an area of 1 m2 will produce 200 W at Standard Test Conditions, but it can produce more when the sun is high in the sky and will produce less in cloudy conditions and when the sun is low in the sky. In central Colorado, which receives annual insolation of...

I like Liqourish stuff :D

this is why nuclear is a good idea.
it's safe, and it can be easily stored in the likes of batteries.

10:37 PM
@KazWolfe all those links are TL;DR I get enough layman's stuff on the news.

and doesn't run the risk of turning every car on the freeway into an explosive fireball.

A hydrogen fuel rod in 1" of steel would be hard to explode.... Plus the hindenburg was basically a giant ballon filled with hydrogen...different technologies.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix You're assuming the news is unbiased and isn't pushing their own opinions on you.
We all know that's completely true. *glares at FOX news*

@KazWolfe Maybe the news is reading this chatroom and will take your thoughts and put them in the next day's news cycle!

@WinEunuuchs2Unix They wouldn't, because my ideas aren't in line with their ideas.

10:40 PM
You know Fox News Network abbreviates to FNN which expands into Fake News Network ;)

@WinEunuuchs2Unix That's extrapolation.

I can't extrapulate the meaning of extrapoliation.

i'm really questioning your sanity.

I know it violates the rules but can we talk about Ubuntu for a second? Anyone tried version 17.04 yet? Comments?

throws /dev/full at @WinEunuuchs2Unix

10:42 PM
@KazWolfe You should question my sanity because I keep coming to this chatroom to talk about Ubuntu and it seldom happens, yet I keep coming back again and again and again like a noop

@WinEunuuchs2Unix [Off-Topic for Chatroom] Bug reports and problems specific to development version of Ubuntu should be reported on Launchpad so that developers can see, track and fix these issues.

insanely sings: I'm a noop and I'm okay... I work all night and I code all day :p
@NathanOsman is chatroom mod... I'll ask him to render judgement ;) ^^^^

coughs, and spreads fires throughout the room
I'm sorry I assume we forgot about me :P

well at least you didn't whistle whilst you spread the fires... that would have been too obvious

*casts Resist Flame on self*

10:46 PM
@ThomasWard you are a chatroom mod?... I thought you were mainsite mod along with Seth and Muru and only Nathan was chatroom mod.

Chatroom mods have italic names.
We have none of those here. Only fullmods. Nathan is not a fullmod on AskUbuntu, but Thomas, etc are.

diamond mods are implied chatroom mods :P

I don't recall Nathan's name be italicized though....

Muru is also not a full site mod on Ask Ubuntu.

we have orbital strike power in chat.
and the blue diamond nick overrides room owner priv, which is italic names

10:47 PM
diamond powers give you network-wide powers in chat.

^ that

lol@orbital strike powers... now that's a good phrase.

This room has no room owners. For whatever reason.

Well Thomas now that you mention it your name is blue... but not in italics like Kaz states.

Blue overrides italics, and replaces them.

10:48 PM
all the room owners are diamond mods, lol

I redact this statement.

Why does hairboat have explicit write?

So I can create a room called let's gossip about mods and I would be diamond mod and could kick out all mods that enter the room? Hmmm.... :)

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Nope.
You need to be elected a diamond mod.
If you do that, you'd only get room-owner.
Even so, you can't remove mods, because they have the same implied powers as you, and you can't remove said powers from them.

10:51 PM
@KazWolfe B66 uses the same frequency range as B4, so it's a simple software change.

@KazWolfe There goes that fantasy sigh

@WinEunuuchs2Unix they can still view transcript
Other than that, it'd likely work.

@arda So can the NSA... but they get paid to do it.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Anyone can view a transcript of anything except a private room.

and only diamond mods can create such private rooms.

10:52 PM
like room 205 here.

@KazWolfe I wouldn't even trust private rooms to be truly private... years of experience

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Private to all but mods, SE staff, and people explicitly invited to the room.

The SE software is cool

@chili555: Do you happen to know if the situation concerning the RTL8821AE has changed during the last year? I'm asking because of this question.

David haven't seen Chili in this room for about a month.

10:55 PM
so I learned something, 16.04 runs smoother than my older 14.04 install was lol

Well now 16.04 runs better than 14.04 but that wasn't true in August 2016.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix You haven't seen him. He was here recently.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix He should see the message in his notification list though.

@KazWolfe Thanks for correcting me.... I've never seen David here either until just now.

I'm not here that often either.

10:56 PM
By the way David you have excellent close review skills!
maybe you can teach @KazWolfe and @Zacharee1 how to do CV's :p

Thanks. I keep a list of reappearing applicable comments handy.^^

What

lol

@WinEunuuchs2Unix You're not 10k. You don't get to talk.

@DavidFoerster Interesting. I was wondering about having some sort of clipboard of often repeated duplicates so I didn't have to repetively search them.
@KazWolfe Some day I'll be higher than you in rep... after my dd question and answer takes off :p

10:58 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix: Oh, for that I use the form history of Firefox. When I type into the duplicate search box it'll show me matching URLs that I used in the past and they usually contain the question titles.

@ThomasWard, potential bug. I can't grab other users' review history. Is this intended?

@DavidFoerster I can't use Firefox because it doesn't work for full screen of my second monitor... at least it didn't work 4 years ago.

anything I pass into the userId argument only returns myself.
Actually, @WinEunuuchs2Unix, looking at the review boards, you can take a lesson from David.

@KazWolfe what do you mean? (I can see yours fine)

@KazWolfe isn't that "hacking"?

10:59 PM
@ThomasWard discord, because reasons
