Hi

@Serg Since the discussion is moved here: Yep, but the questionh is how to order them :)
...merging abc + def into adbecf is quite different from abcdef. Exactly like the accepted answer in the linked dup reflects (the first output). This question asks for the second output. –
But let's see indeed. Unclear (for other reasons) is true.
Hey @IanC

how are you doing @Serg @JacobVlijm?

@IanC Fine! how are you?

@JacobVlijm all good, only a bit tired from work

@IanC what time (zone) are you in?

10:05 AM
@JacobVlijm I know those two methods are different, but judging from OP's post, they aren't doing adbecf. If they simply want to do cat file1 file2 file3 > out.txt , that's a duplicate anyway. It's just a matter of what OP wants , because there's already tons and tons of questions about merging files

@JacobVlijm GMT -3 (+ Summertime), it's 8:06am here
got home from work a few minutes ago, graveyard shift this week until tomorrow

@Serg Absolutely, but the question is to what dupe we should link him. He seems to want to merge only specific files. I think there is where the dupe definition is.
@IanC Aaaargh, so you worked through the night...

@JacobVlijm yeah, at least this shift is ending, so I get 2 days off :D

@IanC Nice! 11:10 a.m. here...

@JacobVlijm True. Let's just wait and see

10:14 AM
"The Package System is broken", omg, is it a nightmare beginning?

Nope. A nightmare by definition ends when you wake up.

lol
the kernel-generic package had broken dependencies, trying to fix it

Meanwhile, I'm just AWKing and BASHing around, like it's a right thing to do at 3:19 AM

10:30 AM
Aaand added Python and Perl. Smexy !

@Serg go sleep...

@JacobVlijm @_@ No.Must.Make.Scripts. I can't resist my addiction

@Serg I know the feeling...

Just woke up... good morning !

Ha Mark

@Serg variation on "Alcohol causes more damage than you like"

Lovely XD

And I just added xargs. Probably that question won't get any attention at all

Q: I need to get into the setup utility on an Acer Aspire 3620

John LandsboroughThe bios utility has a password and I don't know it.

@KazWolfe how's this ? askubuntu.com/a/872159/295286

Q: Why do we have to lose hibernation data when we mount NTFS read-write?

Mark YisriI understand that hibernation prevents (by default) the user from mounting their disk in read-write mode on Ubuntu. Attempting to use read-write forces erasure of hiberfil.sys. How do I keep hiberfil.sys (and still mount read-write)?

duped
@KazWolfe there another +1 from me >:=D
@Serg nice one on the port scans :)

Thanks :) I kind of feel there's a lot more i could add, but it's enough for now
Interesting. I've learned that . . .there's something known as icmpsh , a shell that uses icmp only, so scanning for TCP/UDP network won't work. security.stackexchange.com/a/148371/121824

11:58 AM
@MadaraUchiha @terdon : I wrote an answer which may solve the problem ... hope it helps ... :)

A: Trying to install Ubuntu results in freezing splash screen - nomodeset did not work

cl-netboxFirst things first ... SCHENKER ships the same notebooks which are based on CLEVO barebones with Ubuntu preinstalled through their sub-company TUXEDO ... so it just must work somehow. Even that I don't know the exact model you are having ... it is a quite new machine because it has the latest ...

Good morning everybody ! :)

Morning

@Serg Hi Sergiy ! :)
@MadaraUchiha I think we can get it done ... please proceed as described ... it should work ! :)

Begone , spam daemon
I thin i need to learn how to relax

12:15 PM
@Serg I am afraid we are not capable of such a complicated thing as relaxing.
...tried for many years

Yeah, it seems like that. When I'm working on any answer, i tend to tense up like almost every muscle.
It takes me some effort to sort of let go

@cl-netbox boxy!

@Serg ...because you feel you are in a hurry, but the target is always one step ahead of where you are.

Yup. Always trying to get it done as fast as possible
woah, that was fast
I didn't even get to flag , awwww

This is the situation of a scripter; you'll never get there where you aim for.

12:26 PM
Well, if it's ambitious, big program, then sure - ideal image is different from what the result is in the end. But with something like this : unix.stackexchange.com/q/337504/85039 where you need to make bunch of links from a list, i'd say one can get close enough

Nice. You do realize that a split life will make it even more difficult to relax?

Split life ? What do you mean ?

...across SE sites
Even more questions to look into...

Yeah, I know. But I don't answer too many questions on U&L. Maybe one or two when i have time. So, AU still takes the majority of my time
So I think it won't add too much difficulty

There is only AskUbuntu! :=)

12:37 PM
@Rinzwind True of course :)
...or true, depending on the language...

Or : for bash folks

There never was any doubt! Doubters should be eradicated :=)

What? are you running for president?

Erradication is path to the dark side, not the way of Jedi that is ( says, Serg, in Yoda voice )

@Serg the jedi killed more people than you want us to believe! :=)
:)
brb

12:41 PM
rbr

Well, at least Jedi kill in defense . . . Sith kill for fun or whenever they wanna
also, bbr
or rrb . . . or lol
omg,lol,bbq,wtf ?

for s in [omg,lol,bbq,wtf]:
   s = True
...going to grab some food brb

map(lambda x: x = True , [omg,lol,bbq,wtf])

Wat?
That makes no sense...

@ByteCommander shhhh, programmers relaxing . . . when we are, we don't need to make sense
4

12:52 PM
We need to make no sense
Finally, an interesting question. ^^

Aaand gone

1:08 PM
@Rinzwind Good afternoon Rinzy ! :)
@MadaraUchiha @terdon as an informational addition to my answer : I again tested booting the installation media ... removed the 3 characters (---) and added nouveau.modeset=0 ! Worked perfectly ! :)

does boot repair also fix windows boot? >:)

1:23 PM
@Rinzwind no ... but maybe it destroys it ! :D :D :D

@cl-netbox That's a good answer :)

@Hizqeel yes of course ... inspired by Michael Jordan ... :)
@Hizqeel no ... not owned by Michael ... owned by Nike ! :)
@Hizqeel the brand was called : Nike Air ... I had some ... :)

@cl-netbox opps.. yes u are right, Its was produced for Micheal and owned by Nike...... What I was typing O.o

@UbuntuUser Hey ... Hello CUU ! :)

@cl-netbox How are you?
@cl-netbox Now I have 107 rep, almost 100 rep from edits! :D

@UbuntuUser I am fine ... wrote a difficult answer today ... hope it works for the user ... :)

@cl-netbox Well I'll do some rep-hunting! Bye!

2:50 PM
@UbuntuUser Congrats (again) ! :)

@cl-netbox Do you know how to make a virtual machine?

@UbuntuUser a joke ? :D
@UbuntuUser of course I know ... I use some ... :)

@cl-netbox No, do you? On ubuntu 16.04
@cl-netbox OK I didn't know

@UbuntuUser what ? don't understand ... :)

Here I'll make a chat and we can talk in there.
@cl-netbox Can I ask you to help me learn how to use a virtual machine?

2:53 PM
@UbuntuUser Yes you can ... but it has to be specific what you ask ... there's some home work for you to do

@cl-netbox Well EVERYTHING on askubuntu is pretty much homwork! LOL

@UbuntuUser for a good start : sudo apt install qemu qemu-kvm virt-manager

@UbuntuUser yes ... why not ? :)

See you there!
@cl-netbox Hello? Did you click on the link?

I'm off to start cooking!!!

or i'm just tired of being ill

anyone read A Series of Unfortunate Events?
@ThomasWard "ill" -- are you British now?

4:41 PM
@Zacharee1 would you rather me be saying i was hacking and coughing and throwing up all over people sick? Or would "ill", a word that covers all that, work?

you could just say "sick" :p

ill is easier to type

sigh

BLASPHEMER.

yet you take the trouble to use underscores or asterisks for italics

4:42 PM
asterisks. Underscores are evil.

BUT YOU'RE EVIL

^

@cl-netbox Thanks!
I'm still at work, but I'll give it a shot once I get home

@MadaraUchiha You're welcome ! :)

@MadaraUchiha it's still not working? o_O

4:46 PM
@MadaraUchiha Good luck ! :)
@Zacharee1 I might have found the solution -> askubuntu.com/questions/871978/… ! :)

@Zacharee1 I've asked a question and haven't tried since

@Zacharee1 Are you sure about that?
One man's evil is another man's goodness.

@ThomasWard you've said it yourself

37 secs ago, by Thomas Ward
One man's evil is another man's goodness.
^ I also said that.

5:02 PM
excuses

excuse me sir for interupting the excuses discussion (:P) ... what do you say to the solution I provided ? I'm asking because you asked me to help yesterday and didn't respond on -> chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/34788338#34788338 ... @Zacharee1 :)

@cl-netbox well I only read it quickly, but I'm not exactly sure what's different

excuse me @jokerdino ... just wanna say HELLO to you ! :)

hello

@Zacharee1 a lot ... :)

5:05 PM
@cl-netbox like what

@Zacharee1 the BIOS related things for example ... or the wrong shortcuts ... just read on ...

hmm

@Zacharee1 the little things mostly make the differences ... otherwise one answer would fit all needs ! :)

true

@Zacharee1 In this case I was lucky to know a lot about the company behind ... and if you think that the answer is good and useful, a +1 would be nice ... you appreciate them as well ... AFAIK ... :)
@jokerdino Something new from City ? :)
@Zacharee1 Thank you ! :)

Speaking of VTC... How do I find out who / why VTC'd my question which I think is important to many Dell users booting from USB and has plagued me for years until today's solution? : askubuntu.com/questions/870452/…
@ everyone What a wonderful week! Got USB to boot after three years of trying. Got Windows 8.1 to run Mass Effect 3 without dropping to 10 fps. Found out blacklisted Nouveau driver module got loaded into Kernel somehow and was causing Ubuntu 16.04 to stutter every 10 seconds. Plus temps climbed from 20 below freezing to above freezing :)

5:42 PM
@cl-netbox :(

@jokerdino What happened ?

lost 4-0 to everton
:D :D :D

@edwinksl What ??? Really ? How is that even possible @jokerdino ?
@edwinksl Did the Reds also have a match ? I missed checking for Premier League results lately ... :)

I am just going to bed now. :/

yeah playing man united

@jokerdino good night ... sleep well my friend ... better times are coming ... :)
@edwinksl hey ... that should be a fight ... already finshed ?

just ended
1-1

@edwinksl hmmm ... okay and better than 4-0 ... right ? :D

@edwinksl discord.

@ThomasWard that's a weird result lol

5:57 PM
Is it now?
oopsies i deleted the first one

you need to fix your deficit lmao

:P
you're right I do, but the thing is, when you're a technocrat you've already hacked all the other governments, and stolen all their money.
so then you have no deficit
everyone else does
means you can just roll a tank down their street and take over.
'cause they have no money

evil

welcome to a government powered by a neutral evil technologist :P
(aka: don't give me unlimited governmental power)
but I digress
I need water. and something to work on, I'm bored as heck

6:23 PM
@ThomasWard You're bored Thomas? Well you can install latest Ubuntu 17.04 daily build and fix all the bugs so tomorrow's is ready for me to install :)

@WinEunuuchs2Unix There's a box over there underneath your seat with a big red exclamation point on it. Open it.

@ThomasWard Sounds like an IED :P

it's not

All the IED makers say that when they leave their tradecraft laying around for the innocent!

it's actually cake in the box. The box used to hold a device built around /dev/urandom that put out waves of temporal displacement, but that was two years ago.

6:30 PM
...
hi.

greetings.
so apparently, I have a huge crate of VOSS water now. And I didn't pay a dime lol.

I didn't realize Docker Compose was written in Python.
But there is also libcompose.

@Rinzwind NOOO! NOT MORE UPVOTES!!!
@Serg +1'd
@UbuntuUser, please read: meta.askubuntu.com/questions/7707/…
800 votes :D

7:11 PM
@KazWolfe now you owe me :=D

isn't that technically vote trading?
also, lol. Rinzy only has 5 questions.

yeah I search 1st when I have a problem :P
and I hope not :X

look at you not having weird problems

Not 1 single install of Ubuntu got me problems I did not manage to fix.
And some of the Qs I asked are also answered by me ;)
so basically a problem I fixed myself :D

geh, @Seth, it's AskUbuntu and StackExchange!

7:15 PM
lol
dont mess with the mods @KazWolfe :P

what

he goes through and edits all of my meta posts.

but it's not AskUbuntu
it's Ask Ubuntu

look at the domain name.
askubuntu.com. No space or dash or anything.

@Rinzwind @KazWolfe You all owe me 100 upvotes to make me shut up.

7:17 PM
URLs can't have spaces in the domain name...

@Zacharee1 Just like it's NVIDIA, not nVIDIA

@KazWolfe exactly

@JacobVlijm we like you talking.
so i'm not paying you.

@Zacharee1 they can but then they wont work :=D

@Rinzwind sigh

7:17 PM
@JacobVlijm not much of a threat :P
@Zacharee1 :D

it can, but nobody would be able to understand without proper escapes.
Plus, AskUbuntu sounds better, and looks nicer.

%20 that shit :=D
agreed! :D
there starred it

@Rinzwind ok, it was worth a try...

Like StackOverflow.

I'm gonna use Ask%20Ubuntu from now on

7:19 PM
cool

but they're all two words in the page titles

www.percentagetwenty.com :D

And before @Zacharee1 complains, look at their logo:
damnit

untill ICANN accepts space and we call it www. .com :D

@KazWolfe which would be stackoverflow

7:20 PM
www. .com looks brutal :D

see, logo? Looks like StackOverflow.

Ask a Bun too (bun = krentenbrrodje, looked it up)

Unless @Zacharee1 wants to rescind his nVIDIA vs NVIDIA argument.

@KazWolfe I said I would use nVIDIA, not that it was correct...
and that logo clearly says stackoverflow

@KazWolfe nVidia :=)

7:21 PM
and StackExchange's logo:

that's StackExchange

so, following the pattern, AskUbuntu is appropriate.

but it's stackoverflow
there's no pattern

StackOverflow, StackExchange, AskUbuntu.
Pattern GET!

where are you pulling StackOverflow?
nowhere does it say that

7:23 PM
oh, yeah, and MathOverflow

o_O

Page title has capitalization.

but you're using the logo as justification for your formatting

like you.

but I didn't hybridize the two
the logo is lowercase and one word
the title is uppercase and two words

7:24 PM
And for MathOverflow, it's literally one word: mathoverflow.net

@KazWolfe not capitalized

So... StackExchange, AskUbuntu, etc. are perfectly acceptable.
@Zacharee1 Look. At. The. Page. Title.

the Ask Ubuntu logo is ask ubuntu

@Zacharee1 somone has it in for capital letters :=)

no, it's askubuntu.

7:25 PM
clear space

because the whitespace is an artifact of the circle, and couldn't be avoided.

lets track the person down who make the logo and make them pay

not necessarily implied to actually be the text.

@KazWolfe then why is there also space between the white and ubuntu?

Guys, you are too serious for me...

7:26 PM
good point

CU later.

ignored

@Zacharee1 Clarity and so the logo doesn't look squished.
You're allowed to use typesetting to make things look clear.
@JacobVlijm It's an integer overflow error. We're so not serious that we become serious.

Seriously?

Yep.

7:28 PM
yes

or i guess it's more like underflow.

@karel: what's your rationale for askubuntu.com/questions/872081/…?

@DavidFoerster he's talking about askubuntu.com/questions/430551/…
it's honestly a pretty bad canonical question

@KazWolfe I understand that but what's the rationale for the suggestion?

iunno
i say unlikely to help others, we might make a good canonical question.
